Is it dumb to sale the ATT and get International? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

The development activity on this forum is great. However, I've been checking out the i9100 forum and just 'wow' at all the activity occurring with the international version.
Would it be crazy to sale the AT&T one and pick up the International version? It's probably a noob question, but I don't really understanding if the ROM changes for AT&T are strictly tied to this forum or if some from the i9100 forum can be used.

I believe people get the AT&T version because they cannot cough up a ton of money for the international device. If you have that much money laying around and you ike the look of it, go ahead and buy it. However we do have design gears and a few others working with our AT&T device as well. It's a shame Samsung just doesn't make that phone available for all carriers. Then everybody can have an awesome phone.

You can't flash a ROM for the i9100 directly into the at&t version; you will run into problems such as the soft keys no longer working. Some devs are using i9100 rom files in their roms, though, such as Cognition 777.
You also might have to jump through some hoopla to get hspa+ working properly. People who got the international version before the at&t version came out had to do some tricks, such as giving at&t the imei number of a current 4g phone, so their phones would be identified as capable of 4g speeds.

Hellraiser makes it possible to flash any i9100 ROM on the i777 without issue. That package is flashed after the i9100 ROM and fixes the soft keys and other issues.

Thanks everyone. I may check around for the price of the International and give it a go.

Makes it hard to fully explain to someone why android and not apple.
I didn't convince a friend to jump to android from iPhone, the phone did. I was getting ready to show him a feature and ended up running out of time on his lunchbreak. He said later just the little he had seen navigating the phone was more than he'd been able to do on his iPhone.

Not true at all. I'm currently running Criskelo v30 on my i777 and it works flawlessly. You can flash just about any GT9100 ROM on the AT&T version. All you need to do is run HellRaiser and HapticFix and you're good to go.

You can flash a GT9100 ROM on your AT&T SGS2 without problem. All you need to do is download HellRaiser Mod and HapticFix, place it on your SDcard and flash them AFTER you flash a GT9100 ROM. DO NOT REBOOT PHONE UNTIL YOU HAVE FLASHED HELLRAISER AND HAPTICFIX!!
Enjoy!

I'd stick with the AT&T version.

I'd keep the ATT version too. It is almost exactly the same as the international version, with the specific exceptions of the key layout, NFC chip in the ATT model, and a slightly lamer charging circuit in the ATT model, as well as missing FM. Its really just a tradeoff of "do you want FM or NFC?". Development is going strong for the ATT SGS2, and honestly, we have a larger choice of ROMs than the international owners, because we can flash Attain ROMs or i9100 ROMs (with Hellraiser).

Thanks for the information.
Can you point me to the HELLRAISE and HAPTICFIX mods?
Thanks.

Samsung Galaxy S II D710 vs Samsung Galaxy S II GT-19100

Is the modding for the Samsung Galaxy S II D710 [Sprint Version] Just as good as the modding for the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-19100 [Unlocked] version?
I am looking to switch from AT&T Dell Streak to Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II D710 [Sprint Version]. Finanical Reasons.
Best,
needspractice
PS.
I have my streak moded perfectly and was just wondering if you could mod up the D710 just like you could mod the Streak or the GT-19100?
Nope totally different phones if you flash anything made for the i9100 you will destroy your spring galaxy s2

Not sure that was his question... Sounds like he was just asking about modding.
OP, there is modding for the SPH-D710, yes. But sm625614 brings a VERY valid and important point. The SPH-D710 has different hardware, so do NOT flash any i9100 firmwares or kernels to it.
SPH-D710 also has a separate forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281
Aw. Thank you very much. What is the difference between the two though? I mean am I going to be depressed because I have the Sprint version or is there a huge support moding group out there for the D710?

Besides the different cellular technology? (GSM vs. CDMA)
Why don't you check out the D710 forum I linked you to, and find out? I don't know the answer, as I'm an i9100 user, not a d710 user. Sorry.
Basically all I want to do on the Sprint network is tether with a mobile hotspot up to 8 devices for free. Install non market apps like the Amazon App Store. And Root my phone. Is this all pretty easy and possible with the D710 that you get from the Sprint Store?
And if I went there today? Would I get the newest version with the newest parts like the silver headphone jack and what not?
Also do you think its a big deal to give up my unlimited data plan on AT&T? Or if you pay the extra 10 dollars with Sprint is that basically unlimited data?
I would change out the roms but that is not entirely to important to me but I would like the option to.

I see you already posted this EXACT SAME question in the thread you posted in the Epic 4g Touch forum... So why are you still posting Sprint questions in a forum for a phone that doesn't work on Sprint, and also disregarding the forum rule (http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263 - scroll down a bit) that says to only post once?
When you root it or flash a new ROM does it give you portable wireless hot spot?

I have already purchased the phone and the sim card from AT&T is already on its way here.
I have tried searching but I only find threads on rooting and flash custom roms but I havent found one that states which rom would work for International phone on ATT's network
Any help would be appreciated. Cause I am now worried I bought a $700 paper weight I cant use.

The international one WILL work on at&t, I think the op was kind of misleading.
It seems slim thought you were asking if international roms will work on US S3.
Tbh I thought the same.
Any rom in the development section here will work on your phone. No problem.
Just as long as its the international model, GT-I9300.

T-Mobile wifi calling

I'm living and working abroad when my old my touch 4G died on me mid-use. I have a T-Mobile USA sum card that I use for wifo calling to keep in touch with friends and family in the US. So after my mt4g died I looked at the phones on T-Mobile website that support wifi calling. Seeing that the s2 does I bought this intent on rooting and putting the app on it. I rooted and installed cyanogen, because I used that on my mt4g and it had Wi-Fi calling. However this version doesn't. I tried searching the development forum for Roms with this but couldn't fin any indications as to which roms do or don't. Can anyone point me in the direction of one that does? Or where I could download the app stand alone? Any tips or clues are much appreciated

You can't flash the firmware on your phone. If you flash T989 firmware on your phone, then you can as well say a good bye bye to it.

Any idea how I can get WiFi calling on here? I'm not too skilled, but I would think there would be a way to port this calling feature from a 989 Rom. Or am I just following a pipe dream?

Your current baseband should work fine since it is unlocked.
You can't put an I9100 modem on an I777. They are incompatible. However, you can put any number of I777 modems on there. They are all available in a sticky thread in the development forum. As azeem40 said, the one you have on there now should work okay. If the person who is receiving the phone is tech savvy, then perhaps you could show them where to get the modems and how to change it, so that they can pick the one that works the best for them.

[Q] Where are the ROM's?

I just purchased my S5 yesterday (April 17th), but I regret selling my M8. I thought the S5 would have more dev support and more ROM's than M8, but I guess I was wrong. On the T-Mobile M8 Android Dev section there is a GPE ROM and a RUU to covert the M8 to stock android.
I was expecting like 5-10 ROMs on the S5 already (as was with the Note 3), but I guess I'm wrong? Or can I flash ROM's meant for the non T-Mobile S5?
That's my main question.
Where are the ROM's?
wow really?
Impatient much?
You do realize that this phone came out less then two weeks ago.
And I am sure that not that many people have jumped to this since there were so many people that develop that are already on the s4 and the s5 is not that much of a upgrade for them to switch.
Not to mention that the AT&T and Verizon cariants are not rootable yet and more developers are typically on those networks to begin with.
Give it a little more time for the others to get root and developers to move over and get used to the different setup and roms will come.

Well just saying the M8 has more ROM's and even stock android flashability (made that up )
Seriously though, there is a GPE ROM for M8 that allows you to flash back to stock still, and the RUU Google Play Edition, which essentially converts the M8 on T-Mobile (and other carriers) to a GPE version of the M8 permanately.

I haven't tried it, but I would assume it works fine as long as you keep the T-Mobile firmware. There is some discussion in the general thread about people running the international ROMs as well as in the international forums, look around. I'm thinking of upgrading as well, but coming from carrier specific devices (the Samsung Infuse, ATT only, and the Nexus 4 on Simple Mobile), there hasn't been different variants. So the T-Mobile devices is compatible with ROMs built for the international variant? Would the kernels for it be compatible as well? The only thing that would be lost would be the carrier specific additions such as built-in VOIP? No differences in partition layout?

APN shows T-Mobile, so I believe its just a kernel/radio issue. It's up to you if flashing a custom ROM is worth no LTE.

You need to verify the T-Mobile APN. Maybe the settings are not for T-Mobile LTE. I had the same issues after my flash but I am on AT&T. Just make sure the APN settings match that of T-Mobile LTE. Carriers have more then one APN.

I am currently using AllianceROM. It works great. No issues.
