I don't know if you guys have noticed but I am on my second atrix already and both have suffered from unresponsive touchscreens. I find myself having to tap things multiple times before it actually registers. I never had to deal with that on the Evo. Is there any settings I have to change to increase sensitivity or screen calibration. Tell me I'm not the only one noticing this.

Does it happen when you charge the phone? The area around the capacitative buttons is very sensity to touch. If you by accident touch that area with your palm the screen doesn't respond.
I've noticed the opposite, sometimes when typing I hit buttons just by being close/hovering just above them.
I did have a problem with my screen going nuts after I deodexed but I just odexed and redeodexed and it fixed it.

Right, the reason I have started this thread is, I see some discomfort using Back capacitive button. I am not complaining that buttons don't respond to touch, they do. All 3 of them.
Let me give you an example: I am playing with the phone, doing something on the screen. After, let's say few minutes, I want to go back, so I touch Back button, but it does not respond. I press few more times and eventually it registers. Some people would say "hit and miss" or "there is an issue with capacitive buttons". I say no, because I am touching it there, where I supposed to, also once it start registering, every time I press it, it registers (I have haptic feedback on, so I know it works). I have problems only, when I am not touching capacitive buttons for some time.
I hope I explained this well. I think this is, what in some reviews has been described as "hit and miss" or "capacitive buttons not register". Do you have the same problem? If yes, why is that happening? Is it software or hardware?
I don't have this problem because I realised that the most sensitive and best working area
for left/right button isactually in the inside space rather than exactly on those little points.
So once I press slightly to the middle, it works. It requires also a little longer press.
Ok, I will try that.
I do agree on the buttons. Probably the only thing to get used to, but one you do, no phone like it period! This is sick an amazing phone it is rediculous
The back button on my phone @ left corner is actually the best out of the three. and maybe I feel the same way about the middle "HOME" button where it registers little higher than the other two. actually I have hit it few times accidentally while I was trying to push the space bar on keyboard.
But every time I felt the haptic feedback, button worked.
I am happy with the performance of the buttons. It seems like they work like the power and eject buttons on the PS3. They respond when you remove your finger.

The only thing I have to get used to...
Almost no extra hits anymore...
One touch is most of the times correct registered :-(

Right, so by looks of it, there is no issue. Something I have to get used to. Thanks a lot guys. I also hope it will help future buyers as well.
I have not had any problems with the capacitive buttons so far and tbh i prefer them to hardware buttons like on the arc/play etc
No problems here. They are better than the one's on a Samsung galaxy s2.
I used to have a Nexus One and the buttons are similar to that, you sort of have to roll/slide your finger upwards on the button ever so slightly.
I barely notice it but I know what you mean.
I find that if you aim just slightly to the middle of the screen rather than on the dots then it works great

Good tip.

How can you be serious? I have both, and as perfect as the Xperia S is as an upgrade, its capacitive buttons are not as sharp and fool proof..that's my only gripe ...
Example situation of problem:
Right after finishing recording a decent length FullHD video, pressing home or back needs to be done repeatedly to register (MOST of the time).
Not a deal breaker, but I so hope this is software related..
I have the same issue but after one day of owning this phone im learning where to press to get a response first time
Posted with my Sony Xperia S
Well I started off doing the "pressing above the dots" thing, until I noticed you could also swipe them (I swipe from the transparent bar up)....now I'm used to swiping them and never have any problem
I'm liking the swiping method, its impossible to miss and well..it's kinda fun for some reason

Yeah, that works very well. Thanks.
I am just glad we have sorted it out and it turned out it is not a software or hardware issue. After reading some advises, my phone cooperates with me much better.
I just bought a archos 101 g9 when it was on sale on woot last week and so far it is working pretty good, however I have an annoying problem with it.
If it has been sleeping for over a few minutes (regular sleep, not the deep sleep) and I wake it back up the touch screen goes crazy. The bottom left corner keeps detecting a touch event. It will cycle from multiple on/off touches a second to one on/off every few seconds. If I rotate the tablet to portrait, it will start scrolling the screen none stop to the left. So far the only fix is to do a reboot.
It does not happen every time, just occasionally when I wake it up from sleep.
Today i got a case for it, and whenever it is in the case, the touch screen goes crazy. Same touch events in that same area.
I am guessing something is wrong with the digitizer. Anyone else seen this problem before?
Have the same problem, and as I've read on xda and archosfans forums, this isn't an uncommon issue. We'll just have to wait for a firmware update, as rebooting seems to fix it, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.

I have exactly the same problems.
@ARCHOS: PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS BUG !
Sensitive Touch
I have similar problems with the touchscreen. If I'm holding it with one hand by a corner, it detects touch. The rest of the time it is a little jittery and releases or double taps in games. It's still not a deal breaker, though.
I hope we don't have to swap digitizers to fix it.
Hi !
Me too
...works fine after Touch Screen Calibrate , but the next reboot do the same !

I'll give that a try and see if that works. I just got a case and as soon as it is in the case it is even worse.
EDIT: I installed a calibration app on xda and it really made it worse!
What app are you using to calibrate it?
I have a similar issue sometimes.
For me the fix is simply to clean the screen.
The strange thing is, it happens even when the screen doesn't appear to be especially dirty but I put the tablet to sleep, give the screen a serious clean with a microfibre cloth and the touchscreen issues vanish.
Could be a different issue to what you guys are having but the symptoms are the same and it's an easy 'fix' to try.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, I had not noticed that area in the settings before. Recalibrating it in the cover has helped a lot.
I pretty much had this since day 1......
The current state is ; it doesn't work at all then all of a sudden It will pop back into life and then pretty much go "mental" as already described, I also found it reacts poorly to minor temperature variations, i.e going from outside to inside and general day to day travelling. Recalibrating used to "help" but now has no effect.
From watching the debug logs part of me thinks it's a bit of both, hardware and software ( just a hunch ) I noticed the driver fail to get a "ping" response from the hardware a couple of times.
I've pratically given up on it myself and plugged a keyboard and mouse in via a hub on the full size usb...... The hub has now stopped working for some reason , I'm now on a OTG Keyboard with a Virtual Mouse Driver using the numeric keypad and some adb input trickery ,
I've got another touch screen/digitizer to plug in, just not got round to putting it in yet and a little part of me is starting to enjoy finding more elaborate ways of interacting with the device...
Does anyone know who the OEM of the digitizer Unit is? My previous investigation led me to china but information seems to be thin on the ground with this one

Same problem and even managed a RMA from ARCHOS. Thing is your OC edition fixed it for me.
hi,
There are 3 Touch Buttons at the Bottom of Xperia S.
Back, Home, Menu
These 3 Touch Buttons does not respond very frequently. Back Touch Button is the worst.
And This annoying me very much..
How is your Xperia S? Do you have any tips?
What firmware version do you have? For me, version 6.1.A.2.45 improvement the responsiveness of the buttons. It still isn't perfect but at least it feels much better than previous firmwares.
They tend to be kinda unresponsive, but I found a way to not miss, I slide my finger upwards from the transparent bar going to the screen area, pressing the button on my way up without missing. It's kinda lame when you think about it, but you get used to it, it comes naturally when navigating using the soft keys.

Do you think this could be better or fixed with Firmware?
What i am thinking is this problem can be a Hardware problem. I am not sure.. but. i just have such feel...

Well.. then.. i need just a practice. after that, i will write the report here again...
I think you just need some time to get used to pressing them.
At first I had problems too and had to swipe up on the buttons to get them to register.
Now, I have a 100% "hit accuracy" on the buttons without having to slide.

HI, since I've always had issues (from stock rom up) with hw capacitive buttons (home/back/search/menu), I would like to disable them, maybe my Folio is faulty on them (randomly the back button fires by itself, even if the tablet was left alone on the table).
So I ask Artem or anybody who knows it: I can build from sources, what is the minimal diff I can make to the sources? Is it sufficent to comment out line 'CONFIG_KEYBOARD_FOLIOCAP=y' in tegra_betelgeuse_android_defconfig?
Thank you.

may be its a bug....
when this happens to me, i click one time on power buttom and than wake it up again. but this isnt the fix solution for the problem, just solves it temporarely
ans solution?
one "solution"
Hello, posting for the first time =)
Anyway, i've had a problem with folios crazy buttons and screen response since day one.
Nothing really changed for me with rom updates and different apps. I have tried it all...
I had enough and finally unplugged that little cable that connects into circuitboard
of those buttons and power-led. This is really no solution but takes care of that problem =)
It also disables power indicator led, so that's a little inconvenience =/. But since unplugged,
touchscreen started to work in every way better like its more responsive and doesn't "freeze" anymore.
But this requires you to disassemble your folio to get to touch with the cable to the circuitboard.
Removing plastic back cover isn't enough, but you Dont have to detache the screen from faceplate.
I'll plug it back on when there's a software fix for buttons behavior. Meanwhile enjoying peace from
button madness =D. Sorry if poor english, i'm Finnish

After disassemble screen seems to work, but after some time is starts again and I don't have "crazy" buttons though.
I'm using mouse and keyboard and it's comfortable.
