I was using the Tard Rom and tried to switch over to miui prime 360. This put me into a boot loop. I tried playing around and fixing it. Nothing worked, so I kept searching my options, and like an idiot hit apply update.zip. Now I'm stuck at the vibrant screen. No loop just stuck. Any help would be much appreciated.
EDIT: Got into download mode. Is there anyway I can get software back but save my pictures? I have pics of my prego wife that I would prefer not to lose. Thanks for the help
Can you access download mode?
Just figured out how to get into it. Will I have to do a total reinstall to stock or is there a way to save my pictures that I have?
This is kind of trippy for me... Because i Odined back to stock yesterday and all of my files were perfectly intact. But i odined a 2nd time later that day and they all went away ... But if you can access recovery menu im sure you could save your files.
EDIT: In case you do decide on using odin and your pictures are gone try this: http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
I actually heard of a guy who used it to save his files from his android. I dont know if it will work for your case though.
I tried holding the volume buttons and the power button to get into recovery. Every time it just rebooted to the vibrant screen and would stick there forever! Any suggestions?
Sorry man this is about all i can help, im really not that good with this stuff.. i just joined a the scene little less than a month ago. The best i can say is to try that file recovery program i mentioned above, although im not sure if it works for FAT32 format disks like the vibrant storage.
I wish you the best of luck man. And if you do decide to odin, i just thought i'd mention this because i made this mistake ... TAKE YOUR SIM AND SD OUT BEFORE YOU ODIN!
EDIT: Oh wait this just hit me... did u take a backup of your phone through recovery menu before you changed your roms?
Yes I totally backed it up. I just can't access anything.
Im guessing you just kept your backup on your internal storage and didn't back it up to you memory card? That kinda defeates the purpose don't you think? Wow this is starting to feel pretty hopeless.

Haha, yeah. Oh well. Thanks for the help!
Your pictures should be fine. flashing a new ROM does not wipe the sd card. as long as you can get into recovery you can flash a new rom ( maybe back to the one you were using) or download another one.( download one to your pc then through recover go to mounts and storage, mount usb, then you can copy the new rom to your phone and flash it. or just odin back to stock your gallery should remain uninfected. as long as you dont format sd you are fine

He can't access recovery so there is no flashing a rom.
And the files are on his internal storage so they will be deleted like the rest of his internal storage in he restores stock. That's what's complicating things.

If his pics are on his internal storage then they should still be there after an Odin flash. I've flashed back to jfd with Odin dozens of times with repartion checked and never had Odin wipe my internal memory

I'm wondering if anyone can walk me through completely cleaning out my phone before re-flashing Crazy 8. I read somewhere that you can format your internal and external sd cards to really clean things up. I've been having major slow downs and fc's and I want to try this to see if it helps. MY question is, do you format these cards and then go back to stock with ODIN or the other way around? Any tips would be most appreciated.
move critical stuff to pc
format internal/external
power down
odin to jfd
use the update.zip in my noob guide that lets you boot straight to cwr
flash rom
move any critical items back (ie titanium backup folder if you want your apps)

Awesome s15! Thanks so much. I will try this when I get home later. My internet has been down all day at work or I would've thanked you sooner!
Matty: I think you unmount the cards and then format them through the phone but I'll find out more later when I try it out.
You can format your internal/external SD card using either your phone or the computer. However, I think you should better use your phone to avoid any incompatibility issue.

Just boot into recovery, select mounts and storage. There is a format SD and format extSD choice. Always make sure you've removed anything critical to your PC first.

YAY! Formatting both SD Cards worked a charm. My phone is very speedy now and not having all the weird random re-boots and FC's! I can't buy anything from the market though, again, this is such a weird problem and I seem to be the only one having it.

Hi,
I'm new and though I've watched the noob video I hope I'm in the right place, if not please dont get angry ><.
2 days ago I've flashed into stock rom for my SG3 (GT-i9300) back from my RGUI v5 Build number: MIUI-2.8.3 IMM76D / Kernal version: 3.0.38-Siyah-s3-v1.3.9c
Ask me why? because I've had some issues trying to install official MIUI v4 from the international website and always I get error: "Status 7" with a dead android inside. (Again, Why ? because I as hoping it would make my SG3 even smoother... more responsive)
So I though perhaps flashing it from a stock rom might work, so I used Odin and everything went fine, again ofcourse I got the error and went back to CWM to restore the backup i've made before flashing anything, I dont really mind about the error right now, I've seen similar posts about it and I shall continue investigating it, What's more important is on the next phrase.
Today I found out that all my photos were deleted, after restoring my RGUI v5 rom 2 days ago ofcourse....
I'm not sure how could the situation get any better though I remember previously flashing rom's that the SD card never being touched and I guess I was wrong.
What I wanted to ask is, I just got more CWM backup files on my external SD, does anyone knows if CWM backup restores user data aswell or should I just give up ?
Helpfull tips of how to restore it could be usefull (Oh lord, please spare me I beg you, I'll pray more).
Thanks in advance.
I've flashed hundreds of times on S1, S2 and now S3 and never lost any data or photos that are on either the internal or external sd cards.
Not sure but could it be that you somehow hit format sd card in cwm by accident?

Have you searched your internal and external storage? Maybe they were only stored on a different location so that the stock Gallery cannot find them?
Storages are either completely wiped or not wiped - but you don't only loose one particular folder

Sorry, but this is a "Well Duh..." moment.... Flashing any stock rom through ODIN will always wipe the data partition on the internal sd card. You need to backup the internal stuff onto your PC. Only a stock firmware that has been modded will allow a non-wipe flash and you usually need to be rooted as it is no longer a stock rom.
You should be able to restore a nandroid backup of a stock rom too without wiping the internal sd card as this is only putting the system data back onto your phone...

Hello guys I think my Vibrant just passed away.
After installing the new ROM 2.11 PA and few apps I had backed up with titanium my Vibrant lost its SD Card. It wont find it and it will stay looping at the CWM menu and nothing else. Os after few tries to recover I decided to Odin and start over but all I get is the splash menu and power off
Im not a median loader. I think I have plenty of experience as I have root phones about 200 times. Load ROMs about 500 times easy.
But this one is biting me. It just wont go to recovery or bootup..
All Im able to do is to ODIN de phone successfully and get it to Download mode and recovery mode. Other then that it just dont do anything else but showing me the splash and go black screen.
Any ideas?

It only goes to stock recovery and download mode after I odin and it pass!!
but the phone wont pass through the splash as it goes blank. Before had a problem with not detecting the SD Card as well
I have tried ODIN and Lidroid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058802
But none of them are able to get me back fully pass the splash.
If you are using eclair in the odin pda, you might search and download this pda, dont tick repartition...Eugene_2E_jk2_froyo.tar. Hard to say Im not familiar with the rom you flashed.
If you have download, you'll find an answer.
I had a very similar situation with my vibrant and treated it as the eu bug, get an external sd, partition it and install Rom from stock recovery, depending on the type of rom you are wanting to run, you will have to make a modification to the vold.fstab file. If you tell me the ostensibly you will be running I can further help you on the edits to be done to the file. (editing the vold.fstab file will allow the phone and apps to recognize your partitioned sd card in the same way it usually sees you internal sd.)

Here is the vold.fstab file for jb roms, however if you aren't using the external sd install I mentioned you shouldn't need it, if so just paste this over the existing file in /system/etc.
Thanks mate but I cant install any roms because the phone cant read the SD Card :crying:

I would use this method if I didnt had any problems at frojo stock. If the phone cant read the SD card then means I wont be able to root or do anything in the phone as it wont read the SD card. :crying:

Ok I put the Eugene Frojo again to try formatting the sd card and I got this when I attempted
Code:
Your Storage is not ready yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
Why are you trying to format the SD card? How are you trying it (in Rom Manager or on PC). Either way, STOP!!! That is part of what is messing things up. The ROM Manager format and partition options do not work correctly.
What is it that you are ultimately trying to do? Please don't say "seeing storage". That is a symptom of the problem. It seems that you are trying too many things at once. What is your goal here and once we know that, it will be better for us to diagnose your problem.

Hello mate, all Im trying to do is to access the SD Card so I can put the update file to root and the roms I want to flash. Another thing is I cant install anything because is not detecting the Internal SD card. I cant even take photos because the same reason. and due to this same reason is not detectting neither the external micro sd.
So today I went into the bootloader (By accident, meant to tap reboot into recovery) I pressed the down button one too many times and I deleted storage. Afterwards I went into recovery (4ext 1.0.0.5 RC7) and after an attempt to flash CM10. I receive the error message "Can't mount Internal SD card." The external SD card works just fine. I'm hoping I can get this fixed and after I do you can probably expect another thread for some other problem

yes flashing back to stock may help fix the corrupt file system.. then again there's a super wipe script posted somewhere... (not the one from android hd.. krook6023* posted it) if you look in the q&a about 2-4 pages back you might be able to download that and flash it... it also re-partitions the phone and fixes any errors in the file system..

Found the fix for it. I followed one of the posts from chain fire who was referred to this method by someone I believe. (I apologize if I'm not giving credit to who referred)
1.Turn phone off
2. Remove sd card
3. Flash mi5 stock recovery( you can find a link in the general form in the let's figure this out guys forum on page 7 or so)
4. Keep sd card out while you boot the phone back up.
5. Update to new mj4
Hope this helps. I take no credit for this I just sumerized the genius devs of this forum who I have come to love since I found this place on my s3. Thanks devs

No this is an error.. It fails to install the rom and the only explanation at the end of the log is Unable to mount USBSTORAGE.. Whether it has anything to do with usbstorage or not that is the error we are getting. I am also getting this error. I wipe everything, go to install a rom and it fails.. I can nandroid back to my stock but that is about all I can do aside from flash some mods.

I had this issue, what i did to fix it was wipe everything, system, davlik, cache, data, and internal then I did a "format" data in twrp. Once that was done I restored a nandroid booted into it. Then back to recovery and flashed the rom. It was funny as before I did the format data I couldn't mount anything, including inernal storage even when in the rom.
Not sure if this will help you guys but it worked for me.

Sure thing,if somebody that has MJ4 with passwords sticking can do a factory reset then TWRP back up their system partition and post it I may be able to make a zip that fixes this issue. Of course this is exactly what freeza did I am sure so it may not work but I could give it a try. I will pull system from the girlfriends phone but she is on a plane and gone for the weekend so it may be next week before I can get hers.

Tried this, still get the error, at least on the Tmobile Note 3.

Did ya have the backup on your external? If I'm reading this right, you wiped your internal storage. I've yet to successfully get a clean backup onto my external. It sounds like this could come in very handy, I just want to make sure I understand the steps in case I want to use this. Thanks, bro.

Yep had the backup on external. When this happened to me it was after taking the OTA to MJ4. Basically I had odined to full stock, factory reset and wiped internal. Then I removed external SD. Rebooted and took the MJ4 update. After this I flashed TWRP before CF auto root, this took me to an endless boot loop. I couldn't flash anything and anything I tried to run in Odin failed. So I wiped everything again, formatted system and data, tossed in the external SD and restored a nan droid. Presto I was back in business. I think having twrp flashed before cf auto root may have been the culprit. After I restored the nan droid I reran cf first then twrp. Since then no issues at all. In fact I have restored several nan droids from external and have had no problems.
Those nan droids were only of system, data and boot. I am using the latest TWRP with a scan disk 64gb external. I can't remember if it is formatted NTFS or fat32.... I will have to check that for you if you need the info. I am pretty sure it is NTFS but I did have it formatted fat32 for a while so like I said I will have to check that to be sure.
Break.....
In reply to the other post, if you have a T-Mobile version I would try the efs partition restore. I don't have the link anymore but it is in xda forum somewhere, if you search or ask around somebody is bound to know what thread it is in.
Last thing to try is wiping in recovery first then if the flash fails just reboot back to recovery with the twrp menu. Then don't wipe and try the flash again.
I have kind of jumped around a bit with the explanation and couple more things to try, hopefully it makes sense.

I believe that the T-Mobile efs partition fix works great on this phone, if it's the miracle zip to which you are referring (small zip file labeled brick bootloop fix after restoring backup, or something to that effect).
The external SD card I'm using is only 16 GB (yeah, I know), so definitely not a problem with the way it's formatted (it's the one I had on my E4GT). It just fails on backup. I may try it again sometime, but just got tired of that red fail message.
Your explanation is clear and useful.
FWIW, I believe that boot, system and data comprise a complete backup, unless the efs gets fried. Also, I think that you may be right, that the TWRP then autoroot may have been the culprit, but back in business is way awesome (pain while in the mire, though).
In preparation for KitKat, I think a large external SD card is my next purchase, along with a complete wiping of internal, clean start and all.
Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

I'm sure the 64gb cards are much cheaper now. I think I got mine on amazon for like 50 over a year ago.
Every time I want to do a "clean" install I format the internal memory. I usually have backups of apps/data/rom on the sd card which makes using mybackup pro awesome to restore apps/data. But for whatever reason I am having trouble using mybackup with this phone..
So I've kinda been chillen on freezas rom / kernel waiting for development to increase more (it's coming along great)

Been running that rom for quite a long time.
Yeah, I was looking at prices for 64 GB cards. Prices look quite good.

I have run into this same problem. This is my first time tyring to flash on my note 3 and when I wipe or try to flash the rom I get the error that it is unable to mount usbstorage. I don't fully understand how you fixed this? Is there a stock image I need to flash?
Also a friend of my said that there is an issue with doing restores on the note 3, that it causes a bootloop. Is this true? It's the first I've heard of it

I have personally been switching back and forth between maximus ROM and AOSP and have had no issues with restoring backups through TWRP. As far as the unable to mount USB storage error I believe everyone gets that but it has never caused me an issue with flashing a ROM. It is looking for a mass storage device if I am correct. Sometimes after I do a factory reset I rebbot twrp back into recovery before I flash a new ROM and have not had any issues. Someone please chime in if you know better than I.
Hope this helps in some way.

Not sure if it affected the wip or not, but I got that error pretty quick during the flash. I don't see how the rom could have flashed in under 10 seconds, so I do think it is affecting it from flashing and possibly wiping. Thanks for the info about the restore though
