I went to Best Buy to purchase an HTC FLYER for my wife. They didn't have any at all, so I started calling different stores all around my area in a 50 mile radius. None of those stores had any either. I called Best Buy Corporate about the issue. They had looked into it and had no idea about why there wouldn't be any in the ENTIRE US. The person I spoke with was surprised. He told me that there were no calls from anyone about this issue. He also told me that there should have been a lot of them in the Black Friday Shipments. There were none at all. They were going crazy in the Corporate office about this. What the heck is going on? PLEASE, if there is anyone with information that Best Buy Corporate is not currently aware of, call them and let them know what's going on with the availability of the HTC FLYER.

HTC flyer availability
I am also hunting for HTC flyer since last week. Today in Best Buy I was told that HTC isn't available because of Thailand flood and they don't know when this will come back. But manager told me that HTC asked them still run and keep the Info about Flyer - meaning they aren't discontinued.
In mean time I decided to buy Aser Iconia 7" inch (black Friday order for 189.00)
Would somebody tell me is this a good replacement or I have to wait till HTC is available

This is good news about upcoming availability. I can wait a bit longer for a second flyer for the wife. The pen functionality is what sets it apart from the Iconia in my mind.
The pen is also why I chose the Flyer instead of the Iconia.
I was not going to wait around for a date that nobody could give me for when it would be available. I went to Sprint and got the HTC Evo View 7" Tablet. It has the same Specs except for that it's a 32GB model. I got it without the Data Plan. It cost me $399.99 to buy it outright. I have been using it sinc I got it for my wife. I also got the Invisible Shield for it and a 16GB Class 10 Micro SDHC Card. She was completely amazed on how great the picture was on it when I missed Monday Night Raw and went to Youtube and watched it on her HTC Evo View 7" Tablet. Also the sound that it puts out, she told me to lower it a little bit since it's quite loud.
If you don't want to stand around waiting for a date that nobody can give you for sure, then just do what I did. Go to Sprint and buy the HTC Evo View 7" Tablet without the Data Plan for $399.99
only issue with the view is that there is less development for it, if you were so inclined

I had the Acer A100 but returned it and got the Flyer. It's not a bad tablet at all. HC works fine on it. My biggest complaints were the screen which has a very poor viewing angle and the battery capacity which was a bit low. Otherwise I think its a much better choice if you need GPS and camera at < $200 than a Fire or Nook. Otherwise the original Nook Color is a steal at $120 - $130 for its stunning screen, CM7 ROM and great small size.
I dunno. I refuse to even consider that Acer after seeing the LCD. I'd rather buy another refurbished Nook Color for $130 because even though slow it has an IPS panel that is stunning. For reading that is a major plus.
Flyer has a top notch screen and that along with being full featured makes it beat out everything near its price I think. If only it hadn't vanished.

Did Sprint mention how much it would cost to activate the device for pay as you go data? Is it possible to activate and deactivate it anytime you want similar to the iPad?

I couldn't find any when I was shopping NY for a week mid November, none of the big stores had them, they told me they are next to impossible to get, and when they do come in it's in small quantities and they sell out immediately, but i did stumble upon a bb mobile store that had a bunch, definitely a big step up from an iconia.
Their are loads in stock in Canada if you dont mind spending $500+ LOL

Yeah, but when you add it to your cart and actually start the confirmation and purchase process, suddenly "Usually Ships in 3-5 days" goes turns into "Not Available." Been playing with them for 3 days now.
So, I went with a "Used, Like New" from Amazon for $299. We'll see if that's accurate.

Is that a global release date? When do you think Best Buy will release it in the states?
May 9 is the UK release date. I think the Flyer is to be sold in the US by Sprint as the Evo View which I think was scheduled to be released in June and is supposed ro ship with Honeycomb

Now this really annoys me. When I preordered the HTC Desire, stock was delayed because (after announcing a release date), HTC diverted stock to the carriers who don't take pre-orders and will sell to the first person in the door. They certainly don't ship overseas.

Im very tempted to just go get a Xoom (or something) now - not only because HTC are dicking us around, but mainly because I sold my Galaxy Tab a couple of weeks ago, "knowing" that the Flyer was not too far away. I'm also getting married in June so I'll be away for a while.
I got the same email and I am now seriously thinking to get the new Samsung tablet instead.
While there was huge demand for the Desire at the time, that does not seem to be the case for the Flyer this time and I am not particularly impressed by the way HTC is playing this one...
I'm also going to go abroad soon and I don't want to be in a situation where I have to manage shipping date and location to avoid the risk of the tablet being delivered while I am away...
Looks like I am just about to cancel my pre-order!!!
I think this news just makes my decision easier to wait for the larger tablets coming this summer, i dont need mine immediately, and a larger screen would suit me better, hopefully less hassle with those then, but i wont switch to another brand as i dont believe there's a better experience than sense

I am a huge HTC fan and I have regretfully just ordered the Galaxy Tab 10.1 which will be shipped in about a week.

Ye true, but still has micro SD as well, nd I don't mind the non 3g, as I live in Norway so a us data plan is useless to me and getting us stuff with no contract is near impossible

It looks like a great device, and i could use the scribe function 50 times a day, but the price is laughable.

I asked both bestbuy and pcworld and they both said it was available separately
That was two weeks ago when the price was all rumour and i was still thinking of buying one.
The secondhand market could be worth looking, i would think the price is going to drop like a stone.

From the video I have seen the Best Buy order comes with the pen and the Sprint version does not.
I think it would be extremely bad form for HTC to sell the pen separately. This tablet is already behind the game in screen (not IPS)/2.4 (not 3.0)/processor performance (not dual core). They will surely kill it if they charge extra for the pen.
I have my pre order with bestbuy but I may cancel it if the pen is not in the box when I go to buy it.
What is the strategy in selling it without pen? And is this pre-order, pick-up or both?

I snagged one today and sold my ****ty viewsonic g. I am going to go to best buy tomorrow and get my $200 back with price match.
I am putting honeycomb on it right now. Kinda tricky but you basically have to flash all the stock honeycomb and then you can put that cool custom honeycomb rom on the dev forum.
Does this come with the stylus? I know in July best buy startedd including it, but I'm not sure if that was just for a limited time.

Same here, snagged one tonight @ 499 because I don't wanna deal with the hassle of hunting one down all weekend. BB Playbook was sold out everywhere in my area after just 1 day @ 299, I'm assuming Flyer will be the same. Yes, BB Price match policy includes BB & BB.com prices. (it should not be a hassle becaue they are matching their own price, it may need a mgr approval but for $200 it's worth it)

I can't find the info to back it up, but I had the price on a laptop drop 3 weeks after I purchased it. I was beyond the 14-day return period so they wouldn't refund the difference. If I find the page I'll post it.

When the price drop occurred most places sold out without any new inventory .... I don't think they are getting more shipments as they are trying to get rid of all of the accessories ...

Looks like Best Buy and HTC pulled a "Touchpad" at better than salvage pricing. Our Best Buy says they are waiting for deliveries of the new Jetstream model, but I can't see much demand for device that costs $699 and requires a two year contract on AT&T.
No fire sale, they lowered the price to compete with the Kindle Fire. After that they've been selling out quickly. I purchased mines two weeks ago. One store in NYC had them. The following week every store in my area had them.

I lucked out and got the last one in my area.
I got mine about 2.5 weeks ago at the BB here. They only had 3 left. I went back to BB 2 nights ago to get the invisible shield by Zagg ($9.99) and I got the last one.
They still have cases and styluses, though.
The stores in the New Orleans area still had them when I visited over the weekend.
well, 4 out of 10 stores in or near Omaha have them in stock based on the website and they show as backordered otherwise. While I think the 7" is an ideal size for my needs, I think the general market may lean toward the larger screens as a mainstream device and the smaller screens thought of more as book readers.

Thanks for the input guys. I just left one best buy and they didn't even have the flyer on display anymore. I have a cousin in Texas who is close to a best buy that has stock so I will have him buy it for me. Everything seems to indicate that the flyer is at the end of it's life and I have to wonder if it will be updated to HC or ICS. Nevertheless, I still want to buy one since it is pocketable and allows me to take precise notes.
I picked mine up about 2 weeks ago and i got the very last one. I used to work at the geeksquad in the store and i was talking to the GM and he was saying they sold out really quick after the price drop. He didnt mention anything about it being discontinued though.
The Flyer is not being discontinued, it's just been selling really well.
I had been looking for a flyer for a couple of weeks, checking my best buy every day. All stores close to me had been showing out of stock. Then last weekend I went to the store and they had 1 in the store so I bought it. It was new and unopened so it wasnt a return. I think its just taking a while to full stock. I'm sure the price drop on accessories is because they have too much on the shelf vs the number off flyers in stock.

I just bought mine yesterday. Had to drive to gretna to the bestbuy mobile store to get teh last one, after visiting the 3 stores in/around Metairie and calling the houma store (only one to show inventory online). After calling around I lucked out and the BBM store had 1 that wasn't showing in inventory. There aren't any within a 50 mile radius of new orleans! These things must be selling like hotcakes.
Want to pick one up but wasn't ready to pull the trigger. Only 3 stores have any in inventory. Concerned there will be no back fill and this is my last shot

You may be on your last shot...seems that Adroid device shelf-life is counted in "dog months" - in other words 5 months on the market is nearly 3 years - they definitely are not tied to an annual upgrade cycle.
I'm considering getting the flyer for xmas.
I noticed at bestbuys website it says "no shipping" and when I check to see if they have it in stock locally it doesn't show up.
I am not hard set on getting it yet, because I'm really wondering if I just want a new toy and it will sit collecting dust after a few weeks of usage..
Or I will seriously use it for ereading/manga purposes.
I'm sure HTC is not manufacturing any more, but that's normal for companies to make a big production run and then move on to the next new device. So whatever stock was out there , when its gone , its gone. Looks like BB is out, so I only see them on other sites now. I guess some of the carriers like Tmob and Sprint still have the 3g/4g versions in stock.

Most, or perhaps all manufacturer don't keep assembly lines open just to pump out a few more units. They make a big run, take a look at initial sales and either make one more run or switch over to new hardware. They don't need to announce it, that's just the only way to keep prices competitive. And the hardware guys don't make money selling old products at a reduced price. 6 months is old news in hardware

It's cheaper than Regan Wireless' $329.00 price right now. He seems to have a pretty good amount. I also plunked down for the SquareTrade warranty.
That's a stock answer form HTC on almost every question. You can just about be guaranteed that HTC has not been manufacturing any Flyers since May 2011. THat would be standard procedure. Whatever their production number was, that's what supply exist. They did make another run of the View / 4g for Sprint.
You really don't think that Best Buy can say to HTC , hey we need another 2000 Flyers and HTC is going to go "snap" sure we will spend another $500k setting the assembly line back up just for your tiny order".

Or maybe they're just backordered. This has happened a couple times in the last few months and somehow they always seem to reappear. If you can get it shipped to the store in 3-5 days from BestBuy that means it's still available.

The production line hasn't manufactured Flyers in a while.
It's obvious HTC is not very enthusiastic about the tablet market. Afterall, the profit margin on smartphone is much higher than the cut-throat tablet markets.

And after playing with it in store.. I gotta admit.. this tablet is sleek and sexy.
Only thing I'd consider over it is nook tab... but, even then I feel really confident about this device.

You slow, you blow. I was all set to spend $299 at Best Buy but their people are incompetent. I got a new flyer for $174 from Tech For Less.

Nice deal, I personally was looking for a tablet for my girlfriend, but now I will be buying me and her one.
IMO, this is an even better deal than the $100 HP tablet
I bought one of these in the first minute the became available last night, not knowing how many there would be available, and having missed the Flyer deals, I didn't want to miss out again. Have a couple 10" tablets, but thought for a lot of purposes, a 7" would be a better size, especially for one-handed use.
Paypal has acknowledged my purchase, but no info form 1Sale yet for an order confirmation. Place the order this morning.

i actually i cannot think of any spec the kindle fire has above this tablet. the EVO View just has more features and specs for pretty much the same price

I ordered one from them last week at $299 and it still hasn't even been shipped. I emailed them today to see if I could get the price adjusted since they put it on sale and I have yet to hear anything back. I kind of regret even placing the order. There is a long thread over on slickdeals where lots of people claim that they list items as new even though they have clearly been used or refurbished. I also learned that they will not accept returns and the only way to get a hold of them is via email. Another thing I learned was that they have painfully slow shipping times and even though I ordered the tablet from them right after black friday, there is no guarantee that I will receive it this year. Their phone number is just a voice mail.

That would probably be a contract price, since from Sprint. The link and bulletin suggests it will be a one week only price with activation. Makes no sense for Sprint to sell a 32gb high quality tablet with radios for $200.

I have purchased one myself. I have purchased from 1SaleADay before, they are not to fast with the shipping. I'm hoping is shows up by Christmas. I have had no problems with them, other than the slow shipping.

You could always call your Credit Card Company and have them refuse the charge. You did pay by Credit Card right?

Paypal lets you dispute the charge as well, if I'm not mistaken.

I purchased one as well, and I've the same experience with 1SaleADay. I've never had any problems with them beyond the annoyance of their incredible slow shipping.
