Hi, as one of my friends phone was about to get stolen when we were out in town a few days ago, I wanted some tracking and anti-theft software on my GS2. I found out how the pre-installed software from Samsung works (go to http://www.samsungdive.com/DiveMain.do and register your phone, and then enable tracking under the phone's security settings). But it is a very poor anti-theft solution if you ask me, even thou it works just as well as any solution on the market. First of all, if GPS is disabled and you try to track your phone using the Samsung website, it will ask you "do you want to enable GPS?"..that's just plain stupid and I don't see why it can't force it to start. Second of all, if my phone got stolen I would expect it to get reset to factory settings at some point. In order to avoid this, the phone should ask for the same pincode it ask for when you enable/disable tracking. That way it should always be possible to find the phone if it ever got stolen. I figured it was a simple yet good idea and wanted to feature request it for Android, but I couldn't find any information on where you can do so. Do any of you guys know? Or do any of you developers talk to the Android developers or do they roam in a certain part of the XDA forum?

Please try to contact Samsung/Google via the official contact/support email addresses first.
As they are using help desk systems, each email to those addresses become documented as a request or ticket and will be worked through in some way.
Every other contact (via personal network or a free/internet forum) is "in-official" and could lead into a loss of your input.
Good luck !

It doesn't on my phone. It remotely turns on GPS automatically with no prompt on the phone.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for the best anti theft app for the Atrix. I've seen many posts about this but none of them gave enough information. Which one has a web interface with user and password not just using SMS? Does it work outside the US?
Regards
Prey is a good one. I'm using it now.

Why not do the easy thing and secure it with the software provided.
1) Use the fingerprint scanner
2) create a ridiculously long and hard to remember pin that only you know and is so damn hard to remember that even you might forget it.
3) Turn on your GPS and use the Motoblur tracking software (works like MobileME and always tracks me within a few feet.
Those three items alone will make your phone impossible to get into, and make it easy as hell to find it if it is stolen.
I'll try Prey and of course secure the phone. The thing is that i can't use motoblur tracking cause i freezed it. I cant stand MotoBlur!
Thanks!

Unfreeze motoblur, do not use the accounts feature (social networks and what not) remove all the widgets and change the wallpaper to pure black. This way you can keep the motoblur active while using a different home launcher and still get the benefits.
Hi,
I lost my LG P500. Someone stole it.
I know i should've done many things to track it. But unfortunately i didn't! i don't even know it's IMEI number or any details.
But I am here seeking help on a seemingly feeble ray of hope in tracking my phone!
When i open "android market" and click on the 'install' button of any app, i see that my phone is listed with a different carrier name now.
i.e earlier it used to be "Vodafone IN LG-P500".
Now it is shown as "TATA DOCOMO LGE LG-P500".
Which definitely means that the thief used a TATA DOCOMO sim and got connected to android market from my stolen phone!
Now this is my question: Is there any way to retrieve phone details of that TATA DOCOMO connection (like phone number or IMEI details etc.) from "Android Market"?
Or in case some one has a better advice, please post and i would be grateful.
Thanks in advance for your time and concern.
Regards
Manu
Idk about retrieveing data but if you still have the box of the phone there should be also your phones IMEI (it can also be on your warranty papers) also if 6you got it via a carrier you might want to go and tell them and the police what happened.Maybe they can track it down via it's internet connection location. One more thing if you get it back then instal avast and enable it's anti theft option.
Sent from my LG-P350 using xda premium
There is a tracking app from android market which you can install (from the market) which is for phones lost or stolen. It's called second chance or plan B I dont remember. But its for if you didnt have any anti-theft apps installed at the time it was lost.
Hi XDA,
I was setting up my school email account on my phone, and saw how insane the permissions it wants are. It requires full admin permissions (1, 2). Can I somehow bypass this? I have a rooted LG G4 with Xposed, but all the modules that do this sorta thing seem to be for LL only.
I think it's quite ridiculous that they even ask for it, it's my phone, not theirs. They say its so they can help when the phone is stolen, but that sounds like BS to me. It's also not really an option not to use it, since they change the schedule a lot and we're also supposed to reply to emails as quickly as possible.
Anyway, thanks for the help in advance!
There will be no discussion of cracking access to things that aren't yours, cracking your phone is fine because it is yours. As you said, the phone is yours, only the phone, if you want access to their stuff then follow the rules to use their stuff.
I have a Samsung Tab E for sprint. I know this might be not the right place but I couldn't find a section for that particular device. the issue I'm having is it has only one software one it or app which belongs to a Taxi company. when I try to go to settings it tells me security policy prevents access to settings. I also did a Reset for the tablet but same thing I also reinstalled the software on the tablet but came back with the same thing. I can add a guest account and see all the default apps for any samsung tablet but can't root or do anything because the main account is the one that has the one taxi software. Please any ideas how to remove that and be able to root and install Rams and put it in debugging mode ... etc.
Thanks.
