htcdev.com - HTC Amaze 4G

I am trying to start the journey into rooting and installing custom ROM's. I am trying to start by unlocking the bootloader. However, I am trying to register at the htcdev.com site so I can start the process, but they are not sending me the activation email. I tried a few times and no emails. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience and if there is any other way to unlock the bootloader instead of waiting for an email that hasn't come in over an hour now. Thanks

I've experienced the same problem. I've attempted to register at HTCdev four times now. I never receive a confirmation email (used four different email accounts). The activation email is a no-show over five hours after submitting the registration information (not in spam folder either).
This essentially makes rooting via the HTC method impossible.

Check your spam filters!
I had to dig mine out of the spam folder.

Checked all spam folders numerous times. The activation emails simply aren't being sent.

I did four different email addresses and nothing came. I checked the spam folders on all of them, and nothing there either. I guess I will have to postpone rooting, which sucks because when I finally have the nerve to do it, this happens. Something is definitely wrong over at HTC.

Yeah, I used two Gmail addresses, a Yahoo! address, and a Hotmail. None worked.
If you'd like to email their support (can't help to have more people emailing), this is their support email address:
[email protected]

Didn't work for me either, sent email to support crew.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App

I just sent them an email too. Hopefully we get something, because I was really getting into the rooting thing.

Same here 4 diff emails and no verification email sent. I tried there support email and it said it was a invalid email addy???

Still nothing. If anyone gets lucky and gets something or figures out a way, please share. Because as it stands, we can no longer unlock the bootloader through HTC.

Hmm..I haven't tried yet cause I haven't touched my Amaze.
Still waiting for a screen protector before I take it out of its box.
But this news sucks...I hope we figure out what's going on soon.

you could always just leave the screen protector that comes on the phone when you un box it. My wife did that with her phone until her we got her a screen protector.
Glad to hear that some people are getting emails back.

The sales associate took off our screen protectors when he turned on the phone to register the SIM card and do something else to it.
Oh yeah, transfer contacts and data.
I know, it sucked. I always leave those on for as long as they will stay.
The Sensation I'm using now still has it's original screen protector on.
I've had it for 2 weeks now.

Stolen phone - PLEASE HELP!

My phone was stolen in Chicago, I currently live in NYC. Basically the person who stole my phone accidently uploaded her images to my facebook mobile account. I have an Android Vibrant phone rooted with Teamwhiskeys Rom. I was wondering if there was a way I could get in touch with the phone. Tmobile and the chicago police cannot do anything for me but, Android Market can still send Apps from the Browser to the phone itself. I can download apps straight to the phone right now.
I need a GPS / text service app or some way to message the person.
Can you guys help me out?
Thank you.
Installing software to it won't help, as you can't then run the software. Even remote installing something like WaveSecure to it won't help, because you can't set it up remotely.
Plus, why do you think the thief cares about you trying to contact them? Your phone is gone, dude. Replace it, and next time install some security software right away.
well I did buy a new phone, I'm just pissed that the person uploaded photos to my account. So now I'm installing about 1000 apps on the phone via Market. Hoping it downloads, freezing her phone, and making her wipe it... not knowing that my phone needs odin to go back to stock. If I cant have my phone, no one can..
and there are some apps that can help... Check out Plan B
Well an obvious way to message the person would be to send yourself a text message. There are many websites that allow you to do that.
Sympathy
Dude, my heart goes out to you.. I always think about the possibility of my phone getting into the wrong hands. I'm sorry I can't help you except by saying..so sorry.. However you have helped me in rethinking putting some type of security software on my phone. Something to locate the phone as well as destroy personal info. Sorry, but thanks..
Try to install the app "Plan B" from market.android.com
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&feature=search_result
Hope that the old saying comes true and what comes around goes around and bites her in the rear end for you!!
Sorry to hear about your phone. Since I've rooted my phone I hadn't given much thought to security, but after reading your post I'm going to the market right now.
EVO 4G-VirusROM RC 6-Launcher Pro
yup maybe plan B also those facebook picture should have an isp tag and could be tracked
That sucks dude. Definitely try the remote wipe thing.
Going to be getting the app to remote wipe my phone for sure.
I think some phones when they take pictures have the location embedded somehow.
If she took a picture of herself or friends post it on a blog and ask people to identify her.
Other thing to do is just text her.
I haven't seen an app on the droid market quite as good as SmartProtect that I used to use on my HD2 with WinMo. Basically you registered your SIM and after it is stollen and someone puts in their own sim it would then txt GPS coords to a number or several numbers of your choosing. It would also send you the new # and had many remote control options that could be sent via special SMS commands. Along with all of this you could also have it wipe contacts and/or directories on your SD. If anyone knows of something similar I am all ears after reading this thread.. it can happen. On a side note watch this video.. its awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4oB28ksiIo
Thanks everyone, I appreciate all of you responding. I was thinking of getting 4chan to make her a internet sensation but decided to cut my loses and just wait for good ol karma to kick in.
I did learn a good lesson out of this, protect your phone, get good security software and please, keep your phone safe in your pocket while you are severely drunk.
<3 you all.

Well, if she uploaded HER pictures to YOUR account. Just send those pictures to the cops or spread it across the internet.
Spread your IMEI number on various marketplaces across the net, not sure if the facility is available in the US, but here if we tell the cops that our phone is stolen they block the IMEI no. because of which that phone is just a brick, so your loss, but at least it's not the thieves gain !
And yes, next time if the phone is expensive and you have shady characters around you do consider insurance and security apps as suggested by everyone else.

If you don't, Sprint extended the open insurance until the 30th... Technically it would be insurance fraud, but I'll leave that up to you. There's no way for them to know.

I think I remember something about sprint family tracker. You could check that out, but I think your gps has to have been on.
Depending on how smart the person that picked it up is, you may be able to install a tracking app from the Market from your computer and find it(as long as they haven't logged out of your account). You may be surprised. I would retrace my steps and see if anyone turned it in. Since it is a Saturday night I would assume that most likely you left it at a restaurant or bar. I would go back to each one of them(once they open) and see if someone turned it in. If not, you will have to report it stolen and get a new one through TEP if you have it. I always, ALWAYS carry TEP on my phones. It's a lot easier to come up with $100 deductible then to come up with $600 to buy one outright.
Ok. I'm sober now drinking my coffee.
I had a beer pong table set out on my lawn (I own a lot of land and am going to be combing it today) but I know its not there. I got in the car with somebody to get cigs (with baggy sweat pants on) at the local convenient store. I went back to the store (piss drunk) and asked the two girls if they've seen it and nada ****ING thing (its not in either of the two vehicles either)
I've called and texted my phone a million times (I have to slow down or my battery will die). I do have the $100 dollar insurance but am bummed out about the new hboot.
What's the name of the app that tracks it and how do I install it to my phone from either my tabs or PC?
Thanks guys.
Edit... I just read what I wrote..... I may still be a little drunk. Hiccup. Hope that all made sense.

The name of the app is Plan B. It's by the same company as Lookout.
Here's what it says on their website: "Lookout has an app called Plan B which can locate your phone after you've lost it. The phone needs to be powered on and have a network and data connection. Just go to the online Android Market (http://market.android.com), log into your Android Market account, and install the app to your missing phone. If you are able to install the app and it runs, you will begin to get emails to the Gmail account that you have registered with the Android market with location information."
I also read after you install it, you have to send a text that says "locate." I've even read where someone didn't start getting the emails til the next day. The phone had died, but then the person who had it recharged it!
Oh, yeah. After you install the app to your phone, install Lookout to your tablet, just in case. Not only can you do the locate thing, but Lookout also examines any app you download for malware.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

You can log into the market from your computer and have it install plan b on your phone remotely . The phone of course has to be on and your gmail account still linked on the phone. Plan b is for when you have already lost your phone and didn't have a tracking app installed. I just installed the sprint tep app that does the same thing as lookout for for free(I'm guessing you need to have tep for it to work?) That won't help now(plan b is your best shot) but it will help in the future if you ever misplace your phone

AT&T picky about warranty exchanges?

Hey guys,
I've had this one since release and had to do sober the phone warranty exchange due to degrading battery
I have a skid mark on thebottom right coroner. Yes, it's on top of the corner just smoothed it out or rounded it a bit. I was wondering if this will get a $690 fee imposed.
It's also S-Off.
Against company policy, instead of giving me silver like my current phone she asked which one I wanted and i said black.
Would they impose a fee for this, if so can I get it overturned?
I was thinking I would RUU it and I'd be fine.
Anyone who's been thorough this or heard of it let me know. Thanks.

Not sure about the skid mark on the bottom corner but my original black one had issues with freezing randomly so when I called for an exchange they had none in stock so they shipped me a silver one. This was over 3 months ago and they haven't charged me anything even though the color change is against company policy but as long as they initiate it you shouldn't have an issue. However not sure what they will say about the skid mark and say that is physical damage.
I replaced mine for a bad speaker. They asked if any cosmetic damage, mine had none at the time except a small scratch on the power button/IR window. I know they are inspected when returned, but have no idea how picky they will be or how good that "inspection" really is. Probably depends on the inspector you get that day. :fingers-crossed:
Question: Mine is rooted, running a leaked ATT ROM and when you boot it, the red warning pops up from HTC. Would that be an issue for a warranty replacement? How would I rectify that?
Relock the bootloader and flash it with an RUU and you'll be fine.
Is there a guide anywhere for doing so?
fastboot oem lock, run RUU from HTC, done. A lot of people get it wrong, you are not "flashing' a RUU, the RUU is a "Rom Update Utility" stand alone package.
Just an FYI. If your doing a warranty exchange and they transfer to the warranty dept. They will make you download an apk for you to install. This apk let's them look at your system. It first freaked me out cause I was on a full convert GPe. But they didn't say anything about it and went ahead with the exchange. Still a little bit unnerving when they say "please download the apk with the link I'm sending. This will allow me to take a look at your system except for videos or pictures"

Warranty Replacement Woes
I called up the warranty department to get my phone replaced, due to the camera. They did the same ninja snoop APK file (which I still have) but I was smart and put the bootloader/firmware back to out of box state, so I wasn't worried. Weird, though. I don't know what they wanted by doing that.
Anyway, I got the replacement unit in 2 days, which was nice. The warranty department said I won't be able to tell the difference between a new phone and a "Certified reconditioned" phone. PSSH...
The screen of the replacement model wasn't as bright and had a yellowish cast to it, compared to my other phone, which I was not happy with. The top speaker also crackled when you play any sound through it. I called them back and they are now sending me yet another one. It's nice that they are trying, but I'm not going to trade one problem for another.
The one they did send out to me had a night/day difference with the camera though. I held both of them up to take a picture of my Christmas tree. Side by side, the screen of my old one was purple and the new one was nice.
I just wish I can get this whole thing sorted out

I had a similar experience at my local Device Support Center location. The "like-new" refurbished phone they wanted to give me had chips and dents in one corner of the bumper/aluminum bezel, over a dozen swirled scratches in the screen, and two very deep scratches in the screen that clearly made it to the digitizer. The polyurethane bumper was also really greasy and worn out. It was conveniently the only one they had in stock. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty offended that they tried to pawn it off on me.

Oh man...Yeah, nothing like that with this one. I mean, cosmetically, the replacement was better than mine!! I had a GAP-GATE phone, but just dealt with it because whatever. The screen and the audio would have bothered me more than a defective camera.
Got replacement no. 2 from FedEx...it's worse than my current model! Third time is the charm, I hope. Their standards suck! I seriously put the three phones side by side on full brightness and each display was seriously a different color. Wtf...my original has a blue cast to it, replacement 1 was yellow, and replacement 2 was purple.

Sorry to hear that. There's a thread somewhere in the HTC One subforum (non-AT&T forum) that talks about the three different screens used in the phone based on its manufacture plant; it sounds like you've had a go at all three.
I too am now having a replacement One shipped to me via AT&T. I'm praying it shows up problem-free, but after the ridiculousness of the Device Support Center trying to give me a replacement that looked as if it fell off the roof of a moving car, I'm not holding my breath.
Oh! They had me run the "snoop APK" as well... except it kept crashing on my One. I'm not sure if I should suspect the fact that I was running the official GPe RUU upgraded OTA to 4.4 or not. Thankfully, the guy I was talking to was a nice guy, and after 4 or 5 attempts to run the APK without crashing, he went ahead and pushed the warranty claim anyway.
I wouldn't recommend anyone else trying to use this "excuse" though, since he could tell I was legitimately trying to launch the app each time. It would just crash during authentication, after he had made a connection to my device.

Omate Truesmart - Shoddy build. Beware

My Kickstarter Omate Truesmart arrived yesterday. Super excited.
Today I wore it as a wristwatch for the first time. Within 2 hours, just wearing it on a standard tube journey, nothing untoward or unusual - not banged or something- it had lost the power button. [Edit: By this I mean it's fallen off and gone missing, if that's not clear!] I now can't turn it on.
On the plus side, the battery life is amazing. You'll never have to charge it - the battery is good for the lifetime of the device!
Now how do I contact Omate and tell them this isn't right?
UPDATE: OMATE did indeed swap the watch for a working one in the end. It took a while, but they are worth talking to with issues. Credit to em, in the end.
Try unscrewing the back and press the battery in whilst trying to turn it on. Some of the watches seem to be a bit loose. If it works, you'll probably need to wedge a bit of card between the battery and the watch back.
Have you tried the other battery?

How does this solve the problem of the power button falling off and going missing? *baffled*
Perhaps I should have been more explicit. This isn't a software bug. The button fell off in casual wear. As per subject line: Shoddy build. All there is now is a hole in the side of the watch.

Perhaps I should have been more explicit. This isn't a software bug. The button fell off in casual wear. As per subject line: Shoddy build. All there is now is a hole in the side of the watch.

Post a picture, people will understand it better. For some, english is not their first language.
Regarding warranty issue, contact them through one of the emails: http://omate.com/contacts.html or go to their official forum and ask people for advice. I'm sure someone will chime in with a suggestion. I'm not doubting you, but still have a hard time understanding how that button can fall out since it supposed to go inward.
Thanks. I sent an email to them. Bit worried that some people have had trouble contacting them though.

Got onto the tube with the button, pulled back sleeve to check the time a bit later, and no button or sign of it....
Anyone else had issues? I hope this is a random issue, not the first of a wave!

After which your then told that the watch is in short supply so have to wait for a replacement,
My mate watch had a issue with mounting the internal storage and it overheating while charging,
To the opt send omate the pictures there will sort it out but you'll have to wait for a replacement

I'd need access to one for starters. And willingness to put the fiddly thing together...
For the record, despite several attempts to elicit a response from Omate on several email addresses, I've received no meaningful reply from them on this.
For the moment, I have to say: Caveat Emptor with this company.

Saw the image posted. It looks like you lost not only the button but the stainless steel bushing that was compression seated into the case. I tried to remove the button and bushing from the case on one and gave up when I started looking for a hammer. Even though it sucks, I would consider you experience the exception and not the rule.

That's something. Though little consolation. Someone else over on the Omate forums says he's lost the power button as well. So there's more than one gone this way...
The news is that Omate finally wrote back:
Please share your address details so we can register you for spare parts replacement as soon as our service center is in place in your country.
Thanks
Best regards,
Omate TrueSmart Team
Less than stellar. But it's a response...
It's really all they can do right now. You could send them your watch and maybe get a replacement but it's nice to know they've at least responded.
Don't give up.

After some communication, and MUCH waiting, they finally came through and got my watch replaced. I now have a power button! Woo!
So yes - it's worth persevering. I think they are probably understaffed, and rather busy, and you must be very patient; but they do the right thing by customers in the end.

5.1.1 and text messages

I'm not sure if this problem is isolated to me or if it affects everyone, so I thought I'd ask.
tl;dr: text messages don't persist on the phone, and in Google Messenger in particular, outgoing texts don't display as part of the conversation.
I use Google Messenger by default, and I noticed that none of the text messages I sent were appearing in the conversation history. Turns out, they weren't reaching the recipients either.
I switched to Google Hangouts, and all of the texts I received from (and sent to) other people before my upgrade were present, but any texts I received from others were gone.
I tried deleting and reinstalling Google Messenger, thinking maybe it was a version/cache thing, and again, any text I received before the upgrade was present, but none since the upgrade, including any I had received while using Google Hangouts.
Something definitely seems f%@#ed up here. Am I alone?

Same here. Verizon's messaging app works though, and actually seems half decent.
Yep just got off phone with VZ support and that is the workaround (use Verizon Messages Plus) they are doling out as a fix to the problem, says tech will be getting in touch with Sony for fix and may be another small update for it.
Lots of reddit users are having the same issue. If you're up for it, it looks like a factory reset will fix the problem.
Had to do a frigging factory reset, but all works well now

FDR sucks, wife will not be happy. I have a replacement phone to activate replacing the one I just updated, so will activate then do factory reset.

Did a factory data reset on new phone after update, takes a long time to boot sets at check mark screen for several minutes, standard text does work now.
Factory reset does fix text
I haven't had many phones. I'm assuming this doesn't happen to often, cause this is crazy. What if only 10% of you having update issues needed your phone for work? How can companies stay in business doing this kind of thing?

If it is a company supplied phone I would think that any modifications would be forbidden, any good IT department would be on top of any shananagans as such. I'm IT for the corporate office I work at (don't be impressed, I'm the office Alphageek and won the title by default.) and when corporate supplied the phones they maintained tight rein over the units. Now we are "bring your own device". As such if your phone is critical for your job and you bork it I would expect corporate to tell you to fix the problem ASAP even if it means buying another phone.

That must have you hopping all over the place like a rabbit trying to fix everyone's issues. But I was speaking more about Verizon's consumer base relying upon their phones in general.

My bad, I see your point now. For an official update this one has created a world of grief for many that installed it via the "official" route. Usually a factory reset is a last resort to many and apparently for this update it looks like a required step.
[EDIT] Just checked the official Verizon forums. People are struggling with the same problems that are being posted here. It looks like a couple have figured out a factory reset works and are trying to spread the word, there is very little Verizon help showing up.

A few years ago it did back when we were running a mix of name brand systems (Dell, Gateway and HP). I would say it occupied 30-50% of my time, since then we have standardized on Dells running Windows 7. That is a bulletproof combination in an office environment. I know everyone bad mouths Dells but since we with Dell/Win 7 my workload has dropped 90%.

Thanks, but already did the FDR, wasn't to bad, just time consuming. FDR does fix the problem though.

Do you realize that the text issue is completely unrelated to any "modification". This phone was "borked" by a VZ-pushed OTA. I had to do a factory reset last night, lost my corporate e-mail set up through Touchdown. I also missed communications previously, while I was unaware of the texting issue. Those texts are just "gone" now. This is very poor form on the part of VZ, not even checking that texting will continue to work after users upgrade.

I wasn't implying you goofed up your phone, just following up on AddictedtoGlass's comments, sorry if it came across that I was.
Yeah, this update does seem to be causing more grief than usual. That may be keeping with the comments I stumbled across in Verizon's forums claiming that the code sent to Verizon by Sony wasn't "up to snuff" in Verizon's opinion and that is why Verizon sit on the update so long. Looks like they should have sit on it a little bit longer. I'm on 5.0.2 and my phone is pretty stable so I'm content to stay there until this is all straightened out, if ever.
I have been trying to find more info on Verizon's community forums but they have managed to make their forums so hard to navigate now that finding particular threads is almost impossible. I guess that is one way of controlling the flood of complaints.
