[Q] Suggestions how to recover a Semi Bricked phone? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a S II International version with a strange fault.
Unit has never been flashed with non standard firmware but will not complete a boot, it freezes on the initial Samsung S II logo screen.
I can enter download mode and have flashed a clean stock rom (3 times), upon reboot same error as above.
I cannot enter recovery mode, which I'm a little confused about.
Ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Try the following:
Press and hold Volume UP + Home + Power buttons until you see the recovery menu.
Maybe you just gave up to early to boot into recovery mode?!
Sometimes there are some boot animations and a long time to wait before entering the recovery mode.
If it does help, then ...
1. Try to wipe cache partition and reboot.
2. Try to do a factory reset and reboot.
If that does not help, then ...
1. Start into download mode.
2. Use Odin to flash the stock ROM again.
You can get latest official ROMs in Intratech's Official Firmware thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
I recommend Frankenstein ROM XWKJ3 in third post, as this is latest official ROM for our region, stable, non-wipe and prepared to be combine with any Modem and/or CSC files.
3. Try to boot into recovery mode after flashing the ROM and wipe cache partition. Then reboot the phone.
Hope this helps.
Good luck !

Hi
Thanks for the suggestions but it will not boot into recovery mode, I've tried at least 6 times and have another SGS2 that boots into RM without a problem. My normal build on a phone is CM7 with CWM so I'm very familiar with using the CWM to install roms.
Does anyone know if there's anyway to check/confirm that the Vol Up button is working on a non booting phone?

Sorry I should add I'm loath to flash with anything non standard at the moment, as the phone has never been flashed with a non standard ROM the download screen is showing a warranty is still valid Official Data and No Non Standard flash screen.

[Solv] Recovering from stupidity, help needed to restore my SGS2 to working condition

Edit:
After 3 hours of having the exact issue this post describes and tries to fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
I gave up and went to bed, but as a last resort I did the exact same process i'd been doing on my desktop PC but in my laptop instead - and it worked.
So I would suggest anyone who can't flash using Odin try a different cable, USB port and even a different PC.
I was able to flash a KE7 O2UK firmware without any hassle whatsoever.
tl;dr version:
I tried to install a new modem, I9100_radio_XXKP8_CWM, then the phone wouldn't get past the exclamation/pc icon.
I can enter download mode, but cannot load any firmware - even the most up to date O2 stock.
After flashing CF-root KE7, I now have the SGS2 bootscreen with yellow exclamation mark, but I cannot enter CWM at all even after holding VOL UP, Power & Home for quite some time.
I have used the pit reflash option once and only once, as something made me think the modem somehow fubar'd the file system layout.
I was on a nightly of CM7, after everything i'd read I was under the impression I could just update the modem ad-hoc to gain whatever benefits it may give.
Does the issue i'm having suggest a bad bootloader, and if so, how do I fix it?
I'm no newb but I never really got the hang of flashing the SGS2 after the absolute ease with my HD2.
Thanks in advance for any ideas

Hi Dan,
if you have only done what you wrote, then your bootloader should be fine.
But what pit file did you used?
BTW, the pit option was not a good idea.
If you still can boot into download mode, re-flash CF-Root kernel.
Try to boot into (CWM) recovery mode after flashing the kernel by pressing Volume UP + Home + Power buttons until recovery menu appears.
If that does not work, you may have to flash a complete ROM.
If that does not work either, you may have to do a factory reset (in recovery mode) or hard reset (after normal boot by dialing "*2767*3855#") and then try to flash a complete ROM (in download mode with Odin).
Do you have a backup of a former system?
Nandorid backup from CWM recovery, or an "emergency" backup in KIES?
P.S.: Usually it is possible to flash only another modem to an existing system and test it. It seems that something went wrong for you.

I know I shouldn't be touching pit files but this issue hasn't been seen before in my Google searches and I was beginning to think the bootloader or file system was broken.

I have flashed KE7 and KE2 over and over again, but I cannot enter recovery mode - the phone simply sits on the very first graphic with the yellow exclamation mark. It's almost as if the Vol Up key doesn't work.

I can't flash any ROM at all. It gets about 30 seconds into the modem flash then errors. Kies isn't running in task manager, so i'm assuming it's a NAND issue.

I can't get to recovery, nor do I have any ROM installed, but yes I do have a backup so i'm good once i've got into recovery.

Kies won't connect.
As the phone isn't charging in its current state, I don't want to 'test' too many things as the battery may soon run out.

[GT-P7500] Won't BOOTUP at all! Even after flashing Firmware through ODIN

=======
Please Note : After a LOT of searching on XDA Forums and various different ones Google told me and after trying every possible way. I am making this thread.
=======
Hello Members,
Well, about a week back my friend gives me a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 [GT-P7500] (WiFi+3G) and challenges me to fix it.
So, I bring it home try to boot up, well it does not! Long power press din't work, after reading some posts on other threads here I was able to get it to boot by using the Long Power Press and tapping the screen and then I see the Galaxy Tab logo but it won't go any further its stuck over there.
After that I went for the download mode to see i can do anything with ODIN3 I was able to boot into Download Mode, I Downloaded all the required files, such as ODIN3 , Stock Firmware for GT-P7500 and I successfully completed the ODIN process but IT IS STILL STUCK ON BOOT LOGO and No matter any recovery i flash through ODIN i cannot get into Recovery not even stock. I have tried CWM, STOCK various different ones too but no avail.
So , What I can access? :
1) Download Mode
2) APX (POWER + VOL UP)
Anyway to FIX this and put a Custom or STOCK ROM to get the TAB working again?
Thanks,
Seriously??? No one??
I tried flashing the Stock Honeycomb version today.. same thing it will complete the ODIN process but when it auto reboots its stuck on boot logo and no stock recovery access please help!

Have you tried flashing just a new recovery? You need to get into recovery so you can wipe data/factory reset.
On a lot of samsung devices, you have to uncheck auto reboot, and take the battery out after its done flashing. This has something to do with Samsung's security. Is there any way to do this on a galaxy tab? If so it might make it work. If not, you could try holding the power button after its done flashing (with auto reboot unchecked) until it forces a shutdown. If that doesn't work, you could try and let it run out of battery after its done flashing.
Sent from a galaxy far far away.

Did you ever get this working? I have a SCH-i905 and have experienced the EXACT same issue.
having same isue but i can get into recovery.. after flash im stuck on boot.. even trough odin it's a no go..
i have no idea what to do now as all firmware i can find are hosted on hotfile and that site is closed down.
if anyone has an idea i an willing to try it
At first find ODIN, install Android SDK and adb on PC.
Try to flash latest original 4.0.4 ICS from sam site.
Download and install clockworkmod recovery through ODIN, you can download it from clockworkmod[dot]org website.
Voila! You now can flash all custom roms from SGT Android Development forum!!!
---------- Post added at 04:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:03 PM ----------
P.S. Don't forget to make a FULL WIPE in CM before install a new ROM! Full wipe is recommended always before installing new rom!!!
you can try to open (android system recovery) after install custom rom and then do a wipe data/factory reset
steps
1- power off the tap
2- click on (volume up button + power button )
3 - choose data/factory reset
4-yes
5- reboot your tap
this work for me you can try it
same issue
I have exactly the same problem I have the tablet GT-P7500UWVVTR but impossible to find the original firmware with this tablet. I tried to flash with a firmware with ICS because my build stop at honeycomb and after doing that impossible to going back it stop at the startup with galaxy tab 10.1.
I don't have the original firmware.
All the firmware with p7500 (D or W or R) doesn't work
I can only access to the Odin download mode
When I tried to enter the reset factory it reboot the tab but never enter in the menu
Could anyone have the stock firmware for the GT-P7500UWVVTR after I will root the tablet and install a custom rom to hace ICS
Thanks in advance everyone

i9100 boot loop recovery

hi, I have SGS-II I 9100. I was using root box 4 rom on my SGS-II with default kernel. All of a sudden day before yesterday the baseband and IMEI just vanished. Flashing the OEM rom seemed as solution. So I flashed the Android 4.1.2 India rom. It did flashed it successfully. The phone restarts and shows android logo and does something. When it restarts again it goes directly into recovery. I have tried with different versions but its still the same. Tried to flash Siyah kernel and Install custom rom. It still does that goes directly into CWM recovery screen. Can anyone help with this issue. I am clueless on how to fix it. Forgot to mention it does not reboot automatically. When clicked on reboot it shuts down. I then need to pull out the battery and get it back into it and then start the phone.

Thank-you for your reply. I flashed Stock i9100 from Sam firmwares. Gave a try to India, UK and italy edition. It does not go to CWM but rather goes into android recovery wizard. The screen where you see red triangle with android died or something. Its been more than a day and still cant find how to fix it. After flashing the stock firmware when i reboot my phone I get to a screen with android and status bar right at the bottom of it. Probably installs boot loader or something it the second screen once you reboot your phone after flashing the stock firmware. The next time you reboot you should be getting to OS right? But it takes me to recovery instead? What does it expect me to do in the recovery screen? I really don't know. I can access only 2 modes Download and recovery.
Here's the thing..3e recovery is the samsung default recovery mode whereas CWM is a customized one.
You either flash it via Odin or you flash a custom kernel via odin to get it.
Anyway, as long as you are NOT on 4.0.4 you can factory reset and wipe cache via stock recovery (3e).
Again, what did you flash exactly?

i9100g bootloop and no home button

Hello,
I am an owner on a i9100g on cyanogenmod 10.1 stable...
The Home button suddently stopped working. I tried to flash a stock rom and I got a successful flash, but a bootloop at restart.
My issues are:
I cannot go in Recovery mode since Home button doesn't work
I can flash using odin using a usb jig to put it in download mode
So... What do you propose to do?
Thanks in advance!

I would like to know if it is an hw related issue or it is related to cyanogenmod.

If I select reboot to recovery mode the phone restart several times and finally boots successfully

2) Is it possible to flash a newer version of Cyanogenmod via odin?

Hello,
I have the same issue, I was in CM 10.1.1 stable and home button not working.
Then, I tried to flash a stock ROM via Odin, and now my phone is stuck in a bootloop...
I tried to flash different ROMS (always stock from sammobile.com) but every time the result is the same: bootloop.
The problem is that as my home button is not working, I cannot go into recovery mode to do a factory reset or flash a custom ROM, neither in download mode (I use a home made JIG for this).
I have also tried to flash the correct OMAP pit file, hoping for it to do a full wipe, but did not work either, my phone is still in a boot loop.
My last hope would be to do a OMAP flash as described here: link
But I am not sure it will fix the problem and this solution is quite risky...
Does anyone have another idea / suggestion ?
Also, I am not confident in changing my home button as it is necessary to remove the LCD first...
@GamingDj: I did not found any i9100g compatible DorimanX kernel, only i9100...
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers
Help
Any help on this issue please ?
My phone is still dead
Fixed it !
I found a way to make it work, and I think it can be useful to some other people.
Here is what I did:
Remove the battery and insert it back in
Insert a USG jig to enter Download mode
Flash a stock ROM from sammobile.com using ODIN, Auto-reboot should be UNCHECKED
Phone will stay in Download mode after the flash is complete. This way the phone will NOT install the package yet
Remove the battery and insert it back in
Plug the JIG to enter Download mode again
Flash the right version of CWM kernel
Reboot the phone
What it did is that the phone tried to install the stock ROM, and ran CWM kernel (instead of the stock one).
The phone boot in Recovery mode with a little instruction at the bottom "Invalid args"
My guess is that CWM does not have the same API and failed to execute the commands.
But... Who cares ? I was in Recovery mode
I was able to Wipe data/Factory reset and wipe cache. Phone is back to life (Home button still broken though...).
Hope this tread can help others in the same position...
Cheers !
Can u use adb?
then, you can enter the recovery mode by using adb reboot recovery

help s2 i777 brick

hello friends I have a problem with my s2, is that recently had cm 10.2 and they were giving me problems the gapps then I recommended re-they install gapas, is that hize but mistakenly install gapps that were not then when lit would not let go when the phone boot configuration came out I went out and pulled me wrong, I thought of reinstlar again but this time let me not get into recovery mode (rare) good then wanted to try the last SamMobile stock and with odin and now flashe not pass the screen of at & t, and does not enter recovery mode still only download mode, and been reading and what I see I q flash a rom 3 files for q re-partition is made and is clean, any suggestions?
You posted in two forums. Please do not double post. One is sufficient.
No need to repartition.
Do not repartition.
Enter recovery - hold all three buttons, (power, volume up, volume down) continuously until the boot screen appears the second time, then release.
Perform a wipe data/factory reset. If your phone boots, you are done...
If you are still unable to enter recovery, re-flash the stock firmware:
Download Odin3 v1.85.
Download I777UCMD8_I777ATTMD8_I777UCMD8_HOME.tar.md5.7z.
Extract I777UCMD8_I777ATTMD8_I777UCMD8_HOME.tar.md5 from the 7z archive, and flash in the PDA slot of Odin3 v1.85.
Then enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset.
thanks, sorry

Did you follow my instruction for getting into recovery?
If you flash the stock firmware that I linked above, and you got a pass, then you should be able to get into recovery.
If you are unable to get into recovery, then either you are doing something wrong, or the phone has some sort of internal damage.
if I did I think I have the boot porblem
