Wimax outside the US - Motorola Photon 4G

To all mopho owners outside the US. Can anyone access local wimax networks? Planning to get one only if it can.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

I think its a different configuration from every carrier like gsm frecuencies, in my country we got wimax from a isp not a carrier and my mopho cant see that network soooo i thinks is not posible

If u r talking about 4g, No I havent seen it. As fas as I know I can do data but its 2.99 per mb. So I only do wifi.

Data & Voice on TB?

Hi,
If I dont live in a Verizon 4G area, will I still be able to use the data while being on the phone feature?
Thanks,
Rich

Anybody know if you don't live in a 4G area, but you travel to one (ie. I live 20minutes from a 4G location) will 4G work for you? Or do you have to actually activate the LTE SIM card at Verizon?
I asked Verizon about adding 4G to my account and they said they can't until my address is in a 4G covered area.
This is not correct. Your thunderbolts sim card was activated at time of purchase for 4g. It foes not matter where it was activated. You are able to travel to and from 4g as pleased.

It flips between the two. I work in 4G and live in 3g area.

So does your data speed differ when on the phone vs off the phone during a voice conversation?

I've personally not seen a difference.

free Mobile hotspot over 3g for 8 devices without root

just a trick to make max allowed connection from 1 to 8 on gsm/umts network mode
make sure you get 3g network as this doesn't work over 2g connections
just make network mode and select network to automatic
and open mobile hotspot setting>manage devices>device limit
you 'll probably get 8 devices selections
I am getting on my mopho in india on bsnl, airtel tested.

umm....its not a trick, its built-in, in the OS.
Here in the US, the carriers (Sprint for the Photon) control everything about their phones and tethering is one of the features that is locked. They (all) want money from customers and hence force customers to buy a tethering plan.
Fortunately for us, rooting solves the problem.
Not to mention that Airtel will be reporting your data usage to Sprint as an international partner with them. That's the only reason you're even allowed on the Airtel network - because you have an active Sprint account.
You will be billed for data usage and airtime, at international rates without an international plan or a prepaid sim, you better believe that.

I am not using over sprint international roaming.I installed native sim card and getting 8 devices mobile hotspot on 3g network on gsm/umts mode selection. sprint has nothing to do with this.

I appreciate your knowledge.
plz note that motorola photon's new update included 3G UMTS hotspot functionality for a single Wi-Fi enabled device .
release notes: www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Suppor...RN_Blur_Version.45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.US.pdf
so I got it working from one device to 8 devices after switching network mode to automatic.

Please explain how you are getting this for free and how this applies to us? If not Sprint (who provides access and billing to these technologies *outside the US* using the "native" sim card), then who is your gsm/umts provider?

It will not work on Sprint network nor wherever sprint coverage is available as on switching network mode to automatic it will connect to sprint network.
I am using it in india on airtel gsm sim card and "airtelgprs.com" apn for internet connection.Mobile hotspot's data connection is using my airtel's apn which is deducted from my gprs plan.I am using over 3 devices connected from my photon for a month now.
I am able to do this only after updating it to the new ota update available aka 198_6. In the updates release note mobile hotspot over 3g for 1 device has been revealed.you will get device limit as 1 on swiching network mode to gsm/umts. but when u make the network mode to automatic you 'll get device limit as 8 while you are still on 3g gsm network.

technically, the speed doesn't depend on network type, it should be the same on both GSM and CDMA. It depends on your cell provider limits.
Ok. Well people with GSM network providers .. what are your 3G speeds?

It would be more helpful if you gave a general location of interest... Service is not the same everywhere

im on tmobile USA. in MA, i hit around 4.8mb and in NY, its 7.6mb down.
"3G" gsm AT&T or T-Mobile is WCDMA (HSPA+ capable of up to 21mbps theroetical) Verizon and Sprint "3G" is EVDO (Theroretical up to 3mbps) you have to look at the phones radio capabilities and the network. Technically the 3G tech that GSM uses is faster than the 3G tech CDMA uses.
The phones... UGH... It depends on the service you have, your location, and how far you are from the tower... The phone dosent... Just.. Stupid ass question... Really just.. You're stupid end of story.

[Q] PRL for T-Mobile

I am looking at switching to T-Mobile. My sprint service sucks in Alabama. Before I switch I wanted to test T-Mobile's prl for coverage.
So does anyone have the .prl file for T-Mobile?

Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.

Carrier name issues on T-Mobile

Hey guys,
I'm kind of new to android stuff, so bear with me .
About a week back I bought this Motorola Photon 4g for Sprint off craigslist and used the kddi radii trick to make it work on GSM networks, namely T-Mobile. Right now imeon the hybrid 2.3.5 rom, but even when I was in the stock sprint rom, the carrier name randomly shows up as T-Mobil instead of T-Mobile. Is there any way to fix this other than spoofing the carrier name? Thanks for the help!
From what I know, the name is stored in SIM card, try to replace it with carrier.
Thanks, I'll try that. I'm actually planning on doing that soon anyway . The strange thing is it sometimes shows the full name T-Mobile, I'm still trying to figure that out haha

Where is the trick?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
My phone does this too, I'm not sure why. To me it seems like it says 'T-Mobil' when signal is pretty weak, but i have overall weak signal in my apartment so it could just be me making a bad guess.
same thing
i also have the same thing, but i haven't noticed it till you have mention it.
i guess it belongs to 2G/3G. coz when you are having connected to 2G it tells you T-mobil
while when you are connected to 3G it tells you T-mobile.
pleas tell me if i'm right
Can you not get tmobiles 4g or is it because bootloader is unlocked?

Tmobiles 4g is HSPA+ which is technically 3g
Jellybean Poppin MoPho
You guys must be in the refarm area cause the 3g frequencies are the same as the iPhone's. I'm still waiting on that . Btw I got a new SIM and it hasn't said T-mobil yet so maybe it's just a certain kind of sim that does it?
