I'm stuck and have been searching and trying to follow all the various suggestions out in the thread. I ran into a problem using

The RUU 1.36 does not work for my best buy machine, it continually runs into errors. I followed the steps above as well as tried the new procedure but I continually get the following error:

I've tried just about every combination of things. I lost recovery a few times but have cwm back. The machine won't boot, it just sits at the white htc screen (actually reboots there), although one time I got it to sit at the "brilliantly something" screen, but still no finished boot. Not sure how I screwed this up. I could use some suggestions.
Did you check the md5sum of your download? Where did you get the zip file? Also if you upgraded using Paul's guide you're using the wrong method.
I'm just trying to get back do a working machine. I've successfully done Paul's procedure before. I've also successfully reverted back to Gingerbread. I made the mistake of trying to do the HC method using PG41IMG -- I should have left well enough alone. Actually I don't think it can be MDSUM since it is the same error when I used the full HC zip or when I tried the recovery rom.zip.
For some reason 7zip won't give me checksum, I'll need to find another method. Probably go to linux and do it.
You're making no sense whatsoever. You've got a whole muddle of bits and pieces in that post. Calm down, stop whatever it is you are doing. You appear to have made up your own procedure based loosely on something I have posted and you don't really know what state your flyer is in.
Install teamviewer and PM the login details and I'll sort you out.

manacap, no offense intended here but if you need my help you'll have to be relatively quick. I'm going to be away for the next 4 days starting in about an hours time.
Appreciate the offer, somehow I don't seem as frantic as you make me sound. I have tried a number of things in a systematic process that was listed. In the end, I was doing some mixing and matching. Go ahead, don't worry about me. I will figure it out. You gave me one idea, and that would be to replicate Paul's process which worked before. Enjoy your time away.
Cool, then I misread you as the typical frantic panic case. Looking at it again, it is definitely your rom.zip that is the problem. You need it to be the rom.zip from an official RUU or else run the RUU.
if 1.36 won't work, heres the 2.27 RUU zip file:
http://www.multiupload.com/G2M7UXU4M4 MD5: d8787c7b410592448ab0b5a92b2a367d
Since your on a stock hboot now, you have to RUU to get back to a stable state there is no other way.
I'm back to stock. THANKS!!! It could be the ROM you sent. Although, I may not have realized that you need to be in lock to use the RUU recovery (if that is the case, I feel dumb, I did not realize that was necessary). I relocked the OEM and then followed these steps.

Thanks for the step by step solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You rescued my HTC Desire S.
OK, so Im in the same boat here. I unlocked my bootloaded via HTCDEV.... the tried RUU, only to have the same failure.
So if I read this correctly, all I need to do is run the fastboot command to lock OEM, then I can downgrade and root?
Geez if its that simple I will cry...happy tears of course...I spent 5 hours on this yesterday.
If this works, the beer is on me.
The beer is on me...
SWEET!.... Thanks, it was done in 5 minutes.

This is a bit of a stab in the dark, and i doubt this is what the error message about says, but i would recommend flashing a new cwm. So thats a cwm 5.x

Nope
As i see you try to install some zip with set of stock files instead of real overcome rom.
Restock zip file which you try to install is not CWM file, its zip archive with set of files, programs and instructions for restocking your tab
Please, read developers guide before installation here: http://www.teamovercome.net/p7500/?page_id=5
and install something like this: Overcome_10.1_Series_v2.2.0_P7500_Full.zip ( if you have 7500 device)
Of course, upgading your CWM is good idea

Weird seems cache which is mmcblk0p5 is not mounting for some reason.
First of all DO NOT RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS
How far do you get trying to boot normal? You get bootloop? If so you should still have shell access and should be able to use flasher.
Do you have rescue back-door installed? AKA lowered incremental? This will allow you to try install another zip
If you have tried the above then try to flash anything the lowest version of android you have.... I have all since R4 if you need BTW.
Remeber do not factory reset you will lose adb access on boot (recovery should still work, but shell is closed in recovery.
Good Luck

Unfortunately I already resetted some times. It's a really strange behaviour, sometimes the recovery boots normal, sometimes with errors stating "can't mount ...". Also I have different boot behaviour, while it usually doesn't get further than to the Sony logo, it sometimes reaches the boot animation (I think after a fresh wipe). But I never have boot loops, meaning I have to restart it myself.
I think I had rescue backdoor installed, yes. But I cannot flash the R5A, the only time it went that far (it usually freezes at some point) I had the "prohibited update" message.
I guess my tablet is unrecoverable due to the factory reset? (adb devices still works)

Maybe you will still have adb on boot. There are two system partitions, perhaps the boot animation partition has adb! If it does then should be an easy fix. Let me know if you have adb outside of recovery and we will sort it out. Also try to flash anything twice in a row without restarting and pull recovery.log
Thanks, but no adb there either, I'll have it sent to Sony and see what they'll do...
But thanks for the help so far!

Today I get back my tab S from Sony, they didn't change any pieces and they give it to me with HC installed
And all of this for only 800 Mexican pesos (like 63.15 USD) cause I don't have warranty
They must have some kind of zip file or something to recover these tabs cause even my Internal SD Card files are untouched
I tried to flash HC Zips and a lot of ICS versions from stifilz list and I couldn't restore it
Sorry for bad english
Regards!

Why didn't you have warranty? Was it over the time or did they suppose you are responsible?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I bought it in 2011 and they just gave me 1 year of warranty...
I don't think they suppose that I was responsible cause I told them that I was updating to the new release (r5a) and suddenly it didn't boot anymore (trying to have a free repair :fingers-crossed: ) but nope they just charge me the technicall service or something like that, and they said that didn't required to change any pieces
And btw I brick my tab just cause I tried to convert the QuickPic app into a system app with Titanium, and when rebooted it stucks at SONY logo, no adb or recovery with any zip found here.
If I only understand a little better about condi's AIO or Flasher maybe this didn't happen to me but its kind of confusing starting with the language :silly: (It's so easy to repair a Xperia phone but this tab... )
Regards!

Can you do us a huge favor??????
If you can ROOT it before upgrading to ICS and then look in the file /cache/last_log or something like that. It will tell us the name of the special file so we can try to find it on their servers. Should look like a normal file name with installer instead of ota in it.
Thanks
I've got this trying to root with condi's AIO tool

Update tablet to latest version, 4.0.3r5a, then root using Condi's S.onyTablet.S [ALLinONE] Tool.
Yeah that's what I was going to do but I wanted to do the instructions that stifilz said about the /cache folder

Interesting that you are on 11000. Damn, was hoping you we on 0042 and root-able. Oh well nothing we can do. Might as well upgrade to R5a and root.
Thanks for trying,
Stifilz
And if I try to flash a zip from your list? Will the cache folder going to be erased?
Also if I upgrade with OTA update, I will not be able to use some AIO tools or flasher??
Cause someday I read something about the adb in recovery mode
Regards!

Cache will show the last update which will change when you flash an update. You won't need flasher as r5a is now rootable using AiO. Best advice install r5a then root and rescue back door with AiO
Well looks like I got myself in the same problem than the OP....
SuperUser was getting buggy after I installed Greenify, so I switched to SuperSU a few days back(which did a clean-up/removal of SuperUser, kinda normal as to remove any conflict) everything was fine, tablet S ran smooth...came back home today and realized that the clock was frozen while docking in the cradle...couldn't even turn the tab off, so did a pin reset to reboot it and here we go stuck on Sony Logo...
I was able to get into recovery just fine at the beginning and could see the external SDcard just fine at first (as I was going to flash custom prerooted stock) ...but now when I boot into recovery I get this prompt:
E: Fail to read boot logo flag
E: Can't Open / Dev/block/mmcblk0p5
(No Such file or directory)
E: Failed to Mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount/ cache/recovery/command
E: failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E: failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
Don't have access to SDcard anymore, so no zip through recovery...
Was able to reinstall the adb drivers ( I can see it in Device Manager) but got problem with MTP though (no drivers installed for this device)
And I haven't done a factory reset in recovery...so any help from here would great if one got some ideas...Thanks

Try to boot without going into recovery. If you have adb shell access with su then you can use Flasher to fix this. Make sure you have plenty of room on your internal sd (best to use adb pull /sdcard and then delete some big files) you will need lots of room to have the files copied over and then extracted. If that doesn't fix it there will be a way as long as you have adb shell and root! You will be fine

If I try to boot without going into recovery , my tablet is not recognized when I plug it into my computer (it just sit at the sony logo, no new hardware found, no MTP...), now if I boot into recovery and plug it in, I do have a connection as Android ADB interface...
I never used adb shell before so I don't know how to really run commands , but I did figure out how to use the cmd prompt and access the adb folder from prompt, I did a "adb devices" command to see a list of devices attached and I get this:
View attachment 2153130
it seems kinda odd that my device is 0123456789ABCDEF ?!?!
Tried "adb pull / sdcard and I get this:

As I said before I never used adb commands, I understand what to do if explained and I never give up so I'm good for next if anything is possible....
edit1: adb shell command return this : exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2)
so if I understand this correctly it means that I don't have remote shell access and I'm pretty much screwed...
edit2: after fiddling around with some adb commands, I was able to access my external SD from recovery and tried to update system from SD card, selected custom_prerooted_doubleFLASH_R5A_nbx03_001-ota-121116036.zip (by the way I was on a different firmware before all this thing happened , it was the firmware prior to R5 if I recall properly)...well no go either, as I get a prompt in recovery saying:
--Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Desklunvr update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Ok so there is normally no adb shell in recovery since the latest recovery anyway. Also you have no shell on normal boot. You may be ok still. BTW even after factory reset you will have adb in recovery.
Do the following.
Turn tablet off.
Enter recovery.
Try to flash a your normal region zip file. i.e 001 for USA. Do the oldest one you can. Let it fail and try it again.
Then use adb pull /tmp/recovery.log
Post your recovery.log here and we will have a look at it

The problem is that when I get into recovery I don't have access to my external SD card, I always get
E: Fail to read boot logo flag
E: Can't Open / Dev/block/mmcblk0p5
(No Such file or directory)
E: Failed to Mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount/ cache/recovery/command
E: failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E: failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
And when that happens, I can't flash anything from the external SD, I was able to get in recovery ONLY A FEW TIMES without the above messages and that's when I saw that I could read the external and then I immediately tried to flash this zip custom_prerooted_doubleFLASH_R5A_nbx03_001-ota-121116036.zip but it gave me the "failed to verify signature" error, I tried a few times with the same results....when I rebooted I was even able to pass the Sony logo to the boot animation and it went into a bootloop...
I haven't been able to access my external SD since it happened those few times back then....and I'm running out of ideas on what to do with my problem right now...
By the way, when you say flash my "normal region zip file. i.e 001 for USA", you mean through recovery right??!?
The latest firmware I was on was ICS Release 1a (I never bothered upgrading higher than that as my tablet was super smooth/fast and my battery life would last forever even with very high usage, plus we had all those problem of non root-able R5a back in the days)...so if I put this firmware (the US ICS Release 5 Incremental

I'll download that zip and have it ready on my card just in case I'm able to access my external again....
And one last thing, if I can't do an update system from SD card as I'm unable to access the damn card , what other things could I try (if you have anymore ideas) ?
Thanks again
Ok I wasn't sure where to put this so I apologize if this is in the wrong area.
Now on to my mission.
I have scoured the net trying to find a simplistic and basic method of getting a recovery from a rom, in this case it would be either from VILLUMINATI 4.4 kitkat rom, or from hood pope rom, both useing CWM recovery 6.0.3.9.
From what I have read and my limited knowledge of linux and programming I have come to this conclusion regarding this.
The boot.img is the kernel+ramdisk (not sure on that part) but I am after the kernel is all which has the recovery in it, correct me if I am wrong on this.
I am brand spanking new to this kitchen stuff and taking things VERRRRY slow and VERY simple one step at a time, so I may seem rather stupid to you all, but I assure you it's just I have tried Linux and commands and such and well it's just not for me I guess, so I am trying to make this a simple project as possible.
I know what a zimage file is, I know that there is a kernel recovery such as cwm or agat, the rom, and the modem or baseband, 3 separate things, but work all as a whole, aside from that I get lost with all the programming stuff.
A bit of info:
I want to extract or split a boot.img file and get the kernel from it so as I can use the recovery from it.
The phone I currently own is a Samsung Epic 4g Touch.
I have run numerous roms on it, the latest being CM 10.1 (4.2.2 android), hood pope (4.3 android) and the latest for this phone VILLUMINATI cm 11 (kitkat 4.4)
I am useing windows7 ultimate
Useing Cygwin along with dsixda's Android Kitchen with the needed addon packs or modules
I have used the kitchen for simply extracting the boot.img file so I could grab the kernel.
Now on to my questions
First off is there a 6.0.3.9 recovery out there for the epic 4g touch model sph-d710 and if so does anyone have a link for the d/l? (this would be the easiest and most hassle free solution). I have searched high and low and still can't find anything.
The kernel, gets renamed to zimage I am guessing?
When I try and extract from either hood pope or VILLUMINATI I get errors and it says the zimage file is empty.....I'm guessing it wasn't sure what to do with the kernel file, dunno. That leaves me at a dead end really.
End result of what I want to do......I am after a recovery that is newer than 4.2 for this model phone (SPH-D710), so as I can flash the newer 4.4 kitkat without having to go the dreaded long route that works right now.
Long route:
-Install el29 direct boot
-boot to recovery, flash the hood pope rom that has the newer recovery in it, and bypassing gapps right now because all I am after is the newer recovery
-reboot to recovery (not reboot system)
-once back in the "NEW" 6.0.3.9 recovery, I can now flash the new 4.4 kitkat
-wipe date/factory reset
-wipe cache
clear dalvik
-flash VILLUMINATI kitkat rom
-flash 4.4 gapps package
-reboot system now
The above round about way works fine, but it would be quite a bit easier if I had a newer recovery, then I could go from stock TW 4.1.2 directly to 4.4 kitkat, without having to go thru the hoops.
I hope this all made sense, and I hope someone has a solution.
I didn't post the errors I get, but if they are needed to further get help needed, please let me know and I will re-run the kitchen and copy the error messages I get.

I would try using the latest version of TWRP for your device which can be found here and seeing if that allows you to flash the ROM coming from stock Touchwiz.

I've been on that page multiple times and cannot seem to find a download link. Perhaps you could direct me in the right direction where I could download 2.6 twrp for this phone (Samsung Epic 4g Touch SPH-D710)

Try flashing this .zip file in your current custom recovery to update to TWRP 2.6.

I ran that file, and got "assert failed" and a result of a (status7) and it aborted.
I am currently on agats recovery trec_v0.3.5. agats version 1.3 I think it is.

I'm afraid you may have to go the long route then for flashing your ROM. If you can provide me with a copy of your devices stock recovery.img I can try and compile the latest version of Clockworkmod Recovery for you in a .zip form so that all you would have to do is flash the Clockworkmod Recovery .zip file in your current recovery then flash your KitKat ROM.

that would be awsome if you could.....I reqally like twrp, but I am not partial to useing either cwm or twrp so if you can create the latest one they use that'd be awsome.
I'm fairly new, but somone a fast learner so I've picked up a few things here and there so I appologize for the questions at times.
when you say recovery.img, you mean the zimage, or boot.img?
I didn't find a file names recovery at all.
I have the roms they are using namely hood pope rom, and it has a boot.img file in it I can get, and i the stock deodexed gc01 rom I have there are 2 files, flash_image, and zimage.
.
I recognize the zimage file and if I remember right I pulled the one out and put in agats recovery zimage in that zip, so I guess I'm wondering what one you want I have like 3I can choose from.....
1: Hood Pope rom that has a boot.img file
2: Stock Deodexed with root rom with flash_image and zimage in it.
3: VILLUMINATI CM11 rom, which uses a newer recovery as well...that has a boot.img in it as well
4: I also have a odin factory non-rooted tar file that has multiple files in it as well.... a recovery.bin, zimage, boot.bin and factoryfs.img in it. <---this tar file is the one that will set the phone to factory stock no root as if it was straight from the factory.
I'm guessing the cm recovery would be the best choice in this case, so go for that.
Let me know and I will upload the files to dev-host
keep in mind the way I "normally flash" is with el29 and mobile odin, so if I can get one that would work from el29 so I could flash directly from it without going thru a rom to flash, that'd be sweet....then I could just mobile odin EL29 cm > reboot to EL29 receovery > flash the newer recovery > reboot to that bnew recovery > then install the rom, that cuts the steps taken by about 1/2
Sorry that I have been away for a few days, I would recommend running the follow command form terminal emulator or adb shell as root:
Code:
cat /cache/recovery/last_log
And posting the output that way I can determine which partition is your recovery partition that will need to be dumped to recovery.img.
Code:
cat /cache/recovery/last_log
cat /cache/recovery/last_log

After taking a look at your recovery.img, I unfortunately couldn't get it to unpack properly and compile as it's ramdisk setup is different then the standard layout.

That's ok I appreciate the effort greatly.
My guess is this phone is just that way, that or else it's a samsung thing.

I believe it's the way Samsung does it's ramdisk on particular devices (Usually older devices like your's in this case) where the recovery image has to be injected into the ramdisk a certain way (After looking at official TWRP for your device as reference).

Yeah I've been told that same thing from other people.
What about the S3, think it's the same way?

The Galaxy S3 uses different ramdisk setup, I've been able to unpack stock Galaxy S3 and compile recovery for it using the normal methods.
awsome thanks again for the efforts......seems like this phone has been a real pain for people heh.....I'm looking into the s3 as an upgrade, looks like it's maybe time to get that.
It's boost mobile so s3 is the ebst they have at the moment, no s4,....but still a nice move I think
Hi.. (This was first posted in here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/bee-9500-android-phone-mt6589-dead-t2830724 )
So to start off, I'm really desperate right now...
I had a BEE 9500 Phone with an MT6589 board, it was all working fine, until I accidently formatted the system partition, and I have no backup even... I only have a system folder backup, but is that even useful ?
When it was working, this is what MtkDroidTools showed :
i.imgur.com/hNBv1a7.png < I cant post link normally since I'm new.
Now it shows this, and mind you, the phone is stuck in boot loop and it will only show this when I'm mounting USB via CWM Recovery ONLY, It won't detect the phone normally when in boot loop (driver issue maybe) :
i.imgur.com/wY3yPFy.png
IMEI is blank ... everything is wrong... I don't know ...
(I have no idea why, but its showing the android L stuff, I have no idea whats going on...)
And I tried going into fastboot mode and using fastboot.exe to flash a system.img I created but it will keep saying <waiting for device> the whole time...
-----------
I'm wondering if anyone could kinda tell me where I can find the stock firmware for my BEE 9500 if there is any one, please.
Any idea ? I think my phone is dead at this rate....
Reserved, Any idea ? any help ? would it be possible to use the system folder backup I have to restore it ? I would have gladly uploaded the phones stock rom but I had no idea how that works then.
Ok guys, good news maybe, MTKDroidTools made a backup of my bootimage early on, it has my phone's name model and all and its the first one and most accurate, I think its the stock one.
I was able to pack it along with system into a zip file, but when I install it on my phone it gives this error...
Here is the recovery dumped on Sd Card using "Report Error" function in CWM :

minzip: Error writing 32768 bytes from zip file from 0xbeec7c84: No space left on device ???
there is no other way too, and I can't flash boot.img using MTKDroidTools during recovery mode either.
I think boot installs fine ? using 's recovery flasher from here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245724
and clicking "show log" in CWM shows no error at all.
I'm not really sure how??
and why does MTKDroidTools detects my phone as nexus or another phone ? is it because of build.prop ? what determines that ?
And I'm using the following Binary files btw for install ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721680
Another question, can it be possibly that there is not enough space on the SD Card instead ? where is it extracted ?
Apparently not though, I just cleared my SD Card and I'm getting the same error.
[Edit] OK so of course I figured it out within 30 minutes of posting this, after being stumped for the last day. Here is what i did if you guys are in the same pickle:
1. I downloaded an app call Root recovery tools, booted into the cm 13 recovery
2. Renamed "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.2-acclaim-sdcard.img" into recovery.img
3. Selected sd recovery in the cm 13 recovery- got loaded into twrp 2.8.5.2
4. Installed CM 13
[/Edit]
I rooted, installed MiUi, and resized my nook tablet partition sizes back in 2012 or 2013. Now I'd like to try another ROM but I can't seem to get anything working. I've tried several different things but always end up in my old version of CWM(v5.5.0.4) and get stuck. I need help. Here is the error log
Code:

Specifically I can't figure out out how:
1. To update CWM on my already rooted tablet?
2. To install the CM 13 ROM? It seems I may have to do it in several steps, first installing an older version of CM?
I managed to install a google play app that lets me boot into the CM 13 recovery but I can't really do anything with it.
