Touch wiz - Motorola Droid RAZR

it would be so cool if it were possible to have a touch wiz rom on the droid razr, but because of verizon/moto we are completly blocked so my question is...
is it possibly to port applications from touchwiz(ex. twlauncher, music player, gallery and camera app) to work on the droid razr?

I don't think so, as I believe you need the touchwiz framework to go with it. What makes you like those apps so much if I may ask? The stock camera app is fine, and you can download an aosp looking gallery that would be just as good. You can download a touchwiz style launcher in the marketplace.
Btw. Wrong section I believe.

well specifically i would use touchwiz because this was done for the droid 2, but specifically i would like touchwiz on the razr because touchwiz is amazingly smooth on the gs2 and considering this droid razr has similar specs and hardware it would be nice to see a port.
for example the multitouch in the gallery on the droid razr is horrible....the camera is kinda cluttered and the launcher has its own tyoe of glitches.
even though touchwiz isnt the best android skin out there its a lil bit better that motoblur/motorola application platform

Personally I wouldn't count on touchwiz but it may happen. Like I said look for a touchwiz style launcher in the marketplace. I use adw launcher with an ics theme and it works flawlessly. Camera works fine for me.

Launcher Pro vs ADW

Just curious about people's general view of which is better? I rarely see any roms with launcher pro instead usually use adw...is there a reason for this?

I personally like launcherpro better. It has all the features adw has (minus themes) and i find it faster. Just my opinion.

I'm using Tazz's froyo build it uses ADW as default. I have grown to like it, before while I had 2.1 I was always running Launcher PRO. They both have there plusses but Launcher Pro is the king.
Sent from my Froyo Eris using XDA App
launcher pro shows missed calls and emails for icons in the dock. i like that little touch. adw has the themes and really like that.
kinda go back and forth for now.
Launcherpro.
What I've come to understand is that while LauncherPro packs more features, ADW has the advantage of being open source. I've seen differing opinions on which one is "better" in terms of resources and performance, but I think the open source versus closed source bit is why so many roms include ADW.
The open source really just leads to a million themes for it lol, launcherpro's dev is pretty great. He's quick to respond to tweets/ emails and he's managed to get sense/ blur widgets. Plus it's incredibly fast... smoothest I've had by far.
LPP for life yo
Launcher pro is all I use.

I've used both, but truly prefer LauncherPro Plus. Resizing widgets, notifications in the dock, and smooth fast performance makes for a happy Eris

It's my understanding that ADW and Cyanogen are closely tied in some way (??).
I purchased LauncherPro. Everyone here likes LauncherPro, ROM developers need to use it instead of ADW. I usually install LauncherPro first thing after a fresh ROM install.

The reason I love ADW is for the swyping option on the home screens. I can swype up and the notification bar disappears and I can swype down and the dock disappears. pretty slick.....

Keep in mind there is a couple versions of adw. There's the system integrated that's on ROMs from the get go, then there's the standalone from the market. Launcher pro is great. My wife uses it on her droid. Both are good I think it all comes down to features.

JW why does everyone dislike touchwiz

Hello everyone, ive loved android ever since i moved from the original iphone to the g1. Never much liked stock launchers until now actually. I used adw, go for a long time. Now with touchwiz on the s 3 i tried apex and nova for a 5x5 grid but i keep going back to touchwiz for features.
Just wondering what does everyone dislike about touchwiz?
Features i like (other launchers may have them and I dont know)
-holding page indicator to slide between screens especially in widgets. I have so many.
-widget view in general and adding to screen
-quickness of page sliding and behavior motion
-hiding apps in app drawer

The old touch wiz was absolutely unusable. This version I think is actually quite nice. I find myself missing some features from it using cm9.

Other than the UI which is horrible....I'm actually a fan of the new TW. AOKP/CM9 aren't quite necessary anymore due to the beast under the hood! Especially with an OC kernel...losing functions like the camera and motion is not worth it (maybe with further development in the future we may get more goodies but as of now)....I'll stick with TW and TSF Shell!

TouchWiz 4 has made significant improvements. I always thought that Samsung was confused with the previous versions of TouchWiz, like they wanted to look and feel like iOS, but didn't know they're using a better and competing operating system. I'm sure if Google didn't force manufacturers using Android to have a back button and settings button, Samsung would skip on that. TouchWiz 4 cuts down on that a lot, though the icons still piss me off. TouchWiz 4 is light on memory, RAM, and is smooth.
I still prefer Sense. Sense, although a resource hog, still has a few features over TouchWiz 4. At the same time TouchWiz 4 has features over Sense 4. But, the features that matter more to me are on Sense 4.
So, I guess I hate older versions of TouchWiz, but TouchWiz 4 isn't so bad. Not bad at all.
Still supporting the people trying to bring Sense 4 to this phone and other Samsung devices.

Agreeing with the rest of the replies here. I'm running CM10 but I found it hard to find replacements for the video and music player apps. They just worked.
I definitely think is not bad but is not as responsive as cm9(idk it probably just me and have to do a fresh flash ) but sense 4 is so nice looking too but is a hog of memory, I like stock features like battery percentage, great camera app(hated gs2 camera speed),notification toggles, swype right to call, etc but cm9 for some reason is always my favorite I could live with eathier one tho, I think touchwiz would be better if menus would be white like sense or black looking like ICS, the grey color looks outdated somehow , the green battery should be blue as well, and bring the folder option to drag and make a folder on stock launcher

Agreed the folder issue on the launcher is really the only issue I have with TW. Other than that I think it is fine.

The trashness of the folder view on touchwiz cannot be overstated. Things that are changed for worse (compared to stock) grind my gears. I would miss smart stay but since it never worked for me i can't say that I do. Only the bottom bar for launcher/drawer and tilting to move apps across home screens are things I miss.

Just a matter of peoples personal taste I guess. I was actually shocked and baffled that you would even ask this.
I gave TW a few hours, since I had actually grown comfortable with HTC Sense on my TB. However TW was borderline unusable for me. The UI just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, and simple tasks are made more complicated. It just seems ugly and clumsy to me. Having used Sense, Blur, and TW. I would say Sense was by far the best, and TW by far the worst. Custom launchers are better than all of them though.
I was unable to find any features that I cared about that TW gave me, that CM or far better launchers like Nova didn't. However there are many many options that Nova gives you that TW does not.
Like I said in the beginning though, it's a matter of personal taste.

I personally don't "miss" Sense, however I understand what these other folks are talking about.
Compared to TW, Sense was just a very nice looking UI. Other than just looking better than TW, it was easy to use, and didn't add extra annoyance to using the phone. Other than some limitations of the launcher, I actually really liked everything else sense provided.
I messed around with TW plenty, and I honestly just can't find anything good to say about it. The launcher is awful.
I expected as much though, with Nova installed this phone is bad *** and was everything I hoped for.
Opinions, opinions... I played with the HTC One X and I did not like the aesthetics of the UI on Sense 4.0 at all. It just looked... ugly, bulky, and consumptiuous as far as space goes. TouchWiz 5 just looks nicer to me and it's a lot easier on the phone's resources.
i HATE the way TW looks as well as sense.
ICS based launchers like apex and nova look awesome to me. So based off of that, I stick with apex. Looks great, fast, customizable
I actually was hoping to use TW. But it has one thing missing that my preferences keep me from living without: multiple scrolling docks. I was quite surprised that function was not on TW, given all the raves of how it had improved. That is a basic function available on almost any third party launcher.
I used my GS3 stock for awhile and quite got used to TouchWiz. My only complaint is how the Launcher organizes things in the app drawer. I can set it to do alphabetical, which I prefer, but folders are also placed in alphabetical order instead of at the beginning of the drawer.
I tried to go back to GoLauncher (what I used on my TBolt) but I found it to be rather sluggish.
The current versions of both Sense and Touchwiz are much better than stock ICS imo. I went to CM9 because of how much people rave about 'stock ICS' but it was pretty underwhelming. Back to TW now and enjoying it.

Personally, I like Sense a lot (I LOVE the sense widgets), but even when I was using my rezound daily I used Apex Launcher for a number of reasons.
When I wanted a sense widget, I swapped back to sense with home switcher.

How's sense compared to other skins?

So I'm still debating whether I want this phone or not. I currently own a galaxy nexus and I must say I like stock a lot. Ive never had sense and I wonder how it is compared to stock. I played with it at the store but I don't think it's enough to determine whether to purchase or not. I hate touch wiz and the moto skin but to me sense has always looked nice. Is it clunky or cluttered compared to stock ? Does the skin make the phone lag at all? Just some information about it would be nice since everywhere I read says it's ugly or bad.

Sense is fine and it runs fine on the DNA, it's not as intrusive as Touchwiz and it's not as simple as untouched Android. However that's exactly why I don't really like it. With my Nexus phone I get to experience the real android that I know and love. I get updates quick and I get to enjoy watching Android get better and better.
With my Samsung devices I know that I can't expect to get the latest from Google but I actually really like touchwiz for a lot of it's own things. Before the DNA I had the S III for a while and I loved certain functions like swiping with my palm to take a screenshot or putting the phone to my ear while texting someone to call that person. I loved being able to easily play a video on a corner while texting someone or just checking anything real quick. Touchwiz in my opinion manages to feel like a completely different experience.
With the Droid DNA, it feels like I'm just using a nicer looking version of original Android but without some of the nice things like swiping from my camera app to see the gallery right away and flick away pictures I didn't like. Not saying this is a bad thing, I'm sure plenty of people absolutely love that. Personally, i think it's lacking, but I still think the phone is amazing, I'll probably end up getting rid of my Nexus for a Note 2 and then adding some nice rom on this one to make it look Nexus...ish.

I personally love HTC Sense. However I have come to love the stock android experience.
Ive used sense from OG EVO, Evo LTE, and now DNA. Sense does some pretty cool things and its VERY polished. On the DNA there is no lag and thanks to the 2GB or ram i wouldnt worry at all about it. Ive never had a single issue with it. Its really organized and easy to find what you are looking for. I would say that its the most complete android OEM launcher. Icons are very polished same goes for apps and widgets. I really dont get why people dont like it... whats not to love about it? sure stock is wonderful but sense is just as good if not better.
Someone else mentioned multitasking windows. a side note to that... its only supported by a few samsung devices running crapwiz and its very under developed. Not even avail. to US devices (without root, please correct me if im wrong on this, i dont want to mislead anyone)
I would say Sense kinda ruined the rest of android launcher experiences due to the fact that Its just really that good. I dare you to give it a whole hearted run through and tell me that it just isnt all that... go ahead try it.

Those are just the widgets though, Sense is much more then the widgets. For example, you have all the great sharing options, the cool animations, lock screen widgets, and all the widgets you mentioned still have their apps you can open. So no, you don't lose sense just by switching launchers, you lose just the nice widgets, and you can find replacements for most of them in the play store. :good:

The Sense seems like an alternative launcher, where as the Touchwiz makes itself seem like a different OS entirely, due to all the Touchwiz gimmicks integrated through out the system.
I honestly love the Sense UI. I've used it since my Incredible, and every custom ROM I've put on that and my Rezound has had Sense. I don't find that it negatively affects performance in any way, and (for me at least) it greatly enhances the user experience. I was helping my girlfriend set up her new Asus Transformer Tablet running stock 4.1 Jellybean, and also her mom's new SIII, and the lack of widgets and functionality from Sense that I've now taken for granted was seriously bothering me. Plus, Sense is pretty

Razr M's Launcher and Circle Widget Flashable ZIP

Hi guys, I've packed the latest Razr I's launcher and circle widget to flash via recovery. It has some laggs while scrolling homepages, but at other side it smooth. I'm tried to 'just' copy apps and no luck with Widget 3D. So I maded working Widget - it only needed to copy some files, according this tutorial: http://forums.androidcentral.com/dr...ts-notification-count-few-stock-app-razr.html
Be sure that you have at least 40MB free in System-ROM, because widget is 38MB size.
UPDATE: Razr M launcher on Defy - looks bad - resolution issues.... See last my post for screenshots.
UPDATE1: Resized Razr M launcher....

You must use provided launcher by ZIP, if you try to open widget on trebuchet launcher, you'll get following error, that widget can't be viewed on 3D launchers.
EDIT: Tried Razr M launcher - still lags. Tried XT912 launcher - it looks very ugly..... It also lags little with Droid Razr so problem is not in low hardware. I don't know how to made off lags.... Maybe supercharge...

Nice look, but laggy when scrolling even on higly overclocked defy. Hates laggs.
Somebody can test Razr M launcher + Razr M widgets, because I can't test it for now - I'm temporarily on gingerbread. I think it should be more stable. For more info read first post.
I've been messing around with the Atrix HD Launcher and Circles widget, and one possible reason the Razr HD launcher looks bad is its not in hdpi. Atrix HD Launcher is mdpi & xhdpi....seems like Moto is trying to prevent porting...but I've converted all the xhdpi's into hdpi. I just gotta repack and see if it helps.
I've also tried to make Circles work without the Moto launcher, but no success. The Circles widget has some smali for Homescreen and Homeconfig in it. I tried the obvious and removed the homescreen permissions line in AndroidManifest.xml (didn't work for other launchers).
As far as the rest of porting Atrix HD ICS Blur....some things work, some don't (like gps in Smart Actions ). I've also converted all the Blur xhdpi into hdpi as well.
I'm not 100% sure, but the Atrix HD and Razr HD might use the exact same apps* for blur, launcher, Circles.
*maybe different version numbers, but they look the same in screenshots
Razr M launcher - resoliution issues

Razr contacts widget

Anyone know how to add the contacts widget from the droid razr original? Prob the only thing I liked about that phone. Takes no space showing 4 contacts then drop down to show 12+ I think... Thanks
No you need the Motorola RAZR framework and that's impossible

Well it may not be, with the Motorola weather widget all you have to do is put the widget in system/app and use the Motorola launcher. The contact widget may be the same way. It seems that most of Motorola's widgets are tired to their launcher instead of being tied to the framework like Samsung apps are.
OP, try using the Moto launcher and pushing the widget to sys/app and launcher. Here is a link describing what you need to do:

Use the XDA link first, just know it may not work on AOSP ROMs. AOSP is 4.2 and I am unsure if any of the new Motorola phones have been updated to 4.2, if they have you could get the launcher and widgets from them and it should work. Also if you use the Motorola launcher none of the Samsung widgets, like the S-Note widget and the calendar widget, will work on that launcher. The apps themselves will still work, just not their widget counterparts unless you use the TW launcher.
Also porting framework can be done, it has been done before with one of the Samsung phones. The Dev ported the framework that the Samsung afford and widgets worked on and incorporated it into a AOSP ROM and I think he made a flashable zip so you could add it to any AOSP ROM, AFAIK it has only been done once though and it took him close to a year to do it. Most devs don't want to deal with that though because it is a huge pain in the ass and is extremely difficult to do and the reward just isn't worth it to mossy of them. I can't blame them for not doing it no matter how much I and other users want it.
