Hello Xda, i have been a dormant user of ROMs on my galaxy s2.
I liked the cyanogen stable mod 7 because of a unique setting where i could toggle the 2g network.
Believe me the place where i live, the 3g bandwidth is crappy and for my use i prefer the 2g network.
My question is , are there any other ROMs which allow such an option of toggling between 2g network. To be more precise i have attached a screenshot below.
Any help regarding this is appreciated. I am not looking for an app or tasker script that allows me to toggle 2g network. I am looking for a ROM other than the cyanogen mod 7.
Thank YOu
this option is available on all roms. it can be found under mobile networks settings on samsung roms. Network mode > GSM only

Hello everyone,
How can I easily turn off 3g and on 2g on android 2.3.3? I'm on Wolfbreak's ROM which works perfectly, but when I'm not actively using my phone I would like to set it to use 2g only.
When I googled I found this way, but I'm hoping for a more easy solution:
1. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Phone informatie
3. Set Preferred Network Type:
- GSM only = 2g
- WCDMA preferred = 3g
Does anyone know a more easy way to set my phone to 2g?
Hi there, go to settings ----> wireless & networks -----> Mobile Networks -----> Network Mode. Hope that helps.

It helps, a lot easier! ;-) In previous Android version you could turn off the 3g box, I couldn't find that one!
Hi,
i use the app Quick Settings for turn on and off
greets
I read everywhere that since 2.3.3 switching between 2g and 3g is not possible anymore, all the switch apps only place shortcuts to the settings menu.
The only one that really has this feature is a CM ROM.
Is there any way on a rooted non CM ROM to place a widget that can switch between 2g and 3g just by pressing it?
Someone had success installing toggle 2g in gingerbread At&t rom?
I already tried, but didn't work.....
Dev of the software only guarantee on CM6 and CM7 but I dont want to install this rom, due to lack of resources (webtop, fingerprint, etc).......
Someone can help?

From what I understand based on the CM7 issue list, switching to 2g in the US is not working because of AT&T. You apparently have to call and enable it.
Here in Brazil it works...I can switch manually between GSM Only, Automatically or 3G Only.....but this app called Toggle 2G can do it automatically when we put in sleep mode....it's better because save much battery.....

have you called and enabled this on your phone, i am curious if you have it working and what you asked them to enable?
On my stock AT&T which I'm using here in Oz,
Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile networks->Select network was disabled and wouldn't let me change it.
Take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14494826&postcount=24
Now all the toggle apps work.

I saw this thread before and even got the options ungreyed, yet selecting 2g changes nothing here in us
Well, I have not used that app, but *#*#4636#*#* then phone info, and then preferred network should work.
Is what I always do in areas with poor 3G coverage. I switch to GSM. And vice verse, in areas with good 3G coverage I set it to WCDMA only.
Sorry, I didn't realise OP had already unlocked the 'Select network' menu and it works.
I didn't find an app that would toggle 2g/3g automatically on a stock ROM. I just installed the 2G-3G OnOff widget that's a shortcut to the 'Select network menu, and I manually toggle it when in bad signal area.
I couldn't install it on my german Atrix with french stock rom. After installing the Toggle2G-Update.zip with CWM the app simply doesn't appear in the drawer.
Those of you who were successful, what did you do?
Thanks!
Anyone know how to force it to EDGE only? I tried *#*#4636#*#* and that didn't work? Any suggestions and the Network mode is absent from Mobile network?
response
Depending on the rom you are using but in all the roms i've used you just have to change on the mobile network options, the network mode to GSM Only and it will only connect on edge
Download samservmode, access the dev menu and search these forums for more info

Hi. Pretty new in the android scene. I recently acquired an at&t motorola atrix from a friend. I work in Singapore so I needed at&t to give me the unlock code which they gladly provided.
I wanted to apply a custom rom so I followed the official cm7 rom -- procedure found in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574. The procedure was clearly written down and any beginner such as myself can easily follow the steps.
My problem now is that I can only connect to the internet through GPRS only. I have the option to connect GSM/WCDMA, WCDMA only, GSM and GSM/WCDA/WCDMA. Whenever I select WCDMA which I understand is 3G, it does not show any 3G logo but it does show a couple of signal bars. I even installed or flashed both radios thinking it might solve the issue, but it did not. Now, I just did a clean install without installing/flashing any radios, but I can still connect to the internet through GPRS.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to have a special radio since I'm on Singtel Hi!card prepaid?
Kindly advise.
Either you don't have 3g coverage in your area.
You can try anycut from market. Then select new shortcut > Activity > phone info
Then select phone info shortcut. Then select wcdma only. Don't mess with other options. As it may brick your phone.

Hi guys
When I go to Galaxy SII settings > Radio, I get 3 options and they are:
UMTS only
HSPDA only
HSPDA + HSUPA
basically, what I want to avoid is having Edge and GPRS connections. I only want to have either 3g, H or H+, which was possible before on other roms and they were found on SETTINGS > DATA
I have tried all of the 3 above but I still get Edge and GPRS connections. Am I missing something.
Any help will be appreciated.
You may get a prompt response & support at the thread where you downloaded the ROM from. post there....
I tried but I am unable to post in "development" threads. thats why i tried here.
