Has anyone here tried splashtop HD for webOS? I want to play computer games via my xbox controller when I'm in the other room. The controller has the range, but I'm wondering if the framerate can keep up with the games.

I've used it for regular desktop apps - business type stuff. Don't know if it would be responsive enough for what you are talking about. Seemed a little awkward to control through the onscreen controls.
Splashtop is a POS, it only supports a max resolution of 1024x768 and will resize your computer desktop to that resolution, it also doesn't support sound if you computers sound card has more than 2 channels. I wish I hadn't paid money for it...

I use Splashtop all the time and it is indispensable. I use it to watch Hulu, Netflix and my Slingbox, read my epub books on the Barnes and Noble app and use the entire MS Office suite. Basically it lets me do everything the touchpad can not. It is plenty fast enough for those tasks, maybe not for gaming. If it weren't for Splashtop I would have sold this thing already. Very much worth the investment for me.
I bought and used splashtop before there were any viable remote desktop apps available.
There are now.
Coupled with VPN for work, I use the RDP app now...and it's much cheaper.
The bad thing about Splashtop is this...if you leave a computer logged off but powered on, it will not connect. Not a big deal, but if you reboot/forget to leave it logged on (and locked) you won't be able to connect.
I got it when it was $5.00...and it was worth it then. Now, I have a 2.99 RDP app and it works just fine and works whether the PC/Server is logged on or not.
You also have to install the streamer app on any desktop you choose to connect to.
With the RDP client, it's the same as always...inside your network just type the IP, outside your network setup port forwarding as needed.
I've also never been able to get Splashtop to work on any port other than the default, while RDP works on any port specified...
Splashtop, however....with your google sign in is simple stupid once you install the app and the streamer on your computer, except for the reasons specified above...
I tried using splashtop to play Titan Quest a while ago (sort of a Diablo clone). It's mostly point and click gameplay, so I thought it might be ok, but I just never was able to get it comfortable. For one thing, getting the resolution ok seemed to be a hangup, and it wasn't terribly responsive. For anything more graphically intensive, or anything close to quick-paced, I don't think it's going to be worth it, frankly. It's no Onlive.

It looks like they finally fixed the issues with Splashtop HD and the 10.1. I want to know if anyone is using it and if so, how is it so far? I'm very close to buying it, but want to know for sure that it is working.

I saw that in the market this morning. I'm curious if when you access your PC, if it does like other remote desktop type apps and actually shows on my screen at home when I'm away. I'd have to remember to turn my display off, but leave my cpu on if that is the case I assume.
I have it. works fine. I see almost no difference between it and the non-hd version though. hopefully they add all the features they have on the ipad soon.
Does it take up the full tab screen? Does it still change the resolution on the pc?
Has to be some reason for hd version.

So it doesn't support higher resolutions? I'm trying to decide between this one and Remote Desktop Client. It has great reviews.
I own it. It has the option to scale the screen to match the tab, or set it to 1280x720 to fit the tab. Works great, provided the computer is both on and logged in.
Unfortunately, on headless servers the software is useless because the client software requires a user to bbe logged in and active. When an RDP session ends, the software shuts down automatically and prevents login through Splashtop.

I have a similar setup where that issue affects me. I also wish it could zoom if you did want to use a higher resolution.
It is very fast, you could watch a movie from local network fine but with a little bit of delay.

yes, it does support higher resolutions.
The resolutions are
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 720
Best fit to this device

So basically it does any resolution if you choose native of the computer.

I use this type of app numerous times a day to get info off my companies servers as well as use our company data software.
I have used this for the past 5hrs and im impressed so far. Works well. Maybe a little lag once in a while...but im assuming that's from spotty 3g service (tethered to phone).
I got this app yesterday so I could stream live TV from windows media center on my desktop. The video was surprisingly smooth. I would say it ran pretty close to 30 fps with some fps hiccups from time to time. The audio was great as well.
I haven't tried using VLC but if you're looking to watch other things than video files, this app works great. Other remote desktop apps come nowhere close to the video and audio performance of this one.

What makes this better than free one like 2X ? Really would like to know.
Also I found a hack that lets windows home edition work like a terminal server which is saweet!
Even lets you connect console and have more than two users just like terminal server.
EDIT: ah I see now 2x won't play video over rdp... Window is black in player
Splashtop doesn't use traditional remote desktop protocol, it uses its own streamer that you install on the computer/server. I've never seen regular remote desktop or vnc server/client stream this well, especially with videos.
I have no experience with 2x but no video or black video window on client/secondary monitor is usually due overlay issues. Try changing video player setting away from overlay.
What kind of upstream connection do you guys have? Splashtop HD works amazingly well on my local network, but once I try using remotely I find it's performance leaves something to be desired. It works OK, but is generally slow and I wouldn't even think of doing any audio or video with it. My upstream is capped to around 100 kb/s or maybe a little higher, so I suspect that may be the issue.
Does anybody know of a solution that works better with such bandwidth constraints. I'd like to be able to remote in on my tablet and from my computer at work.
Splashtop is great on a LAN, but not as good over the internet. My cable (comcast blast) upload is ~3.7 Mbps at home, and the DSL download at work is 3 Mbps. And even then watching videos is not good. The audio portion is fine, the video portion is about 3 frames per second and less.
For watching video over the internet, Plex or Playon should be better. With Plex, you can adjust for your bandwidth. I think Playon detects your upload and adjust accordingly.
I couldn't get Plex to detect my server over the internet to test on my Gtab 10.1, works on a regular computer browser so it's not a firewall issue. Playon works fine for streaming. But I suspect your 100kbps could be problematic.
So between LogMeIn Ignition, 2X, Remote Desktop Client, and Remote RDP, which do you all recommend?
I plan to use it for repairing/diagnosing software issues from my house instead of having people bring me their computers.
I'm (generally) not that interested in watching video via remote desktop of any sort. It would be nice if I could use spotify from work sometimes though. Mostly I just want to have access to my appications (not to mention unrestricted internet access) on my home computer.

I wanted to try Minecraft and it works really well, the arrow keys work but when I try to use the mouse, the pointer uses the pointer on the tablet and not in Windows. Splashtop doesn't really have a lot of features, anybody have any experience with a different app. that allows the pointer to be used better in windows?
Id be interested to hear from what other people are running as well. I'll be using my prime to connect to my work pc so I can do estimates on the go.

Because that has about 5% of the features of the actual Minecraft game. Also, my cousins run a server and you can't connect to those in that app.

oh i dont really play thats stupid thhey should make app alot better
Pocketcloud works when splashtop won't. My PC won't wake up after about 30 minutes of inactivity when using splashtop but pocketcloud still works.

Thanks for sharing but I just tried PocketCloud and it was a laggy mess compared to Splashtop.
I use teamviewer more often than anything else. I haven't tried gaming with it, but just thought I'd through that out there as an option.

Well for gaming, there's the OnLive option. Bad thing is it'll cost some money. I really haven't seen anything else satisfactory to stream games.

Well all windows PC, windows xp and beyond have rdp all you have to do is enable it and then you can connect to it with any rdp client.
Teamviewer is what I use, works great on every platform I have tried.
I use log me in ignition and i love it.

The Xtralogic remote desktop app is a real RDC which doesn't require anything to be installed on the host system. It actually interfaces with Windows software beyond just showing you a clickable image like a lot of VNC apps.
My question is has anyone installed Xtralogic RDC on their prime, and does it work well?

I used Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client. It's in Market for $25, but there's a trial available. I use it on my Galaxy Tab 10.1, my Galaxy Nexus, and have used it in the past on the TF101 and Galaxy S.
It works with the built-in RDP server on Windows 7, Vista, XP. I used it every day to manage a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. It also supports Terminal Services (RD Gateway) and Windows 8 (tested it with a Windows 8 VM).
It's not the best for streaming video from another computer, but in terms of true RDP compatibility, I have yet to see anything that beats it. $25 buys you a lot of updates, support, and flawless functionality.
@thegadfly you must have responded right after I clicked reply I'll be getting the Prime tomorrow so I'll post back here when I test it.
I used Splashtop on my TF1 - only one I found that properly used the keyboard and touchpad in the dock. Will be sticking with it for the TF2. Tried the phone version update on my Note this morning (now supported 720p resolution) and it's awesome - faster than before and new touchpad input is great.

So I got my dock today and I've begun sampling remote desktop solutions including several RDP clients, VNC clients and Splashtop HD.
So far Splashtop seems to be the clear winner in terms of video performance, which is important to me as I'd like to at least be able to do simple things in games with high video demands (check the auction house in MMOs for example). The problem is that when I plug in a USB mouse or use the touchpad with Splashtop HD, there is no right click support- right click seems to be bound at some level to back in Android. I have not pulled the trigger yet on Remote RDP (paid) because I already own splashtop, so any comparison between the video on the two would be great, also.
So, questions:
How might it be possible to change the way android sees a right click from the mouse? If it were possible to make android see a right click as a random rarely used character like ` (tilde), there are ways to tell your desktop to interpret such a key as a right click (mousefighter comes to mind).
If the above proves impossible or unwieldy, is anything comparable in terms of video to splashtop?
I agree splashtop is pretty incredible from a video standpoint. You might try gotomypc? I believe they have an android app.
I didn't know about this right click issue, I've been using splashtop but I don't have my dock yet.
I'm sure there is a workaround...

i use pocketcloud. The free version only allows one config but i just reconfig when i need to. It has a nice mechism for different mouse and keyboard functions but i have not tried an actual mouse with it. Not sure how good video and stuff is since i just use it to admin servers. It does pass windows sounds though.

Just to let you know there is a THD version that is up on the market now that works better and faster then the bundled version though it costs money. I am using it now and can connect to my home computer from work and its super fast. I love it. Use it at work all the time during meetings to connect to my desktop. The bundled version will close the connection on you due to a bug in that version. The THD version does not have this issue.
Just my 3 cents.

actually hes talking about the MyNet app that comes with the prime
its not a desktop mirroring tool it just allows streaming of media (pics videos music) to the prime from a pc
its actually pretty cool in how well it does it but it can stream MKVs though
It also allows the downloading of the files from the pc to the prime...its a nice way of moving files without having to plug in or use a sd card or dropbox
i wish it allowed folder downloading or multiple downloading rather than having to do a single file at a time.
Yeah, the MyNet app is a DLNA app for streaming media between DLNA devices. To me it seemed to be a decent proof of concept app, but I have found three apps that do a better job: 2player, BubbleUPnP, and iMediaShare.
iMediaShare can stream from several internet sources to your DLNA devices, but it's unfortunately still not optimized for tablets. It forces you into portrait mode.
For streaming music from my Prime to my blu-ray/stereo, I typically use BubbleUPnP.

Well when you read the op he states talking about controlling your laptop.....was confusing.....i use MovieBrowser UPnP.....just love the way it organizes the movies.......
So Op, sorry for the confusion.
I've used both apps and had good success with them.
I really like the MyNet app though as its a simple program that lets my stream movies/tv shows from my NAS to the TV in my bedroom. No more lugging the laptop up the stairs and clearing a space to put it!

Are you sure you mean the mynet app or do you the splashtop hd remote pc access function in the my cloud app?
From reading your poast I think that you mean teh My desktop feature in the my cloud app which is splashtop HD remote app which links up with a splashtop streamer app on your PC !! and this does not require you to be on the same wifi connection...I often use it to connect to my pc when away from home to check on email accounts etc
I'm sorry, it is the "mycloud" icon on the screen that I meant. From there you find the "my desktop" option which uses splashtop.
i know it is off topic....but i have used PhoneMyPC for years. love it. great app for controlling your various PCs from your android.
Loving mynet, works flawless with all my gizmos. Sitting waiting for someone to start using cornerstone in a rom and i will use it as my main tv interface.

I use my desktop somewhat. Play games once in awhile...But mainly use my Prime...It plays games that I like. I stream Netflix for movies, tv shows etc...Why do I even need a desktop anymore.
Would I miss it if it were gone? Not sure.

Well i play games on mine plus i have 3tb of storage that i use to stream movies to two TVs in the house. That and i had a desktop before the prime and resell value sucks so not worth the hassle to sell it for a low amount. And i still use ms office on the desktop.
i actually don't have a desktop...or pc anymore. Completely abandoned them for the Prime. Why? Well first it was because I wanted to see if Android was self sufficient yet - could I do the same things I do on the Prime that I do on my PC...and the answer was an overwhelming YES.
There are lots of wishes though - I wish I had USB 3.0 more than ever. I wish there were at least 2 USB ports on my prime - but the hub seems to temporarily work. Most importantly, however, I wish there was an automatic editing program like Kingsoft or QuickOffice Pro that offered an in-program printing solution. This is probably my #1 complaint.
I use PrinterShare (paid key) for Docs and PDFs (do a lot of printing of those) - and for my photos, I use Canon EPP which works well when I print pictures. However, neither of these programs offer the customization of printing within Windows - such as auto center for pdfs or High Quality color printing within Canon EPP.
Now I know either Acer or Toshiba is coming out with a tablet with built in printing - to any printer!! that's news to me, I only hope it can work effectively, as I still cannot print collate documents all the time.
But why do you have a desktop? Probably because in time you will still need it - or you haven't forced yourself to use Android consistently. Flash is working well for me, one way or another, in either Opera Mobile Browser or ICS Browser +. I haven't used Dolphin in a while but most flash applications and java intensive work well within Opera and Browser+.
I also tend to use OnLive for streaming windows desktop - If i REALLY need something. I know in terms of games with GaiKai system coming it is going to be very different in the future - and one day when I have a fast enough internet connection sure I'll play Skyrim streaming. My big wish was that the Padfone came over to the US before the SGS III - but it hasn't and it won't. I truly wanted to be the all-in-one. I'm tired of checking my android phone when it beeps if it's a text message or email - and then to check my prime for the same thing. I do wish I could have bought the padfone - I think it's a fantastic idea and I dont even care that it's that thick - I just hope they did enough hardware enhancements that the hinge isn't too bad and they added enough counter weights to the keyboard dock. I definitely thought the pricing, for what it offered, wasn't bad at all.
Sorry to go off a little topic but - with your desktop you can do one thing very well......
