[Q] Remapping hardware button for app switching - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've found many threads to remap buttons on devices, but I couldn't find any way to remap holding what the home button does.
I would like to change the search button to switching apps, instead of holding the home button. I've heard of APP_SWITCH, but that only shows recent apps (like gingerbread). I'm on a ICS rom and would like that functionality on the search button.
Thanks in advance.

Moving to Q&A

I'm looking for something like this for days now.
i now where i can change the function the search button is doing, but i have no idea to what i have to change that..
For someone with knowledge it shouldnt be hard to find out what a long home press is doing (script wise) and then we could just change the function of the search button..
I hope somebody with know how reads this, because its a great idea for, example the nexus s

[Q] Remapping buttons to use "LONG PRESS BACK KEY OR MENU KEY"

I have the sgs2 for a few months, Im very satisfied with this phone, But there is a thing I cannot live with, THE HOME BUTTON, I dont know why? but a I dont like it at all, I prefer non physical buttons, so Ive been proving some apps to avoid it, someones like button savior, swipepad and wave launcher (This one is absolutely great).
I just wanna know: is there a way to remap LONG PRESS "BACK KEY" to go to home?, just like long press menu does to go to search!. I proved BUTTONREMAPPING but it doesnt have the "long press" options. I was searching and now I know that files on /system/usr/keylayout and /system/usr/keychars setup the keys on the phone, indeed /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl shows the default capacitive buttons setup, but I dont have enough knowledge to change "LONG PRESS" options on this keys.
so:
Some of you guys know about it?
It is possible or not setup LONG PRESS BACK OR MENU KEY on SGS2?

There certainly is way to achieve such a thing but i certainly dont know what the way to do so without replacing launcher and having it doing so or maybe replacing Rom. I qould love to know a way to get it done without having to go through that.

You will have to ask one of the modders to do it for you, try contacting one of the modders who has made "long press to kill process" it will be fairly easy for them.

Any fix ?
I want to remape my menu to back and menu to app switch like the navbar =D
If you don't mind going custom, then cyanogenmod has this (sort of) in an option in the developer options of their roms.......you long press the back button and it kills the running processes (apps)

[Q] Customize Hardware Keys

I was wondering if anyone knows a way to change the function of any of the four hardware keys at the button of the device.
For example, I do no use nor like the search key. So I was wondering if there was a way to change it so when I tap on it the applications drawer would open instead.
Any help would be awesome, thanks
I was going to suggest Button Remapper, until I saw that you wanted to open your app drawer with the search button. I used it to make the search button duplicate the menu button action for a while, but ended up changing it back.

I don't have a ton of experience with Tasker, but you might be able to get Tasker to do it.
I will check it out. Thank you

Looks like there is no option to change to open the app drawer. Worth a shot

Sorry to raise an older thread, however, I am curious if you needed to do anything other than install / run the remapper app?
I am trying to get it to work, to no avail. It opens, I see the options, I change the functions from search to camera, save, apply. After I reboot, it still does the search, no camera. The remapper program also sees the 'saved' functions of camera, but still no luck.

[Q] Customize Cap Buttons

Is there a mod or kernel that allows us to customize the capacitive button actions (e.g. add a long press action to the menu button or change the short press action for the search button)? I haven't come across anything in my searching, but I haven't seen anything that explicitly says it's not possible either.
Check out the LaunchKey App...it maybe what you are looking for.
I can't post links...but you can find it over on the "Android Apps and Games" xda forum
Thanks man. I was hoping for something that would add long presses to the menu and back buttons too, but the custom menu option for the search key is sweet. Thanks again.

[Q] Button Remap i9100

Hi, so I was lurking the interwebz for something that would let me remap the keys on my S2 in a specific way, specifically the same way the Galaxy Nexus has them, back, home & recents.
I found something that got me a little up to target, and that's the abandoned Button Remapper project. I remapped my keys and inversed the meny and search key (I never have the backlight on, it's unsightly, so their reposition doesn't bother me) unfortunately, Button Remapper doesn't feature a "Recents" function to map (probably because it was last updated January last year, before this multitasking sh** got serious on Android).
So I was wondering if someone knows someone or some tricks to get the buttons working in that order.
Oh and of course manipulating Android into providing an on-screen menu key where applicable is probably a must for the solution to go big time.
I'd look into creating something myself as I found a thread that talks about remapping keys by editing Android code (can't find the link in history) but I have to study for end of year exams at the moment.
So my question is, anyone know of or can create a solution? Maybe we can get the Button Remapper dev to update the app? Maybe you're looking at this right now? PEOPLE NEED YOU HERO!
Thanks.

Remapp menu button?

I'm using the latest Omega v7.0.
Is there any possibility to remapp the menu button with the multitasking function? It's always a pain holding the homebutton down for many seconds and waiting until the multitasking interface will show up.
As the HTC One series I'd like to get some sort of menu buttons displayed on the screen if necerary.
C'mon guys anyone?
I wish someone can develop on this too... This is possibly the worst experience I have with my S3, the lack of multitask button.
