Apps return to default positions after restart - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I have a question. On my sgs2 I have a problem with my latest upgrade. Every time I restart all my apps and icons in my desktop and app tray seem to go back to their default order. But this happens with every reboot. I'm on 2.3.5. Any ideas on what I can do? I'm not rooted nor do I want to.
Here is a screen shot of my os version.

Please try the following - just step by step. If one step does not help then try the next step:
1. Reboot into recovery mode (Volume UP + Home + Power, hold the keys until the recovery menu appears), wipe cache partition and reboot your phone.
2. Go to Settings menu => Applications => Manage applications => All => TwLauncher => Clear data. You may have to reboot the phone to test it.
3. Backup all your user apps for example by using Titanium Backup from the Market. Then reboot into recovery mode, do a factory reset and reboot your phone. Then restore all your user apps (only user apps - please do not restore system apps) from the backup. Reboot your phone to test it.
4. Use another launcher, such as Nemus Launcher from the Market.
Good luck !

I had the same problem before, and i do a format, and everything it was ok!!!

[Q] Screen locked.

Hello, I have a HP Touchpad 32GB running with Cyanogen Alpha3.
Yesterday i set up a locked home screen with a pin.
But if my TP locked the screen there is no field and no pattern to put in a pin?
How can I fix these problem.
I reflash alpha 3 but the problem is still there.
Thanks for help.
Have you got ADB set up for your touchpad?
No, do you have a how to do, for that ?
ADB Install help:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
How to unlock your device using ADB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971768
Then you can play with the lockscreen settings till you get the settings for CM7 right.
EDIT: The above links only allow you to unlock if you have the above problem, it won't help you fix this problem if this is a CM7 bug, but you can try.
But I am not sure is USB Debugging is on.
Or can I reset my TP to factory settings ?
If you didnt turn it off, its on by default, look for a bug in the notifications to verify it.
Reset, I'm not sure. When you reflash, it maintains the previous settings?
Side note: It is good to have ADB installed, it is mandatory for a device like TouchPad which needs developers loving
Ok, than I will try it after work,
But there is a symbol on my notification bar, look like a oval, a horizontal line and a horizontal wave line and a red 4 on the corner.

Can I make a backup with cwm, than reset to Factory.
Reboot and than restore with cwm. Or if I restore all with cwm than I have the same set up ?
With the same Problem ?
Or it is possible to restore only my apps ?
Backup apps + data using titanium backup after applying the above method. Don't back up restore with CWM cause you will still be locked out of your TouchPad like now
Now your priority is on getting into ur device to disable the lock or tweak the settings to perfection

But if my USB Debugging is off, than I have no chance with adb ?
Yup you will not be able to use.

Yes I tried and nothing

Do you have a 3rd party call app installed like go contacts ex?
If not try this-
Go to Settings > Application Manager > All applications (in the tabs across the top).
Locate and tap the BadgeProvider app.
Tap Clear data to reset the counter.

I sont use any app for that and unfortunately clear data of badgeprovider doesn't work
I know I can fix it with factory reset ut only for this I dont do it cuz I have a lot of apps ...200+ backup and restore takes so much time
Edit : rebooted after clearing data works

Did u try viewing the logs rather than sliding the notification off??? coz that usually does the trick! if not, delete the logs once u r in it n try restarting the phone (restart by shutting off completely sand then turnin it on again)! this resolved the issue on ma friends phone! Hope it does on urs too! :fingers-crossed:
(sorry, didn see the prob was already solved! )

Using adb, you can try running Settings and see what's going on. Are your apps really missing or is your launcher just screwed up?
Do you have any data on the device? I would consider just backing up everything and reflashing a stock ROM or doing a clean wipe.

I already tried that and all APPs are missing. There's nothing installed. and I don't have custom recovery to return to stock ROM. And can't install gapps because in recovery there's no section saying install zip or something like that. i tried and wrote gapps and rom on sd card and can't flash them.
Have you tried adb pushing the apk for google apps and then launching the app via homescreen icon or adb shell command?
This is the first time I've ever encountered all apps missing. Also since you don't have a custom recovery installed, you can always root and install it.

Thank you for your help but i think it's dead. I tried pushing apps and launching via shell but no deal. I installed play store but when i try to download something it crushes immediately. Thanks again...

Help: Syncing after first turn-on

Hello,
When you first open a new phone ( in my case galaxy s8+ ), you are prompted to enter your google account.
if you have a backup you'll get the following screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
In case you chose not to enter a Google account at this stage, and you decided to do it later, you won't get this option.
for example, you will be able to sync contacts if you enter a Google account later, but you won't be able to restore your applications or call history.
I couldn't find inside the settings how to perform this special first-run syncing. is there a way to perform it without factory reset?
Maybe sending an intent with ADB to the app that is responsible for it?
Thanks,
Ana

There is a option in Google drive app to manage device backup, I think you can restore it from there, not 100% sure but I think I saw an option like that on the app.

Sorry but I don't think you can without resetting your phone, or at least I have not heard or read about anyone restoring from drive without resetting. You can install apps from the store and restore the app data automatically after installing, I think the option is in the backup and reset section in the settings menu of the device.

Question Realme GT missing basic apps

Hello everybody
First time poster thanks for the help in advance. Please note I am a total novice when it comes to anything like rooting or unlocking boot but i can follow instruction if you leave them.
I bought my phone from Ali express global launch event. When I received the phone i noticed some basic functionality is missing for example : Gallery, File explorer, CAMERA APP. and so on.
It doesnt make sense, my camera works through whatsapp and such but no dedicated app.
I am starting to think the firmware was faulty. Waited for few updates hoping it will sort itself out, but no luck.
Now I am considering installing stock firmware but I have no idea where to start. I have downloaded few roms "different versions?" but i don't know how install them on my phone. They are on the root of the phone storage but i assume i must root my phone to get fast boot ? because i tried restarting with holding volume down, after language selection i can chose between wipe and reboot no update option.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
If you use the App Drawer view, you may find the missing icons there.
In settings/app-management/app-list you will find all installed apps.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Only found files in app list but I can't open it. Other apps have options of : open, uninstall, and force stop but not this app. For the other apps like camera and gallery they are not there. Do you think a fresh install of stock ROM will help or no ?
If the apps are not displayed in your app list, the best thing you can do is do a factory reset.
Which firmware version do you have on the GT ?
The GT was in its original packaging and shrink-wrapped when you received it ?
Ya it was brand new. Bought from Realme official store.
I see your firmware is A 16 mine is A13 but when I check for update it says am on the latest version?!
Also my Google backup is greyed out so factory reset will set me back big time.
