[Q] No Service after using Odin to install XWKDD insecure - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I followed external instructions titled "How to Root Samsung Galaxy S2 easily" (sorry, can't link) to attempt to root my brand new Samsung Galaxy S2 on Sprint in the US. And while everything seemed to work, the phone now has No Service. Just a big old circle with a slash through it, no matter how many times I reboot or how long the battery is out of the phone.
I am fairly inexperienced with rooting phones... I've flashed a few roms to an old Droid X, but that's about it. I'd love if someone more advanced would advise me on the right steps here so I can avoid bricking this further. I'd like to come out of this unexpected situation with a successful root, but beggars can't be choosers; I'd be happy to just undo this and get the phone back to working order.
Thank you!

Dude if it's a sprint device (Epic 4G) then u dun goofed, the firmwares and kernels in this forum are not going to work on it. Look for the Epic 4G forum for firmware to reflash the device.

Thank you. I reposted on the Epic 4G Touch Q&A board.

New phone and need a little assistance.

This is my first android phone. Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. I plan on rooting my phone tomorrow and I was wanting to put 2.2 firmware on the phone. I have been told that there are different roms and such and I was hoping someone here could tell me which is the best way to go about upgrading my phone. I tried reading some threads but I am not sure which is the best way to go. Any help would be appreciated.
If you've never rooted your phone and installed a custom ROM before... Read, read, read these forums and especially the thread for the ROM you are thinking of installing. Know how to get yourself out of a jam before you even get in it.

+1...This is what I followed when I flashed my wifes vibrant awhile back, and followed again just a few days ago when I picked mine up.
As for 2.2 ROMs...you will just have to play with them. I would recommend starting with flashable ROMs as they are a little easier to work with if you do not have a lot of experience with flashing
I might suggest this one if you want a no frills basic 2.2 stable, rooted ROM to work with

Thread cleaned. Stop the flaming.
Thanks for the replies! I will start off with that nice guide on how to root the phone. I get the phone tomorrow so hopefully I will not be in here crying about how I ruined my phone. The last phone I modded was the first gen iPhone a few years back. There are so many different things to read that this is a little confusing. I mostly created this thread to get pointed to what works best for those on this forum.

[Q] Root Telus Galaxy 4G T959P

Hi All
I am looking to root the telus Galaxy 4g model T959P. I have read that the T959D can be done by doing Odin to speedmod kernel then flashing the stock telus kernel which is 2.3.3 not the 2.3.4 that I currently have. So I don't think that will work. Has anyone been successful with this and if so please share. I know I am suppose to be in the forum specific to my phone but that isn't going to happen see the link below. If someone could help me out that would be great....

Just as a heads up, Ive tried super 1 click 20 different ways to sunday, another guy tried Z4 Root. I have searched a lot of forums (none that actually refer to this phone since they don't exist). Google searches bring up some information but it is all foyo based nothing for gingerbread. Any developer want to take a crack at this? I'm kind of surprised there isn't even just a Telus forum here........
I sure hope im not the only one that wants to root the telus galaxy 4g

[Q] Noob - Where to Start

Hiya guys,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that I got this week. Im finding the phone is brilliant to use at the moment and works very well. It's alot better for me to use this device that it was when I had my previous phone which was an iPhone (don't shoot me)...
Anyway here we are. I've had the phone 4 days and i'm wanting to root it. The main reason for this is that I hate bloatwear. Samsung have filled it with all their own specific software that they find useful and I don't want that. All I want is a lovely OS with no Samsung to worry about etc.
Right a little about what i'm wanting. Ok so the phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100. The andoid version is 2.3.4, the Baseband is I9100XXKI1 and the Build is GINGERBREAD.
Im basically wanting to install the exact same version of Gingerbread but without all the bloatwear. Is this possible? Im completely new to this so any guides and tutorials that you can point me to would be brilliant. Is there anything I should be wary of when rooting my phone etc.
I have been looking around on the net and from what I can see Cyanogen M7 seems to be the same version as what im on now other than you don't get the touchwiz.
Any help would be brilliant on where to start.
If there are any questions then please ask.
Regards,
Just freeze the bloat yourself, rather than trying to find a ROM with it removed.
Root via zergRush, freeze bloat with one of the apps on the market.
However, if you do go down the CM7 route, just follow the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176411
Other things to look out for. If any instructions are telling you to make a nandroid backup, do it, and back up your efs folder. You can use Hellcat's kTool for that.
Ok thanks for your post. So i guess my next question is What is Rooting and what does it actually do to your phone?
Do I need to root my phone in order to install new Roms??
Also the link to the M7 *Nightly* release you gave me. Is that stable? I read on their forums that I should only look at installing their *Stable* release and be wary of their *Nightly* release as its still buggy.
Since your first post said you were wanting to root, I kinda thought you'd know why. Bad assumption on my part, I know.
Anyway, before you flood the place with more questions, have a read for a while.

[FAQ] GT-i9100 Galaxy S II FAQ thread
Also, there is no so called "stable" CM7 build for the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Hi again.
Ok so I've had a read through the links provided to me and Im positive i want to root my device so that i can install new roms and unlock the phone and such. So next then can someone suggest what method i should do next. could someone also tell me what cf-root and clockworkmod is? Im confused as to what these are.
Regards
CF will give you root and clockwork, you can then reboot into clockwork and flash roms. Just make sure you read everything thoroughly and be sure to avoid the repartition option in odin.

Thanks but could you explain to me what they both do? Im assuming that its better to use cf-root as it allows you to install roms also...
Love spoon feeding eh?

Exactly. What you need to do is some searching/reading & learning on your own.
Reported post for user not searching/reading and wanting to be spoon fed.
Rule #1 is to use the Search function.
This phone is not new by any means, so that answers are all out there. Just look in the General, Q&A and Development Stickies and the answers you will find.

Samsung noob looking for root advice

Hi there,
as I'm totally noob on Samsung and I don't know really nothing about their devices - my brother in law gave me his business S3 (GT-I9300) for his vacation with the order to get him the current rom flashed.
Now, as I'm a HTC fanboy this is really pain as I'm currently trying to figure out what is needed to flash a custom rom.
I know an HTC needs to be unlocked/ s-offed/ rooted - but what about a Samsung?
Heard somewhen some words like Kies and Odin and am trying now a noob proof tool named SkipSoft Toolkit
I really lost overview here because all specific Samsung relevant words and explanations are like Alien language to me....
If someone could just point me to the steps I'd follow like
1. Unlock with ____link____
2. Root with
3. Recovery
4. other steps
I'd really appreciate your help!!
