Hey guys, so I have came to the conclusion that my tab is hard bricked (screen won't turn on, won't charge, and won't detect on the computer (not even apx mode).
Btw, if anyone else has the same problem but is able to get to apx mode when plugged in to your computer, your tab is most likey soft bricked.
Does anyone know of any methods to unbrick my tab, (hardbrick). I have heard of people using USB JIG for their galaxy s II, anything similar for tab 10.1?

Did you try to power button thing when plugged into a wall? The battery could be dead. Otherwise yes, a USB Jig is the next option I would think.

Yes I have tried that, in fact I opened it up to check the battery and its fine, it has voltage and is charged, yes USB Jig would be great, do you know if there is one for Galaxy Tab 10.1?
Thanks

I believe any of them work...although are you even getting anything to show up on your screen? If not I doubt it will do **** for you.
Edit: Right on the main page here it says:
"As long as there is something on the screen, the jig should work for you."

You could probably pretty easily make your own jig, but as my edited post says that doesn't look like a promising route for a hardbrick.

yes thats true, there is a wat to fix the old galaxy tabs with JTAG, but I dont think that is available for the 10.1 yet
I had a similar problem when the tab first came out
The first tab I received got itself into a similar state. When I was escalated through the support chain somehow I got to a tech rep who actually seemed to know what they were doing. He told me what they do when they get these tabs is open them up and force the tab to zero charge, clear the memory, and the tab will reboot to the recovery. He also told me there wasn't an easy way for users to do this. If that's where you are you probable have to return your tab for repair or replacement. sorry.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I'm not sure, it was working fine, it just stopped working randomly, I believe this was due to the update that caused a lot of TABs to experience the same problem

That sucks, hopefully I can find some solution, the Galaxy Tab (not 10.1) has a solution for hard bricks now, using JTAG, I guess that may be the only option, to wait until JTAG gets the appropriate files
Does anyone know of anyone who would know how to fix this issue?

I was flashing my Vibrant back to the stock ROM using ODIN, and I had the re-partition checked off... and I think this is what killed my vibrant. If I click the power button it doesn't do anything. It has a full battery and even with it on the charger... still nothing. I can't see anything on the screen. What are my options to fix my Vibrant?

Sorry to disappoint you; it seems that you are out of luck. I was flashing my Vibrant in the similar situation like yours and my phone has never turned on again since then (6 weeks). I live in Thailand and have been searching both English and Thai version for a solution. None comes up so far. The only way the USB jig will help is your phone can be powered up. I have tried that myself. You can look for the confirmation elsewhere in this forum. Any way if you can find a diy solution, please let me know and I will post it here if I can find one myself. Thanks!

they bro, i appreciate that your trying to help the guy but read.
the title states its a "HARD BRICK" meaning it will not turn on. If the OP has enough sense to name the thread its a HARD brick, then i'm sure he knows what a hard brick is. All solutions your leading to cannot be done AT ALL. The phone is a paperweight, you cant do anything but 2 things:
@OP
Do one of these 2 things:
1) build a JIG costs around 10$ a bit more or a bit less. but no over than 15$
(search JIG for vibrant on youtube by mobiletechvideos)
2) Send it to tmobile.
I hard bricked my phone 4 days ago.
I called them, and their sending in a replacement, and i send them mine and im done.
It cost me 10$ for shipping and handling but thats it.

Your first option is out because I have tried that. The only option left is the second one. since I live in Thailand, I have to ship the phone to my friend in Los Angeles to have him replace it for me. It is costly, but at least I will get a phone to work.
It seems to me that this issue is a special case that doesn't happen very often. Only the chosen ones will get into trouble like this when making an error here and there while flashing rom.
I had an IPhone 3G before and, of course, I made mistakes while updating it with all kinds of firmware, but the hardware never fails on me no matter what I did.
Thanks all who try to help.

Just because he put hard bricked in the title means little. It was his first post. He very well could be a aviid user. All I could go by is he said he hit power and nothing happend thats about all he said over and over. No battery pull 3 button try. So what I did was try to help thats it. I'm not getting on your back, why is it you think so?
Most of the users as i've encountered don't have the sense to name their threads appropriately, the OP on this one specifically named it HARD BRICKED, so instead of telling him to do all these instructions, you could've asked 1 thing "when you plug your usb, or wall charger, does it show any lights? or Are there any symbols on the screen? any lights glowing?"
Those 2 questions could've saved him, and you time.
Trust me i'm a beginner as well, i just know how to get out of these because i've been with this problem a few times. Alot of people here know more than me, specifically s15.. idk his full name.
i tried flashing with ordin3, in the middle (or maybe beggining or end not sure) i got the blue screen and now when i try and boot my galaxsy s 2 it doesnt boot up. doesnt power up or anything.. what should i do!?!
Mobiletechvideos has a service they can revive it. I had to use them for my infuse about a month ago. Service is top notch and I believe it cost 40 bucks which IMO isn't bad.

Try taking battery completely out then with Odin open hold up and down volume plug USB cable into phone from pc. Should load download mode. I had this happen when I had the captivate.
If everything else fails, buy or make a USB JIG. It can put your phone into download mode easily.

That's exactly what I said - it's next to impossible to hardbrick a phone unless you flash bootloaders (which it seems like he somehow did) - and if your bootloaders are broken, jig won't work.
So my original claim stands - I know of no situation where jig will work and volup + voldn + USB insertion won't.

I bricked my galaxy note i717 beyond recovery with a regular jig. I've looked into jtag but I haven't found any information whether it's viable for the i717 (i.e. which jtag it's using, which box I would need, where I would need to bring it etc etc.)
So here's my question: Do any of you guys know any more about how to unbrick the phone or details about whether/how to unbrick using jtag?
Maybe I've overlooked something else. Here's how it went down:
I was stupid and tried to flash the phone with firmware for the N7000 because I was overexcited and didn't know that it wasn't an n7000. Now the recovery mode wouldn't let me upgrade (understandable reasons I guess) so I decided to force flash it with odin which also didn't let me upgrade the phone. So I used some method relying on adb. The process took way to long so I unplugged the phone mid-way through it, then replugged it and suddenly the process reported success. So the phone started rebooting just that instead of actually booting up it stayed black. Pressing any of the buttons yields no response - neither vibration nor any screen response. Using the usb jig also yields no response but I'm not entirely sure if there's a jig method that might work - or a key combo that might work - or even a usb method that might work.
Anyway any advice would be highly appreciated.
Did you try return to the store where you boought it? If your phone don't show anything on the screen, there is no way store knows what's going on with your phone unless you tell them the truth
That's exactly what I would do

That's not guinea pig. He did couple wrong things in a row (wrong ROM, god know what he is doing with abd and then unplug the phone in the middle of flashing or something). If I'd make a guess, he screwed up the bootloader.

I know on some phones that download mode can still be activated even if the screen isn't working properly and displaying it. I know many infuse users ran into problems and were still able to use Odin to flash stock and fix their phone. Try doing the hardware method of getting into download mode, and even though your screen doesn't show anything, it may still connect to Odin and you could try to flash back to stock.

U cant brick these phones.use the hardware buttons to get into download mode.
Take battery out and put it back in.hold power vol down and home for 20sec and then press vol up and plug into ur pc with odin running.u should see something on port section.
If that dont work.hold power and both vol. Buttons for 30 sec. Then press vol.up and plug in usb.hope it works.

Actually, you can brick it to the point of needing JTAG repairs to restore your device. That being said, it's very very very hard to brick it. You have to do something like flash firmware for a completely wrong device and screw up your bootloaders in the process.

I've read some so my suggestion is this:
First make sure that you have the drivers installed for your phone. Then pull the battery wait for a few seconds. press the down button and then the power to go in download mode and hold them pressed for 20s. Now plug in the USB and press the volume up button. If Odin detects it you're good to go! If not... Well it's worth a shot
My theory is that even though the screen is blank, the hardware still boots properly. Just make sure your battery is somewhat charged. And also plug in the USB AFTER you "boot" in download mode.

Everything here screams 'you should never attempt to modify your device again.'
What is it with all you smart asses telling him he shouldn't have done it??? What, you never made a mistake in your entire life???

Why don't you find Adam_Outler in the hardware hacking forum? Send your phone to him and he'll hopefully be able to create an unbrickable mod. Not only will you likely have a fixed phone but it will mean volumes for our community.
Note, you will be without a phone for a bit
I did something stupid to my note too so don't feel too bad. **** happens... I returned my note to att with no problem because my screen was permanently black. Wouldn't do anything download mode, cwm nothin.. Flashed gsm kernel from root so beware the way its layed out u won't know its gsm unless you read it extremely careful. I had read the thread three times and only caught it after i read really slowly post-brick.

It's not that, we've all made mistakes, but it's like this guy went out of his way to try to brick the phone. This isn't like "oh crap, I flashed the wrong radio"
He tried to flash a ROM from a different SoC and every fail-safe wouldn't let him do it. I'm surprised at how well the different programs tried to save his phone, then he actually went ADB and forced it onto his phone and then he unplugs during a flash.
It's like he drove his car without paying attention and hit a fence that prevents you from flying off a cliff, then he kept ramming his car into the fence, then took some C4, blew up the fence, drove off the cliff, then started yelling "help, I fell off the cliff"

I'm confused, is there a CDMA Note? What do you mean "they won't know it's GSM"?
Bought one, but have to wait till it ships, so figured I would ask if anybody in the 757 has a mini-usb jig that I could use to get my Note into download mode. Send PM if you do.
Thanks in advance.

Walk me through that one, no response to anything, power and up volume results in nothing. Plugging into usb results in nothing Windows, ODIN nor Kies registers it.

I think this is what you're looking for, yes?
http://galaxys2root.com/tag/diy-usb-jig/
Sidenote:
I thought it was "down volume button + power " to get into ODIN mode for Samsung devices
up+ down is for recovery

Yep am with you on that one, I have soft bricked before, but nothing like this, my very first true brick of my cell. Hopefully Jig I ordered at least gets me into download mode, where I can fix it.

If you can see the samsung bootloader then yeah there's hope otherwise you're gonna need the $100 fix for it.
But at least people are responding, I got no love on my end, lol
keeping things in perspective, as I posted before, I have never seen anyone report that a jig does any good on this phone..
You would be better off either using JTAG, or calling Samsung, and playing stupid, and tell them it died after you did an update that the phone requested..they will send you a replacement, with no questions asked.
go through the general and q&a sections; you will see that a jig doesn't do anything for this phone..

Well smokestack76 told you differently yesterday. He said over 20 times with a jig. Plus for $1.60 I will give it a try.
yes, for the price, if it makes you feel better, try it..
and, if you believe him, when you can find 20 others that said it did absolutely nothing, then that's your choice.
the sooner you send it in to Samsung, the sooner you will have a working phone..
If Samsung is wiling to send you a loaner phone while you're under warranty i can't see why you wouldnt do that.
I know Nintendo is awesome like that but apparently Samsung reps are quite jaded when you do something silly like ask an honest question.
I wish Samsung would honor warranty services if the device hasn't been on the market longer than year.
I'm A. Maybe he Made a mistake and wants to own up for it insted of weasling into a fraudulent phone.
B. I would be a little jaded as well when I get people calling me all day that have messed up their own phone and are now trying to steal from me.
C. Samsung does honor warranties a year after the device has been on market. YOUR WARRANTY DOES NOT GO INTO EFFECT UNTIL THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE. not when the first one of its kind rolls off the assembly line.
Also, wase a jig does work of you are not actually bricked, if you were to be soft bricked the jig would force download mode. I had a captivate I built a jig for, first thing I did was try it on my note. Bam, download mode.
And finally op it's a micro usb jig not mini. Mini is bigger than micro
yeah bro, I know a jig works for SOME phones; it helped me bring my S2 back to life..
However, I have read many many reports of it doing nothing for the Note, so that was why I said what I did..
Plus, people are using the term "Bricked" around here in so many ways, that its hard to know what they mean when they say it..to me, a bricked phone is DEAD, and nothing but an expensive paperweight.....
I can take a video of my note going from off to download mode with nothing but my jig. However the same jig that works on both my phones is out of resistance tolerance on my brothers sgs2.
And yes bricked is used much too often,it is a term to describe when your phone is inert, has no pliability and just sits there, like the baked red clay building material it was named for.
was curious to see if the OP had any luck with the jig....
Well the jig did nothing for me. I suggest send your phone to mobiletechvideos.com for repair, he goes through the JTAG recovery method, and he also unlocked mine... he did a great job. I bricked my Note flashing a ROM for another device by mistake, could not use the jig for anything, so had it repaired. Feeling really happy now... hope this helps.
the jig isn't and was never meant to fix a hard brick...
[history lesson]
Back on captivate, certain bootloaders would disable the button combos for download and recovery, making a simple (I hate the term... But) soft brick into a much stickier situation, so it was discovered that using 300k ohms of resistance across certain pins on the usb port from a powered off state would trigger download mode in seconds, making you then able to simply odin a stock rom and try again.
It was later discovered that the jig had the same effect on the sgs2 with the added benefit of restting the flash counter.
[/history lesson]
If you flash a firmware for the international note on an i717 you will need jtag because you are indeed bricked of the hard variety.

Nope gig still in the mail, however took Note to ATT Device Service Center and they told me mother board failure and replaced it. So might not have been related to flashing, inspection seem pretty in depth, removed back cover, using multi meter type of tool and said mother board didn't provide correct response to input. My mandatory 10 days to return no functioning unit is 17 Dec so don't think will have chance to try the jig before I send it back or be charged $549 for non-functioning unit.

might as well keep the jig for the couple of bucks it cost..plus, even if it doesn't work for this phone, it might work for your next one!
I followed a root-guide a couple of weeks ago and my phone worked perfectly.
I have no memory of what ROM I used, nor do I remember if I flashed a Kernel or not. I'm pretty new at this.
Now, today, my phone sent a notification that a new firmware update was available. Stupid as I am I just press "install" right away. Not much later my phone tried to reboot and suddenly was stuck at the Samsung logo screen. I tried pulling out the battery to reboot and it still wouldn't work. If I connected it to my PC it shows a battery but the spinning arrow-thingy is frozen.
After searching these forums and other places I found several guides on how to fix stuff like this, by either flashing with a new kernel - or rom or w/e I don't know - or going into recovery mode and do something funky. The problem is that I can't reach recovery mode at all, and when I enter download mode it's just frozen at "Downloading..." and I can't get it to connect to my PC at all (tried both with and without Kies). In Odin the ID:COM cells won't update when I connect my phone.
Do you guys have any idea how to resolve this? Do I have to take it to a service centre?
Edit: The phone is out of battery, suddenly, apparently, so I tried to charge it, but that doesn't work either. What the **** has happened to my phone? Please help if you can!

*shameful bump*
As I have no chance of replacing this phone (because I'm pretty much broke) I really need to fix this on my own if I can. Last resort is borrowing money to send it to service.
If you have any suggestions or theories PLEASE reply ASAP. I will truly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
So Atm what does your phone do? Can you get to download mode? Vol-home and power does it go into that?
Buy a new motherboard. And with your memory, why not borrow the money lol.
-------------------------------------------
maybe your an iphone expert
------------------------------------------
I also stupidly pressed one of those "install update" stuff. Then i had the same symptoms until i removed the battery, then it wouldn't turn on - so i suspected hardbrick.
Lucky enough my warranty still had a month letf and they apparently didn't notice that i had rooted my device and thus vioded my warranty.
Are you sure all Kies' background tasks were closed?
Do you have access to a JIG?
There's anotehr way to get into download mode (other than vol down+power+home) i'll see if i can find it.
If it hardbricks maybe you also can make up a story and give it to them? (just a suggestion, nothing i can say but just mentioning since it worked for me)

Pretty much nothing. Yes I can get into it, but it says "Downloading... Do not turn off device" or something like that. Recovery Mode is inaccessible.

Yep, I even tried with a 100% uninstall and removal of it; still didn't work. No I do not, but I've considered buying one on ebay - they're like $1 with free shipping from China.

It has most definitely hardbricked. I've considered this: Go down there, act dumb, say after installing the firmware update my phone wouldn't boot and a yellow triangle suddenly appeared out of nowhere, or something like that.
I've only had this phone for half a year so I really wanna fix this if possible!
Thanks a lot for the feedback - please reply with more if you've got some suggestions/recommendations/tips/solutions!

Like just another cable or a "modified jig"? I've tried 3 different USBs and 2 chargers none of them worked. I do not have access to a "modified jig", yet. I will try to order one on eBay
Of course this is a drivers thing, you need your pc to see the device.
We got a couple of threads about that.

Oh so you don't think I've googled for hours to find solutions for this problem? Think again. Every "solution" i read is either take out the battery, enter recovery mode or use an USB jig. 2 of them don't work and the third is at the moment not possible as I don't have a jig.
No need to be rude.

you need to change your motherboard.
Take it to samsung service center near you and give it to them.
Same thing happened to me and only solution worked is the one that i just told you.
