[Q] horrible battery life - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys. after installing juggernauts battery fix v2 2 days ago I have been getting horrible
battery life I'm on cm7 bell attic with faux 1.45 kernel here's a screenshot of my usage I did everything I should have when I flashed this Tom and the fix and calibrated it and stuff

And why exactly did you need to apply this fix? Was anything broken before this? Not trolling, just want more info on your problem. This screenshot really looks horrible.

Dude, are you oc'd min/max at 1,45 GHz, playing a game at full screen brightness while you're downloading something in an area with low hspa signal as your maps where calculating a route..?!
Can't think of any other way a battery can die like that. Hell, I don't even think all the above would deplete it like you did..

brightness is turned all the way down and my phone is id's at 800 :/ I applied this fix cause my battery life was only 10 hours but now it's like 5

You're doing all the above minus the brightness..?
Go through this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198333 process, that will sort it out.
Also get betterbatterystats and look for whatever is eating battery.
P. S. What do you do in those 5 hrs that it lasts..?

It's the wake locks! I have the same issue but my battery still goes about a max.. probably 10 hours right now.....

all I do is text and play games for an hour at the most :/ and my brightness is all the way Down. it started doing this only after I applied the battery fix. which is very odd but I'll try calibrating it tonight

why haven't you charged your battery completely in 2 days?

I have the same issue .. battery is draining like hell .. !

I haven't had time to charge it but I did last night and its not draining that much anymore. ill try deleting the Facebook app and see what happens. I text quite alot though. probably send /receive 400 a day in total and go on Facebook all the tiem..kinda hard not to when you have al 6 gigs a month
also it says error when I try to turn on wifi and my phone shuts off randomly alot and it gets super hot..not sure if that's normal cause its underclocl when I use it :/

juggernaut fix only resolves the issue with the battery percentage jumping when you reboot phone. It doesn't resolve any battery draining problems.

The only thing I have to say to contribute here is that I'm on CM7, stock CM7 kernel, and my battery life has never been better. Many many users have reported the same.

some users report having like 20+ hours on their Phone..how is this possible? I'd be happy with even 16 hours. and ohh. yeah I was hoping that my battery percentage was just off and yeah haha. what do you mean. like your battery life got better since then or it never got better then any other rom?

Thought id post this cuz its been a while since I've had this kind of battery life.

Jugs battery fix is for battery jumping its a fix for that. Cm7 doesn't have battery jumping issues. Why would u apply it in the first place.

Ive always found the default CM7 kernel as having the best battery life. Faux kernel is more responsive but even with the enhanced 1ghz with/without undervolting, my battery drain is a lot worse.
Ive created a CWM zip just with the default kernel from weekly 3, its newer than the nightly ones and works great for me with the miui alpha as well
Heres the link for anyone that wants it

This is just not true. There are times when CM7 has battery jumping when I use it and the fix fixes it for me. He clearly has jumping issues from his attached img.

There are many settings to fix it.

Battery on CM7 and CPU speed

I've flashed cm7 yesterday and I've noticed that the battery life isn't that good. Is it gonna get better? I recalibrated the battery last night and I've seen little improvement ...and is there a way to change the CPU speed?

You might be stuck with the battery you have post calibration. As far as CPU speeds I believe you can slow down the speed but you cannot speed them up. We need unlocked bootloaders for that

Didn't mention that you can use ROM toolbox or the CPU manager found in cm7's settings to mess with CPU speeds.

I've tried changing the CPU speeds in those settings but nothing is changing. When I try to go to a lower speed, it just stays the same ... Any idea why?

Give the rom a couple days to "level" out. I just flashed eclipse 2.1 on my room mates phone and the first couple days his better life sucked and then it better and better, I suggest you do a battery calibration, some say it works others say it doesn't. I feel like it does.

Ight I will. I'm really loving this ROM
One thing I've noticed between the Blur-based ROMs and CM7 is that it seems that the display uses a lot more in CM7. On Blur ROMs "Phone Idle" has the highest % and on CM7 it's "Display". I've tried dimming the display and/or shortening the timeout but it doesn't really make much difference.
Also, FWIW, battery calibration is useless: https://plus.google.com/u/0/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT

Battery differences on ICS

Not sure if it's me but figured I'd ask the community. Has anyone been getting worse battery life after flashing ICS? I came from UnNamed rom with Entropys daily driver and had about 40% after 17 hours on a daily basis (2 and a half hours screen time texting, web, XDA, etc)
Switched first to shostock 2, and ended up knocking down to 50% under 8 hours with the same amount of usage, flashed on over to phonebricker with siyah and same thing. Anyone else having similar drainage?

Currently running SHO2 V3. Battery lifes been great for me.
No more wakelocks. I can go to bed at 100% and wake up 8-10hrs later and be at 97%
I'm not getting any Wakelocks either. Battery's amazing when the phones locked. But it's the drain when the screens on that baffles me

Someone reported having superior battery life with ICS on Shostock, Bricker or AOKP.
I, in the other hand, never have a great life on it. Considering light usage, getting 20 hrs max (where I used to get close to 48 hrs) including roughly 2 hrs screen on and 2 hrs talk time. Not great at all, but not bad, I can survive.

Exactly! I know others who all have these amazing battery stats yet for some reason I just don't. Couldn't figure it out for the life of me when I haven't been doing anything different. Was beginning to think maybe I'm just enjoying ICS a little too much and need to put the phone down..

Probably has a lot to do with the oled screen. It has to suck more juice than the standard lcd

I was getting 30+ hours a charge easily on GB if I sidestepped a few battery killers. I get nowhere near that on any of the ICS roms but it's worth every juice sucking second. I love it.

So an i777 running Gingerbread has an LDC screen and an i777 running ICS has an OLED screen?
What you're saying is true, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread.

I use phone bricker 2.7 as a daily driver and the battery life is pretty decent. The MIUI port seems to do even better (I uninstalled it because somehow it was unpredictably laggy). Might as well try those too.
I started running AOKP about a week ago and my battery life improved quite a bit over the rooted stock rom. But I never have had very good battery life out of the stock rom anyways, except for maybe day or two after a factory reset, I would have OK run times until that dreaded wakelock kept sneaking back in the picture. AOKP has been much more consistent for me and I have easily been lasting 16-18 hrs with light/medium use and atleast 40% remaining. I'm running Siyah kernel. I haven't tried any other roms.
I think I'm gonna be going back to gingerbread for about a solid week to see if it really is ICS. Used to get amazing life on GB, then switched to ICS and my battery went to hell.so I got an extended battery and all that did was basically give me close to what I got on gingerbread, so the inconsistencies are starting to bother me a bit. Maybe I'll return to ics sometime in the future to see if anything changes. It's been fun though, and there's a lot of things that I'm going to miss....Oh well

I thought Gingerbread had much better battery life so i switched to shostock 1. However, the battery life there was about the same as shostock 2. My recommendation is to severely underclock it (200 mhz) when the screen is locked. i can go for hours and only use 1 or 2 percent and the battery will be left for you when the screen is on which is when you need it. AOKP + Fluxi= awesome

[Q] Reasonable expectation of battery life?

I have been struggling with trying to figure out if the battery life I am seeing is what my Atrix is really capable of. I am occasionally a heavy user, but on weekends I am a very light user. I'll start at 8am with 100% and be almost dead at 6-8pm. I have searched around and seen other Atrix users with 24 hours of battery life and even if I tried my hardest to not use my phone I wouldn't get those kind of numbers. I feel fairly confident in saying i scoured search results and tried everything i could find to extend battery life.
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there something I can do to help?
I know it's been asked before, but I am hoping to get some current answers for this question: what kind of battery life numbers are you getting on your Atrix? Which rom are you using?
Atrix 4G running CM7 RC3. If the answer is "keep it charged as often as possible", it is what it is. It would be great to find an answer to why battery life is so much shorter than others though! Many thanks in advance.
Just noticed CM7.2 stable was released, upgrading to that now to see if battery life improves. Might try a full wipe to see if battery life is better without email, syncs, etc. etc. if the upgrade doesn't help.
i would recommend getting cpu spy and also download and install as a zip 'blue sleep fix' (blue sleep zip can be found in the CM7 thread). This has greatly improved my battery life.

Also, use ROM Manager or equivalent to stop all non essential apps from starting on boot.

You should turn wifi off when not in use, that will save battery life.
Badass battery will let you know how you spend your battery by % and let you know which app takes the most battery. (Lets you get a really readable easily understandable battery read out.)
I can help you get even better battery if you use this app and give me some numbers (it has a share via gmail/etc)

turning off wifi is not going to help him that much. I leave my wifi on all the time no problems, make 2 days light usage no problem.
More likely he's got some apps running around in the background. I suggest he pick through what he's got installed and start turning off the things that like to sync all the time in the background.
I think step number 1 would be to install a non-stock ROM and startover fresh.
Blur-based ROMs (Nottachtrix was really good) then the faux123 kernel then slowly start installing the apps he likes to use and monitor battery life. It might take a month but he's definitely got an offender here or there causing these problems.
also install Juice Defender. My mom's Galaxy S2 was having tons of problems with battery life even though she wasn't using it at all, 60% battery life at 3pm without using it at all, installed that and immediately helped her a lot, like 80% by 3pm WITH use.
Also, clear your dalvik cache. After installing lots of stuff and not using it, it just fills up with sometimes poorly written code. Clearing it always makes phone faster in my experience.

I think this is what I will do today! I'll do a nandroid backup, and try Nottachtrix with no extra stuff installed or setup. I will report back! I appreciate all the help to get my phone performing where it should be.
Just wanted to report in. I tried a clean ROM as stated in my previous post with no luck. I just couldn't get past the battery life I was getting with cyanogenmod WITH all of the apps and syncs enabled. Should I try another ROM maybe?
Maybe your battery is just a bit old? After ~2 years, you can expect that battery life drops dramatically. if you are a heavy user this might happen earlier. Maybe check with the battery of a friend of yours whether it's a software or a hardware issue
Nvmd
You could be right, the battery might be dying.
I was on vacation the past few days so I got the opportunity to not use my phone most of the day (job requires me to use the phone a lot). The battery lasted about 12 hours and looked like it had about 4 hours left. So maybe I am expecting too much, but I'm not trolling...no.
If you aren't going to be helpful, go somewhere else. You could have said "Your phone screen was on for probably longer periods than the average user and that's why you can't hit longer hours". Based on your previous comments, I shouldn't expect much from you though.
Many thanks to all who are helping me. You're all awesome.

I also have 11-12 hours with 1 charge. And it is not enough for me. I use only Whatsapp ( a lot usage ), a little bit browsing, 20-30 minutes phone calls. These are all. And 11-12 hours is sooo bad for them i guess.
I have an "suspend linux process" drainage issue. Maybe because of it, I'm getting this result.
How can I extend my battery life. PLEASE Help!

Only reaching 13h on my battery. Why?

So i bought me the SIII about two weeks ago and was excited to use the 2200mah battery. The first day i hit about 18 hours.
Since then i have:
Rooted
Installed CWM
and flashed this Kernel:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741684
Could running this ROM be the reason why i am having such horrible battery life?

I'm also aware of the Cell Standby issue which gives the wrong reading on the battery life status screen.
:silly:
Possibly. I have Stock unrooted for now as i don't have any reason to root and flash other ROMs yet. I consistently get 22 hours wih about the same screen On time you have. I have Auto Brightness, GPS On all the time, Sync On all the time and widgets running on every page.

never heard of that, but will definitely be doing that right now. The kernel i used overclocks the cpu so that might be a big reason
When i had my HTC Amaze 4G, i get around 12-14 hour battery life. I was even running Energy ROM at the time. I am thinking i might keep it 100% stock for now lol.

Okay, found a screenshot from the first battery cycle. I had Power Save On at the time. I had since been running without it on and of course using the phone more.

never heard of that, but will definitely be doing that right now. The kernel i used overclocks the cpu so that might be a big reason

What are you OC to?
I tried OC a couple times and my battery would get hot. I quit when I read that some good Dev's say not to do it.
oc will definitely drain your battery faster.

Im running blazers Rom on the Sprint variant of the S3. On my evo 4g lte i had b4 switching to the s3 i would get like 40-50 hours with light/medium usage. With the same amount of usage im getting half of that with the s3. Much less then half if i actually do something with my s3. No widgets- no mobile data turned on- no syncing-no gps. Only wifi is turned on while Im home. 24 hours without a charge seems to be the cap for these phones. and thats with very minimal usage.

Man just from reading a lot I would trying to not oc. You can actually read where a lot of the experienced phone guys stay away from OC and a few actually uc to trade off for battery. More power needs more power

I think thats where im at right now, the phone is plenty fast as it is. So i just recently (about an hour ago) flashed back to the stock rom and am going to re-root and then run the clock down a little bit. OC is a little overrated for my usage!

Amaze Battery madness!?

WTH?!I am using speed rom 8, stock kernel, and my battery jumps around like crazy, has anyone else had had his issue? I think its probably a bad battery. Sometime it falls off insanely quick and at the low end it just dies around 20% or so then I reboot and it up around 30...any ideas?

Seeing similar results on my nightmare rom with sense 4.

This has happend to me even on stock. It's purely a battery issue, I went hiking and my phone got slightly moist, and the warranty sticker on the battery went red. See if you have one on your battery, I took mine to my carrier and told me its was covered under HTC's warranty.
This happened to me on stock but tmobile sent me a new phone for $5 and that resolved my issue.
When I was using speed ROM I noticed the same thing with my battery. I don't remember how it was with stock so I can't comment there.
But I have attached a picture of my ROM battery life now that I've switched to the fusion ROM and so far it seems better.
The only thing I can see from the graph you've posted is that your screen was on slightly longer than mine, but that's no reason for such terrible battery.
Might be the ROM and I hate to suggest it, but you might be better of if you try another ROM.

it's always best to calibrate battery anytime you install a rom or even updating a rom use a app like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en
& also you should use faux kernel the aroma version as you can tweak to save maga battery & with his new apk form the market this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS50ZWFta2FuZy5mYXV4Y2xvY2siXQ..
it makes battery life look like ur tripping on acid lmfao i get about 2 days even more if i turn off my wifi but i never do that lol
Hope this helps someone :highfive:

I believe I saw the last time I installed NRG that the installer deletes the battery stats...

Same here. I am running JB fusion with faux kernel and I am getting this
It's the stock batteries. Getting an aftermarket, such as Anker, solved the issue for me.

That's what was happening to me + random reboots the first time I flashed speed rom 8. Thought it was the rom so I switched to Infusion, but was getting the same thing and data stopped working.
Here what I did which seems to have resolved the issue for me:
1) Wiped cache, davik, & data wipe
2) Flashed the stock ICS RUU (I used the R2 variant)
3) Wiped cache, davik, & data wipe again
4) Flashed SpeedRom 8
5) Did NOT turn on Google Now - It's a battery hog but was not related to the stability issues.
Now i'm running SpeedRom 8 and it's perfectly stable with great battey life. Only thing I've noticed is I seem to not be able to run Wi-Fi and Blutooth at the same time. Wi-Fi will drop out within 10 - 20 minutes if I do. Can't get it back unless I turn of BT and turn off Wi-FI and turn it back on. Weird but livable.
