[Q] Beats by doctor Dre Solos - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi all. I just purchased a pair of solos. The remote doesnt work at all. Not even the volume buttons. Just wondering if there is anyway around this? A mod of some sort?
If not what headphones would you recommend for the Photon? I will be busing them for my work commute and when im at the gym, Also for jogging. I wouldnt mind trying ear buds but ive yet to find ones that stay in my ear even while walking. I have weird shaped ear holes. I am tired of buying $20.00 headphones that break every month. Im willing to spend a little more now as long as they will last.
I need the headphones to have volume control, great sound, and bass. Thanks!

in the airplane i use bose quitecomfort, working out i use motorola s10-hd, and on the motorcycle i use little skullcandy in the ear ones.
I havent found any all around anything, and different situations have different needs. hope my input helped some.

For cans, I suggest V-Moda Crossfades. I have never heard a better sounding headphone that didn't cost triple the price.
For earbuds, I suggest Klipsch S4As. Earbids specifically designed for Android and they have a range of 10-10k hz, so there should be plenty of bass for you.

I have Motorola Motrokr S305 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones and love them. They are light weight, work great with photon, and sound great after I installed Equalizer app and phone and set it to "Hip-Hop" and "Super Bass". $32.00 on Amazon for X-Mas!

Funny you mention "Beats". Those headphones were listed as one of th eTop-10 worst christmas gifts! Cheap, horrible, and way over priced.

If your buying expensive rapper headphones lol the Souls are the way to go way better than any beats headphones and look better

I have a pair of ibeats and I'm looking for a similar thing.
The V-Moda Crossfader are the best headphones I ever had but had to get rid of them :'(
Souls are good and beats are just waaaay too over priced. Try the 50 Cent Streetz lol

I love my zagg smart buds. they have foam similar to earplugs and fit to any ear if the silicone ones don't fit. and the audio quality is similar to Bose. if you look around you can usually find 50% off codes bringing them to 25 bucks.

How the hell would you jog or run with a pair of solos on lol? Try searching seinheiser in ear buds online I have a pair ($100) best headphones I've ever owned.

Decent BT headphones

Hey all, I'm looking for a decent pair of BT headphones. After doing some research it seems the old Moto S9s and s9-HDs are still the way to go for the cash they can be had? Can anyone enlighten me a little further on a decent pair or your own person experiences?
i bought the S10-HD and they where great, the sound was amazing for the price, but the battery life will always be the issue. if you wont use them for more than 6-8 hours get the S-10HD. make sure even if you get the S9 that its the HD option.. very important.
last thing of note, they are a little uncomfortable for some people, pull them apart to stretch them out

I have had the S-9 and S-10s, the s-9s are superior. Go for them, no doubt.
I'm still rockin' my Jabra BT 620S pair from like 2007-2008, works fine and battery life is not an issue. Quality is pretty good, but no noise cancellation and wish it was a bit louder. I'll upgrade when these die
I love these HP headphones: http://www.frys.com/product/5656521
When I bought them they were the only full sized over the ear headphones. They also have decent noise cancelling. I need some BASS and the smaller ones are no better then earbuds. If you look around you can probably find them cheaper then $70, I think mine were like $55.
Motorolla Rokr. Awesome sound excellent controls and battery life...plus they are frikin waterproof.

Motorola S9-HD is the best that I have found. You have to turn off SRS to get decent sound. I had Jaybird JF3 also. They had too much high frequency distortion. Cymbals sounded weird for example. The S9 has good battery life. ~$50 on Amazon. Poor outdoor reception, great indoors though.

Thank you everyone. I have thanked you all.
I ended up buying some new wired Sennheiser/Adidas CX680i earbuds yesterday to get great sound quality plus mic and button for making calls. They are impressive. I also used headset button controller app to reassign multiple clicks of the one working button to track skip, volume, etc.
Unfortunately most wired sets are designed to have the skip buttons work for only ipod. The Sennheiser therefore has one of three buttons that work, but the app is a good workaround.
I was happy to find out that DSP Manager app works without root on android 2.3. I setup the bluetooth and headset profiles to use bass boost and custom equalizer.

I use the jawbone era. Kind of expensive but the sound quality and noise cancellation is excellent. It has online updating and a2dp

I'm very interested in purchasing the MW600's, and was wondering if you can confirm that they work for controlling Google Music and/or BeyondPod. I assume from your post that's there is no problem with controlling phone calls. I've previously run into problems where I've purchased headphones that are not compatible with a particular phone, and I'd love to avoid that this time around Unfortunately neither Sony Ericsson nor HTC would confirm compatibility for me. Any insight anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
I've had the sony s9 and they were great, but awkward to fit in a pocket.
I just picked up the bluedio one from ebay for about $18 and it's wicked!!!
It's a tiny HSP/HFP mono earpiece with a magnetic connector to connect the second earbud (which seems to activate A2DP stereo bt profile. Things are TINY!!! but great audio quality and great battery life!
My ONLY complaint so far is that it's a non-standard barrel connector charger... wish it was micro usb.
Bluedio stereo... check it out on ebay!

Ear Buds

So I love my X2. I have the volume+ APK installed. I have yet to find a great pair of ear buds to use. I had a pair of titanium Skull Candys. I really like them but I would love something with a built in mic.
I am thinking about getting these tomorrow. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Monster...ones/1299999.p?id=1218248660227&skuId=1299999
I had the Beats but wasn't all that crazy about them. I love some added bass and clarity. But really...when I have ear buds in I want to hear NOTHING else!
Any help would be great. ty!
i bought the headphones above. they work great! The sound is amazing. I can hear things that I couldn't hear with other earbuds. The control talk will work once I change to an iphone in May. SO until then...they are just great ear bubs

You're different from us, aren't you?
The Bose earbuds, although pricey, are fantastic. They even have 3 different sizes (all included with the purchase) of the part that goes in your ears. Stop into a bose store some time and ask them if you can hook your phone up to it.
Bose, Monster, and Skull candy are all poor quality for the money you spend (you pay for the brand, not the item).
I recommend these Sennheisers (Link: amazon.com/Sennheiser-CX200-Twist-To-Fit-Earbuds/dp/B001EZUQ5E because I can hyperlink) that are $24 currently (I got mine at FYE for $20). They're by far one of the best earbuds I've heard in the sub-$40 category.
If you are willing to shell out 70 dollars, you could get the klipsch s4 ear buds. They sound great, and they have 4 different ear bud tips. After getting sand and water in them, they still work perfectly.

+1 on the Klipsch S4's. I have a set and for the money, they are great. I had a set of Bose OE2 headphones that were $100 more than the S4 earbuds. After I bought the earbuds, I never used the headphones again. The S4's were superior in sound quality by far. At least to my ears. I ended up giving the headphones to my daughter.

The best bet for under $100 is the Klipsch Pro Media earphones with Mic. They are compatible with any Android device and the same build as the Klipsch S4. You will generally pay the same amount.
For high end, the UE TripleFi 10vi is also android compatible. For these, just buy the Triple V 10 and then buy the extra cable that includes the Mic for $30. This will save $100 over the 10vi with the exact same results.
Make sure you avoid any earphones with a three switch mic. These are only compatible with IPhoney.

Didnt see a mic on those phones, otherwise I would buy them. But dont get the wrong idea, Sennhieser is and will forever be awesome. My best friend's dad is an audio engineer and studio owner and he has a contract with Sennhiser. They are sweet!
But anyways, I got my skullcandy buds (with microphone) on the cheap from amazon (~$13). Ive been quite pleased with them. Im a pretty quiet talker and people Im taking to almost never have a problem hearing over the mic. The phones themselves do a great job of filling out the whole spectrum of sound. One thing that Skullcandies give me is enormous ear bud sizes. When Im studying I want everyone to shut the **** up; I dont want to hear anything I dont want to hear. Turn on some nice jazz and bam; total isolation!!
Im throwing in my vote for some Sol Republic amps. They aren't ridiculously priced like beats, and out perform them on every level besides the bass. I don't know if you prefer hifi over over powering bass. If you liked the beats, id definitely try these out!
Can't Agree

Don't know about the Sennheisers, but Monster, Bose, and Skull Candy are all decent headphones. I find that the more expensive sonys are quite good especially the sony x
They are even $100 off right now
Klipsch is good. A nice $100 pair of Klipsch compatible with Android, so you can use the toggles on it.

Premium Headphones

What are some of the best premium headphones for the s2? I'm looking to spend between $100 - $200. I actually don't care if they are headphones or earbuds just as long as they fit in my pocket.

I am a headphone junky... (I couldn't possibly name all the ones I've ever had haha) but all I can say is beats are overpriced for what they are. If you want a truly good pair of headphones, get the ultrasone hfi 580's. The sound is absolutely amazing!! Has a lot of bass but is is very tight, and not muddy (like the beats are). Also there is no lack in the highs and midrange. Of all the headphones I have used, there is nothing that comes close in my opinion. They are about $140 so they also fall in your range.
I just got the Klipsch S4 Reference and they look and sound amazing!

150...FOR EAR BUDS??
I can't see that ever being worth it. I got some sennheiser cx200s (I think) recently on sale for 15 and they're awesome.
Klipsch, Sennheiser, Shure - all well respected high-end brands
Skullcandy is well below the price range you state but they offer good "bang for your buck", especially if you buy a set of Comply foam eartips for their earbuds.
Bose and Beats are massively overpriced crap.
Q&A or Accessories... Q&A or Accessories... where oh where do I throw this thread?
Moved to Accessories.
I am using Ultimate Ears 600 with my SGS 2, got for $78 from Amazon during Christmas sale. You can find it around $80 on amazon from time to time; however, you will probably want to buy 600vi, it has mic and controls and as much as I know everything but volume control works there. These are armature headphones and renewed superfi 5, so if you listen bass and not music, I would not recommend though. Klipsch S4 are also good from what I heard, but according to this and this theme, UI has better build quality quality, but S4i sounds better.... but I cannot personally comment how they differ. One thing, I am happy with UI 600.
Also just noticed that superfi 10 on sale again. This are one of the best IEM on the market. There is also vi version, with mic and so on, but I never saw it to go on sale, and you can buy replacement cable with mic for superfi 10 from logitech website anyway.
And yes, should agree about beats, as overpriced crap made and sold my same company who sells overpriced cables.
Don't get Beats.. They're overpriced useless things. Quality of sound and build is nothing compared to better companies such as Bose and Sennheiser. I'd suggest getting a pair of those. I have CX 400's and they're very good. Of course you can get higher-priced pairs. They really do make a difference in sound. For people who say otherwise, try a pair of 200 dollar headphones/earbuds and then try a pair of 10 dollar JVCs... It's night and day.

I would also like to add that it should have a mic as well.

To each his own i guess.. The earbuds sound awesome.. Deep bass and very very clear. For everyone that says they don't- well that's just stupid. They could be a little over priced but the sound quality is the best I've heard coming out of ANY earbuds. Even uses Monster cable.. (high-end stereo/speaker wire).. Depends who you are.. Someone like me is't gonna spend any less than $100 bucks anyway, regardless of what kind of headphones i get and when you get up in that price range (unless your spending $3/$400), your selection greatly gets narrowed down.. I landed on beats and they sound fweekin great..

Then you may not have heard Klipsch Image S4's. For $70-$80 they're pretty hard to beat in terms of earbuds. Tight bass, clear highs and mids, you'll be hearing sounds in your music you never
even knew was there
Regarding Monster cable use in Beats.......could be the reason why they are overpriced Monster cable being overpriced is another topic all together...lol
I have had a pair of Bose in ear headphones for a while and I love them. about 89$ so not to expensive. They don't have a mic but just for something that is nice in quality and isn't going to break the bank. Bose

Agreed 100 fold. Beats are for people who don't know anything about balanced sound and just want muddy thumping. They don't even have as much of a kick as they should for what they're going after.
I personally have Phonak Audeo PFEs. I bought them for use with an mp3 player and not a phone so I'm not sure how they'd work out there. I am one who with always tune my equalizer to get the sound I want, and the PFEs are great in that regard. They have a very balanced sound which lets me EQ to my hearts content without getting any sort of distortion. The low end is a bit lacking compared to other headphones I've had (like Hippo VBs and CX300s) but they have better mid and high range to compensate.

would beats headphones be amazing on this ?
i played with the one s yesterday..and the answer is yes
i wish HTC still included beats earbuds with HTC phones like they did with the rezound. bastards!
You killed, Kenny!
well...rezound didnt sell well at all, and wouldn't legitimate beats headphones included with the phone bump the price up at least $100 ?
I find my Klipsch Image S4's that I got with my OG EVO sound better than any beats ear buds I have tried. Longest I've ever owned a pair of headphones too.
Even thou its beats it really comes down to just the quality of ur headphones not the brand. Doesn't have to be beats to take advantage of it. I'd recommend a pair of sennheiser they r pretty amazing. Mine r about 5 years old and I've compard them to any beats or bose headphones I could try at best buy and neither come close in terms of sound quality.

No. Beats makes garbage headphones. Want to crank your bass and treble? Use an EQ. You want accurate sound reproduction? Buy Sennheiser or Klipsch or Polk or many other companies who are REAL audio engineers. Beats is for hipsters who don't know any better.

I own the ibeats (hehe) I like them from what I've heard they're the 3rd best 1st being these sexy over the head V-moda's second being a pair of Phillips over the head......I see a pattern here...over the head sound so much better lol
I listen to a full range of music for rock beats aren't the best sometimes(the ear budds at least). I use poweramp to configure my sound and such, but I did notice my pair of auvio buds and skull candy buds did not sound as good as my ibeats.
If your looking for some bargain basement good sounding earbuds try skull candy 50/50s i just got a pair and they sound just as good as the ibeats that came with the rezound, i paid 30 bucks shipped on ebay. They retail for closer to 60$ though. With beats your paying for the name. Dont be a label hoe lol

Beats are crap headphones as others have said. Stick with beans like Shure, Sennheiser, etc.
I am a music producer...beats just take the frequency and muddy it up. If that is your listening preference you can just as easily do that with EQ.

The same goes for me, except I own the s4i version. CNET has these headphones ranked as #1 in quality and pricing. Headphones vs Earbuds - looking for input

Seems like people are really recommending earbuds. Are there recommendations for full sized headphones under $50? I have Sony EX51 earbuds that are ok, but am looking for something that's a bit louder and produces a fuller sound. Seems like actual over the earphones would be best for that. Thoughts?
Any of the Sennheiser HD's will be good. I really like my HD-202 headphones. They are under $25 on Amazon. Also, the AKG K81 DJ headphones are awesome! They are $36 right now on Amazon (I paid $80). I think I like them a little better than the Sennheiser. With headphones you will get a little more bass than with earbuds. I personally like earbuds best since they are more portable, but I paid a little over $400 for the Shure Se-530s, and $250 for my Ultimate Ears 5 pros.
Also, from my experience, Bose, Beats and Skullcandy do not sound good. The Bose had good bass, and some highs, but missed the mids. I didn't like the sound from the Beats or Skullcandy at all.
There's a lot of good quality earbuds that will give you loud full sound. Klipsch S4s are good, and you can find some decent sennheiser and audio technica earbuds for under $50. Same for headphones.
As for headphones vs earbuds, I think it just depends on what you find more comfortable and portability.

I've always been an earbud guy because of the isolation so i can play at a lower volume. After i experienced my first pair of comply foam buds that came with my UE SuperFi Vi's i never went back to headphones when i'm outside, its just way too convenient. The only thing that bugs me is that if i'm having lunch and i try to listent to music, the movement of my jaw tends to make any earbud pop out no matter what, so I suppose headphones would get the thumbs up in that situation.
I use the aforementioned UE's normally, they sound pretty nice though they are not as heavy on the bass as the throwaway offerings from skullcandy that i have. I agree with caspertodd on his experience with beats and skullcandy, those earbuds are tuned to be bass heavy, and i personally perfer a neutral sound where i can EQ as i see fit.
I just picked up a set of ultimate ears metrofi200v on amazon for less then 40$ shipped. best in ear monitors I have ever heard for under 100$ . they have balanced mids,a little to much mid bass, good low bass and sweet highs. They sound awesome on the evo 4g lte. I will never buy monster, beats or Sony's again. They sound thick and airy opposed to my other headphones that sound muddy and tinny, these are perfect

I say go for Shure SE215. With the foam earbuds they isolate so much sound you don't need a lot of volume to hear your music.

it used to be that IEM's offered better sound for your dollar, but that gap has been thinning for the past couple of years.
granted they'll look goofy as hell on you, I much recommend the Monoprice 8323 if you're looking at budget full-size. They are literally kicker rebrands, and sound is in league with the ATH-M50's (which typically sell for ~$130).

I have these as well, and if you're on a budget, you can't really beat these. This is the first set of headphones I've ever bought. I've always used a $300 set of Shure earbuds before for my "good" set, and monoprice earbuds for my running around/working out set.
The Shure's sound isolation was just too good and I wasn't hearing my family calling for me when I needed to, so I decided to try out these Sennheiser's. They block ambient noise just enough without totally making me oblivious to the world
