[Q] Help a newbie out? :/ - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, i bought my sgs2 when i was in the states. My sgs2's version is 2.3.4, baseband i9100uhki1, and build number is gingerbread.uhki2..
I researched this and found out that UH is latin america.
My question is.. Can i change the firmware to like XX or to any other?? :/ if yes, how?
Heeeeelp.

Yes you can change. Just download whichever firmware you want for the international I9100 version and flash it with Odin and then do a hard reset after to completely change it over. All instructions and files that you need can be found in the dev forum.

Mr. Intratech, thank you for the quick reply. One more thing, do i need to root my phone to do this? Thanks in advance again.

No............................

Sorry. :/ ----> noob. Thanks a lot!

The periods were to make up the 10 characters that the forum requires for a post.

Lol! Um, if i hard reset my phone, will it lock it? Coz i bought this unlocked.

No, it won't.

Hi mr. Intratech. i just flashed my sgs2 and hard reset it just as you said. android version 2.3.6 baseband version i9100xxki4 kernel version [email protected] #2 build number gingerbread.xwkk2..
is this problem normal. i cant update using kies or the software update in my phone. please help. >.<

Whats your problem?

Hey search the forums lots of helpful threads to use odin to flash back a stock rom.
Heres a link to a specific stock rom, KI4 is in the list.

Saw this link earlier but the XXK14 download link is broken and I'm not knowledgable as to what other stock roms I can use here in the U.S. on AT&T (not sure that carrier is an issue other than the fact ATT is GSM / HSPA+ 21 Mbps). I'd really appreciate directions to an alternate XXK14 link and/or another compatible GB 2.3.5 stock firmware.

I've checked and can't see anything there. Thanks.
Alternatively use Check Fus, Google it.

Here is what you need to do
1. Get Check FUS downloader: LINK
2. Run FUS Select you Carrier / Region / Model and Download the Stock firmware for your phone.
3. Backup anything you need. You will need to wipe the data and the cache from Recovery mode before you flash the downloaded Fware..
4. Use ODIN and Flash the Downloaded Stock Firmware to your phone. You will loose the root access and you should have your stock back. Yeah before Install Wipe data and cache.
Lemme know if that works. If any doubt... just ask. Dont do anything wrong i'll try to help if i know the answer.

Did you try the "firmwares" link??
I have concerns about you flashing your phone if you can't navigate a website... No offense. I'm not trying to be insulting, but it's really easy to find.
Hi guys,
I'm a newbie so please bare with me. I have a Virgin Mobile UK Samsung Galaxy S2 which was on Gingerbread 2.3.4 or 5. I foolishly flashed it yesterday to yes you guessed it, ICS 4.0.3. Now as far as the phone itself is concerned, everything is working pefectly fine. No issues whatsoever except now I've noticed that my carrier has changed to T-Mobile UK even though the phone has full functionality on the Virgin network still? Also I get the "This device cannot download firmware" message now when connected to Kies.
Have I totally ruined my phones chances of downloading any official firmware in the furture now? And how can I correct the display of my carrier? I'm guessing I will have to find a stock ROM from somewhere and re-install. But doesn't that do something to a ROM install counter someware on the phone?
Thank you in advance.

You are fine. Nothing has gone wrong. Use the FUS and get the stock firmware for you phone. Flash it via ODIN... Read the above few posts.
For your Flash counter and Bin counter, You can reset it back to zero. Look for Triangle.apk . TO use that you need to have a rooted device. Super user permissions... so run Triangle while you have rooted device? If not then root it to reset the bin or flash counter ( If you want) or just flash back the stock Fware..
No you havent ruined you phone. You can download all official firmwares. Just wait for the offical ICS for your region.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. So just to clarify... If I re-install the stock firmware there will be no need to root the device and install the program that resets the counters?
Also, I've noticed that Virgin Mobile UK isn't listed under my territory?
Thanks again.

[Q] Baffled rooting the s2

Hi folks.
I've just received a nice new Galaxy S2 from Virgin in the UK. I did have an HTC Desire which was a dawdle to root and install roms on. When it comes to rooting the S2,, however, I'm baffled as to which firmware to use.
The android version is.... 4.0.3
Baseband version is... I9100XXLPS
Kernel version... 3.0.15-I900100XWLP7-CL340913
[email protected] #3
Build number... IML74K.XWLP7
Can anyone point me n the right direction for the firmware and a tutorial?
Thanks
It's just as easy on the s2!
follow these instructions !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
It's as easy as putting the phone into download mode and flashing the firmware using odin.
ok i've pinned it down to two firmwares to use from that thread
this one
CF-Root-SGS2_DX_XTC_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
and this one
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
going by the LP7 part that is in my phone but which one do i use?
I think the top one is dxlp7 and the bottom is xwlp7.. better go for the bottom one..

Please help a silver surfer :) SIM unlock problems

OK I have spent ages looking though all the threads on here and I am getting confused with all the numbers and codes
I have a Galaxy II GT-i9100
The the details are
Android Version 2.3.5
Base Version I9100NEK12
Kernal 2.6.35.7-I9100XWK18-CL616395 [email protected] #2
Build Number GINGERBREAD XWK18
I have tried to follow a few links of here to unlock it but the links they show to the 'ODIN' are dead.
All I want to do is Unlock it from the present provider (UK)3 to be able to use another SIM.
Later on I might want to change the ROM
I have Changemod 7 on my old Desire.
Could any kind soul please point me in the right directions for the files software I need.
I know this keeps getting asked over and over again but I do really find the jargon hard to follow.
Thanks again you are a great bunch.
Did you try this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092451

Think you really need to read the roll up sticky thread.
In the mean time.. Do this..
Turn of phone. Take out battery for a minute. Put battery back in..then..
Press volume up, main button at bottom of screen," menu button " and power button at same time and wait for phone to turn on.. You should then be in recovery.. Go down to data/factory reset and select it. Then reboot.

Meant Odin Still can't get the SIM lock to unlock
Hi!
All you need to do is flash a standard firmware with odin.
Here is the thread for Official firmwares, with instructions.
You want:
XWLPD
Firmware info
PDA:XWLPD
PHONE: XXLPW
Date: 08/05/2012
Android 4.0.3
This is ICS and is located 2nd from bottom of third post.
Does it matter it says its for the GT ?
Thanks
any clue on SIMunlocking not working ? DO I need a SIM card in the phone ?
and do I need the Kernal and do I update it after the firmware the same way with Orion ?
Thanks

According to your OP, you have the GT-I9100. If correct then that is the firmware required for an upgrade to ICS. You will not have any sim lock after this and just leave sim in if you like.

Let the phone boot, shut it down. Then as before, flash
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_NEE_LPD-v5.5-CWM5.zip from (unzip and extract tar to flash) here
Please be aware that this is the Official Samsung firmware and you will have Samsung's interpretation ei similar looks to GB.

[Q] Update to Jellybean

Hello,
I want this to be a personal question about how to update my phone to Jellybean 4.1
First of all, as u can all see in the screenshot, I don't have software update in my phone,it's a branded Orange phone.
Over Kies my phone is not connecting to it. I have done a ton of solutions, no succes.
So I came here to ask you how can I update my Samsung Galaxy S3 to Jellybean with Odin starting from my screenshot, I mean from baseband i9300bvle4 w/o damaging my phone.
Please, give me some steps like you make for newbies.
Best Regards,
Go grab the latest stock JB from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610. Then use odin to flash, follow one of the many, many guides on using odin. Once youve downloaded the FW its a 10 min job.

Region doesn't matter, only if you want ota updates you need a matching region and csc if I am not wrong. But anyway you can flash any new version via Odin as well, hence I wouldn't bother with it.

First of all. For someone who is looking for help your tone is offensive and discouraging to those that might be able to help. If the question is indeed so simple as you ask then why are you asking the question in the first place.
Second of all, the reason people ask you to look at sammobile is because you can select the region that you are in and/or bought the handset from and would be able to check for yourself if you have indeed downloaded the correct firmware for Pakistan.
Sammobile is down at the minute and will be back up at any minute. They Tweeted this 20minutes ago.

I apologise if i have misunderstood what you have wrote but it is just how what you have wrote comes across.
Anyway, was your phone branded or unbranded when you bought it?
I have just had a think aswell. If you want to revert to complete stock unrooted, you could do it using kies firmware/update utility under tools. If you type the model as GT-I9300 and enter your device serial number (under battery, not imei) and connect your phone in download mode, kies will flash the correct firmware that that device shipped with.
I would help with the correct version but sammobile is still down and that is the site to help pinpoint the correct version details which you are asking for.

if you are having kies issues, try uninstalling, restart you computer, and then reinstall by right clicking and selecting "run as administrator" it usaully does the trick for me.

There is no other way around? I have issues with my PC too, I dont have spare "Windows CD" So i am afraid if something happens, I will lose all my data. I know about Backup and stuff, But it will probably take alot more time.

Here is the firmware information for a stock unbranded Pakistan GT-I9300. This is what would have been shipped on the device when it was manufactured.
Product Code: GT-I9300MBDPAK
Version: Android 4.0.4
HIDSWVER: I9300XXALE9/I9300OJVALE9/I9300XXLE8/I9300XXALE9
I can not find the latest update for your region atm. But this firmware would be the right one for your region.
It is ICS though. you could install this and then OTA update your device.

In the link I've posted if you search you wok find a link to Pakistan firmware. If your device is a Pakistan unbranded Rom then that file will restore a complete stock system.
Before you flash, turn off your phone and hold volume dwn, home and power. Then press the up arrow once in download mode. Look at the Flash count abs make sure it's 0 or reads stock or official next to the status. If it doesn't reboot your phone and use triangle away which is in the forum and remove the Flash count. Then Flash your rom via odin.
