Recently more and more Android developer start to developping and propose to upgrade their OS from old Froyo (Android 2.2/2.3 ) to Android 4.0 (ICS)system, even though low level 600MHz CPU/256Mb RAM Android phone
(ex. Huawei U8150 ) :
Refer to beneath thread of their activities:
1. Port ICS transition animations on EVERY ROM & EVERY PHONE Thread
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342117 )
2. [Huawei U8150] Ice Cream Sandwich AOSP Alpha 3 WIFI+SD WORKS
: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366404
I hope someone of our Archos developer also can consider to develop Android 4.0 (ICS)system for Gen 8 ASAP
well the answer is easy:
and if u would have spend some time in this forum - reading - u would have it already...
Atm we got 3 main developers for our archos devices: sauron/bubu/divx
Since sauron will stick to his UD for a while as it seems hes out of the race atm
The other 2 are wokring on CM7 (-> Ginger) atm.
Even they are doing a great job we still dont have a fully bug free and installable CM7 yet...
CM9 (-> ICS) is in a very early development stage (as u already can see in any other android forum here - mostly alpha builds with barely functionality) so it's kinda meanless to switch over to it atm - since we dont have enough developers for it.
Once CM7 is fully working I think bubu/divx will head on to CM9 ofc (if they still own an archos then )
Even I know u just had good intensions - I think those [Request] threads are meanless most time - as they won't "help" anyone sadly.
Imho: if u want to contribute and take the development a step further or want to help them - join the Cyanogen Bull RC development discussions and help out with bug-reports or anything else u can do...

Hello FrEcP:
Thanks for your update informations.
Sorry!I do not know how to develope Linux or Android OS and just a Android system user
However I always keep watch the new OS improvement and contribute my testing result to developer all the time and wish Archos Gen8 could be better
performace than before!!
ICS Port to our gn8 started!
letama, made an alpha version of an ICS Port for our devices
Look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404492
Currently the only thing that seems to run is the touchscreen (Actually the launcher is pretty smooth)! And it's booting of course
nice to see progresses in ics development for ics!!
Related
So it's officially out.
Would it be too optimistic to wait to see a port of ics for archos gen 8? Apparently cyanogen team is waiting to get their hands on the source code and presumably they will build new cyanogenmod version very soon after that. Well, sooner or later but I'm sure they will make it.
Is it possible that the system requirements would be too rough for archos gen8? Now that we already have some kind of cyanogen ported would it be easier to make it again with cyanogenmod based on ics?
Not sure if my questions make any sense because I'm not very familiar with developing stuff. I just like to follow instructions and hack everything I own!
I think we will have ICS on our Gen8 devices, but i will be a experimental port, just like the cyanogen port (2.3.3) now...
I hope this community wont die!
Greets,
Lenn
Greetings Everyone;
I've been searching everywhere for the so much wanted ROM "Ice Cream Sandwich" for Acer Liquid Mini E310 (unfortunly without luck so far).
To all of you that own this device; I'm adding some info, so you can save some time searching for it...
As said somewhere in the web; "the Ice Cream Sandwich will be availiable for every android device; and will probably be; the main Android OS".
The only questions are: Will it be released for ACER devices? Will it be compatible for all ACER smartphones?
Well that is a question to be answered...
I searched Google and ACER website; and so far seems like there are only availiable the Froyo 2.2 and Gingerbread 2.3.
I've sent an e-mail to ACER Suport; asking if "ICS" ("Ice Cream Sandwich") will be released and if it is compatible with this device.
(I'm still waiting for the answer; i will update this thread when i get some news)
Either ways I'm pretty sure that it is compatible; but by some reason that is unknown to me; there are no current running Projects (From ACER or Developers) going on.
If anyone's cooking this ROM; i guess we (Acer Liquid Mini E310 Owners) would be glad to hear about it; and test it.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings everyone;
As promised i'm giving you the info about the ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) ROM; received from ACER Support.
Unfortunly i don't have good news.
Happens that ACER doesn't make the ROM's.
As told by ACER (Translated from Portuguese to English):
"Dear costumer;
We don't have information about that ROM.
Unfortunly we don't test the ROM's; neither verify them (even the ROM/Program Settings); due to it's made from a third party.
We're sorry that we can't give you a feedback."
After searching (Google) i found out that it's not the ACER (or any other Trademark) that develops the ROM; but the 84 consortium firms "Open Handset Alliance (OHA)".
As explained in WikiPedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Handset_Alliance#cite_note-0
The thing is i don't know who is exaclty the ROM Maker for this device.
All i know is that this ROM was originally made for "bigger" Android devices (Like Samsung Galaxy Tab).
Although the info i've got from every here and there on the internet it that; this ROM will be availiable for almost every android device.
Also; (as you can search as well) this ROM is availiable for some Smartphones... But not yet (i wonder why) for this equipment.
According to AndroidMemo; this device is probably ICS Capable; so i guess we have to wait for it.

P.S - Admins; i just found that i misplaced this thread. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience.
As many of you (owners of a Acer C4 Liquid Mini E310), i'm as well quite disapointed for not having news about the ICS release.
As well as not seeing people helping or giving tips; etc for this device.
Specially here on XDA. (Quite annoying that this device doesn't even appear on the list)
Either ways i'm not complaining or something. I Love XDA Developers. I've learned a lot and will always be faithfull.
Although; (Hope XDA doesn't get mad at me for posting this... ), i found a custom ROM under developing, from MoDaCo.
Remember: before you test it or use it; remember that if you don't have any knowledge in switching ROM's, Testing them; etc... You may get your device bricked.
So proceed on your own will.
For now i'll read the entire thread and see how compatible and usable (for daily use) it is. And only then i'll test it.
Here's the link for the thread and ROM:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/350156-rom-devs-cm9-ice-cream-sandwich-40-to-our-liquid/page__st__300
By the way; if anyone is a developer. I believe they could use some help.
Best Regards;
Sorry, I didn't understand exactly.
An ICS rom couldn't exist ?
Thanks for your work
Hey, I m' one of the owner of Acer e310 ..
Firstly I upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3 simply as every one did ..
But M' completely dissatisfied with 2.3 version with its ugly look
since our Mob supports 512 Ram guess we may install ICS ..
Please update with some info .. I am waiting seriously here ..

The new link is : http://android.modaco.com/topic/352180-cm9-cyanogenmod-9-for-liquida1liquide/
But it's only for Liquid / Liquid E...
The Liquid E has 512 Mo RAM, maybe someone who doesn't like his Liquid Mini could try to flash it on his phone ?
Forget about ICS.
Unless you are willing to do it your own.
Greetings;
Try this Rom:
Instructions bellow:
- Enter ClockWorkMod Recovery
(or flash a version for your device if you dont have it)
- Download Sherpya Rom and copy the *.zip file to your SDCard.
- Reboot your device under CWM
- Select:
- Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Erase Cache (on the 1st menu)
- Advanced > Mounts and Storage > Format "Boot"; "Cache" and "System".
- Go back to the 1st Menu
- Install *.zip from SDCard
- Select the Sherpya Rom zip file.
- Let it complete.
- Done.
Now you have the best rom ever for that device.
With:
- Custom kernel (ext4 supported)
- Everything Working.
- Already Rooted
Please press thanks if it helped you. This will keep me motivated to help and continue to give support for Acer Liquid Mini e310.

About unlocking there is a specific thread opened , any clue please share:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414377#
First, if this thread should be in general can someone move it pls.
Now to my question. I know that for example the samsung galaxy s has a similar hw as our phones and can have the new kernel, but i never saw a kernel for our phones higher than 2.6. Does anybody know if we can or cant(and why) use the new version cause it has a better security system
Some developers are working on a 3.0 kernel and there are already some threads about that
Sent from my Nexus 7 running Android 4.2.1
Porting kernel is not a simple task. Fxp team whom currently working on the project to bring kernel 3.x to xperia 2011 gen said it would take atleast six months, or would take forever ie it would never come to our phone.
is it really necessary?
Do we really need kernel 3.0 on our devices?
because I have read here and they say its almost same as old kernel "OR SAME AS OLD KERNEL "
http://www.itworld.com/software/169503/new-linux-30-kernel-same-old-kernel
Dear Gods and Mortals,
I've just joined XDA a few minutes ago, and am about to post for the very first time.. Please be gentle to a certified n00b..
Anyway, I've learned a lot reading articles here in XDA, and I think it's time I give back, and hope my 3 cents worth would be of any help..
I'm using an Atrix MB861, and just like you guys, am frustrated with Motorola for not sharing ice cream with us..
I have also read that the ICS ROMs of Samsung Galaxy R i9103 and LG Optimus 2x are not useful in the effort of improving ICS and JB efforts for the Atrix.
After sifting through some Chinese websites, I've come across ZTE U970 (Mimosa, Grand), which may have similar specs with the Atrix. Maybe some dev can try disassembling it for some usable kernels or whatchoo-choos.
They have posted on their website a JB/ICS ROM update. (Sorry, as a n00b cannot post links)
So, is it of any use? I really someone checks it out whether it's legit.
Thank you for your time and for bearing with a n00b post.:silly:
doqmyk
PS: presently using epinter's (THANK YOU:good CM10.1.. fast, stable, very usable.. just no mic and poor cam.
PS2: Also, can anyone tell me how to click the so-called "ThankYou" button? I use IE10 and FF Beta, but I see no "Thank You button"..
This has already been discussed, the only kernel that passed the tests to run on the Atrix was the kernel of the Galaxy R that is currently being ported by our devs.
Hi,
I have localy almost all tegra2 devices kernels. Also ZTE Grand's one. I'm using them as reference. ZTE uses same method of lcd panel init, LG has similar method of tegrapart use (mmc partition offset), Xooms has similar (older) PMU. Each one is helpful, yet none is compatible enough to be used on it's own. Since getting JTAG uart we can work on any kernel, so galaxy/xoom only kernel is no longer valid (just for clarification).
If you check the website download, they have the NEW TEST ROM 4.1 JB version. As I reviewed the old XDA posts, it only points to the old 4.0 stock ROM with 2.6 kernel, NOT the new Test ROM.
Maybe we can download the NEW 4.1 ROM and see if we can analyze it for stuff we can use or modify, as Atrix and U970 comes from the same AP20/AP25 Tegra2 Family. Who knows, they might have a working 3.x kernel on their NEW test ROM..
Still hoping ang believing...
Reading the much older posts (Aug 2012), many (readers, not the Devs) seem to shoot down the idea of using the built-in drivers in these ROMS without actually trying to crack or use it first.. Better try NOW, as Moto ICS upgrade is a dream. Now, because it's a matter of principle. Now, because the longer the time, the more new powerful cheaper phones arrive to distract us away from our principles..:crying:
Anyway, enough of the yada-yada. If anyone is interested in the latest Jelly Bean ROM of U970 (Nov 29 2012), and the latest updated ICS ROM of Hisense T96 (Sept 2012), here they are:

Hi guys,
That's my first tread on xda.
The question is "Would someone do Android L potring??" Obviusly on our GT-i9300.
I'm not telling that i want a porting now but i'm afraid that this device will die after the 5.0 update.
So you good developers would you do the android 5.0 porting For us?
Bye.
+1
Inviato dal mio GT-I9300
Android L is still not yet fully developed by Google and thus it is a developer preview and is not suitable to be a daily driver rom. Maybe try asking after Google release Android L as an official update.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Free mobile app
well ports are already happening for some devices(n7 2k12 for instance)
but i doubt it will for s3, in fact i doubt we will even receive L (unofficialy)
it tooks months to get fully hw support in Kk thanks to closed source drivers
it took almost a year to fully fix the áudio driver (this one we already have a open source version of it)
and so on. also we are running 4.1+ on a "hacky" way (4.1 was meant for 3.1+ kernel, we have 3.0.101)
yet still, because of drivers we can´t achieve full speed(animations are quite bad) on custom roms, and thats with roms with same version as of Samsung).
but if we get, will be in october when the full release comes
The Android L preview image is not complete and is intended for devs for Nexus devices. A lot of things are missing.
We will have to wait till later this year for a port (if someone does it).
