I just installed Amazing Quicksense ROM 1.5.1. I was trying to use wifi hotspot (which I understand would be free with this ROM), and my computer was not picking up the phone at all with no signal. I then switched the security to none, and I was able to get a signal and pull up the t-mobile upsell page with no internet.
So, I guess my question is, how do I get free wifi hotspot with Quicksense 1.5.1, and is the only way to connect, is with security set to none? I know of the changing APN method, but I wanted to know if there is something I can do to get it to work with Quicksense 1.5.1. Plus having the security set to none is a bit worrisome. Thanks
I don't have the phone yet but I foud this.

Right now I'm on BAMF Sense 3.0 Gingerbread using MR2 radio (MR1 had no service) and every time I hook up USB and hit "Share internet with PC", I drop 3G and 4G and don't even get 1x. It's irritating.
And when I use Wifi Hotspot built in application, I get very very shaky consistency. If the screen turns off, 4G drops. After 10-15 seconds, 4G resets.
One of the primary reasons I traded my iPhone for a Thunderbolt was to bypass the need for a cable modem but I'm having no such luck.
Can anyone recommend a rom that has 100% stability with tethering? I'd prefer Wifi tethering but I'll settle for USB tethering as long as it works as well as it did on any other HTC Android phone I've used.
And yes, I've tried Barnacle and no, I do not like it.
Try Wifi Tether.

I love it and it works fantastic for me.
I just found Wireless Tether and I'm giving it a shot. Aside from tethering issues, BAMF 3.0 is a great rom so I'd hate to move away from it.
I'm surprised Verizon found a way to block Wireless Tether from Market. They sure are getting ahead in their game! So far I haven't had any drops! *knocks wood*
It's funny that some rooted app on market is better at tethering than Verizon's own hotspot feature. You'd think if they want people to pay for it, the least they can do is make their app the best for it.
I always find apps created by independent programmers seem to be the best anyway. The features of Wifi-Tether are awesome too, you can change the SSID, enable encryption, and manually enable or disable devices from connecting to your hotspot. Cant beat all that for functionality.
i use SYNERGY 3.0 latest nighty with the wireless tether app and dont' have your issues. as far as i know, this is the only GB rom that doesn't have this problem. all froyo roms worked perfectly for me. with the stock kernel it came with and mr2 radio.
WiFi Tether for the win. I used it just yesterday to DL a 500mb disc img.
CM7's USB Tethering works great for me.

+1 to that. Running BAMF 3.0 RC4 MR2.5. Using wifi tether. works great. If you cant find the wifi tether on the market, just put your phone in airplane mode and use wifi to connect then go back to market and search wifi tether for root.
I am using this version of WiFi Tether ... http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta1.apk&can=2&q=
I have found in order to get a stable connection, if you go into Settings and scroll down under the LAN option ... there will be a checkbox for Routing fix. Once I turned that on, my connection has be very stable.
Hope this works for you.
Has anyone figured out a way to get the pre installed hotspot working? i have tried similar guides from the newer droids and older gingerbread ''hacks'' attempts have been disappointing the ip address response error comes up no matter what i try wifi tether beta and the one from the market will not show up for my xoom which makes them useless at the moment. have tried radiocomm ''hacks'' for data workarounds no luck either ugh. thanks
any luck with that?

It somehow forces the sprint hotspot to activate, which allows for infrastructure mode. Ignore any errors at start up.
While this won't make the stock app work, you can root your phone and use the Open Garden Wifi tethering app which works with 3G, 4G and is much more customizable.
First off i apologize if this is in the wrong section, so please move if needed mods. Well i have a problem connecting to wifi. Not just any old wifi, particularly my school wifi. I have come to figure out that for the life of me i cannot connect to my schools wifi whenever i run any sense based rom on my 3vo. I also couldn't connect to my schools wifi with my hero with any sense based rom as well. It seems like the problem is sense then because i have no problem connecting when i run aosp or cyanogen. When i connect with an aosp rom all i have to do is input the username/identity and password, 3 seconds later im connected. With any sense based roms i get it detects the signal but automatically prompts me for the password, no other option. Networking is not my forte but if i recall the security that my school uses is wpa enterprise peap or something along those lines. Now i know some of you may say just run an aosp rom but sometimes i need full functionality and i cant swap on the fly (hboot 1.5 htc unlock method)Any help would be greatly appreciated because i hate not having any network access at school. Thanks in advance
PS. ive tried adding manually but still no help, ive also tried that wifi configurator app to see if it could help but alas... Zilch!
first of all let me ask you if your friends have htc phones and if any of them runs in the same problem if using a sense rom. it's pretty strange. try wifi manager from market maybe u get lucky https://market.android.com/details?...51bGwsMSwxLDEsIm9yZy5rbWFuLldpZmlNYW5hZ2VyIl0.
Yeah a few friends of mine have HTC phones none of us can connect, they all run stock roms too, no root for them. We all get the same prompt for password without being able to enter username and password. I'll try out this manager though and see how what happens
Thanks
I am on the nocturnal rom and I have major wifi and connection issues. im rooted s still on with hboot1.50 but I have flashed a new rom a new kernel and also wifi manager nothing works
I have a droidX with liquid ICS 1.62,
android version 4.0.4,
and kernel version 2.6.32.9-g34b306d
i have tried every possible method i have found to get wifi tethering working, its to give my nexus 7 wifi on the train
I'm able to tether with bluetooth, but because there's no wifi connection various apps dont "see" the internet and ignore it.
so i need wifi tethering
BUT IT WONT FREAKIN WORK. :crying::crying:
more specifically, no matter what i try, nothing can see the wifi tethering signal of my phone, its as if nothing is there at all.
it'd tried; Foxfi, PDAnet, wifi tether for root users, barnacle tether...
i'm completely at witts end here, ask me any question you need and i'll answer in as much detail as needed
anyone? at all?
if you need any more information, i can provide it
guess not
i'll probably have to drop back down to CM7, it looks like every single ics or jb rom for the droidx has this dumb issue. thanks verizon
wait, nevermind, got it working again somehow
after flashing back to stock liquidICS 1.62 i found it working again
i tried to underclock the phone so i could leave it in my pocket running wifi all day, but apparently under OR overclocking the phone AT ALL breaks tethering, dont ask me how or why.
if you change the clock speed at all, you need to reboot before using tether
Hey I just reverted back to stock from Cherish OS, kept having way too many issues with the ROM rebooting or just freezing. I managed to get hotspot working on Cherish by editing the build prop to include:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
then pushing adb shell: settings put global tether_dun_required 0
Was working fine minus the crashes.
Now going back to stock I havnt had any unexpected crashes but I cannot seem to get the tethering to work anymore using magiskhide prop config. Does anyone know what else needs to be done to get wifi tethering working again? It looks like the DUN APN setting on my custom APN does not stick around after saving it, I dont know if it was enabled on Cherish OS somehow or what the difference between the two set ups would realistically be.
Edit:
Solution Provided by lentm:
"If you're rooted, try using VPN Hotspot: https://github.com/Mygod/VPNHotspot/releases"
Just enabled wlan0.
Still looking for a solution, If someone can point me to where I might need to start to resolve this I would appreciate it.
Ex; does it need a custom keneral? or Radio?
What is the limiting factor, that doesnt allow the connected device to get internet?
If you're rooted, try using VPN Hotspot: https://github.com/Mygod/VPNHotspot/releases
I can confirm the linked app works and replicates the built in Wifi Hotspot feature. I have it running on a T Mobile, bootloader unlocked, rooted, stock firmware, and on Android 11. Worked with my desktop, other phone, and Smart TV. I do not have it as a part of my plan. No VPN, port, or other nonsense to setup on the client to get it working. Just put in the WiFi spot password and off you go!.
Thanks for the link! I was never able to find a way to get the built in one working with out an app of some kind. I have no idea what would be needed to patch the factory hotspot to get it working without an app.

Great. BTW, I think the reason why it's recommended to use with the VPN (such as AdGuard) is to hide the tether usage.
I was a bit skeptical, but after I enabled the wlan0 toggle it worked! thank you soo much I have been struggling with this for a while.

Something to note here I wasn't using Adguard and had no issues with the hotspot vpn app. I wasn't using the "Temporary Hotspot" toggle in the app either. Using the wlan0 option gave me Internet on any device I tried while on T Mobile service / Towers. I went out of town and I'm now roaming on US Cellular indicated on my notification bar. This hotspot method stopped working for me. I could connect to the hotspot but no internet. After some research I found using Adguard does resolves this as you mentioned. In the VPN hotspot app you must choose "tun0" as the upstream interface.
