Hi Guys,
I'm sorry for the perhaps inane question, but I can't seem to get this to work:
I need to flash back to a branded t-mobile UK rom, as my phone has stopped recognising the sim card (sim works in other devices, working sims don't work in the s2) and I need to send it back to t-mobile for a warranty repair...
I never went too far into customization, and always stayed with official roms - just the more updated ones.
Anyway, now I try to flash back using these roms (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928), and it won't work... Hangs right at the last minute of the download:

Incidentally, I have tried and tried this, and searched for anyone solving the same problem (eg. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369452), but to no avail.
And I'm still trying, somewhat desparately! I can flash some roms to get the phone booting - but none recognise the sim card (which makes me think it's a hardware problem, not software).
Again, your help would be hugely appreciated!

If the ROM you're using is a Stock ROM despite being unbranded, there shouldn't be any problem. I recently send my HTC Desire with a Stock ROM to Vodafone support and didn't said nothing about it not being a Vodafone ROM.
As for the ROMs, try to flash the same PDA version as the ROM installed to see if it works without problem.
It does sound like a hardware problem.
I'd flash T-Mobile UK BOKG2 Firmware via Odin, reset the counter with a USB jig and send it back to T-Mobile.

Thanks AzureusPT: I'd definitely argue that there shouldn't be a problem with there being a Stock rom on there.
I'm not 100% sure what you mean by flashing the "same PDA version as the Rom installed"; could you elaborate? The last ROM I managed to get working was XWKI4 - and that was wicked (save for the lack of sim!).
Spannaa: I can't get any of those firmwares (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928) working via Odin... Am I being a complete noob?
When I flash these roms, the phone reboots, then gets stuck at the boot animation. I did notice that when it's installing it says something about being unable to write to 'system/csc/TMU' or something similar; could that have something to do with it? If so, is there anything I should be doing to make that work?!
Not sure what you're doing wrong but, after rooting my sgs2 using CF-Root, I checked I could get back to stock by flashing the above firmware via Odin (following the instructions here).
OK. I'll take you through my process, and see what you think!
I download the pair of files (firmware and kernel).
I extract these zips into a directory.
I open ODIN3 v1.85.
I put the kernel in PDA
I put the firmware in CSC (I have tried a few combinations of these)
I hit start.
Now, sometimes it gets stuck at the end of the copying process (just before the reboot). If I reboot manually it tries to install.
Other times it appears to install properly (ODIN says PASS! though the phone does have an error as above (unable to write to 'system/csc/TMU' or something similar).
Then it gets stuck on the boot animation.
It works fine with these firmwares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278, but they're not branded to t-mobile.
I'm worried that if I send it off they will say I've voided the warranty by installing non-t-mobile firmware. I've always stuck with official firmwares to be on the safe side - but now I seem stuck with unbranded ones.
Any thoughts?

One more question. How do I know if I need to use USB jig? As far as my phone goes I don't have the yellow triangle, and it says "Custom Binary: No" on the boot loader when flashing a rom... I've only ever installed official roms (no custom roms) - so does this mean I'm safe warranty-wise?
If I need USB jig, can this be done via software, or do I need the dongle?

**** man what are you doing???? Firmware and kernal both get flashed in the PDA section. So you can only flash 1 at a time. First firmware then kernal if required.
The firmware should already have a kernal built in.
Try again.
Edit: While I was posting it seems you got it sorted.

Yep. You only really need to flash a kernal when you want a custom one like cf root, speedmod, siyah etc. These can add things like root, cwm recovery for custom rom flashing, overclocking ability etc.
As for usb / download mode jig its mainly used to remove the yellow triangle and binary counter which show after flashing unofficial kernals in Odin. Its also an easy quick way to get into download mode. I bought one off eBay for $2 delivered.

In download mode, if there's no yellow triangle and it says
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
then you don't need the USB Jig.

First, I'll start with a positive. I have come from using an iPhone, and I was quiet comfortable with jailbreaking and cydia. I now have a Samsung Galaxy S 2 / II (GT-I9100T). I am from Australia, and on the Telstra network. Whoever is in the same boat would know it is quiet an adjustment, but you can root! (if you wanted to know).

Second part is a question, is there any debranding roms / kernals that is ok for the GT-I9100T? I have tried the *#272*IMEI# but it only had 'Preconfig - TEL'

My Kernal version, after the root is 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513root<insertATsymbol>DELL103 #2
Hopefully with these answers I can help other fellow people out with this particular model (that are sold in Australia). Also if someone has the stock Telstra rom for re-flashing (if needed for warrenty) please point me in the right direction.

Ive got the GT-I9100T from Vodafone (both can run on the telstra bandwidth now ) and have had no issues flashing most roms. Only thing you may notice is the new modems aren't as good as the stock ones you currently have, so you may need to reflash the original modem through odin to get the best support.
Before you do flash though, make sure you back up your /efs folder, it contains the bin files for your IMEI for your phone, and people have reported flashing a rom can change that, so beware! also, before you do flash, try find the stock telstra rom for your phone incase you need to reflash. There are a few threads about it all, so good luck
The i9100T can use i9100 roms, but it will change the product code to i9100.
Easiest way to root is using CF-root, match the part of the version number in bold "PDA: 19100TDVKF4"
My phones info:
PDA: The rom/kernel
PHONE: The modem/radio, responsable for signal quality and speed, you dont need to match this to rom version, and the best way to find a good one is to test different ones.
CSC: APN settings and bundles apps, no need to match this, but if you do chose to all you may have todo is enter your APN settings for internet and MMS manually.
You can flash any rom onto any SGS2 via odin, see this guide, that will debrand etc.
Also, you rooted using a very old insecure kernel, people have had random reboots with that one, I suggest you flash back your stock kernel (you will keep root) or flash a version of cf-root (you will gain clockworkmod recovery, a way to flash roms/etc from your phone, and nandroid, a whole phone backup system, like snapshots)
I would recommend flashing DarkyRom2 on your S2. Runs fast, stable and great battery life. It roots your phone as well and changes your kernel to SuperCore which has a lot of optimisations.
Instructions:
Since you're not rooted (stock firmware/kernel)
1. Flash SuperCore_1.7.tar with Odin (put in PDA and do NOT tick repartition)
2. Get DarkyROM2 Tool and Superuser from market
3. Upload DarkyROM2_XXKH3_Base_R2.zip to SD-Card (INTERNAL)
4. Open DarkyROM2 tool. Accept SuperUser access request notification (this confirms you are rooted.
4. Under the DarkyRom tab, be sure "Wipe User data" is selected AND "INSTALL MODEM" is NOT SELECTED. (this will wipe everything from your phone but keep your stock KF4 modem. Any other modem causes signal problems for our I-9100T. )
5. No need to select "Install Kernel" Since SuperCore 1.7 is already installed.
5. Go back to the General Tab and use "Flash/Install File from SDCARD" to browse to and install DarkyROM2_XXKH3_Base_R2.zip
6. Wait for the phone to reboot and flash the new firmware

Unfortunately I cannot seem to find a KL2 kernel for CF-Root to patch it with... any suggestions?
Also, the site that held all the OEM kernels (MultiUpload) for download is now showing a "Shut down by the FBI" logo : )
As long as you're certain you've got a I9100T, use the KL1 CFRoot kernel. Will work fine.

3. Any way to restore the KL2 kernel in the future?

1) Doubt it. And the only link for DCKL2/Thailand in Intra's official firmware thread is dead as it was MegaUpload, and he more than likely won't have a backup (you could always ask him tho). Search around elsewhere online, you might find a copy of this kernel somewhere.
2) I don't know for certain, but I don't think so. I would have thought something like language would be more firmware-related.
3) Refer to 1) I don't see why you'd need to ? In order to get warranty service from Samsung, all you'd need to do is flash the most recent firmware available for your phone (for all they know you could easily have got this from an OTA update via Kies), do a factory reset/make sure there's no apps left on your phone that could tip off whomever repairs it that the phone was rooted, and use a jig to reset the flash counter. Obviously there are no rolled gold guarantees with getting warranty service once you've voided same by rooting the phone/running non-stock firmware firmware on it, tho.

I was just worried it might stop future updates to ICS or similar via Kies.
At least I think I've managed to find another copy of the latest kernal on a site other than MegaUpload...
It's at 50% and counting : )

Running a CFRoot kernel over stock firmware should still allow you to receive OTA updates via Kies. If you find it doesn't, simply use Checkfus (search for it on here), it allows you to find/download the latest firmware for your phone/country that you'd normally get via Kies.

I ran the guide from Intra.
Installed an insecure ROM and then ran SuperOneClick and was rooted.
I restored the OEM kernel that I found online and BINGO - UNROOTED!
I repeated the procedure just to check everything again... same deal!
Phone is currently unrooted again...

Yeah, if you flash an original (unrooted) kernel over your rooted kernel you'll lose root.
There's a procedure for removing the yellow warning triangle at boot in the CFRoot thread & also retaining root, but I found it too fiddly when I first rooted my phone so I simply bought a jig & did it that way.
I can't speak for anything to do with SuperOneClick as I've never used it.

Apparently so... now I'm confused about what the guide was trying to achieve.
Also, Kies now tells me it's not compatible with my device... Perfect!

As I said, I have no idea whatsoever about anything to do with SuperOneClick. If you want a rooted phone minus the yellow warning triangle at boot without fiddling around, root it with a CFRoot kernel, buy a $3 jig from eBay, done.
So far as Kies not working, you could try uninstalling/reinstalling Kies, or simply use Checkfus as I've said previously. Me, I'd use Checkfus. Quick, easy & like the paragraph above, no fiddling around.
Edit to add - Yes, obviously Kies won't work if you're running an "insecure rom" as per your post above. I presume you mean a custom rom you found somewhere on here or elsewhere ? One of my earlier posts did say Kies should (not always) work if you're running a rooted kernel over a stock Samsung rom. If you're running a non-stock rom Kies won't work.

Ditch Kies there is a better alternative out there. MyphoneExplore, do a seach via google. You'll also need to get the app client software from the android market. I use it to synch my work Outlook Calendar to my phone. You can also back up your contacts, sms and call records.

Edit: I tried CF-Root KL3 (wanted KL2) and it seems fine so far.
I have root and everything else seems the same (Thai language support etc.)

Something may have borked so far as the CSC goes (which tells Kies, the Market, etc where you are). I did say you should be able to use Kies, you're not the first person to have problems with it after rooting
Personally speaking, I've never used Kies & almost certainly won't use it. Ever. Custom roms/kernels are a piece of you know what to flash via CWRecovery (or Odin for that matter), and official firmware updates are easy to get with Checkfus & flash via Odin if I ever have to go down that path for warranty purposes or whatever.
Kies is a truly awful piece of software

Yeah Kies is dodgy...
When I got home I plugged it into Kies on the home PC and everything was fine!
Have you experimented much with any Custom ROM's?

So I tried updating my phone through KIES since I knew 2.3.5 was available for my phone, and it failed to update, so I tried to go into recovery mode, but I don't get that far, I only get to a screen where it shows a mobile phone and a computer wired together and the wire has a warning sign (like if it has no connection to a PC).
The phone is bought through Telenor in Sweden, if it needs a new firmware or something, can I get some directions?

Since it's only 2 weeks old and I can't survive without a phone, I want to give it a try to do it myself (since I guess this is exactly what they will do themselves anyways, right?)
Any help finding the right one? I checked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 and didn't find Sweden under "Telenor", but found Norway. Not sure if there is a "Nordic" version.

Same thing happened to me!
I would recommend just flashing CM7 or other custom ROMS, now that you're going to have to mess around.
Download lightning ROM + ODIN (it's in the same thread), flash it, should work fine, and you also have a rooted phone. From there on, try things out, before deciding to go back to samsung official Roms.
My experience with the HD2, is that "support" for custom Roms seems to be way better (and Kies sucks!)

Downloded the STOCK KERNEL and it contained Kernel_I9100XWKI4.exe (which I extracted which gave me Kernel_I9100XWKI4.tar), should I put this in PDA in ODIN and just press "Start"?
Also, how long time would you estimate it to take?
[EDIT]: checked the italian video in that thread and downloaded XWKI4 OXX MultiCSC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) and then I do as he and put that in the PDA slot in odin and press start, now let's see if anything happens.

Hi, Rooting through odin currently seems to be the most reliable and safest option.
There is other methods however can cause problems with the phone.

Based on the current firmware download the cf root that matches it, extract it and flash using odin.

I literally just received my SGS2 about 2 hours ago and read a bit of the thread, not all considering how large it is.
I know this roots but does this unlock the BL at the same time since its installing CWM?

Up until recently, SGS2 bootloaders have been 'unlocked'. The easiest way to test this would be to try and use a jig to reset the flash counter on the phone after you've rooted it.
If you can't reset the counter, then the firmware that came with your phone has the locked bootloader (I'm sure someone will be along any second now & tell us exactly which version the bootloader started to be locked in . The details are somewhere on the forum).
Easy fix to this is to flash firmware that has the bootloader unlocked. Alternatively, you simply flash the old bootloader over whatever firmware you're running. This is also available on the forum *somewhere* (I don't have a link handy).
Edit to add - About halfway down the page in this thread , there's a section in bold red type which has a link to a tar of the old bootloader you can flash in Odin should you need to.

Hi,
I've rooted my sgs2 using CF-Root, i found it better than OneClickRoot, reason for that is when i used oneclickroot the phone rooted then went back after i rebooted, which is weird. So i flashed CF-Root using ODIN and its perfect.
What I want to ask if you could help me please, is how can i see my flash counter? (if there is any)
and what is a jig, does it mean usb connection or is it a device i need to buy?

Go into download mode (switch phone off - then do 3 finger reboot - hold home, volume down & power button at the same time), if you've flashed a non-stock rom/kernel in Odin it will show Custom binary download: x, where x is the number of times you've flashed a rom or kernel in Odin.
The jig is a usb plug with a certain amount of resistance over some of the pins of the plug (301k Ω or thereabouts I believe). To use it, you switch the phone off, plug the jig into the usb port on the phone, it reboots the phone into download mode and you'll get a message saying "Erasing download information successful". It will now show Custom Binary Download as no & Custom Binary as Samsung Official.
This will also get rid of the yellow warning triangle that appears at boot as long as you're using an "old" bootloader. Samsung recently started including "locked" bootloaders with their newer firmware in the last few months that don't allow a jig to reset the flash counter.
These cost a few dollars on eBay, do a search for "Samsung Galaxy S2 jig" or similar.

Search for the zergRush method. Its the easiest one so far. I personally used odin to flash a rooted cf-kernel but used zergRush to root a friens sgs2 and its really easy. You must have the adb drivers installed for sgs3.

There's a ****ing sticky with one non-Odin method, which you just missed, because you were too busy furiously searching for other methods, which were also described many times in the same forums.
Hi kinda off topic, i already rooted my SGS2 by flashing insecure kernel from Odia for DXKL3 and rooting it then flashing back the original kernel. now i want to install CWM, I see a lot of guides and searched, all looks like that need to install a CWM enabled rom or use a kernel that is compatible with CWM, thats where the part i get confused since most of the guide points you to a diffrent kernel from the insecure kernel, cant you use the insecure kernel tha odia posted specific for my DXKL3? and i dont want to install a custom ROM just for CWM it would defeat the purpose since i want to back up my stock firmware.

Thanks for the explanation mate, so then the jig is a device to buy not just the normal usb wire.
I'm thinking of getting it but now that its useless if firmware wont allow counter resets using jig......
quick Q, is there another method of resetting the counter and removing the yellow triangle? (it doesnt matter to me but incase i need to take it back for warrantee id need to do that i reckon)
There's no other way to reset the counter that I'm aware of. There's another method you can use to get rid of the triangle tho. 2nd post of the CFRoot thread details how to do this.
I suggest you get a jig. For less than $5 the peace of mind having one gives you is priceless.

Hi all, I know this has been done and dusted but I am having problems with connecting to kies after rooting. I am running standard jelly bean 4.1.2 and is an Australian GT-I9100. I installed the siyah kernal root system and now all I get on kies is "connecting" Windows 7 recognises and I can access the phone via explorer on the PC. The phone after a while comes up with a message that there is no compatible software on the PC, install kies...
I have tried all the so called fixes including formatting the internal SD and memory. The only thing I did before it stopped connecting was the root and running Triangle away (paid version). I have enabled / disabled USB debugging. The only things I haven't tried is a factory reset which I don't really want to do as I am always sceptical that the backup apps will work after to restore everything.

Yes, Kies definitely sees the phone as it comes up with GTI9100 loading on the left top and in the centre it just sits saying connecting. I think the phone is not seeing kies as the message on my phone always comes up only when trying to connect to kies.
I have tried 3 computers/laptops same result. Different USB cables original plus other really high end ones also. No Joy. Looks like if I want to connect to kies I must revert back to stock kernal as the firmware I never changed it is the OTA from samsung 4.1.2 and rooted the S2 only...
Also Not knowing Samsung but in the about on my Motorola Tablet/phone even when rooted when you try to check for updates they say none available, the samsung actually says "Your device has been modified, no updates available"...

Now I am not using KIES, because I use AOSP ROM (4.3 Slimbean), but in past, when i was using STOCK ROM (XWLSN, XWLSS) I used "PhilZ-cwm6 - Safe Stock Based Kernel" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270 to root my phone.
If I remember correctly, KIES was working with PhillZ, but it is few months ago ...
So you can try PhillZ and see If it will work.(If do not need any special feature from syiah kernel of course)

Okay had a look at this, thanks. I do have a question though, my Kernel (PDA) is XWLSH, I have downloaded the 2 files but I am wondering how to install? Do I use my CW recovery or do I have to revert back to stock? A little confusing as he dowsn't really give instructions and I am pretty much an amateur when it comes to some of these things? Also I am running JB 4.1.2 he only mentions ICS 4.0.4? Help appreciated here...
Actually just re-read the post and I think I know now what to do. Correct me if I am wrong but the 2 files I downloaded are for 2 different methods of installing, the Zip file via SD card and the MD5 file by odin. Is this correct?

Yes. ZIP is for flashing from recovery and tar.md5 is for flashing from ODIN.
Maybe the best way will be to reflash your whole stock firmware to get correct previous state before you started flashing syiah. You can get it on Sammobile.com - (simple registration needed) and then use PhilZ recomended method - flash ZIP from stock recovery
What is your Country / operator, Try this http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ to find right and latest oficial firmware for your country / operator version for your phone.

Hi Again, solved the problem... definitely the siyah root was the culprit. I used mobile Odin to install the stock kernel, once done checked and could connect in kies and was still rooted missing busybox only. After that I again used mobile odin to install philZ, again no problems and all seems fine now. Everything working.
Thanks a million for helping and also many thanks to mobile odin developers as this is a far better tool than most and saves connecting to the PC Odin. Also seems a lot safer...

Hi all,
I am a newbie and don't know much. So please bear with me.
I was trying to root my Galaxy S5(SM-G900H) by using the tutorial given on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696537 but the process did not go as planned as keep struck on recovery.img on odin3.10 so I googled and found that changing USB port will help so I take out the battery changed the port and try again but this time I soft-bricked the phone as odin struck on cache.img and now when i try to start my phone I get Firmware upgrade encountered. So now I again googled and found about unified toolkit and install it on my windows 10 ,now when i choose option 6 (i.e. flash stock boot image to your device) it says waiting for usb debugging to be enabled ,now I remember I turn USB debugging on but it is still struck here. Now what should I do? My parents gave this phone just a week ago and I am in deep trouble.
P.S.-I am only able go into the download mode not recovery mode.
Boot into Download Mode and use Odin to install the original firmware. Might require a factory reset after if still bootlooping. Here is a link to 6.0.1 from Sri Lanka https://mega.nz/#!YMAFhR4a!pZmf7OEWgzDzET1FLGsAOQ5XyVlvE8y4pJfB8KDNbMI . Any region firmware should work for the F model. If you want your specific one then check sammobile.com. I just linked to the other because it is a much faster download.
Problem encountred while installing original firmware
I tried to use Odin to install original firmware , I started the process but Odin got struck on sboot.bin (Also I read somewhere that whole process does not take more than 10 minutes). So please help me.
Which firmware did you try?
You might be able to use Kies to recover your device as well.

Oh geez...no wonder it isn't working. i9500 = S4. Really gotta be careful with that kind of thing.
INU is for unlocked from the factory
INS is for phones from a carrier
Either one should work. As mentioned, with the G900h, any firmware should work that is for that model, no matter the region. Use the one I posted and change the language or grab the one for India from sammobile.com though it'll take an hour or 2.
Edit: I see that it was just mislabeled as i9500, but the download says g900h after all.
Were you on 5.1.1 or 5.0 before you started this process?

Well I downloaded another one from http://firmwarefile.com/samsung-sm-g900h the second one, before it all started I was on 5.0 and the link you give does not work anymore. Anyway I tried with the firmware with upper link. And Odin is struck with sboot.bin for more than an hour. And have no idea what's going on? So what should I do?
Also someone suggested to use Pit. Should I use it?
No, don't use the pit. Try the newer firmware for 6.0

So I downloaded the 3rd link from http://firmwarefile.com/samsung-sm-g900h for newer version and try Odin 11.2 with it. I try two times to flash the firmware first time it struck on sboot.bin and second time it just showed fails(I used Odin with administrative rights this time) .Please see the attached images. Please tell me what should I do now. I want to repair it ASAP.
Not sure. This is pretty standard stuff. Have used Odin 1000 times and haven't had that much trouble with it. Sorry.

I think I should mention that the firmware I used was INS not INU and if you have a genuine link for version 6 for INU with fast download speed, please share it (different than sammobile because it has only fast speed only for premium users). Should I use PIT or try something else than Odin. Anything that might help please tell me. I have got this phone just a week ago and my parents are not gonna give me a new one so please help me.
I keep encountering sboot.bin error ,maybe there is a way to resolve it?
I'd just try to load TWRP and a custom rom at this point.

I want to know one more thing on the above link there is a custom firmware and there is a custom ROM with bootloader and all. So should I flash custom firmware or use the instructions given on thread to flash custom ROM?
The custom rom does not include bootloader and modem. You will need to flash via Odin if you were not on the same firmware as the software is based off of. I would flash them anyway, to be safe. You can skip the root part as it is not need. Follow the instruction in post 2 for stock rom users minus the root part. Make sure to boot directly back into TWRP recovery before it attempts to boot. You can load rom on SD card and any additional add-ons you want. Plenty of youtube guides on how to use Odin to flash TWRP and such.

Finally seen some progress, thank you very much. I successfully flashed TWRP recovery, but I got a couple of questions. Firstly I should flash ROM from recovery mode and then go to download mode to flash boot-loader and Modem files right? Should I flash ROM from SD card? And if this custom ROM causes problem is there a way to get to stock ROM? And is this custom ROM rooted or I have to root it via CF-Auto root or try anything else?
Rom might work without bootloader and modem. Just depends on your previous firmware. I would try and flash it though as it was recommended. Rom flash from SD card or internal. Either way should work. You will be able to go back to stock if you can find a firmware that works. It is already rooted.

It should work to reflash the original firmware through Odin. Just get the one that matches your baseband version.
