Carrier IQ, is it in any of the Vibrant roms? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have you guys been following the drama with Carrier IQ?
I'm curious, do any of the Vibrant custom and/or stock roms have this program installed, and if so how can we uninstall it?

I've never seen it. But then again I have not looked for it before. I just put MIUI on yesterday so I may go back to stock tonight just to check it out.

I was just reading an article about this and wondering the same thing ^^ Be interested to hear some DEVs opinions on this

Most of these ROMs WILL since they are built from source.... ROMs like CM7 or MIUI will not be an issue.

When this broke a couple of weeks ago, the original article pointed to just Sprint..
As you might know already ,Sprint has openly admitted that they share their customers info with the government ... so this would go hand in hand with this tracking software .... Don't be surprised if its found in the Sprint IPhone ... So the short answer, no ..

Yeah, I heard about that Carrier IQ. Pretty messed up stuff.
Also to enable YouTube videos you only copy a certain chunk of the URL. For example if the video's URL is "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjL-xE_6avY" you only copy the part after the "=" sign. Which in the example URL's case would be "QjL-xE_6avY". Once you've copied that part of the URL paste it into the message box, highlight it, and then hit the YouTube button (

Actually all data you access on T-Mobile also goes through the government, not just Sprint. If you don't believe me, find out your IP addy on your phone. Then go do a whois IP search. You will see it is being routed through the DOJ.

Be sure to hit TrevE's thanks button, as the mastermind who is rooting this out for the masses and taking heat for making his finding public.
I have run his app, listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17612559&postcount=110 (oh yeah, spend a dollar in the market to support this guy, and buy the pro key for the app) and the checks come back that Carrier IQ is not in ZD. I am not 100% satisfied with the result, but it puts me more at ease than I was after first reading about CIQ. I am going to continue digging into it until I am satisfied of either its presence or absence from ZD.
I have followed other information from the original thread listed above, and have found some logs, but nothing seeming to contain keystroke records.
I am interested if anyone else has been testing this out with ZD, and what your results/determinations have been. I do not think that anything in ZD is logging keystrokes, but since this is built from Samsung source, and both Sammy and Tmo are included with the other dirty birds that are in fact using CIQ in their software, I am not 100% satisfied that its not, so if anyone has any further info or want to compare notes with this chef, I will gladly collaborate efforts to rid ZD of this, if it is in fact found.

Basically anything from AOSP wont have it.

Not in CM7
Cyanogen said on his blog today that none of the Cyanogenmod ROMS have carrier IQ, which I would assume will carry over to MIUI.

Carrier IQ does not violate any of this, people with actual credibility have tested Trevor(the man who made this whole thing up)'s experiments and came up with different results.

Just a minor note. The e-mail says "it". This is the first indication that they intend to unlock the EVO 3D (assuming your e-mail was about the 3D), as opposed to "future HTC releases" that don't inlcude the impending ones.
Thats excellent news!

Yes it was about the EVO 3D. I told them I was really excited for it, but if they were going to lock the bootloader then I wasnt going to buy it.

You do seem a little out of place here. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
If you read HTC's post saying going forward they will not lock the bootloaders but, since the EVO 3d is due to release pretty soon it sounded unsure if that would fall under that umbrella or if they are saying there next lines of phones.
People just want to be certain before they lay their money down and there os nothing wrong with that. Don't see how that is ungrateful. People will be extremely greatful if the EVO 3d is unlocked.

The EVO 4G didn't have the same type of bootloader protection, that's why we were able to root it.
So I will still have to root my phone myself for super user access. Sigh.
The only good news is others will already have super user access without having to root? Or just that they can root to get it?
Normally I am not short bus. I am just trying to be sure I understood.

I would be very surprised if it didn't. It's a brand new super-high tech top of the line device.
EDIT: bearing in mind that i have no idea what any of the classes specify. I know it deals with speed...that's all.

super user access aka root aka su, is to powerful to be available to the average user, one thing I lament with Android is, as much as I adore it bringing Linux to the masses, the standard users don't understand the cardinal rules of a Linux operating system. Root is like a user account on your PC, you only use it when you have to do something low level to the system temporarily, otherwise you can easily damage your phones system. This is why you see the root apps ask for then release superuser privileges. So no phone ever will come with root default. Its to powerful unless you know what to do with it. Plus it induces a serious security hole. Think about it this way, you root long enough to flash or run setcpu, then you return to your standard "non-administrator" account.

Hey Gary can you acknowledge a issue?

Hi gary, i am having issues with my prime (poor wifi speeds and constant youtube buffering) When I am in my bedroom (about 40 feet from dual band wireless N router) i get constant youtube buffering while playing "HD". Also i run a speed test and it says I am getting about 2 Mbps down speed at that location. In that same location my iphone 4 for says im getting 17Mbps down and no youtube buffering.
I was running firmware ".11.1" (not .11) and i had no troubles with the youtube buffering in that location.
Honestly i really dont care about my speed but i do like to watch youtube before bed.
So can you acknowledge that there are issues with youtube buffering and asus is aware of them? Again it worked just fine on .11.1 but not on the new version.
Thank you
Below are my specs
Wireless N dual band router
40M/5M fiber connection
8 WIFI devices (all work well but the prime)
Again I am about 40 feet away from my router

I would like to make it public that way if anyone else is having these issues they know Asus is aware of them.
With a pending lawsuit don't expect him to admit any problems....
Try pinching where the antennas are, return it, or rma it.

Its a software issue with YouTube not a hardware issue. I had no troubles with YouTube on. 11.1 but now I do with. 13
Sory i didnt read that
Read all of his posts he said to rma it to someone similar
I don't think an email will fix it. Again I know its a software issue because it worked fine on. 11.1, also I am on my second prime and it has the same issue.
Thanks

Riiiiiggghhhttt!!!!
You want to make it public so anyone else having these issues would be smart enough to use the search function, and not start another thread They'll read your post instead - which is a post about an issue already in an existing thread.
You want an ASUS representative to acknowledge an issue while there is a pending lawsuit against them...
You had another more respectful avenue to contact the person (PM) about your issue but refused to take that option. Yet, you want that XDA member - one who's been assisting a lot of users (whether by his choice or not) about issues that are not personally his fault, put personally on the spot instead.
In the meantime, can you help us(other users-since you seem in the mood to help out "anyone else is having these issues") by telling us if you've taken any steps to remedy your situation, so that "if anyone else is having these issues" would know what not to do, other than start another thread that complains and call out another user in the same manner?
And, as a way of helping you out, I'm responding to your thread so it would also be bumped up for other users. who may have overlooked your post, and they can read it. You know, the ones who might have these issues.
Hmmmm . . .BTW, you really expect a response from him?

And Gary is a big boy he can answer you himself and doesn't need anyone else to make assumed comments on his actions. If he does, he does, if he doesnt, he doesnt.

And maybe learn the rules and guidelines in this forum.
Here it is if you don't know where to find it.
[edit]
BTW Good luck on fomenting this attitude of calling Gary(or other posters name) out just to satisfy a user's ego - that shows a real level of respect on your part.
I think this is getting out of hand. Listen to what I wrote
I don't care about the wifi issues, there are numerous posts on it. What I do care about is the You tube buffering issue. With my current transformer I had no trouble loading HD video on YouTube in my room with firmware. 11.1 it seems like firmware .13 broke YouTube.
I could care less about a stupid lawsuit, I just want to make Asus aware that they broke YouTube in .13 version so they can fix it in the next version.
Also I wanna know if someone else has these issues because I have not read any other posts on thus YouTube issue.
Thanks

If you've been keeping updated, you'd know that the update (per Gary) is waiting for approval.
You want to make Asus aware of this YouTube issue in .13.
Have you sent anything to ASUS through proper channels to make them aware of this issue?

Try this to find out -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=14243570
You'd see that some people are having issues but not a percentage where you could actually acknowledge as an "Issue". Which means the variance is so low it can actually be due to user or app settings. The results also denote it could have something to do with Wi-Fi Issues.
Search is a valuable tool which should be used more often. It saves you the hassle of having to start another thread, and as well consolidates the information needed that would help other users with the same issues.
If you and other users take advantage of that tool, it would be easier to look for, find and resolve problems, as well as share information regarding those problems.

White House, FCC chair agree SIM unlocking should be legal

in a nutshell, the whitehouse agrees that the DRM ruling was never intended to prevent owners from unlocking their phone. Though no official change has occurred, it's a step in the direction to reverse the initial ruling.

You could have just left the thread to die like it was going to do instead of having such a huge stick planted so deeply that you felt so entitled to instead of saying nothing or a simple thanks you HAD to comment in such a jerkish manner.

1: not ads
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/the-white-house-replies-and-they-agree/
2: I don't save history at ALL...don't have cookies enabled AT ALL
3: the stories shown on the side of the forums are updates AS THEY ARE POSTED ON THE PORTAL
4: most people don't pay attention to anything posted on the portal around here and because of that, there are always threads started with links to a story somewhere else that people could have seen the day before here on XDA if they were actually paying attention
5: AGAIN, those are NOT ADS......THOSE ARE STORIES FROM THE XDA PORTAL THAT ARE UPDATED AS THEY ARE POSTED. "geo-based"....lmfaoooo ....I love how many "experts" we have around here
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/the-white-house-replies-and-they-agree/
6: I'm running an AD BLOCKER and if you actually looked at the screen shot I've posted, you would have realized that.
7: THOSE ARE NOT ADS, THOSE ARE STORIES FROM THE XDA PORTAL AND AD BLOCKERS DO NOT MAKE THEM GO AWAY
8: The funny thing is that MODS are going to see this thread and laugh at everyone here who is trying to attack me for being "wrong". I'm not here to hold hand with morons and tell them they are right. The reason why most of you people think you know more than you do is because you have idiots following you around all day listening to your crap and they don't have the common sense to tell you that you're WRONG.
I don't have a problem with idiots....I just have a problem with idiots having an internet connection.
This thread is no longer worth my time. Have fun trying to convince yourselves that you can find a way to prove my first post wrong.
And just in case you idiots didn't see the link I've posted to the "ad" (I still can't believe you think those are ads) on the portal...here it is again:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/the-white-house-replies-and-they-agree/
This STORY (not an ad) only has 16 comments. WHY? Because people don't even bother checking the portal for news and updates around here. Yet someone can post a link to the same content on a different site and people will go 5 pages deep in a thread around here. It just shows the problem XDA members have with actually using the sources on the site to find the information they need/want.
You people wonder why you have so many problems installing ROMS and finding things on XDA. You don't READ or pay attention to ANYTHING around here and this thread proves it. Go ahead, check my post history all you want. See how many post you find by me trying to get help with something around here. You will find that it hasn't happened much if at all because I actually READ AND PAY ATTENTION. You will also see that I never post anything that has already been posted on the portal because I READ AND PAY ATTENTION.
There's actually no need for this thread. As mentioned its in the portal. Also this law never really affected this device.... So it shouldn't be here anyways... Thread locked

[REF] How to disable "Presidential Alerts"

This mod was discovered for the S3. I have followed the instructions and verified that it works on the S4 also.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829681
I was able to "open as text" in Root Explorer to modify the original file. Saving the file from there automatically created a .bak of the original.

My question is why would you want to disable them? If a presidential alert was ever issued I think you'd definitely want to know about it as they are not issued often at all.

On my old Droid X I used to get Emergency Alert System Tests under the "Presidential Alert" heading. They were obnoxious. Not to mention the fact that I simply don't use my phone that way and prefer to get my emergency preparedness alerts from other sources. Oh, and I also have a real problem with .gov cramming this useless nanny-state garbage down my throat.
You want your "[propaganda] alerts" that's fine, don't turn them off. Some people want them turned off and the link above explains how.
That's strange that you got common EAS tests, as I have never received one in my history of owning a smart phone or any phone for that matter. I think it would be a wise idea to keep them on there just in case you are not around "other sources" if something crazy happened. Just my two cents. But thanks for the contribution, I am sure there are other people that feel the same way.
Are we supposed to believe any message that comes through those alerts?
You guys do as you want, I just hope not tax payer money will be spend rescuing you after you fail to heed the warnings.

lol yet taxpayer money goes out to pay for the systems to send these texts out. i don't need a text to get a tornado warning; there's 2893489234893 weather apps on android that do it, along with the fact i own a weather radio that specifically alerts me for it. i don't need my cellphone to do it from the government.

Welt it never hurts. The weather apps I find can have a delay and if a tornado is rilling my way id like to have as much warning as I can get and as many warnings.

In all the time I've been a smartphone user, I've gotten test alerts every once in a good while, and the only emergencies I've ever gotten was several flood warnings, despite the fact that in that realm of time we even had tornado emergencies and ZERO EAS alert on my phone.
This shouldn't even be a conversation. If you statist sheeple want your paranoia alerts no one is stopping you. Yet you have this retarded mental breakdown that those of us capable of self reliance and critical thinking need to be convinced to see things your way. You just can't deal with the fact that your view isn't the only one, can you?

Not really, it's just tinfoil hat club conspiracy theorists like you that have to denouce a tested and proven method of keeping the general populace safe. Did you throw your FM radio out the window when it started giving weather alerts?

Looks like the oxygen is pretty thin up there on your high horse.
It's ironic that you mention critical thinking skills because your rant is clearly and concisely demonstrative of a lack of said skills. You may want to study up on logical fallacies because you've relied on them heavily.

The reason nobody is agreeing with you is not because of your stance, it's because of your attitude. Even the people that would normally agree with your point of view most-likely closed the topic and shook their head because you're coming across like a spoiled teenager telling his parents he doesn't need their help and wants to do things his own way.
If you don't want the alerts: Wonderful; however, calling people that see a need for the alerts (or at least understand the reason for them) statist sheeple and [mental retards] is beyond reprehensible.
Oh, and read najaboy's response...then do a google search for logical fallacies. It's like you're just going down the list while creating your argument and demonstrating every one.

Just wanted to point out that this is not a "Presidential" alert, it's an "Extreme" alert, which ARE able to be unchecked by default.
I usually am really good with words. But this thread has left me quite speechless... Closed before the President reports anymore weather....

[VIDEO] HTC One Max Adobe Flash Player Install - Stock Browser

Obviously there are a number of site still utilizing flash. If you need to be able to access these sites and their features from your phone, watch on.
Download:
http://flash.cricketusers.com - download from your phone. I've posted this link tons of times. It is on my site and I use it for just about every device I've had for the last year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to post them below. Thanks for watching. It's only through viewers like yourself that I'm able to afford this stuff.
When 4.4 comes out, I'll be modifying this post most likely.
I have a check box in my internet app that says Enable Flash Player...
Otherwise we would still be able to use the basic process of downloading the last adobe flash version (link below) and setting the enable plugins to always on.

Interesting. If I uninstall Adobe Flash Player, I don't have the option.

So everyone could use the link to the authoritative flash apks I provided and install to get that check box.
I appreciate you making the thread about itbso people know, just prefer people use authoritative sources with more widely proven methods.
You'll have to use a modified version of Flash Player once Kit Kat is out. None of those APKs will work.

Great. And now that we already have the link to people that have it working on 4.4 and provided the download we wont have to watch the link you get paid for and download from your random server.
At least I know not everyone I've provided information to in the past is like you.
Sent from my HTC6600LVW using Tapatalk
I have no problem with you providing information. But while you easily could have said where the flash apk is and how to check a box after installing it (like I did) you are sending people to a video at a link that you get paid for views on and your own server to download the file.
Hopefully everyone else you have "provided info to" double checks things like I do.
This site has at least 6 ads displayed on any page. Not everyone on XDA Developers has had an Android phone before. This could be their first experience with the Android OS.
That link is to a dedicated server hosted by SingleHop who I pay roughly $250 dollars to a month. It has a 5 day backup in case I get hacked and have to restore files. They scan the drives for viruses which include malicious code so I can't even keep root exploits on there.
The download link which was available outside of the video is a redirect to the file location. So instead of copying a URL in case they are reading the information from their computer, they can just type in flash.cricketusers.com. This download location has been quite a few times on XDA and other sites.
Just a quick search of first page results shows that videos about flash installs on my Youtube channels have been shown at least 60k times. Someone thought it was worth viewing.
I only care to post this as your remarks in another thread I posted were of equal quality. A negative remark about the Verizon version of the HTC One Max not supporting AT&T LTE bands.
Out.
EDIT: http://flash2.cricketusers.com conveniently goes to a copy on my server of the modified APK for KitKat. I would give credit, but the other post did not mention the author from what I can see.
Dude. Its very simple. Its against xda rules to post a link to any site that pays you for others to access. I wont go into how shady it is to not just point someone at the working adobe apk directly and tell them to check one box.
I hope you are out...
PS I have a family member that I wanted to be able to use the verizon max on att so wasnt happy that it wouldnt work.

Are you sure no one has posted a video about how to do something on XDA before? :good:
The download link was provided without cost / ads / etc.
I could have been like you and just told them it was there by default. Misinformation is still information right? You would have told them 1 way not to do it. Way to go Soldier.
I'm sure when Verizon was having discussions with HTC about the production of the Max, they didn't say "Please make sure our device can be used on AT&Ts network to include LTE so that their customer can buy it from us and put it on their network. Even better make sure it works perfectly so our customers can leave with their Max and go to AT&T".
Deflect the facts and continually try to bait someone by twisting their words. Guess that is the best our military can teach our psyop soldiers...
=) your tax dollars at work.

HTC one is an awesome phone. I like HTC's new launcher. Looks better than the old one.:good:
