[Q] Ext SD Card within Internal SD Card - Motorola Droid RAZR

is it possible to have the Ext SD card Folder within the INternal SD card folder for use with other file managers like Astro or when plugging the phone via USB into a Media Player. cos on both those cases Astro and the Media Player only pick up the internal SD card.
The Samsung galaxy S/SII has it implemented within the internal SD Cards directory

Access to 2gb SD card?

I'm on astro and cannot seem to find the directory to access the 2gb SD card. All i see is the sdcard directory, which is the main internal mem.

[Q] Apps use internal storage as SD card, can not see actual SD card

New Atrix, unmodded. Tested on default storage setting set in either internal storage, or sd card.
16g sd card.
Card contains music, books and pictures.
File manager of the phone can see it and folders on it just fine, music player can see music files on it just fine.
Market bought music player( Power Amp) does not see SD card, it can only see internal storage as SD card.
Cool Reader- same- it thinks internal memory is SD card.
Neither can browse to the SD card.
Both apps worked with droid x and nexus s phones succesfuly before.
Apps that have ability to browse internal memory (tiny player and fbreader)- can go to /sdcard-ext/ and find files there.
Is there any way to make sure that apps, that are built to use SD card for their media would be able to see and use SD card, instead of "virtual" SD on the Internal Storage?
Thank You

Hi,
I had the same issue with a app called Slideshow Bob. I came from a Samsung Captivate and the file system was such that the external card was seen as a subdirectory of the internal card. I never had a problem with this arrangement in apps. However, the Atrix sees the external card as completely separate and some apps simply could not "see" the external card. My solution? I used a different slideshow app. Not exactly the ideal solution, but I had spent enough time trying to work around it. I don't know how other android devices have the external card arrangement, but this may be a bigger issue than we'd like until app developers change their apps or Motorola decides to change it's storage arrangement. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your answer,
using different apps is a work around.
I used different one- moved my content to the internal storage.
Both work.
What I realy would like to see is - those apps work as intended, the way they do work in most android phones from Droid to Nexus S.

Has anyone tried to replace the Music folder on internal storage with a symbolic link to the Music folder on external? Not sure if Android supports symbolics or not...
Should have known it would'nt be this easy. Tried it on existing SD and found that symbolic links are not supported on FATx. Reformatted my SD to EXT3/2 and booted back up. I get a SD format not recognized error.

Can't read SD from phone?

My phone can acess and categorize the files from my SD card no problem. But no matter what file explorer app I cannot seem to pull up my sd card.
I am using CM7 if that changes anything.
EDIT: The file viewer shows me the SD card but what is says is my SD shows the contents on my internal card not my external one.
Your looking at the directory for the built in SD card. The external SD card is located in local/mnt/sdcard-ext.

[Q] Internal SD & External SD Problem

Good day guys and hope you can help me with this. Im running Miui 2.1.6 with Siyah kernel 3.3.1, my problem is my internal sd and external sd cards being swapped or thats how the system views it. whenever i try to move apps from phone to sd card whether via app manager or apps 2 sd it moves my apps to my external sd card which is annoying. im only using my external sd card for media and not for my apps. after moving those apps it creates a .android_secure folder on my external sd with .asec files on it. im assuming that this is a problem with how the phone identifies my internal & external sd cards, i tried removing my external sd card and again tried to move apps to sd card and it says it doesnt have enough space which is crazy because my sd card has 6GB free space on it.

Are external SD cards mostly unusable with Android 5.0.2?

Device: Moto E 2015
Android: 5.0.2
Coming from android 4.0 I could manage files on my external SD card using Windows Explorer, AirDroid, or any 3rd party file manager.
Now that I'm using 5.0.2 I cannot manage files on the external SD card using any of those methods. The SD card has over 14 gigs free. The card is formatted and works as Google pushed over my photos and music from the internal SD card fine.
Another problem is I can't move any apps to the SD card. With android 4.0 I could push an app like iBird Pro to the external SD card. Now when I try to push that app to the external SD card it claims there is not enough space. Android storage shows there is over 14 gb free and iBird Pro is under 1 gb.
It would appear that 5.0.2 is a total wreck when trying to make use of the external sd card. *sigh* I hear rumors that M may fix this... if the Moto E 2015 happens to get that update.
You can transfer media to your SD, transfer some apps to SD (if they allow it) But SD write permissions have been a PIA since 4.4.X, so hopefully M does sort it all out.
Sent from my XT1095
So basically useless right now. I manage my own media content in a structure I like. Sad. Hopefully M will fix this mess.
Still trying to write to the external sd card. Latest developments.
Moto E 2015
Android 5.0.2
Windows 8.1
Trying to transfer files or create folders on the external SD card in my Moto E 2nd Gen. causes the following error:
"The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."
What I can do:
Delete folders
Read
Copy from sd card to Windows
What throws the error:
Creating a folder
Copying files to the sd card
On the device itself I cannot get any file manager to write to the external sd card. Apps that try to setup write permissions to the sd card fail. Android itself was able to move photos and music to the sd card when I inserted it into the phone. If I try to move any app to the SD card it says there is not enough space. It has 14gb free.
I finally tried using another computer. The other system is Windows 7 and I was able to created folders and copy files to the external sd card in the phone.
Back to my main system (Windows 8.1) I used USBDeview and cleared ALL usb drivers. Reconnected keyboard and mouse. Then plugged in the phone... same behavior. I have also tried installing Motorola's driver suite and have the same result. I have tried various USB ports on my motherboard both USB 2 and 3.
I'm at loss of what to try next, besides a blunt object to both devices repeatedly.
And I may have just fixed the problem of moving apps to the external SD card.
I erased the card while it was still in the phone. I did this the first time I put it in. I choose NOT to have Android copy over music and photos. Now I can move apps over to the SD card.
However, when trying to create a folder on the SD card from Windows Explorer it just hangs: SD card (Not Responding). It does show "New Folder" after terminating file explorer and looking at the SD card again. And now.... I can rename the folder, create folders, and copy files to the SD card... wtf.
Perhaps the SD card is bad, it is incredibility inconsistent.

I have a 2nd Gen Moto G with Android 5.0.2 and I'm trying to move apps to the SD card as well. I'm a bit confused as to what steps you followed. Are you saying that BECAUSE you erased the SD card and chose not to have Android copy music and photos that you can now move apps to the card? Or are you saying that since reversing your decision and allowing Android to copy over music and photos (and possibly reformatting your erased card?) that you can now move apps to the card? And can you transfer any apps or only certain apps? Are you doing this on your phone or on your computer?
I can transfer certain apps to my SD card on the phone. And using the computer and Windows Explorer I can create a new folder on the SD card. I'm just not sure what steps to take next to transfer the apps to the card, or what impact there might be on data or functionality.
