I have a serious problem.
My battery is draining more charge when it is powered off than when it is on!
First off, yes, I am powering it off and not just putting it in sleep.
What happens is this; I power it off for the night, battery at 100, turn it on in morning, battery is at 70-50! Now get this, I reboot this morning, battery instantly drops another 10%!!!!
What on earth is going on here? Does anyone else's have similar problems? I did Google it, but can't find a solution, although it looks like I am not the only one with the problem!
Please help!
Edit: here is a screenshot of my battery use, if anyone wants (sorry, don't know how to post picture other than as attachment)
I had this situation once before. After I updated my firmware to 2.3.5 from 2.2, it never happened again. Hope this help.

Mine is US version, comes with 2.3.5.
Use the original version 2.2 Froyo that came with it. I did not want to update because everything works fine. no bugs of any kind. I think I did the right thing, because I have read several bugs related to the update to 2.3.5.
Do not always update is really necessary. Unless something does not work well or update the device will really improve. But this is not always true.
In my case the battery has excellent durability. An exception to games but that's with any Android. Even with a 2500 MAH as the G70. Luckily, I'm not adept at games.

Hey man I had the same problem with mine several times now, last night I decided to disable my wifi and this morning I still have full battery, not sure if the two are connected but I thought I would post this anyway!

I've notcied that my battery would drain faster when connected to wifi at home.
I have 5.0, 2.3.5 US version. I had a problem getting mine to charge to 100% (seemed to stop at 80%), but finally it hit 100%. Got to 80% in 3-4 hours, got to 100 in 6 hours extra!
Mine seems to drain "normally", at 65% after 23 hours. Not been doing a lot with it, just messing with apps (installing, rearranging). I always turn off wifi when not using it (especially if there's none around).
You might install "Power Tudor" and see what exactly is using that much power to drain yours that fast. Could be something stuck syncing (like if you have mail set to sync every 10 minutes).
Well, the thing is, it shouldn't be syncing or doing anything while powered off! Oh well, I have just gone to putting in airplane mode, then letting it sleep at night, doesn't burn any battery that way anyway!
Just curious, isn't "airplane mode" the same as just turning off wifi, since it has no cell radios?
I also question the time scale on the battery chart, never seems right to me. If your graph is 10 hours, and it was off at night, I would think it should register than 6-8 hours (or whatever your "night" was. Looks like it was only about an hour.

airplane mode turns off all antennas (wifi,GPS,FM radio). Yeah the battery chart doesn't make Denver to me either, but whatever.
Just keep it plugged in at night, I guess.

Me and my wife have the Eris. no phones were rooted.
My phone was manually updated to 2.1 and my wifes was OTA.
before i go to bed i turn off the data signal and clear out all programs running with task killer. it was 60% charged, come to wake up in the morning and find that the battery fully discharged and had to plug it in the mains to switch it on. a few days after my wifes phone is doing the same.
would like some ideas from you guys on some of the reasons this may be happening. would love to provide you with more information... just tell me what and where i can get it from.
Thanks.

the same thing happens to me but in a different manner. This started about 3 days ago as far as i could notice. While the phone is in my pocket it would randomly get really hot and most of my battery would be drained. This usually happens in the middle of the day. I have to shut the phone down and restart it and then I would not notice the problem for rest of the day. I have 2.1 V3 leak installed on my phone. any ideas as why this is happening?

Wow...that is strangely similar to what is happening to mine. It just started a few days ago as well.
I got up this morning with a fully charged phone (it takes all of 10 hours to completely charge, if it does fully at all) and after looking at facebook and reading a few news articles for about 2 hours, my phone was at approx. 60%.
This happens every day now and I end up chasing a charge all days between the ac adapter and my car charger. I'm getting sick of carrying my charger with me all day but I have to.
Mine is also getting hot. I first noticed this Tuesday as I was using Tapatalk while the phone was charging via wall charger and it got hot and just died. I had to wait about 30 minutes for it to cool and then it would boot up.
Like you said, this just started recently and I am also running Leak v3. I have removed all widgets and taken off everything I don't absolutely need off of the phone (apps, that is) but no change. Just as an example, I have had mine connected via usb to my work pc since 5 pm (it's now 1:20 am) and it is still not completely charged.
It gets to about 85-90% but will not close out to a full charge for hours. I just ordered a new battery today to see if I have just "overcharged" mine, so if that works I'm gonna get a premium (1750 mah) battery maybe and try that.
Very strange. I'd say within the past few days, my phone has had considerably worse battery life as well. Usually I'm pretty good about killing apps and there was one day where I forgot for most of the day.
I recharged it to full last night and have been killing apps and keeping an eye on it all day and it is still giving me poor results. I'm rooted and running a 2.1v3 ROM atm.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6137989&postcount=23
or this
Long press power/end button. Turn Airplane mode ON. Press the power/end button to put your phone into sleep. Press power/end button to come out of sleep. Turn Airplane mode off.
The cell standby percentage will/should eventually go down to 0%.
or dont use task managers / killers. there is no use for it on the phone. android has a built in task killer that is really smart.
could be cell signal as well
issue solved
Hey guys, I solved the issue, i used the *#*#4636#*#* and in my settings it was trying to search for a GSM signal, so i changed it back to CDMA auto PRL
It was very strange it would do that but still its been running like a champ now, thanks everyone.

When I do this and look at the battery history, it says
Running 100%
Screen on 9%
Phone on .6%
and my battery level is at 58% currently. Mine is already set to CDMA/Auto PRL and my battery life within the last week or so has utterly SUCKED! I get up and unplug it at 3:30 am (fully charged) and go to my first job. By the time I get to my second job at around 10-10:15, I have to plug it in because it's very low. All I use it for at my first job is to check the time every once in a while. I dont play games on it, surf the web, etc. WHY should my battery be draining this fast when Im not using it!? Im seriously thinking about trading this POS in. Im so tired of this laggy, battery sucking phone!
I have the same problem. I turn on the mobile network only when I use it. ill turn on network with a full charge and check the news for maybe 5-10 minutes and my battery is down 10-15%. I haven't always had this problem. It started maybe a couple weeks ago. I'm using Android 2.1 leaked v3. I cent wait for my phone upgrade. This phone would be perfect for me if it wasn't for the HORRIBLE battery life.

I thought the same thing because it said cdma/auto prl when I got to like step 2 but I hadn't pushed menu and gotten the force close which then brought up the screen that did have gsm listed instead.
Just make sure you go through all the steps listed there...
Just out of curiousity, which Facebook version do you have? You have an app keeping your phone awake 100% of the time which is why your battery is draining and the 2 latest versions of the Facebook app are known to do that. If it isn't that app, download Spare Parts from the market and use it to check what is using the most under Partial Wake usage, the app and the top using the most battery will be the culprit.
Well, just migrated to phiremod 5.3 and found this problem with my nook.

Well, two things here:
One unless the device is totally, totally shut down, this will happen on any rom. Even though the screen is off, the device is still running (which is why tapping the power button brings everything back instantly).
That said, CM7 based roms do currently use more power right now, since they don't sleep the same way other roms do - they stay more active. This is top prevent a gnarly bug however, and is currently int he process of being fixed. In the mean time, it will mean your device uses a bit more battery, and just need to be charged more often.

Thanks a lot!
Currently CM7 battery drain is about 2% every hour, so if you had a fully charged nook and then turned off the screen, it would be dead after about 2 days.

Yes, this is sheer and utter BS - the Nook is not a phone, nor will it ever be one. The confusion comes from the use of Android builds made for phones - "cell standby" merely means that the device is idle!

Personally I'm staying away from CM7 until this bug is fixed >.<
48% of battery life a day just from standby is too much
That is my thoughts right now on this too. I am running the Nookie-Comb rom for now until I see the battery being improved on CM7. I really like the developers work on CM7 and know they will get it going right soon enough, but for now, I will stick with this rom.
I was flying through my battery before, mainly because I play around flashing things and playing every game in the world on my NC. Since I went over to the Nookie-Comb rom, all seems well.
I went to bed Sunday night around 11:30 PM and left the NC unplugged. It was at 88% and when I returned from work on Monday at 4:30 PM, it was at 87%.. I will take that.
As of now: 78% Tuesday 8:00 AM
I gotta say, you all are missing out. CM7 is better than the Froyo builds, especially since you dont have to risk the SOD. And its not exactly hard to throw the nook on the charger at nite. But, have fun being behind i guess..... :-s

I have to agree, CM7 is rock solid! I have played around with a few other froyo rom's, but all have one bug or another I am not willing to accept. I have found NOTHING wrong with CM7 yet, other then the battery issue. I just fully power down my nook when not in use. I'm also running CM7 on my CliqXT and have been very happy. What's the big deal with having to plug in every night? Most of us have to do that with our phones anyway...
Yeah, while I'd like it fixed, for me I am just doing the same routine I do with my phone, plug it in at night. At least I don't have to plug it in at lunch time too, like I do with my phone... I always have 40-50% remaining at bedtime on the NC, which is more than enough buffer for misc stuff.
Although gotta be careful with games, they can suck up to 20%/hr off the battery, so I made a shortcut to the CM Perf settings and downclock it when I play some of them. Say Zenonia 2, 600mhz plays same as 1100mhz but 13% vs 21% per hour battery usage.
Stock I plugged in about every 3 days. But I'm also using my NC more than I was on stock too, so that's a big difference. I can use OpenVPN on CM7 thus I can sync at work now, plus it's more of a pleasure to use the NC on CM7 so I'm just overall using it more.
Standby time of .2% vs 1%/hr (when wifi is turned off at screen off) isn't that big a deal if you're using it a lot anyway.

Now, this has happened twice in the last week. I unplug the phone from my charger and place it under my pillow for the alarm to wake me up, and go to sleep. I disable both data and wifi so that twitter won't update and wake me up prematurely. Then, I oversleep about two hours, and what wakes me up is the phone that's EXTREMELY hot. The alarm doesn't go off and the battery is completely drained.
I have no idea what drained the battery and why the phone was that hot (I couldn't hold the phone for more than two seconds before I started experiencing pain). I've tried searching, but there were no topics like this one. So does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks for the answer, but even after doing everything there I have the same problem.
A few days ago, I was able to "intercept" the process.
I had just used the phone, and put it away. Then after no more than ten minutes, I noticed it getting extremely hot. When I tried unlocking the screen, the phone had frozen, so I had to pull out the battery to turn it off. When I put the battery back in again and turned it on, the battery level was down from around 80% to around 60%. The battery graph showed like vertical drop, so it was clear that it had happened within those 10 minutes.
Is there really noone who has had this problem before?

Try N.E.A.K ICS kernel. I had some really good results with aokp rom. It's compatible with Samsung rom as well I think. Check it out
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I'd be more worried about it setting my pillow alight
Steps.you could try:
- Wipe all data (Optional maybe an app conflicting with something)
- Update kernel or change rom to CM9 or any other stock
- If none of those work try an different battery
*I believe its an well wakelock had this when i was using siyah 3.1 Rc 1-5*
~Blizz™;
I had roughly the same problem. I did a full wipe and installed a custom from and changed the kernel... everything works perfect then. One of my friends finds taking his battery out every few days works best. Try both and see what results you get.
Sent from my GT-I9100 running ics resurrection v1.4 using xda app
I would have to guess that it's either the kernel or the battery calibration. Are you using a third party battery? I think with the original samsung batteries, this must not be as much of a problem (I have never owned an original samsung battery for my S2, sadly). I know that with my fake Chinese super-cheap "2150mah" battery, which somehow is small enough to fit in the original cover which makes me think it's more like 1350mah, I have gotten horrible battery drain problems for basically no reason. But, after following the thread where it was explained to charge to 100% and then take the battery out, wait three minutes, and put it back in, I've had the phone stay at 100% for over four hours, with wifi, syncing, and all that turned on.
I should mention that I sometimes also have had this problem where it seems to be charged, then for some reason it drops to 20%.
If your battery is third party, make sure you calibrate it. I've also noticed that the more roms I flash, the worse my battery life is, so I'm trying to resist the temptation of flashing something new every twenty minutes.
Good luck.
/proc/last_kmsg
Use it.
You could try downloading Better Battery Stats and hope to identify the wakelock or app that's draining the battery. If it's not either of those and you haven't always had an issue with it under your pillow, I'd say it's time to try a wipe and new rom and if the problem persists even after that...hardware problem.
Have you been able to leave it under the pillow previously? Part of me is wondering if the overheating itself is affecting the battery and causing it to degrade though I doubt it should happen so quickly and in such an odd fashion as you're experiencing.
After a bit more tinkering and testing, I'm almost 100% certain that it's the kernel, as it was the only thing "constant" in my testing. I reflashed over and over. I also think it has something to do with the wifi, since when wifi's off, my phone is fine and doesn't get touched by the described bug. So right now, I'm waiting for SiyahKernel 3.1 to be released while keeping wifi off.
On the changelog for RC6, it says that the "battery drain issue" is fixed, and on the changelog for 3.1, it says "new wifi drivers", so I'm assuming it'll be ok once the 3.1 is released. Thanks for all your replies and help.

Good afternoon everyone,
I didn't see another post on this topic for this device so I wanted to see if anyone knew what might be up. A few months ago, I installed the beta of CM7 on my Droid X2. It's been working great since then and I've been extremely pleased with the improvement over the stock build.
Over the past couple days though, I've been noticing that my battery reading has been incredibly erratic. An example last night had it go from fully charged to 4% in under two hours. When I plug it in, it charges at a normal pace up through around 25%, and then jumps to fully charged.
I installed a clean install of CM7 this morning and noticed the same issue persists. At first I thought maybe installing my new software drained it more than I realized, but it jumped from around 24 to 100% again while plugged into the wall charger.
I have several screen shots of the battery activity screen that I took when I noticed it acting odd. The one from this morning is attached below. If anyone could help me figure out what might be up, it'd be greatly appreciated. I wanted to start casually looking for a new phone, but not like this
Edit: I also have this one from just before I charged and just after the battery spiked downward.
Maybe you just need a new battery.
P.S. You talk on the phone a lot. lol

Heh, that's one of the things that has been acting up recently. That 65% is only a 7 minute call.
Well if its a software issue, an SBF should clean it up. And if it doesnt, Id say its the physical battery. But I havent been on CM7 in a long time. I forget what issues it had. I dont think this was one of them though.

I'll give a new battery a try then. I just wanted to check in before shelling out some money for a non-fix. I installed the 2.3.4 SBF this morning before giving 7 a reinstall and the problem seemed to reappear almost immediately.
Thanks for your help.
Try rebooting into recovery then go to advanced>wipe battery stats. Then wait for your battery to completely die before recharging it
I recently ordered two new OEM batteries for my Atrix 4G, equivalent to the battery I was replacing – at least they appear that way. When I installed the new battery, my battery indicator was showing that the phone was at 15% after only a few hours. I charged a couple of times with the same problem occurring, I tried the second battery. When the same thing happened, I decided just to let it die all the way and charge fully after. My battery level hit 1% and stayed that way for hours and hours of use. When I timed the battery life, it was actually very good and it appeared the battery meter was just reading wrong.
I tried several full discharge and recharge cycles and tried disconnecting the battery while the phone was plugged in until the ‘?’ battery appeared and reinstalled it. The same problem occurred again and again. Next, I rooted the phone and tried the battery recalibration app. Results were the same. I have followed this up with discharging and recharging the battery fully several times but the problem still remains.
I have now installed an app that reads the voltage on the battery. It reads ~4200mV when plugged in and fully charged. It will discharge to somewhere between 3200mV and 3300mV before the phone shuts off and it takes upwards of 30 hours for this to happen. This has proved to be a somewhat effective way to actually estimate my remaining battery but it is still driving me nuts that the meter is off. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the reply. I installed the app a couple of days ago. I have tried the first option "Run the Fix" a couple of times, once with the battery stating it was at 100% while plugged in and once in the middle of the day while not plugged in. It has not seemed to do anything from what I can tell.
I have not run the second option to Fix battd yet because I had to figure out how to install Busybox, which I have now done. I will try that option tonight and report back.
Thanks.
You should also read about the purpose of the app and how to use it. It is all in the OP of that thread. There is no point in running the fix just whenever you feel like it, it is meant to be run only right after the battery is done charging. Running it any other time will most likely just mess up the stats/percentage even more (not irreversibly though).

I did "run the fix" when my battery was fully charged overnight and rebooted the phone. I used the phone for a couple of days and it did not improve the situation. Last night I charged to 100% again and did the "fix battd" option. Today, there has been no improvement in the meter. I will try charging to 100% again tonight and try the force calibration option with the "run the fix". Is there any other way I should try to run it?
It will always charge right up to 100% and 4200 mV, the problem is the percentage will drop rapidly once unplugged all the way down to 1%. Once it hits 1% it will stay there and I can keep using the phone through the rest of the day and even overnight and into the next day before it actually powers itself down.
Yeah, I've heard of a few other people having the same issue. Sadly the battery fix app isn't going to help in your case - I don't really know what will, I'm not sure if there is a fix. Try searching the forum, this has definitely been mentioned more than once.
Hi. I just started using the Atrix today. I flashed the official ICS leak. But strangely, my battery meter isn't going above 50%. Can i use the app (from the link given above) to solve the issue>?
thanks.
Dunno. Why don't you try and see for yourself?
BTW I don't think running the leaked ROM as a daily driver is a good idea at all, especially if you only just started using this phone...

And I have a NeXus 4 as my main phone. My office gives me one phone, hence the Atrix.

I have done some research and have found that this has been a common issue for users of the Droid X. There are two revisions of the BH6X battery, SNN5880A and SNN5893A. Many users of the Droid X purchasing the 5893 revision of the battery report having the exact same problem I am having. They have solved it by using the older 5880 revision. They suspected that the 5893 was made for the Atrix and the 5880 for the Droid.
The problem is, I have the newer 5893 revision on both new batteries which, according to that info, should work for my phone. I do not have my original battery that I was replacing with me at the moment but I can check that model number tomorrow night. I only found one other thread where a person had this issue with the Atrix here. There is no real answer on how to solve or work around the problem though and I am not having any luck finding others with this issue.
Is there any way to adjust the battery meter settings or simply hide the stock meter? I apologize if this is a dumb question.
Problem solved:
I tried the batteries in my girlfriend's Atrix and experienced the same problems. Convinced it was an issue with the battery itself, I contacted Motorola through live chat and explained the situation. After talking about (some of) the various troubleshooting steps I had taken, they told me they would send me a new battery. The battery came and has been working perfectly for the last week with the percentage showing accurately.
The two bad batteries I had were manufactured 04/08/11 and 04/12/11. The new one they sent was manufactured sometime in April 2012. Perhaps a bad batch of batteries was produced by Motorola. That would explain why Droid X owners believed that the battery was incompatible with their phones. The talk that the battery was incompatible started shortly after those batteries were produced (it looks like around August 2011), and mixed in there are reports of the SNN5893A working in the Droid X for some. Hopefully this info is helpful to others.
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to offer help.
