[q] Liquid Smooth Problem - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I try to switch to "mount sd card" on the computer, I get this error. I believe I switched to the "themed" status bar, and I think that's the problem. I try to go back to the "Stock" status bar and pretty much the whole thing crashes for a bit, then reboots to the "themed" one.. so.. mm yeah. That, or the two are the same (but they aren't.. i've used both ).
I'm pretty much a total noob when it comes to phone stuff. Should I just wing it and wipe all my data?
The attached pic is the error I get when I hit "click this to change setting" for mount and stuff. then poof buh bye status bar
I get a systemui error when I try to change the status bar.
Thanks for anyone who helps!! <3

Not sure how your phone is set up, but almost sounds like your custom status bar programing is on your SD card...

Think of it this way... What programs do you still want access to when your phone is in usb mode? Personally, I have any programs related to phone use and settings manipulation on phone memory, all others on sd card memory. Like anything that is a customization or has root access, leave on your phone. Hell, I even transferred my personal ringtones to phone memory.
Go to settings/applications/manage/downloaded tab. Each app that you click can be swithed from being stored on phone or SD card memory there. Be sure your phone customizations are not.

-URGENT!- Restoring..

I recently upgraded to the Android 2.1 on my Droid ERIS. When I installed AHome I set it default and it crashed, again and again. So now I can't get to the home menu or settings... then 'AHome has stopped responding' shows up every two seconds. What do I do, I can't get in and the recovery isn't working, I have the 2.1 Boot still on the SD card. Right now I took the SD card out and it just gives me a screen with a large yellow arrow and the Android icon. What do I do? :confused
--update--
OK, I'm removing AHome as we type... I found a way to get to settings from Advanced Task Killer. I'm glad I kept the Notification in Information bar enabled. Or else it would be impossible... tks for not answering... I'm kidding.
--another update--
And woo hoo! I got rid of the HTC Sense thing. Now I have the Moto Droid look (except the information bar is still black)... but I got everything else. Woo Hoo!

HELP! My Notification bar has disappeared!

Apologize for being an idiot(kinda new to rooting), but My Notification Bar on GSII has disappeared. I was flashing the Greener systemUI thing on CWM. All seems fine till it rebooted. And then, it was gone. I factory reseted it and also deleted the rar file but the problem still persist. Anyone know how to fix it? Must i unroot the phone cause i can't seem to use USB Storage.
mine too! did you ever find a fix?
What happens when you press the menu button and select 'notification'?

[Q] Will somebody fix this already?

I hate having to switch skins after every reboot to bring back the apps I have moved to the SD card. Anybody else? Hope somebody figures out a permanent fix. TIA
Or, is there already a better way of getting around it?
it sucks that the apps on my sd icons go away. i didnt know switching skins brings them back so thanks for the temp fix but i hope someone knows a better solution. cant figure it out. i thought that maybe root would change it but, it didnt. i hoped that flashing the new viper rom would fix it but, notta. thanks to whoever finds out how to perma fix.

Root gives you admin access to the ROM that's it. If you did revolutionary and just flashed the superuser zip then you are still using the stock rom with administrator aka super user aka root access. The only way S-OFF will fix this is if someone makes a rom that fixes the issue and you flash that.
No fix, Sense isn't caching icons for items on SD.
However, there's a quicker fix than what you're using.
Find and install an app on the market called "Fast Reboot". No, not the fast reboot that HTC has, it's an OS reboot like tool that just reboots all apps and not the OS.

I always use Quickboot (until someone mods the power off menu) and it has a hot reboot option as well. I will try it out next time. Thanks for the tip.

This app doesn't actually "reboot" anything. It really restarts sense and other background apps.
if you go to settings, applications, running service, hit menu and touch "show cached processes then stop htc sense, it will reload all the apps and the icons. a lot easier than using an app to reboot from the market or switching profiles

One click to restart is harder than 4 clicks, scroll, find, stop, etc that you're doing?
I'll stick with my 1 click solution.
Then you do that, cause fast reboot doesn't work for me n my app icons

How to get rid of "External Storage Inserted" Notification

It shows up on bottom right whenever SD card is inserted. How do i get rid of it? Kinda annoying to look at.
Don't think you can. I've been staring at it for 2 weeks! Maybe when some ROMs are available.
Yeah hopefully as the custom ROM scene matures the devs roll get rid of that and maybe the dock icon. There seems to be a lot of notification spam in ics/honeycomb...unless it's an Asus thing

Notifications come from apps only (some may be system ones, of course), since apps can call notifications. I suppose this external storage notification is called by ASUS tweaked app, since MicroSD was never notified on my old HTC Desire.
I'd like to know as well. Just received my Amazon 16gb sdcard today and I see the same thing when I inserted it.
Just to point out, Acer Iconia Tab A501 has that (extremely annoying) notification as well, both on stock and custom rom.
Probably an ICS thing then.
It's honeycomb/ics thing...been like that since the beginning

Stuff like this can surely be fixed in a ROM or a hack once bootloader is unlocked and your rooted. I don't "think" root alone can stop it. I looked in SystemUI and do not see the notification icon.
Is there any other way besides using a different ROM to hide the notification?
What I do is un-mount the sd card when not using it, but leave it in the slot. Then when I want to use it again I re-mount it...that way it is still stored in the slot. 2 quick pushes on the card make its data available again.
I kind of like it, it reminds me that my SD card has not fallen out of the drive.
Try this, and see if it works.
1. go to Settings -> Asus Customized Settings-> uncheck "Use ASUS Quick Setting" -> exit
2. Bring up the notification menu (tap bottom right corner where the time and wifi signal is) -> tap the settings button under the time -> Turn Notification off -> tap settings at the bottom -> go back to Asus Customized Settings and turn on the Quick Settings. -> Exit
I now do not have the docking icon or the external drive icon, only the time, wifi signal and the power icons.

Hey that works!
But doesn't that turn off system wide notifications?
I don't know. I was just "playing around" one day and came across it. I forgot about it until you brought it up. Sorry, I'm just a noob user like many people here.

Personally I prefer having it as well. I think it's probably just a design choice. A decision had to be made on weather to optimize this functionality for those who plug in the card and rarely if ever take it out vs those of us who are frequently pulling it out and putting it back in. If you are frequently removing it for use outside the prime, the notification is a good thing.
For example at work, I typically do not have my usb cable with me however I do have a card reader that will read my micro sd card from the prime or my SD card from the dock (the dock sd card has the notification too FYI). So when I want to transfer something to my prime, the easiest way is often to pull the card from the device and stick it in the computer. When getting ready to pull a card, the icons are a good reminder to tell me they are currently still mounted.
So I guess its a case of one man's annoyance is another man's feature. I happen to like it the way it is.
I didn't like it at first.. Then I lost a microsd card and I knew I had lost it because the icon had disappeared..

cm7 sd soft buttons vanished

The home, back arrow, menu soft buttons vanished along bottom of screen. How do I get them back? I tried the show hide funtions under launcher functions but no joy. This is the default sd cm7 with the gray green android on home page. I am sure its an operator error. Thanks in advance
Are you sure the status bar did not force close? That would be my first thought.
If not, what launcher are you using? The default ADW?

I did get a force close on esfile manager just prior to that and. I did notice the bar was gone at that point. I powered off restarted, buttons reappeared. I think that might have been my first or second force closeinseveral months and yes it is ADW default. I would like to go to theCM9 with CM7 sd but I will wait a while.

Glad you got it figured out. The reboot usually does the trick for little did like that.
Also, if you're interested, you can run CM9 off a microSD card. Let me know if you are and I can find the link to directions.
