Android Default Settings? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I'm making my first android rom for the sgsii, but can't really find the default values, i found some when decompiling the settingsprovider.apk and in ro.prop
I want to enable Vibrate on answer By default specifically
Thanks in advance

Most of the default setting are in the systemui but what your looking for should be phone apk. Decompile them and look at the bools xml

Decompile the settings apk. There should be an bools.xml or something like that..

[Q] Pulldown UI toggles how to install

Is there anyway to install the Pulldown UI toggles like in the atrix 2.3.4 port on eclipse .2.2 or just regular GB for X2? Is it an apk or something built into ui?
Its part of the UI. No apk, but that would be nice.
Check the market for notification toggle.

I opened it up and it looks like systemui.apk controls it but I don't know if it is all xml or some actual scripting involved as I'm not a programer

k Then make a back up, kang it and install
I decompiled it all using apktool and realized that I can't do this but it shouldn't be hard for someone to. I did manage to make my status bar disappear though had to install my old systemui.apk to get it back. If nothing else alreast I will provide some laughter for others.

I know for a fact this is possible. The devs did it for the DROID incredible.

Oh its possible, you just have to code it in I believe. This is just me thinking out loud.. I have no clue how to do it.... kind of like on the lock screen, theres a call for xmlns:tabunlock="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.android.tabunlock"> that lets the phone know to have those slider tabs to unlock the phone.
Im sure theres some kind of http://schemas etc... for that power widget.

"Notification widgets

Is it not Widgetsoid2.x that all the woopla is about.
You will need both the SystemUI.apk from the 2.3.4 stock Atrix port, and the SystemUI.apk from the ROM you want to mod. You will then need to decompile both with apktool. After that you will have to take the "quickpanel" images from drawable-hdpi, then review the relevant XML's e.g. public.xml, strings.xml, id.xml. You also need the "quickpanel" layout, and to review the extended statusbar layout for the include that adds the quickpanel layout to the extended statusbar layout. After you have all your resources, you will need to grab the smali code directory called quickpanel from your decompiled smali folder. Then you will need to add all the resources to the relevant places in your ROM's decompiled SystemUI.apk and also copy over the new smali directory. After that you will have to edit the smali code to change out the resource ID's (in public.xml) for the new one's you created when you copied your new resources to your ROM's decompiled SystemUI.apk. Once you do that, recompile it, and you should be good to go

I actually took a look at this to see if it'll work or not. I decompiled both of them but the problem is that the X2 doesn't create the smali directory when it is decompiled. This is due to the lack of a classes.dex in the apk for the X2 (if i'm correct). With that being said, we would have to find a way to insert smali code into an apk that doesn't have it originally. How would we do this?
EDIT: Almost got it up and running. Just some problems with the layout loading.
I've still got 7 errors with the public.xml that I can't work out. It would help if I knew what I was doing, ah well good learning xp, and as for the smali mentioned above I got them when I decompiled so I'm not sure what you mean.

For those who are wondering, it installs correctly but for whatever reason it doesn't load up the layout properly. That's all I have to work out.

Set default settings

I'm putting together a custom ROM for the Samsung Captivate and I'm trying to figure out how to configure default settings. As in, I'd like to set Auto Brightness to Off, Audible Selection to Off, etc. This would be in regards to after a flash of the ROM. Any ideas? I can't find information on it anywhere.
Thanks!

You will need to edit the bools XML in the settings apk. They are in other places as well but that's a good place to start
Thanks for the response. I looked in bools.xml and this is what I see:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>
<bool name="has_intrusive_led">false</bool>
<bool name="has_dock_settings">false</bool>
<bool name="config_additional_system_update_setting_enable">false</bool>
</resources>
Do you know the other places I need to look? Thanks again for your help.
OK next I would check the settings apk and settings provider apk in the bools XML. Also look in the framework AOL's depending on model of phone

Thank you! SettingsProvider seemed to be the ticket. I did in fact find a couple settings in the framework-res.apk as well. Last one I'm looking for is the setting to turn off the "Audible Selection". Samsung should have disabled that by default.
Thanks a ton for pointing me in the right direction.

[Q]Change volume bar color and lockscreen clock font.

Hey guys, anyone can show me how change the volume bar color and the lockscreen clock font, so it looks the same as ICS. I'm using CM7. Please tell my exactly what to do (what I use to ''open'' and close'' the needed files, what to change, what possible files to change, etc), because my knowledge isn't good at this.
Thanks in advance.

You need to flash the ICS font. I think it was called roboto or something along these lines. Search the forum, you will find it. Its a zip file.
Regarding the volume bar though - think u need to change framework.apk. not sure tho.
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
I don't think I need to flash the font. I use font changer, and it should change everything, even the clock, so I think it's framework related too, but I don't know how change it.

Never mind about the clock, I changed the Clockopia.tff for AndroidClock.tff and renamed it. But it still want to change the volume bar color.

I know that, but I have 3 MODs on my framework, and I must know what to change in the framework to change the color. There must be a code somewhere that says wich color is used for the bar.
you need to decompile framework. (there are milliond of guides on how) once done go to the res/drawable folder. In it look for the progress_horizontal.xml file. open that file with notepad or notepad++ to edit it. there are 3 sets of 3 colors in there. top group is for the background grey, you need to change the other two groups.
Also, if you know the hex color for ics off hand i will do the change and send you the file so you can drop it straight into the framework.

Thanks for your help. I will try to find the hex color from ICS, and after that I upload my framework. But I won't turn on my PC today. Tomorrow, after I wake up, I will upload it.
EDIT: Found color code. Can make sure is this one (I am on my phone), but here is it: FF33B5E5
EDIT 2: If possible, take some screenshots and send to me, only from the editing part. I was trying to do and I coudn't understand exactly how to change.

mate did you managed it to get the change of volume bar color like ics.

Redesign apps without complex programming?

This question is to all the developers out there!
I am more of a graphics designer than a programmer.
I have very basic knowledge as far as programming and API's are concerned.
I know there are tools out there which can help you Compile and Recompile APKs, and I can do that without help,
but I was wondering if its possible to edit just the graphical elements of the app (say, change the app icon,or modify the typography, or color accents) without the need for changing a whole lot of the code?
If not, is it possible to learn how to do it in a short while?
I would love to modify to redesign a few open source apps and post it here for everyone else. ( Inspired by Android Design in Action )

Yes it is possible all you need this:
1 the app you wish to modify
2 an app called ninjamorph
A computer optional
And enough space on your phone to decompile on APK which isn't much
A way to save the app as an Apk on your phone ( ie titanium backup or the like)
Run ninjamorph I believe it has a tutorial with in and app if you need it very simple to use
It will decompile the APk of the app and then you can go into the product work space within ninjamorph and goto resources drawable depending on the app maybe drawable HPI just look through the folders then select the PNG you wish to modify and ninjamorph has ui to change right there on your phone or you can connect your phone to a computer and transfer the PNG file you wish to modify to the computer and modify it there then replace it and in the exact location you found it (with the same name names are I believe case sensitive) and use ninjamorph to recompile the apk, uninstall the old apk (if installed before hand) and install the new Apk and there you go should work

moving to q&a
if u only need to modify image files open apk from winrar, edit it and save.
Can I also change stuff like screen margins, fonts etc. this way? I'm guessing no. Right?

Is it really that tough? Any suggestions?

No you cant change the margins and fonts that way. You will have to edit the layout of the app by decompiling it and changing the XMLs and maybe some smali coding changes.

Wont do me any good. I cant decompile it as I am missing the framework dependencies to decompile it. I would start looking in the layout folder for the list layout xml. Then go from there. Is this a TW rom, AOSP, Ect. Those things matter as the mms apk is very different depending on device.
