[Q] color of s2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

will the at&t version get a white galaxy s2?? does anyone know any rumors or anything about this??

I doubt it, just my opinion, since att is all about the ****rocket and they are releasing that phone in white on December 4th.

and also, since it does kind of seem at&t is all about the skyrocket, will this s2 still be updated and not forgotten after a little while

Yes it should still receive updates and has been confirmed as a device that will get ics but honestly the devs here will have ics ready for us way before the official one will be out from att.

Every AT&T device gets effectively forgotten once it is released unless it's so epicfail that it needs an update just to fix major problems.
But at least we can pull from the I9100.

Wow, if Best Buy hadn't price-matched the $50 Radio Shack bf price for me (2 weeks after I had my phone none-the-less) I may be a bit temped to get the white skyrocket. Sacrificing some cpu speed, slightly crisper res and the better "in-hand" fit could be stupid but THAT THING IS SEXY! That's all I'm sayin.

White GSII or AT&T Galaxy S II

Hey guys I've had my Galaxy S II for 2 months and just returned it to Amazon because it had some.scratches and because of a dead pixel (also because of.no warrenty in US-which isn't that big of a deal for me). Anyways, wondering if I should get the white unlocked one or an AT&T version for 200 dollars on contract. I'm leaning towards the unlocked white because :
1. It looks badass
2. It will have resell value if I get the Nexus Prime and want to return it
Normally I don't ask others for opinions but I'm just curious to hear some of your guys thoughts on this. Thanks in advance
I can't help you because that's the same exact thing I'm debating.
Not gonna lie, the white one does look awesome. Look here for the differences between the two models: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308155
But personally, if I had that much cash to spend on a phone, I'd get the Samsung Galaxy Note.

...No, we have the chip but it's not activated. Do your research first.
I have both, and I gave the white one to my GF (she loves it). I love the white but the chrome ring looks cheesy compared to the black version, which has a dark gunmetal colored ring. Also, i prefer the 4 soft keys over the physical key of the international version.

Okay I keep hearing different things in regards to the FM Radio. Some people say it's completely absent in the AT&T version and others are saying that it's there just deactivated through firmware. Can you confirm that the chip is actually there?
I was going to get white from bell Canada but decided to wait and spend the 650 on a 2012 model then sell the att gs2.

I'm in the same spot as you except I can still return my GS2 for a refund. Thing is even if I get a refund, my AT&T plan has already been changed to Smartphone (from iPhone) so would they now roll me back and remove unlimited? I could just eBay the phone but I've had bad experiences on there with thieves trying to do chargebacks two months after receiving the product.

Thieves trying to do chargebacks? What do you mean? I'm about to sell a phone on eBay. Do you mean after they received it, 2 months later they try to get their money back on Paypal?

If you see entropy's kernel, he has initially tried to add the kernel module for FM and it was spitting out errors and the errors were pointing to kinda 'no device found'. He ultimately removed this from the kernel.
There are other thread in this forum which details the stressed effort from our members contacting both samsung and ATT about this and samsung finally mentioned that ATT version has only internet radio. ATT has even taken this from their site. Details are here in this thread.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I727R

Hey guys,
So I recently switched from an iPhone 4 to this beast of a phone and was wondering weather the MODS for the different models would work on mine since I cant seem to find MODS for my model
Any responses to help me out would be greatly appreciated !
Cheers

The Skyrocket is a completely different phone from the Galaxy S2. The forums you are looking for are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1399
I'm guessing you've gotten frustrated over the sllooww development going on in the skyrocket forums. You're best bet is to check out the tmobile sgsii.
Cheer up. You guys just got Red Sonya rom. That brings the total up to at least 4 I think. It might hit double digits by the new year........maybe

They're trying to push LTE.
LTE's bad reputation for battery life and phone size is likely one of the reasons they're so aggressively discounting it to try and get it to move.
Unlike Verizon, AT&T customers can still get decent phones without LTE.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note really that much worse than International?

I was reading some threads last night on the International Galaxy Note and it seemed everyone was *****ing about how awful and ****ty the AT&T Galaxy Note is, with it being much less powerful and stuff.
Is this true? I'm debating rather to pay $300 for an On-Contract AT&T Galaxy Note or just getting an International Galaxy Note for $700
I understand the AT&T version has a Snapdragon CPU and an Adreno 220 GPU while the International has a Samsung Exynos CPU and an Mali MP 400 GPU. The AT&T one isn't THAT much slower/worse is it?
I have the international with the exynos. I don't really notice much difference from dual core snapdragon handsets like on the htc's. honestly, if there is a difference, would it even be significant enough to matter? I went with the international version bc I'm already on contract and didn't know what the full retail pricing for the AT&T note was gonna be.
FYI, if youre looking for a new international note, expansys has em for $669.99 after $20 coupon. The good thing is that with warranty issues, expansys says that you can send it to them, and they'll take care of shipping it to whatever country it is that handles the warranty for no charge.
Edit: Forgot to mention the AT&T note has LTE!!!
Well to be honest the only thing that bothers me about the AT&T Galaxy Note is the lack of a physical home button (I love being able to unlock my phone like an iPhone like I already do on my Desire Z)
I can't answer the question with 100% certainty, but if I had to guess I would say "no."
I'm basing this off of what I read about the Skyrocket vs the Galaxy S2. It was the same argument: Exynos vs Snapdragon. Yes, the exynos out benchmarked the snapdragon. But for day to day use, after owning BOTH phones, I can say there wasn't really much of a difference. In fact, I returned my Skyrocket and went back to the SGS2 because of how similar they were, and I wasn't in an LTE market yet.
I'm moving to Austin, TX next month, which is why I'm looking for an LTE device again, which brings me to the Note. Based off of the research I've done, the difference will be minimal.
Obviously these are different devices, but I'm guessing this is going to be another case of over-emphasis on benchmarks mixed with a case of personal pride from people picking the international, and then an LTE version of their phone coming out.
I know a few differences that will slow the phone down and bug the hell out of me when I turn it on the first time:

You can expect around 25-30mb a sec with LTE depending on where you live. I think the International note maxes at about 10? I could be wrong.
Short answer: yes.

Sure if youre in a full lte coverage area, much faster data. But yes I agree with other posters, performance difference should be minimal to daily users. Now gamers is a different story but how many of us play COD MW3 or whatever on our devices. As for the physical button on the international one, as nice as it would serve to unlock the phone, its just another moving part that can collect dust/liquid etc as some iphone users have experienced.
Oh and main hope for me is that enough dev's show up with super fast roms
if youre in an lte market, I'd say the lte would be a significant difference from hspa+. Just because you can't achieve speeds on h+ like you can on lte. Even if you don't live in an lte market, it wouldn't hurt to have lte capability in case you travel or they set up one in your area.
I wish samsung wouldve put in dual 3g band radios on the international note so we can jump to tmo if needed just like on the galaxy nexus.

to be honest most of that crap can easily be removed before you ever root so I dont know what the big deal is on that.
As for the other forum ranting about ours as apposed to theirs I would imagine its the same ol same ol trying to make them selves feel better about their phone by putting down another. The Exynos is way better on GPU and processing but for a every day to day user you probably wont be able to even tell the difference outside of benchmarks. IMO mainly DEVS and maybe heavy gamer's maybe the only ones to notice. The functionality of the phone is the same and so is the screen, resolution, memory and storage. the biggest difference is processor and modems.

If you use an alternate launcher, say go launcher ex for example, you can hide apps in the app drawer, which will at least take care of the aesthetic cluttering until you can fully remove them, which I assume wont be long at all.

Yes, you can now remove most of the AT&T crap ware. Only a very small number of them can't be removed, especially the hidden one (City ID and Tethering Manager for example).

Even with TW, you can create folders and move all the AT&T apps into one folder so that you won't see them.
I tend to play quite a bit of games on my phone, but mostly it would just be emulators and stuff (Maybe GTA III and X-Plane too) You think I'd be good with an AT&T Galaxy Note?

Some, not most can be uninstalled. Some of the troublesome ones cannot be removed without root such as AP mobile. Is is at most a hassle though. I will most likely have both models. Do not know if that makes me unusual, but just wanted to relay my experience with my skyrocket and removable bloatware with ATT. Progress has been made but we are not there yet...

Last Note Firmware Update Installed on ATT Note Already?

Quick question...is the last update, the one that went out to the international Note with the adjusted keyboard option to one side or the other and the lockscreen changes a few weeks back, already installed on the forthcoming ATT Note? Curiously it seems that none of the reviews of late mention it as some still complain about stretching the thumb all the way across the screen to type without being able to adjust the keyboard. Thanks.
My guess would be no, but the minute you install Kies, or try an OTA update via wi-fi, it will show up.
I got my international note on Dec 23, the minute I connected there was 1 update available, and two weeks later another update which brought it to LA4, 2.3.6
These things probably have a 1 month or more window from production, shipping to, then arrival at a store.
I work on photocopiers, and the serial numbers have the build dates, and even though these things weigh 500 pounds or more, they have a 3-6 month window from production, to us unboxing them in our office. Most of the time, they are one version of firmware out of date.

International and AT&T have separate/different firmware release schedule and different firmwares as well. So, don't expect to see a firmware already there wait for you to update. It never happened on any AT&T devices.
Even though Samsung will frequently update firmware on international version, not so on AT&T version. First of all, AT&T has to request an updated firmware from Samsung. Without AT&T's request, Samsung can't do anything about it. Then, it takes couple months for AT&T test the updated firmware before OKed for release. Then, AT&T has to agree on a date for the release. Let's say GNote 2 or GS3 is about to be released on AT&T, the update for current Note will be delayed until the new phones are out of door.
I won't expect any update on AT&T Note until summer at the earliest unless some serious bug is found.
Got my i717M yesterday. It's running LA2. I have not come across any options for the updated keyboard.

+1. All updates to the ATT version must be approved by ATT. No such bottleneck for our version. Not to mention DBT seems to be on the ball.

True, IF any at&t note gets an update, consider yourself lucky
A carrier rom is usually the LAST one to get an update (except for iJunk).
Plus, please use caution and if you look for a rom not from a carrier, don't
try installing a rom made for an international (GT-N7000) to an at&t (SGH-i717)
and vice versa. Guarantee you'll brick it.

I wasn't aware of the keyboard adjustment, it sounds like the perfect fix for those of us that are under 6'4" and paw challenged. Shame the carriers are so timid regarding upgrades, but this keyboard fix is a need market app developers should quickly supply. That will make waiting for the big boys to bring goodies like CM9 a little more bearable. : )

You will love your GNote! I got ensquared for my GNote back in December, $58 for one year since I did not have a manufacturers warranty which you do. It is the only phone I have ever bought insurance on.
This is a screen shot of the stock Gingerbread Keyboard. I like it better than the Samsung keyboard. The one handed keyboard is Samsung keyboard option on my firmware LA4. I have not used it because I think the regular keyboard is the perfect size for emailing and texting two handed.

But make sure you are buying i9100 and not other i9100G or i777 or some other
You can also wait for sgs3 or other new phones

I've had the Leo since launch, I am kind of tired of it. It's showing it's age lately with newer stuff and it's starting to have hardware issues from massive use. Why that model number?
I "wanted" one of those samsung notes but tmob doesn't get them.

If he plans on staying with T-Mobile USA as his carrier, than if he gets the I9100, he will only be able to get Edge data speeds on T-Mobile's network.
OP, you should probably be aware of that. This is the reason T-Mobile USA has their own variant of the Galaxy S II, which is the SGH-T989. (which, incidentally, has a separate forum)
I switched from HD2 to SGS2 and i love it... My Sgs2 run perfect only what i miss are the many customs roms... But indie and rgui make perfect roms...

Glad to see someone else made the change, I feel bad since it's been a bad ass phone but it's just getting old.

Yes I plan to stay with them because as it is I pay I think 60ish a month for unlimited everything. So I am happy with that setup. I still laugh when verizon trys to sell me because we get a discount with them, for the same deal on there network it's 130 dollars a month after the discount. WTF.
Yes being stuck on just edge would kill me, I use my phone for skype A LOT.

If you don't want to be stuck on edge, then you DON'T want this phone. (GT-I9100) This phone simply doesn't have the hardware to get the right frequencies to get a faster mobile data connection on T-Mobile USA's network. You are probably looking at getting the T-Mobile USA Galaxy S II variant. (SGH-T989)
While many general questions about the phone may apply to both models, you really should be asking your questions in the SGH-T989 forum. I linked it above.
EDIT to add: You may ask why I'm referring you to that forum... well, the hardware on the two phones are COMPLETELY different. They receive different frequencies, and they have different SoC/chipset/GPU. So firmwares, kernels, rooting methods - all different.
Since yesterday I switched too, from HTC HD2 to SGSII.I bought the ceramic white version of GT-I9100 and it looks awesome,I`m very happy with it.The HD2 is still working fine(it has hundreds of flashes I guess..haha),but its getting old.Now I coming with a question, where I can find a tutorial of rooting, installing custom ROMS procedure for SGSII.The HD2 forums has tutorials to start from zero.

Check the stickies in the General section. There are tons of links in a roll up sticky post.
I think you shouldn't buy the T-mo variant as there is a lot less development on those variants as most of the devs have the international variant which is the I9100.
But then again that's what I think.
Make you'r decision carefully.

But the dude said he is staying with T-Mobile. So AGAIN, if he buys the I9100, he will be stuck with Edge speeds on T-Mobile. Which he also said he doesn't want. So if he wants a Galaxy S II that works with high speed on T-Mobile USA's network, he HAS to get the T-Mobile USA variant.
Edit to add: OR I've heard he could get an unlocked AT&T Galaxy S II Skyrocket and flash T-Mobile's modems to it. But why the heck would you want to do that? Those two phones are essentially the same (hardware-wise) anyways. And it's still not the I9100.
I completely get you'r point, but if he is a flashaholic then going for the T-Mo one wouldn't be a very good choice.
Perhaps not. But it's up to him. We can only give him the facts.

Hey guys, I got t-mobile and it's time to upgrade. Now I already have an HD2 and loved it since launch but I think it's time to move on, and this seems to be the most updated phone they are offering. So how is it?
Does this phone have any os options like the leo or anything neat about it?

I do not recommend you sgs2. I want to sell mine and buy galaxy nexus instead. For sgs2 there isn't fully working aosp ROM and it seems it never will be. I think pure Android nexuses are best choice and not by touchwiz destroyed phones like sgs2. It's my personnal opinion, someone may have different
