restoring renamed nandroid backup md5 error - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

so i did a nandroid then renamed the file (didn't touch contents) and apparently that broke the md5 check, now it won't allow me to restore and i don't recall the original file name to change back to. Any way to resolve?.

Delete intervals in the name of the backup.

I did, didn't work. I just deleted and recreated the md5 file in ADB, worked fine. Thanks!

[Q] Nandroid issues

So last night, I copied a nandroid I had previously made from my computer onto my phone. When I tried to restore it, it aborted b/c the md5 sum didn't match. Strange. So I copied a different nandroid onto the phone, tried to restore that one, same thing- md5 mismatch.
What's going on there? Is the file being corrupted during the move to/from the phone? That seems like it'll make storing your old backups on your computer kind of useless.

Make a new nandroid and immediately restore it. If it works move it to your computer and then back to your sd and attempt another restore to see if you get the same problem with a nandroid you KNOW was good before you moved it.
EDIT: you didn't still have your phone plugged to the computer when you tried to do the restore did you? If so try restoring it again unplugged. Its known to cause issues.
Sent from my cm7 Aria.
Yea I did end up doing that, I immediately restored the backup, it worked, so I went ahead and flashed a new ROM. When it came time to restore, it said something along the lines of "error writing boot image" and failed.
I ended up just using Titanium to restore everything, but it's worrying that my stored backups might not work.
EDIT: Oh, having it plugged in may have been the issue... I'll keep that in mind.
Did you rename the folder that the backup img files are in? They aren't supposed to be changed (i.e., "2010-11-27.21.30.28").

Nope, didn't touch them. Just copied to and from the computer.

[Q] Changing backup name

Hey all. I wanted to know if it was ok to change the name(s) of my backups in my CWM file from my PC. I'm not a fan of ROM manager and usually do my backups via CWM but it names it by date/time and when I get home I'd like to rename it so I can remember which darn backup it was.
If you rename nandroid backup that was created by CWM, you might get some MD5 errors when restoring that backup.
What you need to do is use ROM Manager for backup, and when you select "Backup Current ROM" you can name your backup and it will be fine.
Next time, use the Search
I found the answer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623348

Sorry, but I did search and the only problem I read about was you couldn't put a space in the new file name. I just renamed my 2 backups and restored with no MD5 errors. I just wasn't sure with the newer CWM version.... Thanks for the reply though.

I have been renaming my backups with spaces with no problem. i think its a little weird that you might have an issue if you were to rename them with a space

[Q] [PROBL]Cwm-recovery v5.0.2.7-nandroid backup and md5 checksum error

When trying to restore backup from CWM-recovery I get MD5 checksum error in 2 of 3 restores. The backups doesn't report any errors but restores stops because of MD5 error.
Every time I do a backup I have to check by restoring to verify that the backup is ok. Otherwise I can't trust the backup to be restorable.
This happens with backups/restores from either sdcard or ext_sd, no difference.
Anyone else experiencing this, and are there any solutions to solve it, or at least check the state of the backup without needing to restore it to check if it's restorable?

In adb shell or in a terminal emulator, navigate to your backup folder
Code:
cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/name-of-your-backup/
md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
This code resolves md5 checksum errors. Now try to restore.
In case this fails, use advanced restore to restore each .img one by one

[Q] md5 mismatch

Hi guys,
I know there are several threads on this topic, but no solution worked for me.
Yesterday I made a nandroid backup and everything went fine. Than I installed MiniCMSandwich, which works very great. But then I wanted to restore my old backup and got a md5 mismatch.
I tried this and this method, but they didn't work.
In my backup folder are only these files:
data.yassf2.img
system.yassf2.img
.android_secure.vfat.tar
There is no nandroid.md5 or any other file
What have I got to do to fix my nandroid backup?
By the way, I didn't rename it!
Please help
Michi
Ok Terminal Emulator method worked after trying a bit, but now I've got another problem! I created a new thread for that
You could have made new backup and replace the data and system stuff...? Or it might not work?
OK could you explain that pls? What exactley have I got to do.
I tried to take system and cache out of another backup before and put it in the (bricked) backup folder instead of the system and cache of bricked up. Then I tried the terminal method again, but theres md5 mismatch!
What have I got to do?
But... if you have an older backup, couldn't you just restore that one? Just saying.......

Yes I restored it and it works fine, but that was a backup immediatly after the ics update and all apps installed. There are no settings from apps, etc. Can I restore Data and Apps out of my old Backup? Is there an App?
What I can say for sure is that you cannot "mix" files from different nandroid, and that's because of the md5 checksum itself. If you mix the files, you'll always get an error.
I'm sorry, but I don't know if there's a way to "extrapolate" your apps and settings from another nandroid. Think you'll have to reinstall all your apps
Titanium Backup Pro can extract apps with data from Nandroid backup.
