I've just bought the Flyer Wifi the day before yesterday and I just realized that, with the Android installed (Gingerbred 2.3.4) it's is impossible in any way to connect the tablet to my phone (Htc Desire-Bravo) which has 3G. Neither with wifi nor bluetooth. Googling around (without making any test since I'm in time to give the tablet back if I'm not able to solve this problem) I noticed:
conectin to my Desire via Wifi tethering (through apps such as wifi-tethering and 5 more that I tested on my Desire) is impossible since these apps setup an ad-hoc network that it's not supported by the Flyer Wifi: in fact, in wifi settings the new wifi network (APAndroid) showed up, tries to connect but never get the ip numer;
sharing my Desire internet connection through bluetooth PAN seems to be also impossible since there are no PAN-client apps for Android
My question is: if I upgrade to Honeycomb I will be able to share my internet connection either via wifi or bt? (remember: Desire server, Flyer client).
I have just few days to decide to stay with the Flyer to give it back to the dealer and this issue is the most important one for me.

EDIT: Opsss!!! I've just realized that this is my first post! Sorry, but it's like I'm at home in this forum even if I don't participate so much...
There's a modified wpa_supplicant file floating around here that allows ad-hoc connections. I tether to my Atrix all the time.
Much more easy than I tought... I upgrade my Desire ROM to one of the last (Runnimede I think) and without anything else tethering with the Flyer now works. Next step will be doing the same with bluetooth, but, at the moment, that's enough to keep my new tablet!
Will this work for a view as well? I'm having the same issue.

I just posted a possible solution related to this except I did it on the View:

Hello.
I recently just got an HD2 but it is network locked.
So I just use Google Voice and it serves me well but when I'm not in a wifi zone I have to use my G1 which now isn't as great as it seemed to be last year
BUT
I can tether from my G1 and use it on the HD2 so I can use Google Voice no matter where I am.
Here is my problem
The HD2 does not pick up the tether. It picks up my house wifi etc etc just not my tether. I tested my tether out on a separate HD2 and it seemed to pick it up fairly quick. I've tried changing the Channel to multiple channels but nothing.
Any reason why?
Thanks for quick response if anyone could help me before I have to leave for work which is pretty soon =P
really?
*bump*
Could I make it work with bluetooth tether?
(is it supported through another rom or something)
I'm n dire need of an unlock code since I can't tether if anyone can help me get one through T-Mobile ( since I don't know anyone with a T-Mobile account) please PM me please. I'm in need of one.
Can you see your tether from another machine? (like laptop or desktop)
Perhaps your G1 send out a hidden signal (not broadcasting)
In that case you should try directly editing the WiFi name and manually adding (without finding the WiFi network) the settings.
Also you could try to make your G1 "unhidden".
Just some thoughts...
"I tested my tether out on a separate HD2 and it seemed to pick it up fairly quick"
It decided to show up today. Thanks Wilco.
Have bought Archos device to use my HD2 as a source of internet, but till now there is no chance to make A70 see HD2 as Wi-Fi router (have tested Galaxy Tab - the same result, device do not see HD2). Tethering via BT is also failed - Archos is paired with HD2 but not connected.
Is there any solutions how to make Archos working through HD2 connection to Internet?
Works for me running froyo on my hd2
Yes, I know that it is possible while running Android, but I wanted to have one device with WP and another one with Android.
Have received info from WiFi Analizer app that HD2 is using Ad Hoc that is not supported by Android yet , so no chance for me. So will try to use BT thethering which is also not simple with Leo.
Is there anybody who succed to make work internet through BT thethering - have paired and once I succed to connect both devices, but even then browser failed to load pages
Make sure you're not trying to connect in the bluetooth setting - once its paired click on the 'tether' tab and assuming the apn details that you entered are correct it should just work
Bluetooth tethering works fine for me. I have Htc Hd2 on wm6.5 just put tmobile in apn settings should work was able to use it the other day to watch nfl on slingplayer. if i recall correctly i just paired it via bluetooth first then i went to the bluetooth tether and checked it on. try that.

I'm doing right the same, but tethering fails everytime
already updated to 2.2? my A101 didn't connect with tethering first.
My new Touchpad don't seem to support ad-hoc wireless networks. It don't see them or let me join them by entering the SSID (network name) and password. Is there any software I can add or configuration change I can make to change this? I have a Windows Mobile cell phone that can share its connection over wifi, but its ad-hoc only and I use WEP.
Any ideas on what to do about adhoc networks? Any hacks or sideloaded software, if no official apps?
This KILLED me. I bought mine over the weekend while I was on vacation and the hotel had a catch-all page so I couldn't get through registration from that network. I figured no big deal and turned on my hotspot (Moto Photon) and it wasn't showing up. I configured a wifi shared connection on my laptop and it didn't show up. I thought I was insane! Ended up getting annoyed and driving up the road until I found an open network without a catch-all... My wife drove while I scanned for a connection. I know for a fact that they work with the Palm Pre's shared connection. What's up with the haterade HP?
I have an original droid and have this same issue as I understand cyanagen mod allows you to create a non ad hoc WiFi but I can't get a clear answer on this
So far I could not find an app or hack to allow the Touchpad to connect to an adhoc wifi either. I too have a WM phone (HD2). Unfortunately there is also no app for the WM phone that would allow it to broadcast infracstructure (non-adhoc) wifi.

I had this problem also, but you can still make it work. Goto your networks wifi setting and flip the auto switch and wait. It takes some time (almost 5min for me) but it'll pickup the ip address and finish loading the setup pages.
I am trying to use my TP with the wifi from my Touch Pro 2. Any help would be appreciated.
This is a real let down, no ad-hoc support. And our WinMo phone and Motorola Triumph do not support Infrastructure mode.
SoftAP appears to be a requirement to tether with android phones.
Unfortunately my Galaxy Spica does not have this so until some wonderful magical person creates an app/patch which allows the Touchpad to Bluetooth tether or utilise ad hoc wifi networks my tablet will be housebound
also need help with HTC HD2 on winmo 6.5 tethering adhoc with touchpad.
i guess the more realistic solution will be HD2 running android?
For you rooted android phone users http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238382
I'm really annoyed about this. One of the main things I thought of when buying the touchpad was to tether it to my winmo phone and browse the internet on the move. I hope someone creates a patch soon to enable adhoc wifi.
Really disapointed that I can't tether my iphone 4 to my touchpad.
For the price I can live without gps, sd/micro sd card slot, usb but the not being able to tether this thing is a deal breaker for me.
All I wanted to be able to do with my touchpad is tether for mail, browse the web, music, and be able to watch movies and it seems this thing falls short on everyone of the fronts.
I wonder if its likely anyone will release a patch for WebOS to allow it to recognise and use AdHoc networks?!
Just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Spica to 2.2 Froyo using kitchen - Enabled portable Wi-Fi Hotspot from the settings menu and now it works perfectly (open or with WPA2 PSK encryption)
Appears this was the only way to get it to work for me as the touchpad was not detecting the adhoc connection on 2.1.
for those with the HD2, try using MCCM HD v6 DESIRE ROM. I can tether to my touchpad with no problems.... first try, no setting tweaks or anything...
Through my searching it was my understanding that Ad-Hoc support could be injected to the touchpad, is there any progress on this front to make it more user friendly? It was pretty heavy linux speak.
Most of the threads I've seen are focusing on Android development for support. What about the webOS side of things?
This is what I'm referencing:
webos-internals
.org/wiki/Ad-Hoc_Networking*
Is there some reason this isn't a viable option? the signal issues? Seems if the method is there than all that it needs is to be more user friendly...

I tried what was described in the thread a few days ago. Ran into issue when trying to execute
/usr/sbin/wifidriver -i
no such file exised....
I have a Samsung Charge with Gummybear. I could not tether at first. I went to the tethering settings and changed the profile to a Samsung Fascinate. Then changed the Setup-Method to softap for Samsung (master). This did not work at first then I shutdown (using the task manager) the tethering app and restarted. Turned my wi-fi on the touchpad off, then on, and my SSID came up. Clicked connect and went to access control and approved my touchpad connection. Now it works.
Hope this helps someone.
Just a heads up for anyone using an iphone 4 with their touchpad.
If you upgrade to ios 4.3.3 or later you can enable wifi hotspot and this hotspot will thether with the touchpad without issue.
I was running ios 4.1 trying to use mywi without success and then decided to try this method and works like a charm.
Hi,
I have read all the posts regarding the inability of ICS on the prime to access ad-hoc networks. I have tried all those 3rd party software (Barnacle, Wifi Tether beta 3.11 - tried to select different phones, pdanet on my Moto Atrix and mywi on a jailbroken Iphone 3GS) and my TP just does not see the ad-hoc network. There is a work around to modify wpa_supplicant (in one of the posts), but don't want my TP to be rooted. I think all these is happening due to ICS since on Honeycomb there was no problem. One of the posts indicated that ICS disables ad-hoc network since they are using WIFI Direct and don't know how that is implemented or used with the TP and able to connect to wifi devices (maybe like phone running a wifi tethering software, don't know)
Other people got it to work and for me, for whatever reason just does not connect my TP.
Another problem I have, is when I use bluetooth with my Atrix, it is indicated paired but not connected and whatever I do, when I click on the phone, the only option I have is rename or unpair, and my suspicion is, my bluetooth never connects to my phone. I tried my bluetooth headset and is connected properly (indicates media and phone connected) and I can hear my music play on my TP. Never works between my phone and TP.
If anybody is kind enough to share their thoughts or even a fix for this, would gladly appreciate it.
Thank you.
I fixed mine by using a custom ROM for my phone with a baked in Wi-Fi tether ie Sprint hotspot or Verizon's hotspots as these work just fine with tether.
I had success with the Open Garden Wifi Tethering app (available on the Android Market).
I have a Thunderbolt and have used Barnacle and Wifi Tether in the past for tethering to my laptop, but neither of these Apps worked with the Prime.
Tether
I also have the TP and a Samsung Intercept vm rooted, wifi tether and Barnacle both don't show up.
Why is this so difficult?
Just installed Open Garden, willsee when my TP gets back from repair (waiting on part! Hope itz a new radio!) Sent it in for weak wifi
theres already been a 20some page thread about this. ICS doesnt have a method to see ad hoc networks. some phones can broadcast in infrastructure, some cannot. Me personally, upgrading to ICS on my Verizon Rezound seems to have fixed its ability to broadcast in infrastructure, and where i was screwed before I am no longer.
I haven't tried adhoc, but it works fine if I turn the wifi hotspot on.
I'm using a custom ICS rom on a T mobile HTC Sensation.
If you have read all those threads - then there is no need to start another one.
XDA, you really are my last hope.
I use my phone as my primary internet device. Tethering works fine for 15 mins and then one of two things happens:
1) Computer doesn't load webpages (stuck on looking up....). Have to turn my computer's wifi off and on again.
2) Tethering is still 'on' but the hotspot vanishes (have tested this on more than one computer) have to turn wifi off and on again.
Problem number two is by far the most frustrating but both are seriously annoying as I cannot play online games or download files and my girlfriend work is constantly interrupted.
I have tried:
1) using FoxFi - Works but same issues as native tethering software.
2) Rooting and using barnacle, wifi tether, OpenGarden WiFi (get 'could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: op. not supported on transport endpoint.)
3) Turning off fast dormancy (no difference).
4) Setting Wi-Fi to always on.
5) Turning off Wifi Power save mode.
6) Searching google, asking reddit, searching XDA, crying.
If you can fix this once and for all, I'll send you $10 over paypal (if that's not against the XDA T&Cs). I'm a poor student, but I am THAT desperate.
Many thanks.

Last one.
I don't have a solution for you, but I can share my experiences regarding the same problem you are having. I also tether a lot and for that, this phone has been awful thus far. I have pretty much given up on wifi tethering for now and am tethering using bluetooth since that seems to be working MUCH better for me. So do give bluetooth tethering a try too if it's possible for you.
I get random drop outs in my mobile data connection - this happens all the time, also when I'm not tethering. I have been trying out different modems to help with this, and now I have found a modem that works pretty well for me. I'm using XXDLIB firmware (Jelly Bean) and have found that the modem that works best for me is XXDLI4.
Maybe through additional testing of different modems I would be able to find one that works even better, but I've been doing this for a long time now and getting pretty tired of it!
Wifi tethering for me on DLI4 modem is now OK - not great, not even good - just OK. It feels much slower than bluetooth tethering and is still unreliable so I go with bluetooth for now.
Sorry if this wasn't helpful at all...
