LED HACK FOR DUMMIES (NEEDS ROOT!)
Download the roustabout's file with browser from http://www.mediafire.com/?vy7did6ulb1vrkv and unzip with file expert.
Install script manager from market, browse to ledkill , and open it as a script. Set ledkill to run as root and save the settings (see screenshot 1).
Install SMWidgets from market and make a widget (see screenshot 2), now ledkill is a switch!
Until you power down next (not shut off the screen, but do a reboot) the LED lights are out.
thanks for the tips.
it's work like a charm
Did Not Work
Followed the procedure /made widget/etc. but when I run the script the LED's stay on all the time!! What did I do wrong?

you need to have root first.
An easier way is to download the script file, extract it using a file browser, then open it as text file copy contents, use app called ROM Toolbox to create a script then paste it in. Save it. Tap script then the Run button. After it says successful you have to lock the screen, otherwise the buttons will stay on temporally.

error
Hi, I'm getting an error message (see attached screenshot)
What's your take on it? I am rooted, followed your scrnshts, and the unzipped file is saved on my external SD
Any help would be great. Thanks!
Btw, I am currently running 4.04 on AOKP build 40, TWRP recovery
Try running the 'mount' command in a terminal. Does it have a line saying something about 'sysfs' and '/sys'?

Geniusdog254 Posted the exact lines in the build prop that needed to be changed. This is a pretty common fix for problems like this between versions of Android. There was some concern however that you may miss some of the newer apps released only for Froyo. I wrote some simple scripts that will fix this for us.
Simply: One puts the Froyo build.prop on your phone. The other puts the modded build.prop on your phone.
Prerequisites
YOU MUST HAVE GSCRIPT INSTALLED
YOU MUST HAVE BUSYBOX INSTALLED
(IF YOU ARE USING PAULS FROYO ROM FROM HERE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686631
IT DOES NOT HAVE BUSYBOX INSTALLED
Also--
There are now 2 downloads.
One will reboot your phone automatically
One will not!
(I recommend this one for anyone that has problems, or doesn't know ADB well.)
Installation
Code:
Download the attached .zip file
Place the "buildprop" folder in the root of your sdcard
Place both "Normal_Froyo.sh" and "Modded_Froyo" files in the gscript folder on your sdcard
Code:
Open Gscript
Press menu and select Add Script
Press Load File button
Select Normal_Froyo file
Press Save button at bottom
Repeat for Modded_Froyo file
After that all you have to do is open gscript and select which one to run.
Normal_Froyo will give you stock froyo build.prop and let you see froyo only apps
Modded_Froyo will give you the market fix build.prop
You can also create shortcuts directly on your homescreen for each script if you wish
-----------------------------------------------
I've decided to skip the update.zip, I've found no way to copy the scripts to the gscript folder on the sdcard this way.
I'm going for an app instead.
P.S. I've never written an app before, java looks like russian to me lol. So if anyone has any tips, or knows any good tut's let PM me and let me know.
------------------------------------------------
fixed no buildprop folder
added NON-autoreboot download.
buildprop switcher v0.3.zip ORIGINAL
buildprop_switcher_no_rebootv0.3.zip NO REBOOT
buildprop swticher v0.3.1.zip DOWNLOAD THIS ONE
When the file is unzipped, there are 4 files - No Buildprop folder. Now I get the part about putting the two .sh files into Gscript folder.
Do I make another folder called buildprop and put build.2.1 and build.2.2 inside?
OR
Do I put build.2.1 and build.2.2 onto the root of the SDCARD?

So sorry lol Didn't notice until I was making the update.zip that I didn't put the other files in a folder IN the zip. Just make a folder on your sdcard called buildprop. and put them in there.
BTW testing the flashable update.zip method right now

Right.. the checkin service runs on each reboot. So it is not needed.
Worked just fine, but I did have to do the checkin thing. Possibly had poor signal but checkin hadn't done on reboot. Worked fine after that...

Can the checkin method be used, instead of rebooting? I'd much rather switch back and forth via checkin rather than having to reboot.
Thanks.

The reboot is built into the script. On my phone, if I checkin, the apps still don't show till I reboot. But show if I only reboot. If checkin alone works for you though, you can remove the reboot command from the script.
I'm not sure what happened, but after following the instructions exactly, my phone crapped. It got as far as the first nexus logo (non-animated), then the buttons lit up and I got a black screen. And that's how it stayed.
Any ideas?
This worked great for me I also solved my (unrelated) prob with SlideIt by forcing the dictionary to save in the settings, so I'm no longer bothered about losing shortcuts stuff on a reboot.
Dandy!!
tested again with a second n1. works perfect! automated checkin works perfect.
Can you please post what changed in the .prop file.
Also you didn't add the video codecs in the "new" prop file

The only thing I changed from the stock to the "modded" build.prop were these 2 lines
from this
ro.build.description=passion-user 2.2 FRF50 38042 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF50/38042:user/release-keys
to this
ro.build.description=passion-user 2.1-update1 ERE27 24178 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.1-update1/ERE27/24178:user/release-keys
I didn't add anything else to these. If you would like other things added to the build.prop files. You are welcome to edit them yourselves, or let me know what things you want changed, and I can include them.
I can make it user friendly. With descriptions for each modded line, then you can simply un-comment the options that you want.
PS: I thought I had the flashable update ready, but the update-script is giving me problems. ANYONE that wants to help please let me know. I'd really like to get this out to everyone.

To anyone that can't get thier phone to boot all the way after doing this
Its not a big deal. Your phone booted. But the build.prop didn't get copied before the reboot.
If you did a nandroid before you tried it. Restore that!
If you didn't, OR you know how to use adb. Do this
Code:
adb remount
adb push [COLOR="red"]/path/to/build.2.1(or)build.2.2[/COLOR] /system/build.prop
adb reboot
I hope to have this fixed quickly.
ANYONE WHO'S PHONE WILL NOT BOOT AFTERWARDS!
Check and make sure you put the files in the right place.
build.2.2
&
build.2.1
go in
build.prop FOLDER ON YOUR SDCARD
that was the only reason I got the error, i deleted the files off my card when i was testing the flashable update.
If you still get an error. open both files in the gscript folder, and remove or comment out the reboot line. Then tell me what error you get in gscript.
So I did this and am able to see the new apps. When I reboot the phone I cannot see a bunch of old apps in my launcher. I revert to the normal script and reboot again and still cannot see a bunch of my apps. Appbrain says theyre installed and I can open them from there but no widgets or shortcuts for them Any Ideas?

2. Manually Add Animations: should work for most roms
This process will be helpful for those wanting to mix and match animations from the folders. In fact, why don't you create your own mix and post it here so everyone else can appreciate your awesomeness. I'll add new mixes below if they come in.
-Simply get a hold of the anim folder with the animations you want to use and the framework-res.apk from the rom you're interested in modifying (/system/framework/framework-res.apk).
- Open up the framework-res.apk in 7zip (right click on it, and select "open archive").
- Drag the anim folder with the animations (which you can download below) into /res folder in your framework-res.apk. This will replace the files currently in /res/anim.
- Exit out of 7zip.
- You now need to push the modified framework-res.apk onto the phone. You can do this by placing the modified framework-res.apk in the root sdcard folder, and entering the following into terminal emulator on your phone or using ADB when the sdcard is mounted:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
If you're using terminal emulator, your phone will probably reboot before you finish re-mounting and/or typing reboot.
If you want to install the framework-res.apk that you just made in CWM recovery you can put it in this .zip make sure to put your framework-res.apk in the framework folder for this to work Your anim .zip
3.ninjamorph insatll find it in the market.
- create a new project of your framwork-res.apk.
- on your sdcard put the anim you want in this folder but first extract the folder out of the .zip first. (sdcard\androidthemes\workspace\framework-resapk\res\anim)
- make a copy incase you dont like the altered animations!!!
-replace the folder attached with the one in this zip
-go back to ninjamorph and finish project your phone should automatically reboot and there ya go animations are changed.
These will work with any rom and any phone enjoy
If you have any prob please post witch animation you used, that did not work so i can look into it.
BlurAnimations.zip
Bounce.zip
Custom my set up.zip
My set up 2.zip
Drop in.zip
Flip1.zip
Flip2.zip

The custom one. I had just installed .5 though so I just did a reinstall and I was fine. Maybe I'll try again later tonight. I really liked the animations in the doctored version of SC you posted originally. Maybe I'll just pull the /anim file and replace the one in my framework-res though. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful. I really appreciate the work you put into these. I just wanted to post a warning in case there is something specific to the AOSP Froyo that would keep this from working.
Edit: Just tried again in MM and it worked fine. I must have messed it up the first time. Thanks again for the awesome animations!

I did also try "Flip 1" and even after reboot it seemed to do absolutely nothing but change my background, that might have been MM's fault who knows.

Have you guys seen the Gingerbread Screen Off Animation that looks like a TV turning off, with the line and a small flash (not sure exactly how to describe it). And when i say "screen-off" i mean by tapping your power button, not holding it in to power down, but to turn-off the screen and lock the phone.
It might be kinda stupid to some, but i think it's pretty neat and unique...
possible?

I am using apk manager to compile/decompile the entire .apk file but that is kind of annoying.

updated 2nd post
This is a guide I've compiled to simplify Androidiani theming on the XT720. Took me forever to read posts & work through trial & error... credit to Kalagas & Zepplin Rox for the majority of this post, I just compiled into one guide.
------------------------------------------------------------
1st install Open Recovery
If you already have open recovery, but not andriodiani, download Androidiani to your desktop.
Open the zip & copy the “open recovery” folder to your sdcard root (copies over all previous OR files).
Copy the “update.zip” file from Androidiani to your sd card root & leave it there (nothing else to do with this file at this point).
Then boot your phone into recovery (power up, when 1st boot animation appears, hold down the ‘volume up’ key).
You should have the androidiani menu above the standard OR menu.
Just reboot your phone to normal operating android os.
Download the desired theme to your desktop from theme developer.
Use windows/linux via usb to create the following folders on your sd card, you have to create the folders manually the 1st time, 1-4 below:
1) sdcard/OpenRecovery/theme/froyo/apps/All modded .apks
2) sdcard/OpenRecovery/theme/froyo/bootanimation/empty
3) sdcard/OpenRecovery/theme/froyo/fonts/empty
4) sdcard/OpenRecovery/theme/froyo/framework/framework-res.apk
Open the theme zip & copy the files to their respective folders you just created.
OK lets go for it....
Reboot into Androidiani OpenRecovery . (power up, when 1st boot animation appears, hold down the ‘volume up’ key).
Just to be sure make Wipe cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik-cache.
Then choose Froyo 2.2.1 Modding Menu - Menu Install and Restore Theme - Install Theme, pick the install option and let it finish.
After Theme is installed, make again Wipe cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik-cache and Reboot.
You should have your new theme up & running.
Go Pack Go!
Do you have any links to some themes?
Only one I know of is Khalpower's MiuiXT... it is pretty sweeeet!

What am I supposed to install the update.zip file? Just copy it the the sd card root and leave it there? Or is there a menu option in Androidiani/OR that I'm supposed to choose? Little confused at that point. I can reboot into Open Recovery and there's a multicoloured droid in the background (as opposed to a straight green one).

I did indeed get it working sort of, Thank you! I lost access to the menu that pops up when you hit the power button (the shutdown/airplane mode). The phone would just power the screen down and then rebooted immediately.
As such I'm going back to square one and reflashing it back to 2.1, and try upgrading to 2.2 again. Not as bad as it sounds... since my 32GB class 10 sd card arrived this morning.
G.
P.S. I re-read my original message and it came off sounding a bit rude, please attribute it to lack of sleep and accept my apologies.

As such I'm going back to square one and reflashing it back to 2.1, and try upgrading to 2.2 again. Not as bad as it sounds... since my 32GB class 10 sd card arrived this morning.

So... is there any reason to not use androidani? Any reason to stick with vanilla Open Recovery? (I'm on the fence and haven't tried androidani)

The Androidiani Open Recovery is a modded version of OC, It just adds additional functionality. No reason not to use it IMHO.

Try copying this file to the root directory of your sdcard.
If that doesn't work try using the Install option in Dexter's System Recovery app.

you have another solutoin offer??
Hi all, i tried really hard to run link2sd on a stock firmware (no custom roms, kernels, etc)
and i found a "solution" for it...
Thanks to: neo1234matrix
If you already got link2sd working in froyo, then you need to do this "one time only":
1. Install script manager from market
2. run the script manager...
3. go to: menu>more>advance options> config > select browse as root
4. give the root permission to it...
5. now click the file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
6. select "run as root" and "run at boot"
7. save it and reboot your phone
8. after reboot, start Link2sd... you are done....
After all of this, you can use link2sd without doing anything else
Important! :
Every time you reboot your phone (turn off and turn on) you will notice that all the linked apps disappear from your home screens, app drawer, installed apps lists, etc as if they weren't installed, but dont worry.
Start link2sd and click menu button>more>quickreboot and all the "missing apps" are going to be available again for all your needs!
Maybe someone can figure out an easier way, real solution or something?

Hey!
Dont worry, you can ALWAYS flash back to stock firmware. But its you choice of course.

updating the thread with a temp fix
That's good news! Link2SD is the best, App2SD scripts also work fine but they've higher battery consumption. Thank you so much for sharing the workaround!
Hey!
Just wanted to say, that its not working with FirstUA-ROM-v.1.2. And the First... v.1.1 and v.1.2 have problems. Cant restore apps in Titanium. It sayes that all patch processes are DONE, but if I look in apps, there nothing. And the Titanium is processing them TOO QUICKLY.

Yeap, TB actually processed them too fast. What I did was restoring again until it processed properly. I don't know why, honestly, but so it worked

Hey!
Thx for replay. I let it give a try next time. Already restored with nandroid to v.1.0
CHEERS!
Tested on S5830LUBKP8 and works.. but... the quick reboot its a bad thing..
maybe someone can do a better thing. =D
well.. THANK YOU!..
i know whats the problem... this new firmware includes # (deactivates the mounting script at boot)
in the new firmwares (at least the one i have, but i believe its on all the official firmwares):
in the init.rc file there is this line:
#service flash_recovery /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
#oneshot
in froyo that line was:
service flash_recovery /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
oneshot
i already editing init.rc with root explorer (text editor) to delete the #, but when i restart (normal) the phone, it rewrites the old init.rc with the # included
if we could edit and keep the init.rc file without the # in those lines, link2sd will work as good as froyo without scriptmanagers or quickrebots
maybe someone can help me out?
just some (useless?) info.
In my phone its says in init.rc file:
#service flash_recovery /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
#oneshot
Dont know why it not say autoshot
ups, my bad, it is oneshot, i wasn't viewing the phone screen while typing this on the pc
i like link2sd.. would be cool of theres some permanent solution for this..
anyways thanx for the temp solution.. atleast now we know link2sd works on gingerbread..
Did not work for s5660 Samsung Galaxy gio with 2.3.3 stock rom
any other solution?
Can we modified the ROM of 2.3.4 about int.rc?

you can modify the file, but when the phone turns off- turn on, it will generate a new file (from boot.img)... the only way to get it right should be decompiling boot.img and editing that file and compile boot.img
but thats risky
Thank you! Not a bad solution! Works perfectly!

Ok, I have been trying for a while now to change the HTC lock rings and there is a really cool thread on here by mohit1234: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262990, anyway it has a heap of lock rings. Originally I could not put them on as he made them for a different phone model. So then I uploaded my fusion.apk and sent it to him. He made me custom lock rings with both the Earth and the Captain America Shield. So everytime i try to flash it to my phone nothing happens. So I made a copy of the .zip and extracted the fusion.apk and went to copy to the /system/apps directory with both "ES File Explorer" and "Root Browser Lite". But whenever I try to copy it the phone either crashes and restarts or says copy succesful and nothing happens. This also happens when I copy a droidsansfallback.ttf (modded with the emoji icons). But the font works when it says successful. Does anyone know what is happening? Mohit1234 also suggested to push using adb, would this help at all?
Do you have flar2's remove system write protection kernel mod installed and loaded?

No, I don't. How would I go about installing such a thing? Is that why the font keeps reverting every half hour?

You can find it here.
Without that patch, you can't muck about with /system
Total Crashing
Ok, I flashed a zip designed for my phone with the kernel you suggested, and my phone crashed twice (again) when copying the fusion.apk and the droidsansfallback.ttf doesn't even work when I copy it any more. Also when I plug it into my PC and choose "mount as hard disk" my phone crashes and reboots. So I am thinking I should just start again. I think I am going to flash hasoon200's "stock, rooted, deodexed" ROM.
I have tried to install this thing like 4 times, it is in my /system/lib/modules but I can't get it working. I have tried copying droidsansfllback.ttf modded with emoji into the /systom/fonts folder but when I restart it is reverted back to the old one. And seeing as I am new to this I can't decipher the instructions on how to install this.

Listen all you need to do is
Extract the fusion.apk from his zip and paste it manually using aroma file manager.
I did it using aroma and now you can see my lockscreen.

I have tried this using both "ES File Explorer" and "Root Browser Lite". Anyway where could I download aroma? I looked for it on Google Play but couldn't find it. If I find it I will try it, and yes I have extracted the zip and tried to copy it that way.
EDIT:
I installed Aroma, all went well with that and I copied fusion.apk as told to the /system/apps directory and bam when I restarted nothing happened, still stock ring. Can you send me the fusion.apk you used so I can try that, it would be greatly appreciated

I know, i installed it in the recovery and it opened up etc. BUT my system is still write protected when I reboot or startup my phone it reverts to its original /system state. which brings us back to how to install the kernel. In short Aroma doesn't work until I remove write protection. I may be a noob, but I know that this simply wont work.
Not true.

Post here the file he made for you or the updater-script, I take a look at it. Maybe the mount point is wrong for DX.

In recovery, mount system first before you start the Aroma File Manager.

Ok, aroma does work (I tried it with an emoji modded droidsansfallback.ttf) so that means that the fusion.apk is stuffed up. I have downloaded a desire x system dump and I am going to ask the guy to try and do it to that fusion.apk, thanks for the help everyone

Check your PM... I post a modded zip for you.
It's nothing wrong with the zip file that you posted. It flashed ok on my ROM
Your problem I guess is due to the stock ROM that you have where you do not have busybox installed.
So I mod the updater-script so it can be installed without busy box.
