[Q] Looking for the best stock-based rom - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
Been using MIUI , but suddently i wanted to start taking some nice photos, and since the MIUI/CM Based roms have a terrible camera quality the only option is to flash a stock based rom.
Tried a couple last night (Revolution and Simply Stock) and both didn't work. (had bootloop when the phone was trying to do something with a partition and, aparently, i had not enough space on the partition). So i'm now looking for a stable one. Would love if there was a GB stable one, but can't seem to find any :\
Also tried to flash back to the stock (eclair i suppose), but couldn't connect to my wifi spot neither update it using kies :S
Any help here would be great

im using project. very stable. try it...

zendroid is very stable. Has best battery life, stability, and working features out there imo. No need for eclair(2.1!?), just find a 2.2 rom.(bionic, bi-winning, project).
Look around, as there are MANY users like you who have no need to put up with unpredictable and battery draining 2.3 roms.

you couldn't flash another rom because you HAVE to flash back to stock jfd when coming back from cm7 or miui

I don't think ROMS have such an effect on Camera Quality. Most of them will be cool. Go for Bionix thats good.

Ultimate rom is nuts.

[Q] want to try a custom froyo 2.2

Hello folks,
I am some what new to the Android OS, I have a vibrant that has been updated with mini kies to the JI6 2.1 ECLAIR. I am anxious to try out Froyo. I thought I would wait awhile until the Devs could work out some bugs. I think that has happened by now. So I have three questions.
1. what is the most stable custom Froyo based ROM I can flash on my vibrant?
2. Is there a Froyo based ROM that already has mobile AP enabled for the vibrant?
3. Where (if possible) can I download a stock ROM of the vibrant? (Before you tell me to make one, know that mine is not stock, I have installed OCLF, and the JI6 update)
thanks for any help that can be given,
RAMROD

1. [ROM] Obsidian V2 - JK2 Official Froyo Based 2.2 - Team Whiskey - *11/08/10* Very stable for me
2. Yes [ROM] Obsidian V2 - JK2 Official Froyo Based 2.2 - Team Whiskey - *11/08/10* I think most of the Froyo releases have it now.

This is my preference, seems very stable and can be a daily driver. I imagine its going to have an update soon, we'll see. I don't like TW, if you do, perhaps try another version (eugenes or TWs Obsidian).

Mobile AP should be in there, Im charging so I can't check.

-- Wait the link was to a "True Stock" 2.1 rom, are you saying that is your current preference over Froyo?
-- Your aversions to TW... is that you don;t like them personally, or you do not like their roms?
^ HAHAA, Sorry, let me clarify:
I LOVE Team Whiskey. I HATE TouchWiz (TW).
The link is to Onyx. It is 2.2 without TW (TouchWiz). It flies on my Vibrant... no FCs, very stable. I imagine they are going to have an update soon but the good news is they are not wiping data now so you can flash R21, then R22 and not lose anything. If/when they release R23 I imagine that too will not wipe data so you can just flash right on top and not lose anything.
LauncherPro is more appealing to me, more customizable and it's faster. There is nothing I like about TW better than LP. I also hate scrolling left to right (I know there is an alt way, but LP is better for me). Look at the downloads/comments for Onyx (no TW) vs. Obsidian (the 2.2 version with touchwiz) and you will see an overwhelming majority prefer no TW.

So I installed bionics Obsidian 2.2 on my vibrant using Clockwork rom manager. Everything went smooth. It installed and booted just great, I really liked what I saw. Only problem I ran into was I had purchased a app before I flashed rom. After flash, it was gone.. not just off the phone but not in the market either. No big deal normally I would just go into market and click Downloads and there it would be. Not this time, cant even find it doing a search. I paid like $14 usd for it so I would like it. But its completely gone. Maybe it wont show it to me because of the new firmware?
Now, it is not there and my first instinct told me to re-flash... So I open clockwork and try and re-install. I locate file on SD.. But, instead of rebooting into clockwork, it reboots like its going to and reboots again but into standard recovery OS mode.
What would be the easiest way for me to re-flash this using a macbook?
Remember reading somewhere that the market installed was the european version so some paid apps would appear. However i can't seem to find the post that originally mentioned this issue. Anyone else remember if obsidian was using the european version of the market?
C to the L-O-T-O-R-I-O, U-S, you just, lay down slow.
If you have clockwork still installed (the answer is yes if you have a team whiskey rom loaded), if you get to the standard pre-loader, recovery mode, just select "reinstall packages..." That should get you into CwR

Just got onyx up on my phone, and damn.... You were 11O% correct about launcher pro.. Did you buy the full version?

Regarding apps... don't forget to get Titanium Backup and backup not only all your apps but also their data. I recommend the donated pro version for $5.99 which makes the backup/restore process completely painless and automatic. So after you flash a new rom if something like you describe happens you can just recover your app from your backup.

[Q] Which Custom ROM??

Hi,
I am currently running the below Custom ROM
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: 2.1.54
Kernel Version: 2.6.29 [email protected]#1
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-6.1.3 v4.5
Build Number: CM6.1.3 v4.5 [2.2]
So far I havent had any problems with it, but I'd like to know if I have chosen a good custom rom to install. I have searched through the forums trying to find information about which one gives best performance, which ones dont have problems with the camera etc, and to be honest it is easy finding this information.
Anyway, all I want to know is if I am running the latest version of Cyanogen if that's the best rom. If not which one would be better and is there a good guide to installing the ROM.
Also, I have definately ROOT'ed my x10 but I have noticed that I cannot access the /Data/Data folder using ASTRO or Ghost Command.
Sorry for rambling on but just want to know if I have made the right choice.
Thanks again.
u can try wolfbreak's rom its stable and pretty much one of the fastest around
Thanks. Where would I find this installation files/guide for this, and also would I need to change my BaseBand??
I've been using Wolfs rom for quite a while, but the lack of tethering and the relatively unsatisfying battery life started bothering me so I've been using the EWJet for two weeks now.
Great 2.1 Heavily modified ROM, works smoothly and my battery lasted 3 days with several phone calls and light browsing under 75% brightness.
It's a matter of taste though.

Nope you dun have to change your baseband since wolf's rom works with .54 already
installation guide on his thread itself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945264
Just follow instructions for fresh install
and if theres anything wrong just check his second post for faqs.
Anyway tethering works with barnacle and battery usually last 2 days+ for me with some heavy browsing, its depends on how you use your phone i guess
I have used the rom wolfbreak is very stable and he's always updating her ta ..
Even though it's not quite uploaded yet but check out tripnraver's 1.2.0. By all accounts it's gonna be sh1t hot!

Any Froyo ROM will have working camera, Gingerbread ROMs don't have the proper drivers fully functional yet. I know Trip and J have theirs working for VGA but that's about all.
Had too many battery issues with Trips ROMs and Wolfbreak has good stuff, but again, same issues with battery. Probably just me.
rdannar's AOSP Froyo ROM works very well, very fast, and battery gives me no problems.
well i ve tried a few since my baseband is also the same as urs.. cant figure which one really is the best outta the lot..
ive tried wolfbreak's rom n its damn fast n quite gud actually but as everyone's mentioned.. the battery is smwht of a problem..
trip's rom is quite gud 2 actually.. but agn it depends on taste..
As has been said..wolfbreaks rom is the best...
He will update to a new version in the next couple of days so it may be worth hanging on for that.
I have tested the new version (Using TW 007) and I can tell you that the battery is no problem at all. (24 - 36 hours with my normal use)
He has implemented the undervolt module (Which saves battery) and it has other tweaks that save battery.
You can also use the battery optimastion method from OmegaRed (The link is in my signature at the end of this post) which greatly helps with the battery. This can be used on any rom on the x10.
Yeah man, I'm looking for a good rom to use in my X10 as well. I'm having a big problem in changing my baseband (mine is 46) to 52/55/whatever, but I'm searching the forum to resolve it.
By the roms that I've seen around, I liked Cyanogen's and another that I can't remember right now, when I come home I'll write it down =P
I don't mind having a battery life of a day and half or so, don't have to be a 3-day long-life duration...
As soon as I find out what I'm doing wrong with the baseband issue, I'll start testing roms and then I post a righteous answer

You can get your desired baseband from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960527 .
You can flash your baseband with flashtool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746 .
There is a guide out there for flashtool too.
For me, i tried:
Trip's roms. They are awesome but not for me thou.
Wolfbreak's roms are stable and it have a good battery life.
EWJet is one of the best I've used but it's based on Android 2.1
And currently I'm on J 's CM7. Working great so far, satisfied with it and probably will stay with it until new roms surface again
Yesssss man =D
I didn't have the xRec installed, I guess that was the problem. Updated bb to .55 and installed Cyanogen 6.1.3 Gingerbread. AWESOME!!!
I don't know about the rest of the roms out there, but this one is perfect for me, almost everything is 'tweakable', just loved it.
Erickwill's ROM is easily the most fully functional and fastest, because it is native 2.1 so everything works.
It makes 2.1 seem like 2.3, it's that good, and it was updated to use the new baseband as well.
Running CM 6.1.3 Froyo 2.2.1 Very stable on my Xperia

please select your favorite ROM from 18 ROMS, and share your rom report

maybe you have used many ROM for your i9100,please poll your favourite, and tell us your use report about rom.THANKS
the following is the history of my use about rom:
lite'ning 3.0---CM7 nightly 1-15---villainROM 2.4---Leomar75 2.4 and 2.5 ---cognition s2 1.4,1.4.2 ---sensatioN 1.2,1.3--MIUI1.8.12--Lite‘ning 6.0 xxkh1
i think no best rom, there are only some ROM that fit you~
stock rom.. im going to try MIUI rom and CM7 rom, once they get a little more finished, till then Villain rom is basically a stock rom, that comes prerooted
Rigth now villain but i think im keen to try cognition s2 as it seems to be pretty popular looking at your voting chart.
THANKS~~and you could try cognition 1.4.0 and 1.4.2
cognition 1.4.0 kernel ninphetamine 2.0.5
cognition 1.4.2 kernel speedmod k1-t22
beacuse first time cognition adopt speedmod kernel~when i using 1.4.2,i could feel some unstable~
so i recommend you could try cognition 1.4.0 and sensatioN 1.3
they are battery friendly
Revolution for me.
Was on stock for a long time, also tried Cognition and Villain for lengthy periods. Stability is important for me, so no CM7. Had nothing but bad experiences with MIUI, won't go near it again.
Stuck with Revolution because it was the first ROM without a laggy stock browser in KG6 (don't want a 3rd party browser), supports a monochrome theme bugfree, love the OTA kitchen and updates, and Leo is a great dev.
Liked Cognition and Villain too - two great devs - but found my keeper
Which rom ???? xx rom version 1 may be good version 2 may be better and version 3 may be worse .
This is not a vote on a rom just a vote on a roms name .
jje
Lite'ning, Batista70, Criskelo, Villain, Miui, Cognition, CM7, Leomar, tried all with differents Kernell. Some serve better than others, Criskelo stayed longer. Now back to Lite'ning KH1-Speedmod-T22, fast and batery friendly.
I tried: CM7 nightly 20, MIUI, VillainRom, and Revolution so far. I voted revolution as it seems to be the most stable one for now.
prefer batista 3.5..super smooth
You want an option for 'no real preference'. I'm running villain but not through having done any comparisons or investigations. The kernel is the only interesting variable for me, not the ROM (other than making sure it is reasonably up-to-date)
yes~but i can't list all roms and all versions

What monochrome theme you using with Revolution, NitrozK's?
I'm with you on the monochrome mate...
no best,right~i like batista70
Cognition all the way - stock looking but amazing speed, clean, and bugless!!
Please add GingerMOD. I'm using this rom right now and it's the best of both worlds, aosp looks with the best of stock Samsung firmware. (ie. Camera, FM Radio, etc.)

Currently on Leo's modified Sikashi theme from his kitchen - it's excellent.
Haven't tried nitrozk's theme on Revolution yet - found it a bit buggy on Cognition, it's been updated many times since but work has now ceased.
Assuming that it won't work on forthcoming KH3, so no reason to change for me.
Baffled at the lurv for greens/blues/God-knows-what..

Have to say im surprised people are saying CM7, usually it most likely would come out on top if stable but it's far from stable at present and that's the reason i haven't flashed it, i want a stable build on my phone with everything working, Lite'ing ROM was the first i had a good it was but ive stuck with Cognition now for a while.

I don't understand how people are saying that CM7 is unstable, have you guys actually tried it? What problems have you had?
I've used it since version 12 and never had a problem with FC or rebooting. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't have bluetooth audio, but I knew that going in and I know it's high on the priority list for development.
Currently looking for a ROM with bluetooth to fill the gap until it's done though, as it's killing me not having the bluetooth for my car. But when that functionality is there, I'll be straight back.

I IZ NOOB. Which Gingerbread ROM should i install?

Hi,
I was thinking of installing a custom ROM on my Optimus One/P500 last year but decided not too and kept using the stock 2.1 ROM, until yesterday when i installed the root uninstaller app to remove some of the annoying default apps and somehow messed the phone up and now it won't start!
So now i wan't to install a custom ROM with Gingerbread, but there seem to be so many different ones with different specs that a n00b like me just isn't 1337 enough to understand.
I'm looking for a simple Gingerbread ROM without too many fancy add-ons, it should have the default Gingerbread theme, should run faster then and get better battery life then stock Android 2.1, and be stable enough for everyday use, please suggest which ROM i should install!
Nearly 90% of the official roms are uploaded with megaupload and those links are down

You should update to Official Gingerbread for Optimus One.
Better battery life? No way. Stock Froyo version has the best battery life. Any Gingerbread rom will drain your battery quick. The only advantage is that Gingerbread run more fast.
First update to official gingerbread for the new baseband..
follow this http://webtrickz.com/install-offici...te-on-lg-optimus-one-using-kdz-updater-guide/
and root it.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007244
and Flash Perfectpeso ROM its Good
If Gingerbread will drain the battery too much, what's a good user friendly and minimalistic Froyo ROM that will have better battery life then stock?
Also i seem to have messed up my stock ROM while trying to get rid of some default apps using the "Root Uninstaller" app from the Android market, It won't get past the 'ANDROID' title screen, Is it possible to install a new ROM without having to start the phone?
If you doesn't want to change baseband, you must search rom that works on the old one.
There's even a fix that made possible use the gingerbread ron on the old baseband.
Some roms (like nightlyfour by eeee616) has a old baseband version, other (like Perfectpeso by tretted) has linked the fix for old basebad by adfad666.
Bye!

You can flash custom recovery via LGMDP tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15217609&postcount=3
Then hang the three button combo Power+Home+Vol down till recovery opens and flash the ROM there.
If you want Froyo, I suggest you devoid #froyo-final .
But I don't agree with previous posts - I think, the battery in Gingerbread is much better than in Froyo.
Better use mik's CM 7.1 ROM. i had used it for almost 4 months with no issues. If you are a heavy user of 3g or 2g data, it is recommended that you upgrade your baseband for a slightly better reception, if not, stick to this baseband, and you can flash the recovery via LGMDP tool(link in the post above mine).
I have been using the latest CyanogenMod 7 after updating my phone with the official LG updater, re-rooting, installing Rom Manager, and it's great. Especially with this kernel

[Q] Little help with info with Roms

So I finally cracked and Rooted and installed safe strap for rooms a few weeks back. I've been running the Cyanogen JB rom since. As nice as the mod is, it just has to many bugs for me. I did remember to back up my original ICS, but I don't want to go back.
So a while back I saw people recommending Roms for stability, but can't find that thread what so ever, I've found the Dev thread on all the Roms available, but am looking for a JB rom that is stable, so any recommendation?
Also, just because I couldn't find an answer anywhere, when I install a second Rom on my phone, should i delete the Cyanogen mod and just use that partition and install the new Rom, or use one of the other partitions and then delete the Cyanogen mod partition?
Thanks guys
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174390
here is a stable rom. it's CDMA. for GSM flash gsm patch after flash rom, then reboot
for second rom just flash it onto second system, follow OP instruction
Try avatar rom. Seems like a pretty solid rom. Lots of cool features. Though it is based off of cm 10.1 so it may have the same bugs. But it is still worth a try.

I like the Liquid Smooth rom very much - stable, fast and good looking.
