Camera Sensor Caliberation - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hi Guys,
I am using MIUI rom 2.11.26 in my sgh i777 the problem is when i record videos outdoor the recording is perfect but when i record it in door under lights i see there is a black type of waves across the screen and it records with it any idea to caliberate the sensor.

that's a screen issue I use to get that after my third exchange the issue is minimal.

[Q] What App Turns off display when covered?

Hi guys, Ive heard about an app that will turn the display of the touchpad off when the display is covered (using official HP folio case). I am using the latest official CM9 nightly, I've tried searching for it but to no avail, any help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Liam
There isn't one, because it would constantly have to be on, and enabled, and scanning, so it would most likely kill your battery more than it would help.
There's a thread about this in the Q&A section asking the very same question, and that's the answer given there. However, if you can find a way to make it work, please feel free.
Actually there is its called smart screen of if I remembered correctly and no it does not take as much battery

Thanks for that I've just downloaded it and will give it a go and report back.
Many thanks
Liam
I sit corrected. Thank you for that. I'm glad to be proven wrong.
Did anybody get this to work? I've downloaded it and so far hasn't worked .....either that or the proximity sensor on CM9 isn't working
I couldn't get it to work either, I tried to apps both similar in nature but neither would work. Would be good if anyone has any luck getting it to work to post their set up on here so others could try it. I tried it on stock official nightly.

The app uses a proximity sensor usually located next to the earphone of most cellphones. To my knowledge the touchpad has no proximity sensor so it won't work. Very useful app on any device though.

You sure it doesn't operate using the camera? I remember one which operated using the camera hence would not work on cm9

the touchpad has a proximity sensor....its in the right corner of the screen the side where the camera is, visible if you hover a led flashlight you'll see a circular red thing glinting.

Never noticed that lol.
But don't these apps use front-facing cams?

hit thanks if that helped
the description for the app says it uses the prox sensor.....my guess is the sensor's drivers aren't on android for the touchpad yet
I don't think it's functional in android. It's not been a major priority. I tried a few apps that leverage the sensor, but to no avail.

I read this the other day and decided to use one called Case Switch. It uses the light sensor/ proximity sensor to determine if the light is low enough to turn off. Anyway, been using it for several days, love it! I recommend setting your lower min at 48lux. This setting allows for the screen not to turn off under evening low light settings. When I got this on Sunday the 24th there was a free demo and the pro version was $1.00.
Like I say, it works very well and its an excellent addition to or already amazing tabs.

I don't see any app in the marketplace called "Case Switch."
Edit: I'm assuming you meant Case Sensor? That app works perfectly for the touch pad.
Touchpad has NO proximity sensor, just an ambient light sensor for auto brightness. The small purple dot next to the volume rockers.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Problems

Hi.
i have a few problems with my new SGS3. firstly, when i record a video or take a photo there's a lot of noise no matter how good lighting conditions are. i have tried different settings but nothing changes. also, i have updated the phone to the latest firmware, again, nothing has been fixed.
on to my second problem. the screen has black dots on a solid black background. i believe this is a common problem with the S3, but is it a software issue or a screen issue? my previous phone was a Google Nexus S and it never had black dots on it's super amoled screen.
can anyone please help.

1) Your camera might be stuffed - hardware issue. Especially if you can't get a decent pic outdoors. Have seen it on the S2. A mates phone was blurry no matter what.
2) As far as I know most if not all S3's have this issue, but unless you stare at a black screen in a dark room you'll never notice it.

i can see the black dots in a light room. also, the camera is fine outside it's just indoors that it has problems with.

Screen off during call problem

Screen turns off when placing phone to ear as expected however does not come back on when pulled away. Only after the 2nd party disconnects will the screen come back on after pressing power button and the only to the lock screen. This is a new issue. Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution?

Maybe faulty proximity sensor. I had that issue in my galaxy nexus. Ended up getting a new one

I'll inquire with Verizon about that.

Call insurance. Get a new one or refurb for that matter.

Are you stock? Rooted? I ran into this issue a few times with persus kernel.
I'm having the same issue. Anyone find a fix for this?
Just got off the phone with Verizon. They're sending a replacement. Something wrong with proximity sensor. Actually appears to be a speck behind glass over sensor.

I have also been having a bit of trouble with the same thing. On top of the screen not always coming on when I move the phone away from my ear during a phone call, sometimes when I pull up the keypad while on the phone and attempt to press a key, the screen will turn off. I think it's because the shadow of my hand makes it think it's back up to my ear. I see two little sensors next to the camera; one of them appears to have a little speck or dot on it. Maybe a piece of dirt in it? Can somebody who doesn't have this problem check and see if they see a very very tiny dot on the sensor closest to the in call speaker?
I've been having the same issue with my Note 2, I was wondering if this could be a software issue since I have messed with a few roms but decided to go back to stock. I've been looking everywhere for a solution, even went as far trying to find replacement files to see if that would fix it, but to no avail. I guess I'll have to replace the device.

Have you received your replacement?
If you have, did they send you a certified like-new or a brand new replacement?
Thank you

I have found a fix for this, at least for me, as I mentioned in an earlier post I had flashed a few ROMs, decided to search the other carriers galaxy note 2 forums and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070360&highlight=proximity+sensor
Luckily there is a Perseus kernel for verizon too here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048013
Will do this later and report.
Edit: the perseus kernel by itself didn't do the trick but beanstown's stock root/deodex and jelly 'beans' roms did! I now have everything working like new with cleanrom installed

The CM10 proximity fix greatly helped the issue for me. Note: I am NOT running CM10. I am running stock rooted Jelly Bean.
[MOD] [CM10] Proximity Sensor Fix
I tested using Proximity Sensor Finder before and after. Before nothing happened, after it went from 9 to 0 when covered.

Does anyone know what will happen if I try flashing this through the stock recovery (Completely stock and unrooted) I've notice that if I get in to the recovery from the HBOOT and press the vol up I get the stock E3 recovery that will allow me to flash "update zips"
That fix relies on int.d support, in your case not being rooted it would not work.

I'm on CM10 and have never had any issues with the sensor. What are you guys talking about? (Not trying to be rude btw)

Makes noise when using Torch

My S2 makes this weird noise sometimes when using Torch. It sort of sounds like a buzzing. And as I'm typing this, it started doing it without Torch on. The sound is coming from where the camera and LED are at. When it does this, I just flick/thump on the spot and it stops making the sound. What could be the cause of this?
Sent from my i777 using xda app-developers app
It's the auto focus mechanism for the camera, not sure why it does it. Toggling torch off usually stops it or a reboot, doesn't seem to cause any issues with the camera, but it can cause a serious amount of battery drain if it stays active.

The warning specifically states that the unusual high power of the light frequencies may/may not damage your phone in some way, although maybe that's a problem they had not anticipated :/

True, but I never use it for more than a few seconds.
Sent from my i777 using xda app-developers app
It's been a while since I researched this but from what I can remember, all of the apps like torch that utilize the flash for a flash light activate the camera as well as the flash so the camera will try to focus even though you aren't trying to take a a pic. I have never figured out why my the camera focus mechanism flakes out one time but not the next seems to do it worse on certain rom versions than but I have never flashed backwards to see if the problem returned.

I have the smane problem.
It is a video from someone on youtube that have the problem too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toDlY8Txb4M
any one know how can fix it?
Thanks
It appears to be a mechanical issue with the camera's focus motor. It may need to be replaced if it really bothers you. I've heard some parts for the s2 are easy to repair yourself, but I don't know if this is.
