An issue I keep having with the music player (HTC Sense) is if I'm playing music for a while and then try to wake up the phone to do anything else, the phone freezes. The music continues to play but in order to stop it or do anything else requires a battery pull and reboot.
Anyone else have this issue?
Anyone discover a resolution?
Any recommendations on an alternative music player?
Will removing the default player cause issues with the OS?
I've heard of issues if you're underclocked with screen off. Is that your case?

My OC settings were 710/245 so I changed them to 710/528 and will see if that helps.
Here's an interesting problem for everyone to ponder:
My original setup was a stock rom with ryan's lag fix applied. My music played back just fine (WMA and MP3). Since I didn't backup my verizon apps correctly, I recently wiped everything and started over from scratch so I could get the latest update from Verizon. I gained root access again, and now, when I play music through any media player (stock app, winamp, mixZing, pandora, etc), there are noticeable skips in the audio every 15-20 seconds. I realize that pandora may be buffering, but there's no excuse for the others that are reading files from a class 6 microSD card.
Is this happening because I don't have a lagfix applied anymore? If that's the case, then it's incredible disappointing that a phone this powerful needs a hack to make music play back correctly. I don't want to install another lag fix, because, aside from the music, nothing seems to be noticeably slower on the device.
Any ideas?
I'd be interested to hear what solves this, as ever since I upgraded to DJ05 I have had the same audio skips, even on local content.

+1 on audio pops
I had audio problems on a lot of the kernels I've tried with this phone, but the jt stable voodoo 5 kernel doesn't have them. I did have them on his 11/25 version, and on still the greeknic versions I've tried.
It's definitely kernel related. I had that problem on geeknik's and jt 11/16. I'm on jt 11/11 now and I'm fine.

Someone on another forum had this narrowed down to the battery status polling, I think. Can't find the reference now...
Got stock kernal on my phone. No skips. I am rooted. Used to have skips on my last fascinate which I got replaced for the audio skipping problem.

Voodoo kernels don't seem to have the problem on the non voodoo try bumping min cpu to 200
take off your widgets to make sure it's not something simple. Battery widgets can do this
I did just install a new battery guage widget right around when the pops started... if that's the issue, i'm thanking you in advance. This has been quite annoying. I'll go kill the app for kicks here.
Brilliant!! The battery widget did the trick! For reference, I had the guage battery widget installed. Looked great, but caused the skips. Been listening to VBR MP3 now for 20 min and skips.

sorry, i meant to say 20 min and no skips

battery widget
Dittos on the battery widget issue. I was using Circle Battery, killed it and the skipping/popping stopped.
Interesting to know this is the cause of the issue but it's odd that it would cause that to begin with..poorly coded something I suppose.
If anyone's interested, I switched to "Battery Widget" by geekyouup, and it doesn't seem to be causing the pops and skips. Working fine so far.
No battery widgets here. I'm running a fresh StupidFast DJ05 and I'm getting static/popping in doubletwist. Anybody else?
I'm having this problem too, and I'm not running a battery widget. I've only noticed it since I started installing themes. So maybe it's a theme issue? I'm not entirely sure. Also the popping and crackling seem to occur more often when I'm actually doing input and output operations like clicking on apps and whatnot, than when my device is asleep.
EDIT:

This actually seems to work. Weird fix, I must say.

This is pretty pitiful. This is only Android phone I've had audio skip/pop issues on. It only happens when I'm running SysTray Monitor as my battery% display and my screen is on. If I have my screen off while using SysTray Monitor, it doesn't skip, and if I have SysTray Monitor off, I get no skips.
As soon as I turn my screen on with SysTray Monitor on, it starts skipping. I'm on DJ05
Didn't happen on my Epic, Moment, or Hero.
I definitely would not have marked this as "solved", because this is not a resolution.
it solved my problem, but i'll go ahead and change the title...
Widget size matters too for whatever reason. For me the 2*1 gauge widget did it but the 1*1 didn't
Pandora is by far my most used app but it still seems to suck on my phone even after using the pre-root GB, it does skip songs less on GB but it still takes 45secs+ to load a new song. It is not an issue so much on wifi but Spotify and Audiogalaxy load and play almost instantly over 3g and never skip or lag. Are there any known fixes for this? Would the vm heap size have any effect or is that only for files being played from the SD?
I saw this issue discussed some with froyo but I'm looking for other peoples results using GB.

Im having sorta the same issue where its skipping not just only on pandora I upped the heap size to 36 but have yet to test it. Ill post back if it makes a difference.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
It definitely improved from froyo to GB, it used to play about 30 seconds of a song and skip to another. Because it plays fine on wifi makes me think its a issue with it not getting enough speed on 3g but the fact that spotify and audiogalaxy both play flawlessly on their highest bitrate settings on the same 3g connection pretty much invalidates that theory.
Other people suggested using Pandora v1.3 on froyo for improvements but I'm not noticing much difference on GB.

I had some same issues, I would load pandora or slacker and get an error of "This video cannot be played." what I did to correct it is a wipe to factory from privacy settings, then reboot and powered down to recovery then wipe data and cache...no errors and both app works fine...but still has some minor sound skipping but that sounds like software from looking at the other threads.....best of luck, hope I helped
Anyone know if there is a way to stream music through stock browser so that it doesn't stop once the screen turns off? Leaving the screen on with lowest brightness setting still drains battery way to fast.
Please tell us what ROM or se firmware you are using along with baseband and if phone is rooted. That way someone else or me can help you better.

I'm using wolf's GB rom version 3.6 bb 71, I'm wondering if a script can be made so that it doesn't shut of music when screen times out.

You can either try seeing the screen timeout section has a never time out option or go under settings-applications-development-then hit the stay awake option.

thanx for giving me those suggestions but they don't solve my problem. I don't need the screen to stay on , i need the streaming music to keep playing when the screen times out, like it would happen when you listen to music on the music app. For some reason if you listen to something with an app you can still listen to it when the screen times out , but if its through the browser it stops playing when the screen times out.
I'm still having far too frequent audio skipping on 2.3.4. Is anyone else having this issue?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
I have had a skip here and there, but not anywhere remotely close to 2.3.3
much improved, but its still there
I get'em here n there, but nowhere near as bad as before on 2.3.3...much improved. I can definately live with it
I rock the Music 4 app, never have a skip, ever. I didn't have any skipping issues on Music 3 on 2.3.4 either though. Where is your music? Stored on your SD card? Or are you using some app like Pandora, or Google Music Beta? I only use Beta.

Is music4 the ics one from this forum?
Yessir it is. Much nicer UI IMO, no issues at all for me, so far.
I just got the Music 4 app but I experienced a few skips so I just went back to cubed music player. The Music 4 looks really nice but it would be great if they had a locked screen control like cubed or winamp.
The Music 4 app looked nice but didn't play nice with my music. It would group everything with "Greatest" or "Best" under one random artist. Doesn't do that on computer or other music apps so I had to use Music Player Pro.
What do you mean? Do you have a bunch of songs titled Track 1.. etc with no artist/album info?
The only thing that has helped my music skipping was choosing option 9 in the V6 Supercharger script. Before now I had only tried options 5, 6, and 7 because that's what it suggested and none of them worked. I chose option 9 and there is almost no skipping and the phone is much faster than it used to be.

What rom are you using, if any? I am using Eclipse 1.2RC1 with stock settings.

Have you tried running any roms, or even using Music v4? Not that we have many roms, but they typically have some scripts built in.

I haven't tried any other roms. I like the stock rom enough to keep using it instead of another rom except for the stock launcher. I think the stock launcher is to sluggish so I use Go Launcher. I prefer to change things on my phone as little as possible when it's doing what I want it to do. And right now it's running better than it ever has before. I've never tried Music v4 either. I've used Mixzing, Power Amp, and the stock player and all used to skip. Mixzing is the only one I really use.

I really feel this has to be an issue isolated to music stored on SD or Device. Streaming music on Music v3 and v4 from Google Music Beta I never ever have any skips or lags.

I must disagree with this.
I have had skips streaming slacker and pandora. And what really confused me was when I also get skips using FM radio. (And it wasn't static. It skipped and stuttered the same as my stored music)

I think it has more to do with how the tegra handles memory whenever the second core has to fire up. I think the dx2 was the test case for dual-cores & they must've learned that 512mb of ram really runs too tight for much multitasking. If you notice, the whole industry learned from this cuz I doubt you'll find any dual-core available today with less than 1gb of ram. This is just my opinion of things tempered by a little experience with this phone.

Very true. When I got this phone and later found out the ram was 512 I was confused. It would be really nice if there was a way to add in more ram like u can do with a computer pull it apart. Add in a few micro chips or whatever and be good to go lol

I wonder if it would be possible to write a script that runs at boot that converts part of the internal storage to be used as ram. Somehow make a ram partition on the SD card maybe.
