samsung galaxy s2 cyanogen mod 7.1.0 wifi problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have problem with wifi connection on this phone the wifi worked on stock rom and then on cyanogen for a while and now it stopped completely (its just trying to connect but It won't get IP. I have tried to switch off security on my router and use different wifi connections nothing has worked

I'm trying to update my dad's phone and I'm having the same issue. It fails to connect after saying "Authenticating". I've double checked everything, still no dice.

I'm on CM7.1 too and my Wi-Fi is not working, but the story is slightly different, check my thread for more info

It seems linked to the fact that you may use multiple AP / have multiple AP profiles.
For instance, I have 2 wifi AP at home (private / public), and if I forget the public one (using it rarely), I don't have the stucked following message : "Authenticating" / "Obtaining IP address" / "Connecting"
Several users reported this, don't know if it will work for you.

Yeah, I was answering to the OP because I had a similar issue.
Yours seems more complex, I'm afraid I can't help much.

[Q] What the heck.

When I got my 70S a few weeks ago, everything was working great. I installed the latest firmware that was suggested right when I first booted and connected to WiFi, then installed market from one of the packages floating around here, installed some stuff... everything worked fine, I could see all of my network shared files through the built in file manager, etc... only I installed the wrong version of the gapps addon and so I couldn't get the YouTube app to work. So I found the right one, and wiped the device to install it properly. After the wipe, the Archos stopped connecting to my WiFi network. I didn't even install the addon yet; it was connecting, start loading a page in the browser, and then get stuck halfway through. If I connect to a different network, an open one, it works. But my network - no go. Shared folders don't work either.
Now I've read that there are some issues with the Archos and my router (a D-Link DIR-615), but the damn thing worked like a charm before the wipe! I tried everything. I tried wiping again (twice), I've tried disabling the powersave option, I tried installing urukdroid - I always get the same result. After connecting, it would load one page (google) and then the connection would hang, and load no more.
Anyone have a solution?.. Maybe some router settings? I've tried changing everything and anything that may be relevant, but nothing seems to have any effect of it. Help!
Have you tried -
1) Hard reset on your router and reconnecting?
2) Disabling the security on your router, forgetting the router in wifi manager, then reconnecting?
I tried forgetting the router, naturally. However, I did not try to hard-reset the router yet... I'll try that, thanks.

[Question] MiniCM7-2.1.9 wifi not working

I'm on the latest nAa kernel, using MiniCM7-2.1.9, but wifi just doesn't work. I can browse the internet using my 3G connection, just not wifi for some reason.
Wifi shows it's connected, the signal bars is full but it just doesn't download any data, it's like it's not connected at all. It's able to get an IP address and the link speed is good but it just doesn't get any data.....
I've tried searching through different posts and tried solutions such as:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21766413&postcount=498
as well as the instruction to fix wifi in the Troubleshooting page here:
http://code.google.com/p/minicm/wiki/Troubleshooting
and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22170822&postcount=817
I also cleaned the dalvik cache by going into recovery, reboot and still doesn't work.
and they all don't work....
UPDATE:
OK nvm it works now. I reflashed the kernel, wipe data & factory reset and then reflash the rom, and now it works. It's the exact same thing I did for the past 30 mins, except this time I also reflashed the kernel. I just hope it'll continue working.....
UPDATE 2:
Ok, now it's not working again. I rebooted the phone twice, and it was able to connect to wifi no problem. But then later on it stopped working again, I didn't install or change anything either.
I also noticed that whenever I'm connected to wifi on my phone, the wifi on my PC will timeout and drop connection. If I then try to connect wifi on my PC, then the wifi on my phone will timeout. Basically, I can't connect both at the same time.
But all my other devices work fine. My Motorola Milestone and my mom's HTC Desire Z works fine. My iPod Touch works fine, I've NEVER had a wifi issue with any of my devices until I tested out my new Xperia X10 Mini Pro today.......
I haven't tried testing it on stock rom & kernel, because the first thing I did was to unlock the bootloader and flash the nAa kernel + MiniCM7-2.1.9. And I can't be bothered flashing back to stock since I won't be staying on stock anyway, especially after setting up everything already so I can't really be bothered.....
Anyway, so I then tried to delete wpa_supplicant.conf in data/misc/wifi (as mentioned above) and this time it shows "Error" under Wi-Fi settings.
This is really annoying me....
One note about wpa_supplicant.conf (/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf). In stock kernel with MiniCM Pro from paul-xxx the right ctrl_interface was wlan0.
nAa kernel (with MiniCM from nAa) needs tiwlan0.
So it isn't necessery to delete file with all wifi networks when changing kernel/ROM but one value in config file.
ya, except the value was tiwlan0 already, I tried changing it back to wlan0 and nothing happens. So then I tried deleting it, and now whenever I try to turn Wifi on it just shows Error.
What's actually strange about this is that I've backed up the original file, and when I restored it and tried to turn Wifi on, it turns on but doesn't display any network.
Before, it would display tons of networks, and it would connect to my router (but doesn't download data for some reason). It doesn't work but at least you can tell it's able to detect networks.
Now, it doesn't even show any networks. The only way to fix this is to restore from recovery or do a wipe......
Ok so I did some research and could this be the case?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwYOtf4fI0Q
I've also tried to assign static IP but it still doesn't work. I went into my router and checked the ARP, and it shows this:
IP address Flags MAC Address Device
192.168.1.2 Complete 00:18E:48:42:C9 br0
192.168.1.3 Complete 00:E0:4C:A3:8B:A8 br0
192.168.1.6 Incomplete 18:87:96:FE:16:3E br0
192.168.1.5 Complete 48:5D:60:3B:5E:5D br0

where 192.168.1.6 is assigned to my phone. I'm not that good with router stuff but know the basics, does anyone know what I need to configure?

My problem was unable to turn on wifi, wifi stuck at the stage of turning on.... and forever like that cant off and on.
Most probably is hardware problem coz i have tried many ways to solve including flash back to stock rom, change modem, change kernel and etc.
good luck for you, hope you are not the same problem with me.

Wifi is kernel-related.
So, try to flash another kernel to test.
Or if you don't want to flash another kernel, check in menu Settings > wifi > (menu button) Advanced > Use static ip.
Try to enabled and connect.
Then disable and try to connect.
If that does not help, try to wipe cache (and Dalvik cache) in recovery mode.
Press Volume UP + Home + Power buttons as long as the recovery menu appears, then select wipe cache and reboot the phone.
P.S.: Check the configuration of your wifi router / WLAN access point, that is allows your phone to connect.
ok so i did everything again just to be sure and... my mistake! the problem starts not after the rom flashing but after cf root! have i done something wrong maybe?
I would say look for a custom rom that is already pre-rooted so then it should have all bugs to do with wifi removed.
I used to have a problem with the wifi myself which caused problems when turning it into a wireless hot spot and then wouldn't turn back off again.
But now im on the Custom Rom I am having no problems with wifi at all.
Hope this helps.
Galaxy S2 Running Paranoid v1.2a 4.0.4
Actually, I would say try a different kernel. CF-root is a kernel. Wifi drivers are in the kernel. Ergo... ?
Wifi is kernel related issue
try changing your kernel
you mite wanna chk dis

Im having the same problem here, any luck so far?
may have something to do with the root. my phone had this issues once. just flash your phone with the correct rom and do NOT root it again as it may have something to do with the root itself. or just something got messed up during the rooting process

[Q] Samsung Galaxy SIII (GT-I9300) International Crashing And Rebooting

Hi, I'm having a curious problem with my S3 and I've been unable to solve it. I watched the "noob" video and tried searching these forums as well as a google search with various combinations of the wording for my problem. Nothing matching my issue turned up, I hope I didn't miss anything.
I recently bought a S3 second hand (yes, i know, i should have known better). It was rooted and running some kind of custom ROM when I first turned it on, but I was willing to deal with it until I double checked the procedure for getting it back to stock and starting again myself (nothing against the original rooting and flashing, just like to know exactly what I'm running).
When I purchased the phone I obviously checked that all of the main things worked - calling, texts, mobile data, wi-fi etc. I get home and connect to my home wi-fi and start checking things out and setting stuff up. The phone randomly rebooted. I carry on after the reboot and about 10 mins later, another restart.
To cut a long story short, there is something wrong with the wi-fi. If I turn off wi-fi in the settings menu and reboot, everything works great. No crashes, no reboots. If however I enable the wi-fi about 50% of the time it will crash while wi-fi is activating. The other 50% of the time, it will crash as it goes into the screen lock (either via timeout or pressing the button).
I've re-flashed to it's stock version of Android (using the 'Samsung GS3 Toolkit and Odin), same problem. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
You can try updating the modem and RIL to the right version for your country, search in general forum. If it still reboots then try with another wifi source - I've seen some routers cause problems on client machines.
If you do a factory reset when you flash the modem, plus you have the latest stock ROM on board, then any remaining problems are probably hardware.
Test it fully after the factory reset, before you add any apps etc.

After much experimentation and flashing of various files to my phone I have further narrowed the problem. I've still not solved it, but getting closer I feel.
After a clean ROM flash it works like a charm regardless of how much i use the wifi etc. It's only after the first reboot that the trouble starts. It will begin randomly restarting. If I perform a factory reset from recovery mode, it works again, but starts resetting again after a reboot.
Any ideas?

[Q]Erratic WiFi after 3.24.531.3 Update. Turns off when trying to connect to network

A few days ago I got a software update notification for 3.24.531.3. I ran the update and everything seemed to work fine. But when the phone rebooted I noticed I was no longer connected to my WiFi. I figured I just had to retype the password because of the software update. I typed in the password and hot "connect" and the phone froze for a few seconds. Then it flashed an error message say "unable to connect to network" and the WiFi turned off. So I tried connecting to an unsecured network and the same thing happened. So now my WiFi isn't working at all.
At the time, I was completely stock, not root, locked bootloader, nothing. So I though maybe unlocking, rooting, and flashing a custom ROM would fix the problem. I've tried a few different ROMs and they all have the same problem. I can turn the WiFi on and scan, but as soon as I try to connect to any network it freezes and turns off. I even get an error message say that "Settings has become unresponsive" and asks to send an error report to HTC.
Then today, I got another software update message saying there is another software update available but I can't download it since I can't connect to WiFi at all.
Any ideas what I can do to fix the problem?
Go to your settings and rename your phone "HTC One"

Thanks for your reply
I've tried that. I got it renamed in the WiFi Direct setting and in the About>Phone Identity settings, but when I type in the password it hangs then pops up with "failed to connect to network" and when that closes the WiFi is turned off. It's like the WiFi turns itself off while it's trying to connect.
I've gone through and turned off all the Power Save and Sleep settings thinking that was causing the problem, but that didn't do anything either.
Just flashed with a Stock 3.24.531.1 RUU and still getting the same problem. WiFi turns on and off erratically. I restored my google setting which saved my home WiFi password and it connectst to the network, but has no internet. And everytime I try to change the WiFi Direct name to "HTC One" it "fails to rename device" and WiFi is turned off. Hopefully now that I'm back to stock I can use internet pass through to download the new software update and that fixes the problem.
Was able to run the OTA update to 4.4.2 and am still having the same WiFi issues. I have no idea what the problem is
