I'm not preordering, and to me that just means im going to get it the day of release.
I was wondering what your guys views on the matter was.
Do you think there will be plenty in store? or is your only chance a preorder?
From what I've heard and talked to people at Best Buy, they won't even be in stores until after the New Year. I pre-ordered because I've been burned in the past thinking that they'd have them in store on release day and so far that has never happened.

theres a best buy thread that says that only the grey ones won't be in until after new year.
the guy i talked to at future shop said he would probably have some in store.
edit: yea best buy wont have **** in store for awhile.

Oh and NO 64GB IN STORES! Last I checked they were only available from a few online retailers, which totally sucks. Oh and waking up early to go pick it up to save shipping costs is a pretty good deal. If you want a 32GB, stores are the way to go.

the main advantage to preordering is to ensure you have one at release, going by asus' track record for the OG transformer, not getting one of the initial shipment could mean you're going to have to do a lot of hunting and waiting to get a hold of one.
although, gamestop might be your best bet to picking one up at launch.

i live in canada and i don't have an gamestop anywhere close to me, i do have an EB games tho.
I'm wondering if i ordered one online, could i cancel it if i was able to find one in stores? and what i heard about the last asus, was that they had some in stores they just went out of stock right away, am i right?

Plus for the same price others charging, GameStop gives you about $42 of pre installed software. I believe it's like 8 games or something that are optimized for tegra3. You can find out exactly which ones they are on GameStop website. These games normally cost about $6 a piece if you get them from TegraZone or android market. So I thinks that's especially cool. That glow ball game is really amazing, as far as graphics n looks go.

cool, but i dont have a gamestop near me, maybe ill go for a road trip or something... i thought gamestop was only for selling consoles and games and stuff, just like eb games.

Used to be pre-order was the way to go because you were guaranteed one. Now a days It's a diff story! I don't want to face the lines and risk of them not being in the store.

Okay. So I can finally preorder. I need some advice on where to buy from. Should I pay the extra $40 at Gamestop because the TFP/Gamepad bundle still says 12/9? Or do I go with TigerDirect or B&H even though I think they have sold out of their initial stock and are just still taking preorders unlike Amazon and Newegg. Well you can always opt for the 64GB model. Not sure about where you're from, but here in Canada BB hasn't even put those up for pre-order yet! 32GB seem to be out of stock though. As soon as the 64GB is up for grabs I'm jumping on it.
I'm getting the feeling that once again Asus has undermanufactured their tablet and it will take them months to catch up with demand. We might be lucky to get one by the end of January.
I think I'm ordering the gamepad/tablet combo from Gamestop in hopes that the Dec 9th date is still good for the bundle. I hope its the amethyst gray version. Wish me luck.

I cannot make myself hit the preorder button on Gamestop for some reason. I think it is the lack of color selection. I thought I didn't care until it came time to order. Now I think I must actually want the Amethyst Grey. Not sure why I capitalized that but it is what it is.

Adorama just started taking preorders the other day, but they werent one of the original preorder sites. So i dont know if they will be shipping out the same day or not as the rest. You'll have to check that out. If i was to preorder now i would pick tigerdirect just bc ive dealt with them in the past.
Thanks rosco. I just preordered at Adorama. They show 'on or around the 15th' as a ship date but it was my last hope to not pay tax. Tiger, GS, & BB all charge tax to Texas. I ordered the 32GB amethysts grey and the dock with overnight shipping ($40...ouch).

Just a heads up, not all GameStops sell Tablets and because of that not all GameStops will be displaying and/or selling the Prime. If you go to GameStop you can use the tablet section to find locations that are actually tablet stores and they will most likely have the Prime for display. Hope that helps stop people from running around town looking to check one out only to be disappointed.

Ok np, I just wanted to point that out, as this is the internet and some people may have read that and not be aware of the fact that not all locations carry them. I personally would but I honestly don't feel like driving to the nearest one which is about 20 miles just to check it out. I will be patient. There is another thread where someone purchased a unit from GameStop, so if they are receiving their units other retailers are as well so it's only a matter of time before they start shipping for pre-orders. I'm personally hoping my Newegg order ships this week.

I called my local ones that are listed and 2 out of 3 have it in stock. One of them already has them a full stock of the Asus in the store, but won't sell them until the 19th. Another store that didn't have the demo said they will be getting the demo plus the rest of there stock in by Thursday, but also won't be selling it till the 19th as well. I wonder how he was able to buy one right away. I think I might try and get one in store if mine doesn't ship by the 19th.
GameStop near me had one in stock.
I was the first one in the door when they opened.
The manager did not seem to know the one he had was a demo.

Just got off the phone at my local Gamestop. Looks like they are taking pre-orders in store! Going tomorrow for sure to lock one down. I will for sure cancel order online once done.

If you are in the US and you can find a place that is still accepting pre-orders, then maybe. It is very doubtful any stores will have it in stock until after the new years and seems like Canada and Europe are out of the questions until Jan or Feb.
However, it seems like Best Buy is the only place that has not cancelled or delayed pre-orders, so I would say you have your work cut out for you if you want one before the holidays.
I'd suggest calling around to some GameStop B&M stores. From some of the postings, it appears a couple of locations have more inventory arriving then they have pre-orders. Everyone on this forum's been going nuts to be first to get a Prime and are well aware of GameStop. But the average shopper probably wouldn't even think of them for tablets. Keep in mind not all GameStop stores sell tablets. If you have friends and family in other cities use them to expand your search.

Also keep in mind that Gamestop does not allow returns, so you would probably need to deal with Asus if you have any problems with the device. Honestly its a horrible place to buy anything but used games. They consistently open new products and sometimes remove contents or allow their employees to play with them before they shelf them. I just avoid buying anything new there.
However, it is true most people will not think of Gamestop for Tablets, so if they do get units this year it may be the best bet to find it.

Funny you'd say that. There are three GameStop's in my city that I didn't even know existed until the whole Prime pre-order thing. They're in obscure locations and the one I went in to looked like a thrift shop. Everyone working there looked like they were still in high school. On their website they say they have 6,627 company-operated stores in 17 countries. Who knew?

Yeah, that was a big fiasco. I found that if you want a new game from Gamestop that is unopened, you pretty much have to pre-order it and show up for a midnight launch if they hold one. Other than that I have never gotten a shrink-wrapped products. I hear this can vary store to store, but I have 4 within 10 miles of me and they all do the same.
So I just go in an buy used games. Those are the ONLY product they sell you can actually return. Probably because they buy stuff for $1-$5 and sell it for $20-$50.

I'm going to take my chance on Best Buy on launch date, they are bound to have some in stock on launch date.
I've never heard of a new product being sold to only online shoppers who pre-ordered weeks in advanced.
I also have it hard to believe that there many out there who are anxious for this product for it to sell out quickly on launch date.
Unlike that $199 1080p Sharp HDTV Best Buy fire sold on Black Friday, I was amazed then that no body in the line I waited that day was interested in the $249 Transformer.

The Prime probably decreased interest in original Transformer sales. It's a sweet deal at $250 but the second version was already announced. That said, my friend couldn't get a hold of the $250 ones (she waited in Manhattan)... I guess it also depends on the location.
Anyway, it's a week away from release so really the best chance now would be to stalk brick and mortar stores. (call ahead)

Considering today is Friday, tomorrow is the last day of possible deliveries before Christmas. Even if there were any available online, which there aren't, it is extremely unlikely you would get one delivered by tomorrow even with overnight shipping.There are a few to none available for sale from the stores as everyone is scrambling to fill pre-orders.
In short, you're probably out of luck friend, unless by some miracle you manage to find one from a B&M store without a pre-order (unlikely).

May be worth calling some smaller computer places. Sounds like some people on here have found ones at some smaller stores.
You're not going to find them at any of the major retailers. Both Future Shop and Best Buy have stated that they will fill their pre-orders first before any make it onto the store shelves....and no one seems to have received a pre-order from them yet. My Amazon "Pre Order" for the 64 gig version says releasing at the end of January early February. I have had this thing on pre-order since December and I am kind of getting tired of waiting.
Is there an actual brick and mortar store I can drive to that has this thing in stock anywhere? I don't care if its 32 or 64.

I finally heard about NowInStock.net and signed up to receive email alerts (I chose only stores that had brick&mortar in my city). It only took 2-3 days for something to be made available.
Also, remember that the longer you wait the fewer the hardware defects should be (except GPS of coarse ) so thats a happy thought. Good luck dude.

Yes there are local stores selling these. I bought mine from a Fry's retail location in Atlanta (Alpharetta).

They didn't have docks when I was there a couple of days ago.
There is a thread about how to special order a Grey dock by walking into Best Buy. You should be able to get a dock within a few days. I did it and it worked like a charm.

You can check store availability for the Gray Model now.
Still not in stores, but, going into a solid day 2 of availability on Best Buy's website tells me the initial onslaught has slowed to a crawl and they should start to flow from the other sources (Amazon. Abe's, etc.) and perhaps start to show up in brick and mortars.
Before this I had not seen it available for more than a few hours at a time. Also, you can now go through the "proper" searches on their web site to find it "in stock" (i.e. computers>tablets>price>bingo!) where before you had to search specifically for it (almost "back channel" it).
Can't help but wonder if the known issues arising has slowed demand to this point or if this has occurred naturally.
BTW, mine is scheduled for delivery today by EOD. Yay!
You can check Google Product Search and Milo.com as well. Prime has been showing up in few local Best Buy stores as IN STOCK.
I ordered mine from OD on Wednesday and I tracked it. it's scheduled to be here on Monday. I called and ordered it. Also I called and they said they didn't have it. Then I called back to see when they'd have it and they had it. Then I called back with my payment information and they said they were out. Then I called back to see if I backordered it if the coupon would apply and they had it and now according to UPS it'll be here Monday. So perhaps it depends on the person you get. Oh yea the automated thingie said they were OOS as well but when it sent me to the CSR they had it. weird.

When bestbuy says ships in 3-5 days, is that TRUE?

Best Buy should have the Grey 32 model still in stock, ordered one a week ago got it a few days ago. Unfortunately I had a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen so I had to exchange for a new one. I just called today and they are already sending me a new one so BB should have plenty in stock. Besides in a week everyone will start to have them in stock.

Before this I had not seen it available for more than a few hours at a time. Also, you can now go through the "proper" searches on their web site to find it "in stock" (i.e. computers>tablets>price>bingo!) where before you had to search specifically for it (almost "back channel" it).
Can't help but wonder if the known issues arising has slowed demand to this point or if this has occurred naturally.
BTW, mine is scheduled for delivery today by EOD. Yay!

you know bestbuy's online inventory system is a joke right?
thats what im worried about, it says it ships from warehouse in a day but i dont want to end up waiting a month for this

Well the issues are pretty minor to me. I don't quite care that the bootloader is locked. Asus is very sparing with the customization. Also I won't be using the tablet for GPS, since the only really useful GPS requires a 3G signal and my Galaxy Nexus handles that just fine.
This tablet is still top dog in my book and I am done waiting for others.
BTW, mine is scheduled for delivery today by EOD. Yay!
