[Q] Cant wipe data fact reset --password lock - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I have a sgs2 att
it was messing up and couldnt really do anything on home screen, so i tried reseting it in settings. now it needed a password to factory reset . so I thought reflashing the rom would fix it. I used odin and flashed to a stock unrooted rom, via the 1 click odin flash when its done [passed] your are to factory data reset but when i atempted to in e3 console it asked for a password again ..
if somebody calls me or txt me i can respond and get passed the lock screen onlt to answer the call or txt.but i cant call out or log in.
what do i do now.
Ok !!! i fixed it, this should probbly be a sticky i dont know..
this is what was happening when i was in e3 to wipe factory reset.

after pressing wrong password a few times a bit scared as to what would happen next It finally said wrong password will remove all data. I entered wrong password again and it wiped factory reset it !!
so enter wrong passwords bout 4 times allowed wiping. why couldn't i find this info any ware before ?

Crazy stuff. Never heard of that happening. Sounds like the only thing is to boot into download mode and use odin to flash stock or stock rooted.

I've never run into this, nor have I ever seen a post about it. My guess is that very few people here are even familiar with setting a password to lock wipe data/factory reset, and that few if any would know the sequence you just discovered. Glad you got it sorted out.

thanks for post OP
same thing happened to me today and was annoyed by it but thanks to your post i was able to fix it
thanks again

I do believe a sticky or at least honorable mention should be had about this!

Lol. People install apps to protect their security then forget about it and then complain about it doing its job later. Thaaaaats pretty much it. That, or they bought it from someone else who did and they were unaware.

Cheers and thanks!
P.S. I just updated to ICS (oficial) and still the same.
if thats happening while ur on charger, than yes change the charger.
if you are on custom ROM wipe and flash stock using odin not custom.
better to complete wipe including system partition.
Hi, thanks for the reply. This happens when charching and on the go too (not charching). I have stock ICS official.
Its very strange :/
Just wipe your cache/factory reset/erase all data/and then fully charge phone while off before first boot, last but not least wipe your battery stats in your cwm recovery, then boot, voila problem gone, and stop using diffrent charger's, use only samsung official charger

YES ITS A HARDWARE PROBLEM, YOU HAVE NON WORKING TOUCH LINES, YOU NEED TO REPLACE YOUR TOUCH SCREEN, HERE THE GUIDE, I KNOW YOU'LL NEVER DO IT, BUT IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS, PRESS THANKS BUTTON

Nope. Wiped data before updating. Figured it would be best to give the update a fresh start.

Yep, getting the exact same thing on every reboot, seems to cause a delayed boot, im on the latest androwook, did all the wipes on twrp recovery and everything, its a bugger, as it slows down my bootup.
Doesnt seem to be a solution, ive tried a dalvik and cache wipe but the problem persists, ill go as far as saying that doing a dalvik wipe is what initiates it, as i dont ever remember getting it, when ive restored my apps through titanium, essentilly installing the apps as if ive installed them individually over a period of time
Ive been restoring the data portion (apps, widgets, settings, launcher) from my latest twrp backup after every rom flash.........always comes back when i do it that way, reckon i backed up the *issue* aswell.
I think its got to do with something on that side of things, a script or something not getting updated to reflect that the scan was already done *shrugs*
Started happening to me after I did a custom rom install. Any of you guys go back and forth between stock and custom? Still a newb at this but maybe Asus knows and there's something it can't update?

[Q] [HELP] [WTSR/SMPL] Bricked SGSII by removing Gmaps

Hey guys,
Pretty desperate here, and I've been searching the forums and other pages on the web for a solution, but nothing yet.
I'm afraid I did something pretty stupid. I wanted to update Gmaps, but Play Store gave me the 'not signed correctly, please delete older version' message. So I tried to uninstall the old Gmaps through Settings, but that didn't work.
Than I had this 'brilliant' idea to just hardcore delete Gmaps through Titanium Backup. Well, I did and... BOOM! Black screen, a short boot loop and after that... nothing.
I took out the battery for about 15 minutes and placed it back in, and now I get this weird message saying 'WTSR/SMPL'.
Phone won't start up in Recovery, only Download mode.
Somebody can help me out here?

Flash a stock rom in download mode with Odin, clean slate. Then re-root your phone & you can restore a backup (if you have one).

Thanks for your response so quick, appreciate it.
BTW, are you sure there is no other way? Did you see this WTSR message before?
No probs. No, I've never seen it. But thinking logically; you have no recovery, the phone won't boot normally & you can only get into download mode. You don't really have any other option other than the one I suggested, do you ?

Not sure. The weird thing is: when I press the home button repeatedly, the screen starts flickering from white to black and back. So there's still something alive, don't you think?

I will try to reflash the rom to see if that takes care of the problem
Thanks
At the top of the security does it say "screen lock"? Select that and select none.

It worked ! I tried clicking screen unlock, and it asked for my password. I got freaked out and just backed out of the whole thing. I didn't realize it was asking me for my password so that I could remove the screen lock.
Haha. Thanks so much. I appreciate the help. Glad I didn't have to refresh the Rom.

Glad I could help!! :victory:

trick & tip don't know how it worked but it did

Ok I can't believe this even worked but ok so I couldn't get knock on to work after flashing a new version of simple kernel on malladus Rom then he revised the kernel into two one with knock code and one without so I flashed the new one with knock code still couldn't get knock on to work with any kernel except dorimanx so I flashed cloudy g3 Rom and flashed the new simple kernel and knock on worked so anyway dumbass me thought ok knock on code might be in the firmware so I decided to to copy the firmware from cloudy g3 and paste it into my malladus backup needless to say that didn't work I got stuck on the boot screen no matter what Rom I restored our anything thing else I tried and I
couldn't get into download mode only fastvoot so I couldn't restore it back to stock using the lg tool so I figured I was f~ed. But I tried something that I never thought was going to work I took a Rom zip I had and deleted the system and boot from inside of it and took the vs98024a ota Update file and put it in the rom zip and then booted into recovery and flashed it well it flashed but I still couldn't boot it still would get stuck on the boot screen so I restored cloudy g3 backup again wiped both caches and low and behold it booted I don't know how but it worked unbelievable but happy me so if you get stuck I a similar situation I hope this helps you
Well I restored malladus ROM just to see if the knock code would work now but sorry to say it still doesn't so if anyone has any ideas on how to get the knock on feature to work again I'm all ears
