for me its a toss up between the ipad 2 and the prime. I wanted to know why the people here are after the prime instead of going for the ipad 2.
keep in mind, i don't know what androids like at all, so please answer in more detail then: I like android more then apple.

Well for one, its hasn't been released yet, so for most people its a competition between old technology and new technology. Plus you are on an Android/Palm/Windows dominated forum.
As for why people prefer Android to Apple, there are many reasons. For a majority of the people on XDA it has to do with the ability to completely customize the entire operating system, something that apple cant do (either by restrictions or a less dedicated mod community), anything from modifications to stock or a completely independent new rom, thats what XDA does.
For many people they don't trust Apple for the way they trick customers and do buisness. There are hundreds of reason, too many for me (one person to list) as for why people prefer Android to IOS.
In addition to Android being a more open system than iOS, it also seems to be getting updated at a quicker pace. If (or when) your device gets outdated, you will always have a dedicated community keeping your device up to date for a long time.
Also, the connectivity on a device like Prime seems to be above and beyond what you get on the iPad.
You have Micro HDMI out (need dongle for iPad), Micro SD card slot for expanding memory (not available on iPad), option to get a keyboard dock w/extra battery (only wireless option that drains battery for iPad)
With the dock you get even more connectivity with a regular USB port (needs another dongle on iPad) that supports regular mouse/keyboard. Also supports a USB hub should you want to use your regular PC Mouse/Keyboard.
I might be biased since I have only played with iPads and never owned one. Did sell my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and pre ordered the Prime though.

IMHO, it's because the Transformer Prime is a true convergence device. Apple could have easily made something like it, but to protect their profits, they kept the iPad and MBA separate (i.e. crippled) instead.
If the iPad could do everything a Mac can do, Apple would stand to lose a lot of profits. So that's why the smart money is on the Transformer Prime.

true, its not out yet, but a lot of people have watched a crap ton of videos or have had some hands on. I also would like to know how android works for the tablet.. lol im a complete nub at this stuff.

great answer, this makes me lean towards the prime.
Truth be told, im MOST likely getting the prime, i just would like to hear good things about it.
Obvisously it being the tube first quad core tablet and being 32gb at the same price point as the 16gb iPad 2 are huge reasons. Of course with the dock the price is 650 but I believe it's a worthy addition. It's also thinner, has way more connectivity, I.e. hdmi out, SD slot, etc. The promise of having ICS (Google's new OS) before the end of the year.
You can't really tinker with ios and I don't actually consider it an OS anyways. Just homescreen after homescreen of start menus. Ios is boring and just overall not an enjoyable experience. Everytime I use my EVO 3d I still get excited about all the stuff i can do with it. Google is just more enticing in my opinion.
If you really are bad at research you might consider sticking with the iPad2. I think of Android as the tinkerer's OS. I have IT degrees and certs and still have to research pretty hard to keep up with all the work that the great devs here do. It's not the simplest platform out there. However if you want to get better at researching this stuff and like learning about your tech from the inside out I say get the Prime and watch these forums closely.
The biggest upside to this tablet over any other tablet for me though is the keyboard dock. It's an ingenious innovation in tablets that is sure to be copied at some point. A peripheral that actually adds battery life while providing not one, not two, but three or more excellent options (usb, sd, keys) to the device is pretty amazing.

Pretty simple. its not Apple. that is the biggest selling point
I considered the iPad2 for about 10seconds after the whole Amazon cancelling orders fiasco, but then I realize how boring and expensive the thing really is. 64GB model is 120$ more expensive, no option for a decent keyboard dock, gated community iOS crap.... BUT they do have some apps I do want that aren't out YET for Android. I don't know, I want a tablet with functionality, customizability, and with next year's tech in it. Honestly, after ICS I probably won't bother rooting and flashing the device... But I still prefer an Android. It's a fun OS, ICS looks amazing, and if I ever decide to root and flash, I can! The iPad doesn't really offer that much. It hardly lets you do decent word processing last I checked.
I mean, since Dropbox and all that stuff, syncing docs between devices is a joke, I remember the iPad1 being kinda lame in that respect (plus it was using that Apple word processing suite... ick). I don't know... and the whole Gamestop getting behind Tegra 3 is really awesome. Gives me hope that Android might get more exposure, get more popular, and therefore more devs actually working to release games on the platform rather than iOS only.
I just think it's kinda lame that Asus didn't have enough stock to go around to release these things before Christmas... Regardless, I'm staying away from iPads THIS year and getting the Prime.
I own an iPad2 for about half a year.
And I am an Android user, my phone is HTC Desire, Nexus S, and pre-ordered Galaxy Nexus.
First of all, please excuse my english language
Previously, I was waiting a good decent Android tablet, good hardware profile, good battery life, screen is nice, etc.
My eyes was on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but Honeycomb 3.0 at that time really put me off with issues like "slow text input on web page". And the fact that it came very late in Europe (even barred in Germany!).
ASUS Transformer 1 just does not cut it, I don't like the hardware profile, thick and heavier than GTab 10.1. Sure, I use iPad2 as reference because as Android user, I always want a device that is better (or on par) than fruit device!
I could wait and wait, but nevertheless my wife asked me a tablet and I thought iPad2 will suit her (as non power user).
After half a year using this iPad2, here are some things that I don't like:
1. The virtual keyboard.
Why on earth, Apple created virtual keyboard like that? No lower case indication, no easy way to output numeric chars (on Android, I can long press), and way too much click to output []+ for example (I hate this when I create a post in XDA starting with "[Q]" ... or typing "Google+"). Really, I wish I can change the keyboard. Alas, I cant.
With Android, you can change it the way you want. There are many good virtual keyboard apps!
2. Non-unified file system
All right, in iOS, there is no unified file system. Each app has its own storage space. That's make a bit difficult to manage files. Granted, I always want to use my device as storage for my files. There is nothing wrong with it, right?
If I got a file attachment in iOS, how do I download it? How can I access that file from other apps?
3. Sharing thing
On Android, if I have something, like a file, an app, or anything, I can easily share it with other users via intuitive user interface, using WhatsApp, Facebook, Google+, email, what not.
I simply cannot do this with iOS. You can say, this is not a big deal, but that's disadvantage.
Right now, I always go back to my Nexus S to share things!
4. Boring home screen
Yeah, this is obvious. There is nothing you can do with iOS home screen. Icons icons and loads of icons. I want "direct information" right in the home screen, like weather, news, system status, etc. You cannot have that, you must access each app manually to get that information. With Android, you can have widget, simple.

So, now, with the Prime, I think I found the right tablet for me I still hate Honeycomb, but it will get ICS.
The hardware profile is much better than the iPad2, with SD card slot, HDMI, and decent keyboard dock. While still maintaining thinner and lighter profile.
Why shouldn't I get one?
People complaint about "smoothness" and "fluidity" of the scrolling / home screen. Yes, most probably iOS is better on this, but ICS is not that bad! I don't think you will experience choppy and laggy user interface or such. I will opt for all those advantages on Android rather than just smoothness.
Apps, apps and apps. Yeah, this is personal. So far, I am satisfied with all apps that I can get from Android. ... Of course, except Facebook app! But, I think I can use the web browser

Here's what can be done on android that can't on iOS. (expect maybe by jailbreaking but it become way less convenient than your usual iOS expérience)
_ widget : widget are great on tablet where you have big screen. Lot of usefull and funny stuff can be had to the homescreens.
_lives wallpapers : many cool looking or even usefull interactive wallpapers.
_ acces to files. You can dl torrents and every thing else easily.
_ google stuff intégration. Google is the best on the internet. Android is where google shine the most.
_ change every thing in the os. Homescreens, keyboard, everything can be change by a single tap in the market.
_ custom rom. Developpers can build thing that completly change the way android works.
_ geeky funny stuff like easter egg
_flash
Overall, with Android you'll never find yourself unable to do something that a low power device should be able to do (don't expect to do a CG short movie on your tablet...) And the experience of the OS itself (outside of each individual apps) is way less boring than iOS.

You know, iOS will always better on that smoothness/fluidity of the user interface, even with ICS.
You know why?
Because iOS does a lot less than Android.

But, have you seen ICS on Galaxy Nexus and some bit demos on the Prime?
I don't think that is not acceptable for smoothness.
ICS is super fast, but at certain times, you might "perceive" some kind of lag. For example, going back/to home screen from apps drawer, or long SMS list. But yeah, that does not mean it is not fast nor smooth. It is smooth, but it is not the same like iOS.
As I said, I won't bother that much. There are a lot more advantages on Android that make life easier for using tablet. And it will get better.

Well I had Asus Transformer one and currently I have Ipad 2. Here is why Ipad 2 is a piece of crap:
CONS OF IPADS:
1. Ipads have much worse resolution. On paper it you might think it is not that bad. But when I sold TF (just to wait and buy Prime of course) and bought Ipad2 (a temporary solution) I could not believe my eyes. Asus have a great display. Everything is sharp and clear. Ipads resolution is not good enough. While playing games the difference is almost invisible. But when browsing internet, reading books and so on the difference is huge. On Ipad the text is not clear, not sharp. My eyes have hard work to make. Believe me or not. Ipads displays sucks.
2. Ipads do not have external slots lile SD slot, USB slot. If you want to copy to Ipad mp3 or mkv you have to use stupid Itunes. Also if you copy some files into Ipad they are only seen by a certain application you are going to use to play those files. While in Android tablets like great TF you copy files and you can access to the by any of application on tablet. Full freedom.
3. You cannot customize desktop on Ipad. After using TF I felt a huge discomfort using Ipad. I could do nothing with the screen. No widgets, no nothing...
4. No flash on ipad. I have few favorite WWW which demands flash. They worked on TF properly but on Ipad.... they do not. lol....
PROS OF IPAD
1. More GAMES. Yes games only. So what you have plenty of apps. But not having the ability of widgets (like weather) those apps are not so attractive like those for Android. But comparing Android games with Ipad games I must say that there are only few more (for me) games on iOS than on Android. I thought there will be much more great games on iOS. Another disappointment.
As for me Ipads are just toys. More like consoles. A stuff for kids mostly. For people not demanding having a PC compared possibilities.
If you want to have useless toy - take Ipad. Want to have small PC - take Android - Asus PRIME! YEACH! AMEN!
iPad 2 pros:
Software availability - but this will change, development is increasingly Android + iOS rather than iOS first, Android port maybe some day.
Raw GPU power - potential for more graphically-impressive games, though Tegra 3's GPU is still good and may win out on more complex scenes?
Ease of use - there's not much to the OS, so not much to go wrong.
3G version available - would have to use another device (or maybe dongle) with the Prime.
Transformer Prime pros:
Customisability - you can change anything on Android, Apple want to control the experience.
No walled garden - free to install any application without Google's permission, no need to jailbreak.
Screen - higher resolution and brighter.
Raw CPU power - the other side of the coin, this gives the Prime more potential than the iPad 2 in other areas.
Dock option - makes the Prime into an Android netbook and extends battery life. iPad alternative is not integrated, drains the battery, and does not have a trackpad.
Expansion - microSDHC card slot and micro-HDMI port on tablet, and SD card slot and USB 2.0 port on dock. iPad requires additional dongles.
Camera - superior camera. Though I'm not sure what you're doing with a camera on a tablet.
For some (most?) people, the ease of use and application availability points mean the iPad 2 wins out. But for most of us here, being able to change stuff and use more of the potential of the device means that the Prime is the winner.

Truth, iOS gets very boring. I was using an iPhone 4 for maybe 2 months and there was something about it that I didn't like. Now I figured it out once I went back to my X2. iOS is just so plain and linear, it holds your hand on everything. Even when you're installing a jailbreak mod, you just press "Install" and sit back unlike on Android where you have boot into recovery yourself and point it to whatever it is you want to flash.
I found my Transformer better than the iPad, so I'm sure I'll find the Prime better as well
I look at the iPad as dummy-proof. Too simplistic for my needs, and kind of boring, just having grids of icons. I also like to tweak things, and even without rooting, Android has a a lot of personalizations that I cannot do with iOS.
Apple innovates, and repackages well, and they know how to make things look cool that have been around for a long time (brilliant marketing). However, I just do not like the 'better than you' smugness that is too often associated with folks who pony up the Apple premium prices.
I had an iPad and currently have an iPad2 for work, but I want what I want, and I just feel that Apple doesn't allow me to do that.
I had a Xoom, which was okay, but seemed first gen. My hacked Nook Color is more useful to me, and I may keep it to read books on (I read lots of books). The Xoom is quite a bit heavier than the Prime, and I found that reading for long periods was a chore on the Xoom in comparison to the compact and lighter Nook Color
I'm hoping that the Prime is the "baby bear" (just right) to the "papa bear" Xoom (too big and cumbersome) and "mama bear" Nook color (a bit too small). ..and don't ask me how I thought of that analogy.. I was just thinking of comparing three things

Seriously though, the widgets are the thing that really sets Android apart IMHO. On my phone (Dell Streak 5), every person I've shown it to is just amazed.
I have the weather, lists (groceries and to-do), music player, RSS feed and calendar widgets. That at-a-glance information means I can get out the door quicker in the morning and not be late! And it's my book/manga reader too.

I'm currently an iPad 2 user. I have a Galaxy S phone (which I love) and won't give it up for an iPhone. I was considering buying a Tab... but I didn't have much of a choice when the iPad 2 came out.
Today I ran into a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (it was AMAZING) and I'm thinking about returning my iPad 2.
Would anyone recommend this?
I love the Android OS. I chose the iOS because of the amount of useful school/work apps it has. [IT field].
Another question is... does anyone here own both [or tried both the iPad 2 AND the G Tab]? I have to say that the iPad 2 keyboard was much smoother than the Galaxy Tab.
I tried it quick.. I didn't have much time to play with it. I thought the keyboard wasn't as fast.

My mom have the iPad 2 and I love Honeycomb but when compared to iOS its missing a whole lot, especially on apps.
Honeycomb is a new OS for tablets and I see it growing in the future and apps are slowly being ported and optimized for Honeycomb tablets. iOS has been in the market for a while and honeycomb has got some catching up to do.
Buy a tablet for what it is now instead of expecting something out of it and just getting frustrated waiting for an app. I bout a zune HD thinking it will go toe to toe with the iPod touch but was just disappointed and ended up selling it and buying the iPod touch.

Other than the infamous lag when typing in forums, keyboard speed is fine in every application I've used so far. For some the forum thing is a big deal, and I've worked around it for now by using a remote desktop app if I really feel the need to post an essay using the tab, but obviously that isn't ideal.
As for the keyboard itself, there are plenty to choose from. Swiftkey, Thumb Keyboard and Swype are all excellent alternatives if you don't like the stock HC keyboard or the Samsung one.
The tab comes with Quick Office pre-installed and that will do the job if you want to take notes and read documents. There are about a half dozen office suites and each have their pro's and con's, if you want to learn more about them there is a good comparison thread over at the Asus Transformer forums. They all have a ways to go though before they're suitable for real work with documents however.
For IT, I imagine apps like LogMeIn, Wyse Pocket Cloud, Overlook Fing, andSMB, SharesFinder, ASProxy, Connect Bot, etc would be useful.
to give you an honest answer stick with the Ipad. Everyone on here will try to give you a reach around about why the TAB is so great. But quite frankly in its current state its not. I'm typing this on my tab right now and am getting pissed that my words are showing up well after I press the keys. There are NO USEFULL ANDROID TABLET APPS available at this time. You want proof. Go to the marketplace and see if you van even tell the difference between what is a table app and what isn't. Some tablet apps even have disclaimers stating they aren't even compatible with the GT yet. I purchased my tab because I'm believing in the Modding community will one day provide me with the goodies I crave for use on what is a very (hardware) capable device. But if you want somethingthat just works right now... get an IPAD.
I am still so much on the fence about the GT 10.1 I have a hard time even trying to formulate a reply to this. As I think I go back and forth every 5 minutes.
GT 10.1
+ Android is open, open file system, third party app stores/markets.
+ Wide screen display, higher resolution, and stereo speakers great for videos.
+ Highly customizable with widgets.
+ XDA community usually does great job with custom ROMs.
+ Google apps and Amazon CloudDrive and App Store are great.
- Android 3 is a rush job, screen response not great (not bad either), keyboard lag.
- App crashes and random reboots rare, but happen more than they should.
- Tablet app select still small, and Android app versions sometimes inferior to iOS.
- Uncertainty when Samsung might push the Android 4.0 update, they've been ver slow in the past.
- No Netflix
iPad 2 (I own an iPad 1, so this is mostly about iOS)
+ Over a year head start in tablets, lots of quality apps.
+ iOS versions of some apps are better, Tweetdeck, Tune In Radio, Taptu, etc.
+ Netflix, Hulu Plus (don't care for Hulu, but really miss Netflix on my GT 10.1)
+ iOS very responsive and smooth.
+ Square screen ratio nice for browsing, ebooks.
+ Apple makes software and hardware, so dependable updates.
- No file system access, must use iTunes (usually) to transfer files.
- Google, YouTube apps sucks on iOS.
- No third party application markets (no good Jailbreak for iPad 2, so no Cydia).
- Lower res display, 512MB of RAM.

Hello!
My friend owns the iPad/iPad 2 and I use them regularly when I'm at his house as he has multiple. I own a Galaxy Tab 7" and 10.1 myself. Here's my personal opinion:
The iPad had a significant build quality difference between it and the 7" Tab. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 corrects this, but it's still very difficult to beat a uniform metal structure versus a plastic one. This will boil down to whether you prefer a higher build quality, or a lighter device. The 10.1 is way lighter, the iPad 2's build quality is better.
As far as applications go... iOS tablet-centric apps blows Android out of the water. There is no denying this. You can still get any application you need on both platforms, but the higher resolution ones on the iPad are way more numerous. Here's to hoping this changes soon for Honeycomb.
As far as operating systems go... Honeycomb is ages beyond iOS in terms of a more desktop-like feel on a Tablet and less of a phone-like feel. iOS 5 does little to correct this. You will find the OS itself much more pleasant on a Honeycomb tablet.
Hardware: The processor in the iPad 2 is fast. The processor in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is fast. I don't see any speed differences between the two, except for the browser. The lead Google put in Android 2.2 shows heavily with the UI optimized for Tablets. Also, the Tegra 2 processor is the first processor I can say having Flash is a definitive advantage. I can stream HD videos from Flash sources on the web (ABC, Crunchyroll, etc) with very little to no stuttering. Props to NVidia here. I could probably do a video for you, if you were interested.
The back camera on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is far superior, though I don't think you'll be using it very often when cameras on phones are smaller and easier to use. Just my opinion.
Last but not least: I really dislike the iPad (iOS 4) and Google's default keyboard on Tablets. They are extremely hard to use while handling the device. I use Swiftkey Tablet X on my 7" and 10.1" Tab and LOVE it. If you keep your iPad 2 I really suggest you get iOS 5 on it to take advantage of the split keyboard effect. It makes typing far easier. If you do go back and get a Google-based Tab, drop their crappy keyboard and get Swiftkey X. It's in beta - I can send you the apk if you do end up going that route. Just PM me.
[Edit] Quick edit after reading Ravynmagi's post - not having Netflix is a HUGE HUGE bummer. There's no word on it coming to Honeycomb either, so don't hold your breath[/Edit]
I've had both. the iTampon 2 is riddled with screen problems. I wouldn't pay 500 bucks for it. It does have more apps... but let's be honest..... how many apps do you really need?

Check the support forums at the Apple site. Sure hasn't.
I don't like Ipads. It feels like you are stuck into the app drawer forever.
Sure, there are tons of apps for tablets but everything else is below 10.1 standards.
It starts with the homescreen, over to multitasking abilities and ends in hardware.
And a 4:3 screen is a no go. Every media is made for 16:9 or 16:10, have fun watching movies on that. Ipad2 feels like an ancient TV.
And web without flash? Seriously? That also means no browser games which all are high resolution and made for PC !
Ipads are just for the fancy glamour aspect. The apps look better, for example ebook readers are nicer animated. But I am a purist, I don't want animations around my text, I want a nice and huge display. Why buy 10.1 if half of your screen is used up by showing virutal pages?
The fact that Honeycomb doesn't have many good apps and Tegra 2 seems pretty poor overall (poor video/codec playing, maybe be an OS issue though) I would get an iPad. It will just be a smoother/better experience.

I was debating between these 2 devices and in the end I chose the IPAD2. I really wanted to go with Android, but right now its just not ready for "primetime" just yet. I may revisit this when ICS comes out and the Android Tablets and Apps have become more mature. Much like when Android came out, you are goign to ahve to do a lot fo work to get it to do what you want to do. I think the GTAB has great potential, its the OS that holds it back. App conversion\creation has been very slow so far, which is another drawback.
As others have said though, take account of what you want to do with the tablet and what apps you will use. Then go through both tablets and see what will suit your needs. You cant go wrong with either as both have their negative and positive attributes. Whichever is going to fit your needs the best is the one to get, everyone has different needs and wants, so everyone will have a differing opinion.
I can say though that I have not been disappointed with my decision. I still come here and lurk to see what the current state of the GTAB is though as it still sparks my interest and I want it to succeed.

My experience is quality has usually been lower on the Android side. Either the Android version has fewer features or is less stable or not even compatible with your device. Fragmentation is a real ***** on Android right now and quality is suffering because of it.
I really don't see an argument for Android having an advantage on the app side. That's going to be the iPad's strong point for quite some time.
But I do agree, plenty of people can find good quality apps that suit their needs and be completely happy.

why am i able to do the above with any browser froyo/gingerbread but not honeycomb?
typing in username/password is a nightmare, tap a key --> wait for the character to appear --> type the next key.. honestly if u want to try out android, get yourself an android phone, avoid honeycomb tablets for the time being

ipad has a lot of useful and quality apps compared to the less than a hundred apps that honeycomb offer.
I'm not talking about games because the tablet optimized games that honeycomb/tegra have are awesome but when it comes to apps for specific tasks they have very limited selection and not a lot of them are comparable to the ipad app counterpart.
I'm talking about finance apps like iReconcile for iPad and portfolio apps for photographers.
I have not seen one portfolio app for honeycomb and ipad have a color calibration app made by datacolor called SpyderGallery but non existent on the honeycomb.
I'm just saying that honeycomb might be good for someone that want to do basic stuff on their tablet but if you want a task specific app, the ipad has them and honeycomb desn't have them but doesn't mean they're not going to have them in the future.
I think that we're going to see a lot of apps ported to honeycomb by the end of the year.

I've played with the ipad & currently own a GT 10.1. For me (& I think Rayvnmagi summed it all up nicely), the two greatest advantages of Honeycomb are media (ability to play Flash & higher resolution video) and the mod-ability (I just bought an Epic 4G -- $30 on Amazon! -- and I haven't stopped playing with ROMs since; something I could never do with my iphone 3GS).
Yes, the apps are decidedly not there. Yes, the keyboard lag is awful when typing in forums, etc. I'm willing to put up with that for now because I know two things: 1) the fellas here at xda are awesome & will most likely come out with a fix in the near future & 2) Google handed out GT 10.1 developer editions to everyone at its developer conference. That can only be a good thing in terms of app development for the GT 10.1.
All that being said, I actually recommended my dad (NOT a techie) get an ipad 2. He's not as tech-savvy, and he's of the mindset that things should just work. The ipad has established itself as a very stable platform that works (usually) without a hitch & I have a feeling if he'd gotten a GT 10.1, he would have had several headaches & never used it.
So, I feel like in the end, it really depends on your usage preference--do you want an established tech with a little bit lower specs or do you want the newer tech with more bugs but better specs?
My problem with the tab right now has nothing to do with apps etc etc. That stuff will eventually come, just a little time.
My problem is with lag, video playback issues, and the fact that samsung does not like to update their products to push you to buy new ones. Even if google fixes all the issues currently with the tablets, there is no guarantee samsung will give us that update.
Samsung's flagship phone (galaxy s) has yet to get the ota froyo update. If you send your phone back in for a warranty repair, yes you will receive a refurbed one with froyo or you can get it through kies if you are aware of it's existence. Yet the new $70 samsung exhibit is just a replay of the vibrant but with gingerbread!
I don't know about the other manufacturers, but I don't expect the tab to improve much more than it has now. There will most likely be a new tablet from samsung in the fall to winter season sporting icecream sandwich...if that happens, forget updates!

The problem with the iPad is that once you buy into the Apple infrastructure if you buy a decent quality of apps you're locked into them forever unless you want to start over again. Personally I love the flexibility of Android and will never go back to having an iPhone (which I used to have).
When Exchange didn't work with my corporate server with my iPhone I was out of luck. With my Droid X I had the same problem but was able to download Touchdown which works fine. To me, that flexibility makes it more worthwhile to stay with Android and lose out on the over abundance of "fart apps" in the Apple app store.
It's really hard to decide for me, which tablet i'm going to buy. What are your opinions?
Well if you're using it primarily for web browsing then it's the Sony all the way for me, as the apple doesn't support flash. If that's not important to you, well the apple has more apps and the iOS is nice and easy to use.
Depends entirely on what you plan to do. Both are top notch tablets, both are great for media consumption. The biggest advantage for Ipad is obviously sheer volume of apps, the biggest S Tabl advantage is the remote control and Playstation ability. Biggest negative for Ipad is no ability to expand it, limited ports etc.
I, like most/all people in the S forum will say the Sony.
The design is just brilliant. I was amazed at the volume of films available in Video Unlimited. And for £399 its pretty darn cheap.

I think it's also the design and the way you hold the tablet is just great.
They both have positive and negative points.
I only miss HDMI on this tablet. But streaming your media with DLNA works great and easy. It's awesome to really throw your video to your PC, PS3 even XBOX 360 and all other devices that work with it.

The Ipad 2 is superior in almost every aspect. The only reason I could think of why u would grab the Tablet S over the Ipad 2 is if money is a concern or if you just plain hate Apple...
I believe that the Tablet S is an excellent tablet for those who have never owned a tablet.
Many of my friends who used it loved it (none of them have owned a tablet before).
However, when compared to the Jetstream it just lacks so much... The jetstream is smoother, faster, screen is nicer (imo). The Pen functionality is a huge bonus.
Compared to the Ipad2... Ipad2 has zero lag whereas the Tablet S has occasional lag, Tablet S has various other issues (read up on this forum) that the Ipad simply does not have. I have found absolutely nothing that the Tablet S does better then the Ipad2, whereas the Ipad2 does soooo many things better then the Tablet S.
Ofc... your in the Tablet S section so expect every1 to call me a troll, but this is my honest opinion; if you have used other tablets before, stay away from the Tablet S & go for the Ipad2.
TBH... I have currently ditched the Jetstream and the Ipad2 and instead use the Flyer simply because it is so portable!

Yes, I agree. Sony Tablet rear camera is 5MP with Exmor R, resolurion of screen is higher and better than ipad 2, it also offers more functions than any ipad out there.

Sky Go isn't on Android yet, although it is apparently coming "this winter".
The deciding factor for me though, as I said earlier, is the lack of Flash on the ipad. I think the ipad is briliiant, but I couldn't bring myself to spend £400 on something that won't give me the full internet, especially seeing as I use youtube and BBC F1 sites alot, which both need flash to work properly. So, Sony S for me!
Watch out for the fanboys. Do your homework and get what suits your needs. No tablet is the right fit for everyone. Don't believe for a moment that the iPad 2 its superior in every way to the tablet s. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. look at the tradeoffs and decide what features are more important to you and make your choice based on that.
Have both in the house and yeah the UI from the iPad is nicer but for allround possibilities the tablet s is much better.Have both sitting on the table side by side every morning but I always pick up the Sony first to do my internet stuff cause the ipad is just so weak in that area.Like it's been stated here they both have their advantages and weaknesses but I still prefer the Tablet S,but that's only my opinion.

You really need to decide for your self. Most of the popular iPad apps are available on Android too. I haven't had too much problem in that area.
Android tablets are still young and have fairly small market share. You need to consider if you want to be an early adopter and go throughs some of the growing pains. Many of the people here are developers and want to support the platform and help increase marketshare, so yeah, we want you to buy an android tablet. Sony is my current recommendation.
While Android tablet *can* offer a better browsing experience, it can also hinder it. Many sites see 'android' and assume you are on a phone and send you to a mobile site without asking or giving you the option for desktop. Switching browsers can fix this and more sites are checking for android tablets, but its still a bit of a nuisance for now.

Well, to be honest, that sounds like the reviewer is a total Android fanboy in that case. Prime does not beat 'ipad in all ways'. Even the biggest fanboys in this forum would not say that Prime is better than an iPad is in every way.

Android vs. iOS is like religion and politics - you just don't go there. I'd never buy an Apple product because I can't stand their Orwellian control over both the h/w and s/w. But, for people who like things simple and thought out for them, iOS is a safe bet. Also, look at the price of a used TF1 vs. an iPad1. Apple sells more iPads in a week than Asus is projecting for all of 2012. Whether you like Apple or not they've built up quite a little empire of loyal fans. I just bought my niece a 32GB iPad2 because Garage Band doesn't exist for Windows or Android. So there are examples of things you can do on iOS that you can't on other platforms.

OS Functionality: Android
iOS is essentially a glorified app launcher. Which fine as far as it goes, because iOS has lots of good apps. But I like being able to use my tablet without needing to launch apps, and there's quite a bit I can do with my Transformer right from the home screen (see recent emails, Tweets, Facebook updates, calendar events, tasks, etc., create Evernote notes, etc.).

Not so sure about the gaming verdict there. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the iPad supports game controllers. Also it seems that I'm able to get a lot of the iTunes paid apps free in the Android Market.

Funny how every thread here turns into an android vs ios discussion I think that just shows that both systems are very good and really competing. Best situation for us the users. They race each other with new features and lower prices and we profit!
Anyways it all comes down to personal preference. For me the Prime beats the iPad in all ways. But there are so many reasons why people get tablets and everyone is looking for something slightly different...
-There is the "i buy every apple product" guy
-There is the "i have all other products from apple so i buy my tablet from them as well" guy
-There's the "everything must be shiny and sparkling" guy (that obviously buys apple products)
-There's the "i would never buy an apple product" guy
-There's the "omg i love the keyboard dock idea on the prime" guy (me)
-There's the "i wont buy a tablet without full sized USB port somewhere" guy (me)
-There's the "i want to use my tablet for more than media consumption" guy (me)
-There's the "i dont want to jailbreak my device to be able to use it properly" guy (me)
and so on and on... I think in the end Apple will have about the same spot they have in the PC market now. Why? They've put those great ideas out there with the iphone and the ipad and no one else had any comparable products at the time. This situation is called "Monopoly". You get huge sales by that. Imagine there would be only one car manufactor...
But while other companies like ASUS improve this idea by adding new stuff, Apple somehow keeps to the original idea. So many gamers are screaming for a hardware control method. Apple says you have touchscreen its awesome. Having a keyboard dock and full sized ports is awesome but Apple says you have touchscreen and cloud thing - thats better. Etc.
i find that old people, women, and kids are more suited for ios. While its a "glorified shortcut screen" its all they really need. Oh yea, and non nerdy guys too.

I guess anyone who does not like/ want to spend time on customizing the OS would love the iOS experience. Similar to what happens with Mac vs. PC. You want to customize and be able to change everything that you could possibly think of but with the possibility of messing up your system, get a PC/Android. You want an out of box experience which is pretty much smooth while only safely letting you stay within the virtual walls the engineers developed, get an Apple.

iPhone hit back strongly last quarter though, impressive for one company to out-perform every other company out there put together. But yeah it is inevitable, Android will chip more of that market share away in upcoming years as long as companies produce great phones and tablets.
I cannot resist pointing out that quality control plays a huge role in it though. If Android phones and tablets become known for quality hardware and build wise as much as Android itself has become a very solid and stable operating system, this will happen quickly. But if the 'best Android tablet' launch, like that of TF201, is continuously full of problems in the future, then it's basically Android shooting itself in the foot.

Hi guys,
Here is my short story why I have sold my Asus Prime. Some of you can lough at me because few days ago I was laughing at Ipad3. But I asked myself few questions... and changed my point of view totally.
Generally my first tablet was Asus Transformer. I liked it very much. Unfortunately in the first week after I got it I had to send it to RMA. I had dust under screen. I was mad...
After 4 weeks I get it back. After few next days I discover that it creaks - another reason to be mad for Asus.
But I kept it using. Meanwhile I bought Ipad2 just to test it. The first thing I noticed was that every game/app was designed to work on Ipad properly. Nice
graphics, fast and so on. I could not say that about Android and Asus Transformer. There were (there still are) so few apps/games that works in 1280x800 resolution.
Despite all those games and apps on Ipad2 few things forced me to sell it after 2 months of using:
- low resolution of ipad - this was the most annoying thing
- no flash (minor thing)
- no sdcard slot (then It was important for me - now it is not - why ? because I really do not use this... )
It was December 2011. I decided to wait for new Asus Prime. Tegra 3 I thought - man. That is going to be awesome.
In the late end of December I bought Asus Prime. First impressions - WOW!
And then:
- still only few apps/games for tablets
- my unit is creaking - AGAIN! (aaaarrrggghhhh!!!!)
- HDMI broke after 3 weeks! (aaaaarrrgggghhh!!!!)
- battery is drained after 5-6 hours of using (only browsing WWW)
So now when I see that Ipad3 has great Retina display am changing my way of thinking.
I have enough of Asus lies. Yes. I feel cheated by Asus. The battery was supposed to stand for 9 hours. I get 5 and sometimes 6. The same as it was in first transformer (my Ipad2 had 9-10).
I have enough of VERY poor quality of Asus products for 600$!
I have enough of laggy ICS - yes it is laggy as hell - especially when browsing
I have enough of 1280x800 resolution. It got to old...
Am not going to wait another few years for apps/games that are mainly designed for Tablets. I can imagine how long will it take to see apps for Asus Prime Infinity (1080P screen)...
Yes - am aware of this that Ipad3 does not support flash. But it not a big problem. Only 1 site I visit uses this technology. Yes - there is no sdslot in Ipad. But do I really need this? No I do not.
I asked myself a question. What is the most important for me in tablet:
- the highest resolution it can be - for now it is Retina
- I want to have A LOT of games/apps - for now iOS is the only option
- I want fast and smooth system - again iOS is the best. ICS is much more better than Honeycomb but it has no chance with iOS
- I want my tablet not to creak!!!
Am not using only theory. I had Ipad2. I know how it works. I know it has some limitations. But I want a tablet that has plenty of apps on it. I want tablet with super resolution. And I want a high quality products. Not Asus **** that creaks...
I will never ever buy anything that is made by Asus.
Of course I respect Android. This is VERY good system. Full freedom. But one thing kills this system. It is poor quality games/apps. They are fine for Phones with small screens. But how many of them works in full 1280x800 ? Few....
And that is why am changing my tablet.
I wonder how many of you are interested in deflecting to Ipad3?
PS - oh and I forget to mention about non working GPS and poor WI FI...

I'm not deflecting to Ipad but I do respect your viewpoint. my batteryvlasts 9-10hrs. and tablet doesn't creak. plus I have tons of great apps n games. in my Neo Geo emulator alone I have 34 games.
but I'm not posting to convince you otherwise of your experience. all I can say is good luck with it. make sure when you get one to check out ipadforums.net for all latest n greatest info on it. jailbreaking info and guides in there also.

Not I. I personally can't stand IOS and the resolution of the prime is more than fine for me. I have a 1080p TV for most of my movie watching, and mkv movies look perfect I think on the tab when I need it (IE Airplane). Prime is the best tablet I've ever used.
To each their own, hope the Ipad works out better for ya.
Well believe me. Am not happy about this. But I just feel bad with Prime. You know it is very expensive product and still I see no diffidence between TF101 and TF201. I like it but I have to sell it. It is so called toxic love - hahaha.

Hmm maybe because that is why the forums are for? Imagine 20% of people reading this thread wants to or already have exchanged their primes for ipads.

Deliberate downgrade of the camera to 5mp even though Apple use millions of 8mp versions for their iphones.
Pushing Face Time as a main feature then only using a VGA front facing camera.
No ability to upload to browser ie, adding photos to image hosts.
No ability to transfer files through Bluetooth.
No ability to connect to HDMI source without purchasing expensive peripherals.
No ability to plug in USB drive to transfer files.
No ability to plug in an SD or micro SD to increase storage capacity.
No access to the file system to access, move or delete files.
No ability to customise the homescreens with widgets or launchers.
No ability to use different icons without jailbreaking.
No Flash videos on websites.
Etc etc.
If Android ran their tablets with those issues, the OS would be slammed throughout the tech world. For some reason Apple reviewers don't mention any of these major shortfallings.

It's a known issue that if a reviewer posts anything apple does not like, they do not get review samples next time.
The truth is some people should use iOS. The OP is seemingly one of them. However I have to wonder about the lust for a high rez screen on a 10" device.. I wonder if he knows none of the software supports it yet.
The fact of the mater is right now a random person who buys a tablet is probably 75% of the time an iPad buyer.
However with so many people with android on phones, in time more will choose the same OS for a tablet.

But I also don't understand why you felt the need to post this thread. I am sorry you weren't happy with the Transformer Prime, but I don't know why you feel the need to justify your purchase of an iPad to anyone. It isn't helpful to people who read these forums looking for info on their Primes and I seriously doubt that the majority of people really care about what tablet that you find is right for you.
If you look at your poll now, you can see that the 20% of people who switched to an iPad is now a much smaller percentage. Why? Because this is an Asus Transformer Prime forum, not an iPad forum.
The funny thing that strikes me when someone is unimpressed with a product to the point of selling it for something else, i.e.: it's competitor, is that implied notion that the competitor's product is inherently better.
--The Prime may not have a display of the "New" iPad, but it is in it's own regard, awesome.
--I, like others have stated, consistently get 8.5 to 10 hours of use. Obviously, battery life depends on what you're doing...
Also, people seem to think that because it's an iPad that it just works...
IT IS SUBJECT TO THE SAME FAULTS AND FAILURES AS ANY OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICE! Meaning, sometimes it will work FLAWLESSLY, while other times you're hating yourself for buying a piece of sh!T.

Disclaimer: As I was reading over my post, I felt that I was really critical against Android/TFP users. But the only reason I am writing this whole comparison is because I want you guys to have the best experience. I didn't sit here and type this whole thing up trying to bash you guys or show off or anything. End/
So I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for doing this cause of all the Android fanboy vs iOS fanboy debates. But guess what, I have used Android and have been on XDA for years now and I now have an iPad, no hard feelings. Don't be fanboys of companies, be fanboys of good products.
Anyways, I'm gonna compare the TFP and the iPad 3 since I have owned both. PS, this is gonna be pro iPad so cover your eyes if you can't take my opinion.
These arguments are mostly gonna be Android vs iOS but since the TFP is the best Android tablet IMO and the iPad 3 is the best iOS, I will use them for reference.
App Availability
This is the biggest and most important difference. I still use an android phone because the apps on it are still ok. Not as good and polished as iOS apps but still manageable. However, tablets are a whole different story. Maybe just me telling you won't do any good. Just download iTunes and see for yourself. The number of tablet apps on iOS is amazing. They aren't blown up apps like the Android "tablet" apps. They really make good use of the bigger screen. I think that there are probably more retina ready apps (retina iPad came out 4 days ago) than there are tablet apps in android.
The problem is and will continue to be the fragmentation on Android. I suggest you to read about MikaMobile, creators of Battleheart, ZombieVille, etc halting android support. Basically, they said that it takes them way too much time and money to support Android due to all the different OS versions, screen sizes, hardware, etc. And until this is fixed, iOS will continue to get all the good apps which would in turn attract more customers, and this greater app support and the cycle repeats.
Smoothness
The iPad is really smooth as butter. While the TFP boasts all the hardware, I always had little lags here and there (scrolling in browser, reading large PDFs, moving between apps, etc). Again, there is no point in me telling you. Go to a store and try out the iPad. Almost never had any lag or stutters.
Sad to say but Android tablets aren't even close to what iOS tablets have to offer. I really cant see any reason why you would want an Android tablet over the iPad.
Reasons You Want Android Over iOS
1) Customization. Probably the most common argument Android users use.
-Widgets: Sure I miss them a bit but I will take good apps over widgets any day. Perhaps you spend too much time on your home screen staring at all your widgets and custom icons because you don't have any good apps.
-Custom roms/Tweaks: Can't really talk about custom roms since I have not tried any on the TFP. But I doubt it would be any faster than iOS. If you jailbreak your iPad, the customization isn't that bad, I would say better than Android actually. There are a lot of useful tweaks in Cydia that Android doesn't offer. IE, pull down in Safari to refresh page, Moving multiple icons at a time, No gravity on home screen, etc. I'm sure a rooted/unlocked Android could have those tweaks too but too bad there arent enough Android tablet users/devs.
2) Multitasking
This is actually one of the only advantages of Android. Android offers true multitasking while the iPad has pretty poor multitasking. Not much to say about that.
3) Price
This is the TFP forum so they should be about the same price. But i guess if you are getting something like the Kindle then the price is a deciding factor.
4) Keyboard + Ports
Yes, the killer feature of the Prime. Another one of the only reasons you would get TFP. However, you can check out Clamcase for iPads and it is actually better than the TFP dock in many ways minus the ports. If USB and sd ports are really that important and you dont want to use the ipad dongles then I guess this is another deciding factor.
5) Drag n Drop over iTunes
Advantage of TFP
I will be happy to respond to the typical "walled garden", "no customization", "no flash", "crappy hardware", "Android/Apple fanboy" comments.

After playing the new Mass Effect, Sky Gamblers, Updated Real Racing 2 & Updated Infinity Blade 2....I can honestly say that my new iPad smokes the Prime and Infinity Pad. The graphics are amazing!!!!
You might want to do a bit more reading into the MikaMobile situation.
It's not they aren't making money on Google market/play, nor is it porting or various hardware problem in later interview with the dev.
Returning briefly to what took up the majority of that 20% of their time dedicated to Android development, it was not related to fragmentation as some have asserted. The two activities that required the most time were the initial porting process (not shocking) and simple customer service (download and payment problems). The latter seemed to be a particular thorn in their side and of course is made all the more exasperating by the fact that those are in fact areas in Google’s control and not really something a developer should be dealing with at all. It’s hardly the first time I’ve heard that complaint from a developer and it is a subject worthy of discussion on its own at some point.

ill comment on your Ipad customization claim-
I've had an Ipad over 2yrs. jailbroken. so I know cydia and the other places very well. while cydia does have some cool tweaks to make Ipad more useful, its chump change compared to Android mods n tweaks after rooting.
Ipad has:
-no Overclocking
-no custom roms
-no memory tweaks
-no Widgets
-no undervolting for even better battery life with overclocking
-no Linux or Ubuntu can be loaded on it
-no way to make backup of the whole system on device itself
-no real customization or personalization lmfao device. all Ipad can do is change wallpaper. then if you jailbreak you can use the crappy icons or themes in there. even with those it still looks the same.
-no downloading file in stock browser, Safari
-no uploading files in stock safari
-no access to flash content. skyfire on Ipad blows. puffin browser decent bit slow as a mofo. I know, I have these apps. and Crash is a joke
-no great custom keyboards like android has.
- all apple keyboards blows. clamshell one is NOT better than transformer dock. how can you even claim that when it doesn't even have a built in battery. no USB ports. no full size SD card slot...apple peripherals blows hard. its no contest Prime has the superior keyboard. alot more functionality than apple keyboards can even dream of.
-no USB host capabilities on Ipad itself or dock. Prime can use mouse, a separate keyboard, external hard drives, etc... even apple adapter sux. all it allows you to do is access pictures. it doesn't even accept most forms of thumb drives because apple crippled the voltage output. therefore it won't even recognize devices if its not apple made. you can't even hook your phone up to Ipad and transfer files through USB adapter. it doesn't even recognize phone because it says it draws too much power.
-no ability to download attachments in native email app. you can't even create a new email, within email app, and add files or pictures to it. have to be jailbroken to partially do this. android does this out the box.
- crippled stock media player. apple only allows you to play mp4 out the box. you have to get other apps to play other formats. android/Prime plays most formats out the box.
-no real multitasking. On my prime I can use overskreen browser and surf the web while another app is opened. or like stick it media player. I can be surfing the web and watch movie at the same time with no issues. plus I float those apps anywhere on the screen I want.
-no native out the box file explorer. you have to jailbrake and get ifiles. android does this out the box.
-no optimized aspect ratio for watching movies. 4:3 aspect ratio is ratio of old a$$ television sets. you try to watch a movie and go fullscreen, it cuts off the image very badly and zooms up movie image and not as sharp and clear anymore. prime has perfect movie theatre aspect ratio. Far superior for watching movies and videos.
-safari browser not able to change user agent. most of the time it loads up mobile version of sites.
-no way to enjoy using device outdoors in the sun. its display isn't bright at all. even on highest brightness setting its hard to view outdoors. prime has no issue at all having ips+ technology. easily viewed outdoors on the brightest days.
-no developer support
-app non tablet apps look horrible resized. android does a way better job at resizing and still keeping clarity n detail of app.
-Ipad apps cost more than android version. I already compared since I have both units and over 150-200 apps on both devices.
-video conferencing far superior on Android. Android Skype, tango, fring, o'clock are better versions and perform better than IOS counterparts. I have all this apps on both devices. although my ipad1 doesn't have a cam, I'm still able to use the video chat and see the other person. I'm more so comparing quality of the video stream coming in. facetime blows because only enables chat to other IOS devices.
-NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT FOR GAMES. this is huge since Ipad tries to focus on gaming. this is what happens in locked down OS where they don't give you USB or BT host capabilities.
-Ipad apps actually crash quite frequently. instead of saying FC or would you like to close, it just crashes back to homescreen.
-new Ipad no longer has the thin and light form factor like the price. its just as thick and as heavy as the first Ipad. major step backwards for apple. especially how ipad2 was advertised by apple so much for being thin and light.
-not able to create apps and developement on the device itself. Android now has this ability and apps to develop for other android devices on the tablet itself.
-not able to go to most movie and videos sites and watch. doesn't support flash.
-Ipad YouTube app is far inferior to android one.
-no system monitor apps on Ipad. no real ones to let you monitor CPU usage, memory usage, etc..
-very large PDF files load up and turn pages very slowly on Ipad. my prime with same large PDF file plows through it easily. example: I have the complete Service manual for my dogs magnum. same manual service center uses. PDF file is over 300mb and several thousand pages long. I can use it easier and faster on my prime as I put it on both devices.
-Ipad doesn't even recognize all forms of photos/pictures. especially ones coming from android phones. apple has their own specific formats it'll only recognize. prime recognizes all picture formats.
-less than a handful of processor optimized apps and games. 99% of apps n games look and perform just as good on my ipad1 as they do with ipad2 or new Ipad. developers makes the apps n games for all generations. none hardly take advantage. so Android version of the same games end up looking better on Prime. more visual effects, details, etc.. not our fault apple or its developers too dumb not to optimize at least some apps for newer processors ipad2 and new Ipad has.
-no way to play another opponent over local wifi network like Android. on apple you can only play online. no local network playing support.
-apple has to use iTunes to transfer media, movies, make backup,etc...android can do all of thieving device itself.
I own both devices. for me, the negatives outweigh ipads positive. Ipad a straight up consumption device. Android is more productive and do things apple can only dream of out the box or jailbroken. Ipad gets no love here. This Android country. Prime territory. so if you expect people to give you props for your new Ipad, you are mistaken. now that you have Ipad, you might as well join ipadforums and forget about xda. there is no support or help here for apple products. any talk of apple or ipads will always be greeted with beef up here. no way around it. xda not for Ipad users. might as well ditch your android phone also and get an iPhone. so you can become a full blown apple fanboy..lmfao.
As you see Ipad/IOS has a very long list of negatives that I wasn't even done with yet. My negatives for ipad is far numerous than your positive points. i could've easily doubled that negatives list in size if i felt like continuing to list negatives. plus your comparison wasn't unbiased or even attempted to be. so expect the heat to come and thread probably shut down eventually. the ones like this always do. Mass effect coming also to android and will be tegra3 optimized. meaning we will have better looking and playing version. just like shadowgun and Riptide.

don't take the apple fanboy comment personal. comes with the territory. I am a fan of great products also. So based on my list of negatives for Ipad/IOS, I'd say I made a great decision sticking with Android and Prime. Me and alot of others don't easily fall for the me 2 hype. Ipad is a great device and the graphics are killer. For me though, Prime and Android is more well rounded. ill take far superior CPU and computational power anyday over just a focus in graphics. Life is not all about games you know.

I can use vPlayer and let the video play in the background. Download stuff? Access my NAS without hacks and tricks? Watching every Video (besides 10bit) on this planet? Hey, i can even watch a straight blu-ray rip with DicePlayer.
I don't need Millions of apps. Give me Apps which are awesome and gamechanging. Who cares about "garage band"? I think people will be blast when they see that Android user can use the inet in a PC-style.

Sorry i dont have an ipad3 yet but have read many official reviews that its a tiny bit faster than ipad2, sharper, better camera/video capture, and high resolution. In my opinion, I dont see the point of very high resolution on a small 9` inch screen. A 1080x720 would be plenty enough. A resolution like the ipad3 belongs on a 60` hdtv screen , not on a small screen. Seems like a marketing strategy by apple that serves no real purpose. The cpu is a modded a5 or core2 duo to accomodate the quadcore graphic chip.
Ipad3 beats tfp in the graphics department, but tfp definitly beats ipad3 in the cpu performance. Dont believe me.... go read about the benchmark. Xgary you should really try rooting your tfp and flash the rom to virtuous prime . I just did it yesterday and can honestly say what a big improvementt with the browsing experience and swiping between pages. The webpages are opening up much faster, more responsive, and feels a lot smoother. I played with tfp tablet for a total of 7 hours today to make sure i wasnt dreaming. Xda developers did an awesome job and they werent lieing when they said the rom will maker your tablet run faster and smoother.

What about general functionality? smoothness and beauty are nice to have features to maximize the user experience but functionality is the must-have base ... I don´t own an Ipad, only read articles about it and look some review and test videos to build my own opinion. If i then compare this information with this thread, 2 totally different images of the same product can be seen.
I mean sure there are lots of high-quality tablet apps and games for iOS and everything is very smooth, but to be honest, thats the only really positive thing about the new Ipad. I saw several reviews showing crashes of system apps, for example app store, game center and so one ... There are retina games available, which seems to cause heat problems and frame dropping after playing this ones for longer times ... In general there is an unbiased study available, that iOS apps crashes more often then Android apps.
One big task a tablet should be able to offer in perfection and mostly unindependant is browsing the web, in my opinion, a tablet should be able to raplace a desktop pc in matter of browsing! While Android tablets offer flash support, good working html5 and javascript, the new ipad is far away from that. No flash at all and many bugs in html5 and java script, for example try to post a comment on the youtube website in desktop view so html5 is used. it will be impossible, it will be impossible to do anything on the site, buttons are only place holders lol while the iOS youtube app is very ****ty compared to ICS one ... (as intended from google ...) For me a multimedia tablet really is useless if i only can work with some parts of the web ...
the ipad misses a stand-alone concept in general, that starts with the fact that you are not able to use your new Ipad without having a PC with itunes to activate that ...
You also underrated the port-topic regarding to the new Ipad. If i read all the opinions it seems that gaming is a really huge topic if it comes to iOS, so the lack of generic usb host feature that allows to connect input methods to controle the amazingly-looking games is a big FAIL, epic graphic engine is useless if the games must be controlled with emulated touch controls ... in most cases ...
Then there is that huge amount of limitation on iOS, if i get it right i´m even not able to use a .zip attachement received by mail (in the build in email app), thats just absurd, same with the fact that i would not be able to free copy and paste text between several apps, for me that are real must-have features to be able to do some work on that things ...
Then the form factor, funny idea of apple to choose a format which is not able to play 95% of the multimedia content for which it is build for in native aspect ratio (without black bars).
Then the usual standards that could be expected in multimedia tablets, like generic hdmi and the ability to just clone the screen, again try it with your ipad that way ...
And i really could continue, pls don´t get me wrong, i don´t say that iPad is a bad product, but in my opinion it is not "more perfect" than an android tablet and in my situation, the disadvantages of an Abdroid tablet(like a milisecond of lag every 30 minutes, or that i have to wait until 100+ hd games are available for android tablets and so one) are much more compensatable than the major feature lack of iOS ...
I'm just curious to why these posts keep popping up? I guess I just thought anyone on a developer forum would already know what ios has to offer. I mean for me yes, apple makes pretty nice hardware but I cant stand ios. Also I find it funny that everyone claims no bias when there clearly is bias one way or another, and yes I read the edit. Depends. I don't need millions of apps either. but find me Android apps that are as good as Notability for note taking, Safari for browsing, iBooks for PDFs, Flipbook for news, Tweetbot for Twitter, etc. Then what about all the good games that are almost always available on iOS first? All the game loft games (I didn't have to beg game loft to support my iPad like we had to for TFP , mass effect, Fruit ninja online, Infinity blade, Temple Run (I waited for months for them to release on android) ZombieVille 2.

Lol benchmarks again. I always looked at benchmarks too. Then I played with an iPad and switched over right away. You know, the reviewers don't all praise the iPad because theyre fanboys, it actually is the leader. Besides, I doubt the custom rom runs as fast as my iPad but let's say it does. Why do I have to void my warranty and then have to flash a rom to get a smooth device?

Coming from someone with 80 posts. Are you paid by ASUS to defend their product? I'm sure they invested all this time into me posing as a fake xda member and posting for years and on the TFP forums way before it was even out so that one day I could bash the product. Yep, Apple is genius. They also pay every single reviewer, iPad user in the world. That is why they praise the product, not because it is good.

And I care about benchmarks because? I wish I had my TFP with me so I could show you how I get little lags here and there and how reading my 1000 page PDF textbooks lag everytime I scroll to the next page even tho I tried adobepdf, ezpdf, and repligo.

I don't think they are as "full" of complaints as the TFP did with Bluetooth, wifi, gps, screen problems, etc. The iPad has a huge userbase so it is expected to see complaints. But guess what? Got a problem with your iPad? Go to an apple store and they will give you a new one. What about TFP? RMA and wait a few weeks.

Yea name me some. i have all of the Gameloft games, Infinity blade (how is your bladeslinger or whatever, newest Angry bird, fruit ninja, temple run, a ton of ea games. Name me some good games on android that I can get on iOS.
