Stock messaging app - HTC EVO 3D

Is there a way to completely remove the stock messaging app without messing anything else up? If so, what do I remove? I'm rooted tuning warm two point three. Thanks in advance!

If you have Titanium, you can just freeze it and it won't show in your app drawer. I am not sure if you can remove it and still have messaging work, but here is a link to remove it from the zipped ROM via 7-Zip file manage(free) that Scott put together. Check it out as you can remove things you don't want and add things to the ROM zip to your liking. He also updates on what to leave alone. http://www.scottsroms.com/showthrea...od-CleanROM-before-installing-v1-0-10-12-2011

Completely removing the stock mms.apk will totally break all messaging function.

Damn, I guess I will freeze it and see what it does, thanks guys

When you say will do the same thing as well are you talking about removing from the app drawer or killing all messaging functionality?

i was able to remove mms.apk with no ill effects, i used Handcent as replacement. ymmv

Have you tried to send an MMS? The last time I did this back on the OG Evo, SMS worked fine, but MMS wouldn't work anymore.

DJ05 Clean .9 MMS Fix

Here's a way to fix MMS on DJ05 Clean .9. Clean comes with the AOSP messaging app, but I use handcent, neither of which would send. Today I deleted the AOSP mesaging app
-adb shell
# rm -r /system/app/Mms.apk
#exit
and then pushed the MMS app from deodexed stock DJ05. Here's the link - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1185896/Fascinate/Mms.apk
Take this app and push it to the /system/app directory with ADB (I didn't try installing with root explorer, or ASTRO)
-Also, I'm sperman on the IRC, so PM me if you need help
-http://alltechdaily.com/2010/12/fixing-mms-on-clean-9/ <- Has my email, you can also comment (or check my forum soon )
I'm not even sure you need to delete the old Mms.apk as when i did this i just did
Adb push Mms.apk /system/app and it worked fine.
I use the stock Mms.apk on clean .9. I hate the bubbles, but like the direct unlock with the puzzle lock screen.
Are you talking MMS as in pictures? Or texting (SMS)
When using root explorer, I get a message saying there isn't enough room to paste the apk?

I'm running that rom and i havent installed any updates. MMS works on both the stock messaging app and handcent for me. is it kernel specific? or did i just get lucky somehow?

When you install the ROM it gets overwritten automatically It's not like we're doing it on purpose.
Thanks OP, this fixed my issue as well!

I am having the mms-only problem. I am using the 100% original JT super clean 0.9 rom with no extra SMS/MMS apps added or removed. My SMS works great, no duplicates or fails since updating to all the DJ05 stuff, but in-network MMS is completely broken. I tried applying the Mms.apk replacement and it doesn't seem to have worked. I am using the 1212_test kernel, I tried the stupidfast kernel but the battery life was terrible so I prefer this one.
edit: never mind about the touchwiz tray layout, got that figured out.
To confirm, I flashed voodoo 5 stock yesterday ans mms still worked with that fix in handcent.

TITANIUM BACKUP USERS! Which apps do you Freeze?

Was just curious...
I currently have
Android Keyboard 2.3.6 - Don't use it
Badge Provider1.0
Calendar 1.0 - Theres a 1.1 I'm using.
ChocoEUkor 1.0
Clock 1.0 - Theres 2 of these...
Com.Samsung.app.playreadui 2.3.6
com.samsung.inputeventapp 1.0.0
CSC 1.0
Mobile Print 1.4.1 - Don't use it
Pico TTS 1.0 - Don't use it
Samsung Keypad 2.3.6 - Don't use it
Samsung TTS 1.0 - Don't use it
Service Mode 2.3.6
Speech Recorder 2.3.6 - Don't use it
wipeoutreciver 1.0
So what do you all have disabled and have you noticed any gains in performance/battery life?
I don't freeze a single thing....I download every rom and completely tear it apart. Anything that would be froze I just completely delete the APK....pretty much every one in your list and a hundred more. I also delete all the apps that installed to the system such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.....and just reinstall from the market. Makes the rom super light shedding crazy MBs....no running system crap....pretty much if I clear my ram there is five things running in services until I launch something....I have been on Omega for over a month and a half with NO issues whatsoever running Codeworx kernel and getting 16 hours up with 5 1/2 hours of screen on and about 45 minutes of voice calls not to mention texts all day.

Impressive.
That list has served me well for a long time now....wish I had one back in the beginning of the Captivate days..would have saved me a bunch of time I wasted rescuing my phone....sure miss the fun though...the suspense of uninstalling the APK that was going to kill it. Kind of like guitar hero....it just wasn't as fun after you're good at it.

i only freeze something as a test for battery life. Once I know that there aren't any ill effects of freezing it, I'll remove it. So my rom's dont really have anything frozen, unless I'm testing it.

Not too much theming, I've looked everywhere to change my bubble colors and most zips I've found weren't working. Here's one made from stock messenger app on the Galaxy Note. http://db.tt/Ao40ZDFN
REMEMBER: Make a .bak of your old MMS.apk push it to /system/app and in case it doesn't work just revert to your old one, if it fails to work PM me your MMS.APK and I will make a new one for your specific ROM.

Pushed the app and got it to load up this time... I had to remove the mms.odex file from the app folder. Thank you for your time and efforts on this.
Everything was looking okay, UNITL I composed a new message and selected a recipient. I get a crash every time.

Getting the bubbles back is an easy fix. Using an app like Root Explorer, make your way into System, then the CSC folder. In here, you'll see customer.xml. Rename this file to customer.xml.bak, and restart. Voila, notification bubbles!

Is there maybe something lines that in Customer.xml to activate the bubble, but allow us to kill the instruction?
Just for the information, I'm running CleanROM 3.5, and I don't get the tutorial notifications. Might just be ROM specific. I don't know what lines in the actual .xml file trigger the notification bubbles, I just know that this method helps to get them back. Sorry, guys!

It is the existence of Customer.xml itself that hides the bubbles. You can delete the contents of the file and it still doesn't bring back the bubbles. There is probably a settings line that needs to be added to show them.

On a rooted Stock ROM you can freeze the Help 1.0 application inside of TitaniumBackup. After a reboot you will have to go through the three lock screen tips once more but then you should not see them again.

I find the app works, but unless I freeze the stock messaging app in TiB I receive duplicates for each message. So if you freeze it everything works right, but now I have the problem that lightflow keeps repeating and I cant clear the notification sounds unless its from the stock app. I could just disable lightflow, but I work in a loud environment and I kind of need it to keep repeating or else i usually wont hear or even feel it 1st time. That's all i use lightflow for, is the repeating sound and vibration, the LED's are disabled. If anyone knows another app out there that can do the same thing that would be nice.

Or not, since MMS is really shoddy and is completely disabled without paying, not to mention it being really slow if you have many messages.
