[Q] Where I can make a Preorder online?? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

since im from puerto rico I cant expect to be release the same day that in USA
compusa is out of stock
tigerdirect out of stock
bestbuy out of stock
amazon out of stock
so where I can make a Preorder online??

try J&R Music and Computer World, http://www.jr.com/asus/pe/ASU_TF201B1_SL_GY/

Try CDW also. its about 50 bucks more for the same at best buy, but i think its still pr-orderable. And by 50$ i mean Bestbuy doesn't add shipping cost, these guys do.

Weird that CDW has the Champagne model at $532 and the Grey model at $509.

Think I'm going with JR..found a coupon code for $5 off, guess that's something hah.
....That I couldn't use when paying through amazon payments. Ah well. I wanted amazon for the points and guarantees...

I would stay the hell away from CDW. Lots of their products are drop shipped, and my first purchase was delayed by a month thanks to a idiot sales rep. And I was charged about $100 in extra bank fees because they demanded wire transfer.

[Q] cost of customs for SGS2 from U.K. to U.S.?

Anyone knows how much do we have to pay in customs if we import a SGS2 from the U.K. on release day? I am looking at purchasing one once I get a good review of the GPS performance and want to make sure I am not surprised with any hidden cost.
unless you live in new york, you dont have to pay any. you just pay for shipping, i ordered from clove.co.uk, and there was no tax, or customs charges, only a shipping fee of 14 their money. however mobilecityonline.com is US based, and is cheaper than clove, you will pay 699, no tax, free shipping, no international hassle. the only reason i went with clove was because they will get it to me anywhere from 2-4 days faster
edit, i just noticed you wont be ordering the day they get released, then it would be faster to order from mobilecityonline, because they will receive stock from uk, which will take a few days to ship, but after that, you can order overnite delivery if you live in the US, so i suggest mobilecityonline.com

MobileCityOnline has free shipping on pre-orders. But no ETA. Yes, it's 699 but no certain date when they receive stock.
I also ordered from Clove and it's about $744 with 2-4 day shipping. I hope it'll arrive by the end of that week. Also, I think there's some currency fee charged by your card issuer. Maybe 3%?
Handtec is slightly cheaper but they've been inconsistent with stock date.

thats if you order from mobilecityonline, if you order from clove there wont be any tax. the tax is only from mobilecityonline because theyre actually newyork based, so newyork residents have to pay =/ not sure who would be cheaper in this instance, hmm
thanks everyone
That was one of my worries, at least I can breath now
Now to see if the GPS performs good or not. The first SGS let a sour taste in my mouth.
Ok, so the sellers that can ship to the U.S. that I have so far are:
clove.co.uk (444.00 euros + 14 euros shipping = 458 euros)
mobilecity.com (699.99 dollars + 0 shipping)
handtec.co.uk (515.99 euros + 12.99 euros shipping = 528.98 euros)
expansys.com (519.99 euros + ?? shipping)
expansys-usa.com (749.99 dollars + ?? shipping)
Watch out, UK still uses pounds, not euros
So it's actually 14% more expensive (1GBP=1.14EUR)

I tried figuring out where it's cheapest, realized that I was using euros instead of pounds, and gave up.

Is it an international warranty? From my previous experience with Samsung products (laptops, not phones), the warranty would cover the item in the locale where it was purchased, which in this case would be the U.K. no?

Clove just emailed saying if there's an issue with the device, it can always be sent back to them.
They didn't mention any other details. It sounds pretty vague so I guess I'll have to deal with either SquareTrade or Ensquared.

Guys, i want to make sure i've got it correctly: if I'm buying from UK (expansys or handtec) and ship it to USA address not in New York, in my case Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, then i wont pay any US taxes and customs, and expansys's price (which exclude EU VAT while shipping to US) + shipping costs will be my final price?
Price of phone plus shipping is what t
I paid. Shipped to Florida with nn tax.

[TIPS] Where are YOU going to buy your Evo 3D?

Sprint and target are offering 150 for used evo 4g, which isn't really a bad deal if you're evo is bad condition, but if yours is in good condition you can easily get 200, probably 250, and a slight chance at 300 if you post at the right time and include the right stuff.
Now there's also radioahack who is offering a whopping 100 for your evo. Like I said above if yours is in good condition go with Craig's or eBay, if not go with target or sprint. $100 ? Really radio shack?
Last of all is best buy. I'm not quite sure about there buy back program but its probably similar
Edit: wirefly is also sellin it right now for 179.99, but according to user RDCRDS, they ill jack I up to 300 if you switch the phone to another line. So for those upgrading your mom/brother/daughters lines, don't go through wirefly.
If you decide to sell your Evo through inline services, I highly recommend starting with craigslist. There are no fees or taxes, but the buyers are usually cheap compared to eBay buyers. With eBay you get a larger customer base and your item will sell for more, BUT and this a big but, sir mix-a-lots type of butt, eBay and PayPal combined, charge an arm and leg for their services. Those fees can be paid back with in 30 days so you can take them out of ur next paycheck to make your self feel better.
Heres a link to an eBay and PayPal fee calculator. If your start your item at 100 and it sells for 270 plus 10 shipping and handling, your total fees will be about 35 bucks
Once you sell, I recommend buying from sprint if the instant rebate service they're offering is still available at the time of launch. The tax charged on these phones is based on the full retail price and sprint usually has the cheapest out of all of the others.
I personally will be buying fromnbest buy because I put 50 bucks down on may 5th to pre order mine through that "secret pre order" thing they were doing.
So where are you guys going to buy from?

I think this is a pointless thread and is really irrelevant based upon the title. Ill humor you though. ATM im going with Best Buy but if sprint expands their new activation credit from another carrier thing that gives you $125 off the phone then it will be Sprint and the Sprint store I am near is not doing Pre-orders.

Much better thread then the another released date one.
So what you are saying is if Best Buy sells the phone for an extra $100 then everyone else, say $599, that is the price I will be paying tax on? Do you have to pay the tax on the full price of the device anywhere you go? If that is the case, I wish I didn't put $50 down at BB because that just seems wrong!
Can someone confirm this is how it works....

Its to what YOU pay. Lets say sprint is the only one that gave an instant rebate and all other places you have to mail it in. $200-50=150*1.07(for 7%)=$160.50 vs 200*1.07=214-50=164. OK so the difference is 164-160.5=$3.50. So it costs you
roughly a gallon of gas. Nothing to fret about. Also Best Buy has reward zone stuff and well the people that work there usually aren't as dumb as the people that work in a sprint store.
Also in reference to your $100 more that would cost you $7 in tax. Basically take the difference and multiply it by your tax. add the 1 in front of the decimal to add the tax or add a 0 to find out how much the tax is.

I understand the math but thought I would be paying the tax on $200 and not on $600 from Best Buy. So it is actually $400 more then I ws expecting to pay tax on and we are about .0875% here. If you trade in your device, do they give you the tax for it like when you trade in a car?
when I preordered mine at best buy the guy who rang me up told me that the gift card is refundable. I'm pretty sure bsed on past experience that best buy is going to charge 599 for full retal and sprint is going to charge 499. So pretty much you're looking at a 10 dollar dfference if the tax rate in your area is 10%! 50-60 dollars.
Wow that's pretty much the 50 down payment

i'm gonna order from my sprint premiere account on the 21st (gonna check @ midnight, i know, terrible)
and i should get no later then the 23rd.
im gona get mine at best buy because in oregon i can get a real deal. probobly around 250 with my 2 year upgrade in september
I already purchased two from wirefly. 179.99 no tax, free shipping and 50 bucks off when used with my BofA add it up. I might have to wait a few extra days after launch but I am patient. So out the door 129.99. This is of course upgrade price.
I went in to Sprint to preorder mine today. This is a corporate store and I asked about the mail in rebate, he told me they are going to be using mail in rebates again with the EVO 3D. He may not have been right, but I do remember when Sprint stopped mail in rebates they said it would be temporary.

I have read elsewhere on here that Best Buy charged people tax on the total cost of the phone. I have no reason to disbelieve these people but that was not my experience. When I purchased my evo from BB last year, I was only charged tax on what I actually paid for the phone. I'm not complaining but I do wonder why this is not uniform all over.

It depends on the state. From what I've read, that's how it works in California. Stores don't get to decide how they charge sales tax on items people buy...state/local government does that for them and they just pass it along to us .

That's only if you order online I think. I recently upgraded one of my lines and had to pay the $18 'upgrade fee'. I tried a couple times to get them to credit it back since I've never had to pay an activation fee because of my work discount, but they just told me their policies changed and it was a 'valid' fee lol. They said the only time it was not charged was online orders only. I can activate/switch as many phones as I want using the online activation thing and not get charged...but having the guy at the store punch in a few numbers costs me $18.
Just Bought mine from WireFly moments ago, $179.99 Free Shipping.
Wirefly is ok but if you have a problem with the phone it is 100% harder to get it fixed replaced because they do not have local stores.
For 20$ more ill go with best buy.Plus if in 5 months if you take the phone off that line they can hit you up for 300$
I got 1 evo from them and had a lot of problems.

[Q] Importing experience

Hi there
Has anyone who has imported a galaxy tab 10.1 from the states to Europe/UK comment on their experience please, ie how much was duty, tax, VAT, where from etc.
Its just that Im planning on buying one from ebay US since the tab isnt probably going to arrive here in France till after september and I've already been waiting to buy a tab since the original 7 inch tab came out and cant wait anymore!
cheers
You will pay a hefty premium on eBay, sellers look like they are charging way over retail, plus tax when it arrives with you.
It's a bit early for anyone to have any experiences yet, unless they got one from Best Buy in NY last week, but then they'd have probably brought it back in person and may have avoided taxes.
I ordered mine from Amazon via a mail forwarder, should be with me by the middle of next week. Expecting to pay around ~25% of the value in taxes and duty, so anything less than that is a bonus. Still works out to about the same price as the wifi Xoom over here, so I'm happy.
You will need to do research for your country as to what is charged if you want to have any hope of an exact price.
Great I found this thread !!
Amazon isn't having issues shipping to mail forwarders right? Because best buy is, also amazon selling white or metallic grey?
thanks in advance
Cheers

There is no import duty on the tablet in the UK, but you will pay VAT at 20%. A guy on these forums posted about www.bundlebox.com which is a forwarder. Apparently they offer warranty cover as well. We are discussing it over here:

White are BB exclusive so if it's from anywhere but BB they are metallic grey plasic made to look like metal.
Which mail forwarder do you use?
And which method did Amazon use to ship your item to the mail forwarder?
I have setup mail forwarder (BongoUS.com), but I don't sign the USPS form 1583. So, the mail forwarder cannot accept item shipped via USPS. Anything else, UPS or FedEx are OK.

I'm using Comgateway as the freight forwarder to ship my tab to Australia. I've used them several times and the service was great. They are based in Portland, Oregon..so you don't have to pay any state sales tax. They will ship your item through DHL.
Amazon used ONTRAC when they sent my order and it reached CGW on Friday morning.

Ok, so what will you do if the item is faulty?
You are asking about warranty
Of course this is the risk for people who import because as we all knew, the GT10.1 does not have international warranty.
It is a gamble, but it is not the end of the day.
You can return it, but you must pay the shipment your-self. More or less like this. Fried forwarder will handle return.
So, it is your choice.
It is a big gamble in terms of cost. If it is OK, then good! If it is not OK, it means you must spend more money (return processing).
NOTE: I checked comGateway.com, it seems OK, but I don't find any business address or customer support phone numbers. This makes me think to use their service, although it should be OK (I read some reviews). But, I want to be able to contact them quickly (by phone) if anything bad happens.

Electronics are late & overpriced here, so I guess it's a risk I'm willing to take when importing stuffs If, the product is faulty...most probably will try to contact samsung or return it to amazon.
Ive been looking into the forwarder Viaddress. Has anyone else used them or heard anything about them? They advertise themselves as being much better than the others. Also Im not keen on filling out the 1583 form so Im thinking about using Tigerdirect as they use UPS to ship items as opposed to Amazon where you cant choose your carrier.
update: from what Ive read, Viadress doesnt seem to be a very trustworthy service. I think Im going to go with one of the ones thats been mentioned here instead.
I am going to use TigerDirect as well for UPS shipment.
And for the forwarder, I use BongoUS.com. This is my first time experience.
So far they are ok, support responded my questions quickly, also checked their live chat. And they have phone number where you can contact, also the company address is clearly visible in their website.

However, to use that, you must pay one time fee $5 (no monthly fee) and your credit card will be verified (by sending a small amount $0.1 - $1.0 and you need to tell them that).

Im looking at using Bundlebox now. They seem very good. All tax/duties are included. Its going to cost me 559euros all up for the 32GB model. I think thats pretty good. How much is it costing you? btw I think we're having the same conversation over 2 threads lol
I don't like the included tax with the forwarder.
Because there is chance their calculation is wrong? Or double charged by the tax office in our country?
So, I want the forwarder to not include the tax. The custom will charge the tax anyway.
Seems safer to me.
I have no idea how much in total because I don't know how to calculate the tax in NL.
I could assume VAT 20% though ... shipping cost to NL would be around $50. .... So, ($500 + 20% * $500) = $600 + $50 shipping = $650 USD = 454 euro ... not bad.
But again, I don't know the tax/duty, never done this before.

There is no duty in France but there is VAT/tax. Calculated on their site its 95euro, which is around the 18.6% VAT charged on goods+shipping costs etc. So its correct. And even if when it arrives I have to pay more, I can just refuse it (unless its only a couple of euros)
On the bundlebox site they show you the tax/duty by country
From their site for NL:

Thanks for the calculator, I found there is no duty as well. So, it's good
I will order this evening at TigerDirect.
And you? Made up your mind?

Isn't Amazon listed on BundleBox as one of the most popular stores used? If so, surely you can use Amazon?
does anyone know the dimensions of the package? also check out this one

Walmart is selling for $199

Its been a while since I bought a phone and forgot that walmart usually sells them cheaper. Not only is the rebate instant you also pay $50 less. I am sure many people know this but a heads up for someone like myself who hasn't bought a phone in the past year.

it goes threw some online company, not walmart, just a heads up
(unless they have them at the store, not sure about that)
I was wondering the same thing - I think it's thru LetsTalk.com. As of yesterday, the brick and mortar stores here in Phx did not have them. I got tired of waiting and ordered it thru Customer Loyalty. However, I bought my Sensation from Walmart and they have a good return policy along with no restocking fee. I would definitely buy again from them.

$80 back from Bestbuy

Frys Electronics is advertising the GS2 for $199.99. Took the ad into best buy and they priced matched. $80 + the tax back in my wallet.
Frys sale valid through 11/3.
Costco+Amazon have it for $150? Costco also includes a case and car charger...
Sam's Club \ Walmart sells it for $150. Best Buy matched Sam's for me...

OK that makes more sense. Sam's only charges tax on the sale price too so keep that in mind. Either way, good price at Fry's.

If you buy one of these phones from Frys, or Best Buy, and five months down the line the speakerphone stops working, for example. Can you call AT&T and request a warranty replacement? Or do they somehow know the phone wasn't purchased through them, even though it's got their branding all over it?
Also, why can't I find the GS2 at any stores in Southern California?

Shouldn't matter where you bought it and they may not even do anything anyway without insurance. You may get stuck calling Samsung for warranty service.
Try Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. I got my SGS2 at the Sam's Club in Palmdale for $148 and change + tax.
Does amazon price match?
Keep on mind that best buy's price match is only good if the store you want to match has a location within 25 miles of the store you are at. You might get lucky and get a clueless csr but I doubt it. (There are no Fry's in South Carolina.)

$80 out of the door price
I told the guy to do a Walmart Price match 149.99 just to save 50 bucks. However, the sale guys kept taking on the phone (with his girlfriend may be ) and only punched in 49.99 + 30 tax = $80. I kept my mouth shut just to save another $100
Sweet, thanks for this
Thanks for the heads-up. just went to best buy and got myself some cash back.
It's always fun when you have to tell people what their return policy is....
BB-"sorry the return on cell phones is only 14 days"
me-"thats not what it says on the back of the receipt"
BB-"oh.....*looks at receipt* i guess you're right. I can take care of that for you"
