Hi All,
Ever since I debranded my phone when I first got it, I almost constantly get "H" rather than "3G" in my home. However, lately I have been getting a mixture of H and 3G. Is AT&T "downgrading" their network or something?! Knowing that they are crappy, I would not be surprised if they are actually starting to "cap" or "throttle" the speed of their network in some areas.
Anyone else experience a similar thing?
No they didn't. H comes in when you do something like go on the browser. Otherwise it just says 3g but its really h

That's the thing, even when I go on the browser it sometimes stays on 3G.
Afaik they are not throttling their service on the 3g end only when they light up the lte. Mine has been consistently h unless it's idle as someone suggested.

Sometimes. Not since switching from Rendeiros last rom to his latest. I would reboot then try it again with wat u were doing. That worked for me

Yep same here. 3g as I type this, obviously not idle... Been seeing it more lately but not all the time

Hi All,
I have an AT&T Note. Both phones of course get AT&T's "4G." With both of these phones I have regular issues of data slowing to upwards of 3000ms Ping, speeds around 10-150kbps download, and 10-50kbps upload. How is this possible? It's driving me nuts, because when the damn thing works, it flies, but when it doesn't the speeds are so slow it is pretty much unusable.
EDIT: Also, on my phone the ping is always around 190ish when working well, whereas his is usually around 95. We do not live in an LTE area.
Are both on a 4g lte plan u need to go in to a att store cause thats what happen to me

I just called, and I do have that plan. Even though I am not in an LTE area, should I have an LTE sim?
Ok not sure if anyone asked this question I know that the phone has 4G capabilities but does it have 3G as well? I know it was stated that it did in the article to get the 4G for T-mobile service, but after doing the flash I only notice 4G. Another question does the 4G kill the battery a lot faster because I know for sure I don't get 13 hours out of my phone as stated.
If it isn't LTE, it isn't 4G. Tmobile and AT&T non LTE 4G is just 3G, at best 3.5G and it does not use much more battery.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
3G 4G same thing pretty much if u need to ask about it. 3g is umts. And 3.5g is hspa.
T-Mobile does not have real 4G. They use 3.5. So what ur asking when you see 4G your really on 3G or 3.5G

Thanks Guys for the input!!!
I have tried both T-mobile SGH-T989 KID and T-mobile SGH-T989 VKL1 modems/radios and the speeds are about the same, 1mbps down and 0.03mbps up.
I tried on both Stock ROM and SAUROM and both are similar speeds. I also tried switching from GSM/HSPA to HSPA only but HSPA only runs at edge speeds.
Signal strength is 4 out of 5 bars where I tested.
Are there any other modems/radios I can try?
Thanks in advance.
really? here u go before people start bashing on u for not searching

Use the Telus radio instead and also replace your build.prop file with the modified one you can find in the forum. I get 10Mbps down 2Mbps up usually with this setup.
haha i guess i missed the first half of ur post sorry, my data was good for the first week now im getting slow speed also ill try the telus one and piston back

Sim is a 2G sim? WHAT????
I cleared cache and flash the Telus radio and tested the speed and it's still the same speed as the other modem/radios. I even tried the other modems again and still no difference.
I put the sim into my Sensation and tested but the speeds I was getting were 1-2Mbps Upload and 0.2-0.6Mbps download. What the heck was happening with my data speeds and I have not even reached half my Throttling limit.
I called T-Mobile, the CS said that my sim was a 2G sim and they would send me a new sim. What the heck? I was given a new sim last year when I went to the T-Mobile store and complain about the slow speeds I was getting on the G2X. The sim is definitely NOT a 2G sim as I was getting 10Mbps down and 1.2Mbps up.
This morning on my commute, I tested a couple of times on my Sensation and my download speeds are now back to 10Mbps down.
I left my Note home so I will test when I get back.
its definitely the phone with the speed issues cuz my sister get 2-4 mg download and im still stuck on 200-300 kbps her phone is a mytouch 4g slide,

Possible fix with different combo of ROM/Kernal/Radio
Checkout this XDA article on the Portal page
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/get-your-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-to-run-t-mobile-hspa/
It seems the At&t Skyrocket some T-Mobile users are using are having the same problem.
XDA Senior Member tspx23 uses a combo of ROM/Kernal/Radio made a difference in getting better speeds on their Skyrocket. Will that work for the Note?
Now all we need is a Juggernaut like ROM with the Faux Kernal and the VKL1 radio.
i think that could be what we are going thru who here has what setup? im using the KID radio and still getting somewhat crappy speeds first day i did the mod was Proly the best speeds i got between 6-8

I'll try and keep this from turning into a book.
Basically I have a HTC Thunderbolt right now. It is being replaced under the extended warranty that I have with Verizon. Since they don't have any more T-bolts they are sending me a HTC Incredible 4G under my total equipment protection policy.
I have already ordered a Nexus 4 (being delivered Monday) and will be going to T-Mobile with that eventually bringing my wife over as well when her contract is up. The only reason I did the warranty claim was because my T-bolt was dead and I might as well get a free phone out of them before dropping them since my contract is up and such. That way rather than have a 1.5 year old dead T-bolt that is good for nothing but the trash, I would have a functioning phone which I could sell. Make sense so far?
So my initial thought was that I would sell the phone take the cash to recoup some of my cost of the N4 or use it toward buying my wife's new phone on the T-Mobile network. Then I saw something about the Incredible 4G being compatible with a GSM network and that if I modify the APN that I might be able to get it on T-Mobile with HSPA+. If that is the case I will just keep the phone and have a brand new phone for free for my wife rather than sell this one and buy a different one. When they ship out the new phone it will come with a Verizon SIM that I can use to get it on their network, my account is still active with them so I can call them and get and try and get an unlock code if I need one of those before I cancel my account and I can get any updates that may be out there for the phone.
Of course if this won't work I would rather sell the phone as basically a new phone, well it might be a refurb but I don't know that for sure because they said they had to send me a complete kit because I don't have a battery and battery cover that would fit since I have a T-bolt now. Though they may have complete phones as refurbs.
So if it will work, what will I need to do before I cancel my plan? Though there was that new law that went into effect the other day that makes it illegal to unlock a phone.. But if I let Verizon do it I would imagine it isn't an issue.
Phone is factory unlocked I'm using on gsm, if you are on android 4.0.4 you are unlocked already and just need to set up apn

Thanks. I saw some posts from a while back that hinted at that but it mentions an upcoming update which may change some things. To be safe I will test it with my new T-Mobile SIM when I get that. The Nexus 4 also uses the micro SIM.

That's because 3g bands of that network aren't compatible, however if you flash cm10 you'll get more bands unlocked

I tried that. Here goes some different steps I took:
I started with cyyanogen last nightly build.
Tried switching all the different settings in the hidden men u (gsm, CDMA only prl) etc. Changed the bands from automatic to to aus2. No good except auto and USA. 2g
Did this on viper and got the options 800mhz and 1900 MHz. No good on 1900. 800mhz 2g. (E)
Used the very alpha miui ROM from the general section and got two different radio strength bars. One was 1x and the one above it (weird right) was 3g. Had signal on the 1x but couldn't use the phone right away. Had no service on the 3g (although it started out with 3bars and slowly went to 0 and stayed) changed the APN to tfdata. Got phone but no data. Had to put the phone back onto gsm only to get data. Which gavee just the one signal bar.
I'm trying here folks!!!!

I found the 3g bands for your network are 850 and 1900 however looks like you live on a non 3g area, you just needed to Google it

I have been googling it for 3 days. I'm pretty sure I should get service here. Any coverage map says I'm right in the middle of the good zone. At&t, sprint, Tmobile, Verizon, virginmobile, all confirmed get signal and data here. I have been finding it a little difficult to find a lot on the radio bands but 1900 got no service here at all.

Strange, our phone got 850 and 1900 bands at stock, and you only get 2g, have you ever got a h, also set bands in automatic and wcdma only, then search for networks manually, best way to know what carriers will work

not in this case, you said you were not using your phone in stock, theres a bug where the 3g symbol got changed to g for gsm users, i read about it, statusbar theming on htc devices caused the h symbol to be swaped to g symbol, sorry about not being clear on last post
No. The g is definitely 1g. 5-15 KB a sec. All the symbols work I think because when I had Verizon on the same rom it showed the 1x, 3g, lte, icons, depending upon where I was. Usually lte or 3g. I'm going to get some go phone sims in a week or whenever they come in. The sim cards are cheap so I can change them out no prob. I just have ran out of $350 a month for phone service. I can almost deal with it Cuz its slow but very stout signal. Never dropped a download yet. I just don't like having to set up all my DL to run while I sleep. I'm used to lte ya dig!

Hi all
any way to put 850 band on htc incredible 4g?
i only see 800 - 1900 and japan bands 800 - 2000
You have to use a difderent sim card. There are people on here who know what oones tp get but they dont really like to. AT&T is supposed to work. Im not sure. You cannot put another frequency antenna on this phone without taking it apart and using a soldering iron. (Good luck!)

you are arguing with a very experienced person here. him and i both know a thing or two about phones and i must say, if he's sure its a bug, then it is. I am inclined to believe him too because we all know that HTC programmed this phone for a specific service initially, and they were not counting on it ever going outside the VZW network. That being said, there is no way for the phone to tell what network its on. Case and point... i just manually flashed my phone to the MetroPCS PRL and it still says Verizon Wireless... The network speed i get will not be shown as LTE even though i have it, because it only ever used GSM for LTE(which is partially GSM-based technology), not voice and data. So, on the stock rom, the phone is and will be "confused". CM10.1 works great and DOES know the difference. You will have best results by being s-off as i am.
