How do I recover to stock ROM? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know you recover to stock ROM using CWM and selecting your backup image. But I bought my phone second hand already rooted, and I think the stock image may have been deleted, or I can't find it.
Is there anywhere on the net I can grab an official stock ROM ?

I *think* mine was originally branded to the Three (UK) network, but as I never had it brand new and its always had a custom rom installed on it, i dont know for sure.
Does it make any difference if I ever try and flash it to carrier branded or generic firmware?

No difference you may find a branded 3 rom in branded/providers roms post in dev section .

[Q] Return-To-Stock Clarification

Hi guys,
Just to double check before I flash CF-Root, if I want to return to full stock including recovery, flashing a stock ROM without the PIT file will do so correct? I just want the option to return to a vanilla ROM and recovery if I choose.
I did search the forum, but it was all a bit vague.
Thanks!

You might want to get a Jig to reset the flash count.

I'm sorry, i'm new to flashing the S2. Flash count?
Samsung has now put a counter on the phone which helps sales staff and engineers to find out if the phone has been rooted of flashed before.

Ah I see, well, I haven't had to take any of my phones back for warranty work yet. This is more for my own peace of mind, I like to be able to return to full stock, completely clean. Many thanks for the quick response!
Flash your original saved rom or flash providers rom from dev thread or flash stock Samsung rom .

Hi all - similar question as I want to (potentially) return my SGS2 to stock before I sell it. I have already rooted & flashed ROM so familiar with CWM / Odin / etc. but am unsure which firmware I should be using. Is there a difference for US / UK devices; how do I decide which one to download from Intratech's link ?
I have a USB jig so will reset the flash count afterward.
TIA
Download the firmware that matches your original firmware .

That's what I was planning but can't find the bit of paper where I wrote that down
Any way of finding out by HW build / serial / etc. ? Phone was originally locked to T-Mobile but I SIM unlocked it.
I've seen on other threads that the Carphone Warehouse (CPW) firmware is unlocked so may be OK - any thoughts ?

[Q] help... bricked it?

Hi all
I've had a custom root and rom on my s2
I've since reset and odined a new rom into it that didn't seem to work (boot looped) so I installed what I thought was a stock one vod uk)
Anyway, this hasn't worked as it now gets stuck booting on the s2 screen
Not sure what to do... my root (0yellow triangle) has disappeared so I can't install a custom rom and I don't know the csc (or whatever it It is) as I'm guessing the stock rom I put on was not exactly the same as the one that came on it originally?
Bit confused how I get it back now
Thanks

To help you out more information is needed - exact phone type, what was your previous ROM, what ROM you flashed, etc..
Can you go to Download Mode? (home + power + volume down)
If you can, download the right ROM and flash it with Odin.

Still unclear what is your phone model. Is it I9100, I9100G or even HD LTE?
According to this you must choose a proper ROM for your device. If it`s wrong you will get soft brick.

Hi
It's gt i9100
Can you point me in the direction of a rom that will work? Do I need to find a way of clearing the cache as well or should a simple reinstall fix it?
Thank you
Go to sammobile and get a stock rom from there......fill in the 4 boxes to pinpoint which ones you can try.Avoid the 4.0.4 one lol.
Then read tutorial about using odin properly on here.

[Q] 4.3 to 4.1.2

Stock UK BTU Rom Only no leaked ones or custom Roms
Ok Guys I no there is alot on here at the moment on how to Roll Back to 4.1.2 but that seems to be custom roms (pleas point me in the right direction if wroung)
Now I no a Single file Flash will not work so it needs to be a three file
But Here in the UK as you may or may not no 4.3 was rolled out and well its a mess so we need to help people roll back to stock BTU
Battery drain connection issues and others are the main problems
so we need a way to Help UK BTU users a way Back that works and does not brick there phones
I no the custom Guys Have managed this but that involves rooting and saving the EFS fold
that is all to complicated to get a Normal user to do
I no back in the days of Flashing we used three files and a pit file and re partition the phone
Back in the day we had to do this on the Galaxy S so no worries
we just need to know How and has it worked
So can you Guys Help Here ??????

I agree I don't want 4.3 as its a mess the clue is in the tittle !!!!
Firmware on sammobile Good as it is are single file and its well documented that as this has a partition change to go back you need to do a re partition that can not be done with a single file flash

Here is my exp....from 4.3 to 4.1 BTU
i did a manual flash of 4.3 from odin as my s3 is branded and i wanted the 4.3 update ..but then due to all the issue i wanted to go back to 4.1.2 BTU..
so i downloaded the MG4 BTU from sammobile and flashed it using ODIN on top of the 4.3, this of course landed me in a boot loop. I had not backed up my phone so i then re-flashed 4.3 back and that worked fine, i didnt lose any apps etc. So did my back up and the did a full wipe via the custom recovery and flashed MG4 this worked ok....
I dont know why i was in a bootloop after going back to MG4, i guess it was because i needed to wipe data etc before flashing the file?
Anyway this processed worked me...
ive been only flashing Stock rooms from day one...all of them being BTU as my phone is tmob branded and they dont seem to release any updates.
Basic Faqs and Guides its all posted .
If you want to roll back stock but do not want to backup your EFS folder then its your risk .Likewise if you fail to understand EFSv2 etc .
Anyone looking to repartition or mess with PIT on a I9300 is asking for a brick .

Man, I am now consider myself a victim to Samsung's trick- JB 4.3 leaked vodafone test files [no matter whether it xxxx.vdi/vdf/btu [thanks to faryaab] they all have same thing- change log/apps etc. too... I tested first two releases on top of my xxemh4. Both turned out during first boot "Deustchland" as primary language and felt something wrong on contrary Ireland/swisscom tags...However I kept on trying and voila...i found both as emulated version. However, i liked battety backup[w.r.t. me], camera, connecting to pc with previews of images and some other features. Then I saw this samsung's latest 4.3 Chinese version with different changelog. I tried flashing it but failed. Then I thought it might be a problem of that emulated ireland/swisscom version of 4.3. Just thought, back to original 4.1.2 may get me flashed this this Chinese 4.3. So thus did data flash/factory reset/ cache wipe etc from stock recovery mode and flashed this 4.1.2... it worked fine[downgrade method]. Then tried to get installed the Chinese 4.3. But failed still. Now, suddenly today I found that my s3 i9300 suffering from two problems with this stable rom 4.1.2 xxemh4 [upgraded through kies from previous another version of 4.1.2 which was kept on my pc for any eventuality]:
1. Bluetooth button does not get turned on
2. Phone shuts down when idle
My next method is to flash with pit, bootloader etc as given inhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535367
Lemme see whether it helps myself
IT DIDN'T HELP! Though my network is ok, and so thus wi-fi, I just checked *#1234* and says CSC: UNKNOWN!!!
I am now trying to patched CSC with this one from " this as suggested featherknox]

[Q] KH3 Modem On Custom OS Galaxy S2

I was using the S2 with Jelly Bean. I found the phone to heat up very quickly around the camera lens and top of the phone rather than when running on Ginger Bread. I then installed the Resurrection Remix Custom ROM v5.1.3 with KitKat 4.4.2.
But the heating problem is still there. Checking online I found out that the modem was the problem.I found the KH3 modem was the best for the Galaxy S2. I was wondering if installing the KH3 modem was appropriate on Custom ROM or can modems be installed only on Custom ROM???
If it can be installed can anyone guide me how ... BTW I am using the phone in India ...
Please reply the overheating problem is driving me nuts.
Attatched is a screenshot showing my phone information.
You question is a bit confused (because you haven't taken the time to learn 'the basics' like 95% of people who come here), but the answer is yes. Modems are interchangeable between Android versions on the S2 & not dependent on same; I.E you can flash a modem that was bundled with stock rom that was a different Android version to the one you're currently running (whether stock or custom, makes no difference).
As to how to flash a modem....C'mon....
This is absolute basics, you should know this stuff back to front inside out if you're flashing custom roms.
In other words, search.

Usually a modem file size should not exceed 10 MB. You can even flash the modem via cwm. On xda you can find links for such files.

That's not required. Just keep a flashable file of your current modem, just in case you want to revert. I mean, download it and keep it on your phone.
For India, ddls9 also works quite well. I have seen good results on xxls8 too.

I am not very sure about that. My guess is that it doesn't backup your modem with the rom backup.

[Q] Anyway to do complete backup including firmware for S2 ?

I have 2 Galaxy S2 phones.
One is stock and the other is rooted.
I would like to make a complete backup including the android OS plus the baseband firmware and restore it on the other phone which is rooted.
I am selling these phones and want to keep them stock.
The rooted version has some problems and I want to keep it stock.
Its an
GT-I9100M model
I found a program that can do a backup but it doesn't include the baseband firmware.
I already searched for the stock firmware but its not available anywhere.

From what I can gather (And please correct me if I'm wrong) you want both phones to be on the completely stock firmware before you sell them? What you can do is use a program called Odin, and flash the stock firmware (Including baseband) for your model which can be downloaded from here. Let me know if you still have questions I'll be happy to help you out!

What you could do is install a custom recovery through Odin on the unrooted phone (Such as CWM), then using the custom recovery make a backup. Transfer this backup to the other phone and flash that through a custom recovery. Then using Odin you can re-flash the stock recovery to each device, unroot the device you rooted and your setup will be back to stock. Let me know if you still have questions on anything I mentioned.
