hi guys,
i just purchased a second hand s2 and loving it so far! the thing is it has already been rooted and running villainrom 2.0. but i do not know what root method has been taken. e.g. clockworkmod / unrevoked. how would i find out?
i have had some issue with some apps that i have instaled which just disappear. the icon of the app remains but when i select it, it says that the app is not installed.
Villain rom instructions .
They where almost certainly the standard Chainfire rooted Kernel and CWM method .

Just use ODIN and flash back to stock if you want, and start from there, be sure you have a I9100 and not a I9100G and you should be golden

only problem now is that my battery drains very quickly...i took it off charge around 10:00am and its now 4:00pm and i'm on 35%...but weird thing is i just rebooted my phone and it now says i'm on 13%?? is that normal? :S
i think i may have a fauly battery...my battery goes up and down at different times...
basiaclly it was on 49% and i restarted my phone, it then went to 19% and a left it for a few mins and it went back up to 25% ...can anyone help?
I think you need this:
Flash a wipe stock rom(there are 3 different .tar files). With Odin pda or code file in odds section, modem file in the modem section and csc or multi csc file in the csc section... After flashing the stock ROM, root your phone using the cf-root method and through cwm do a battery stats wipe...
Hope this helps!

If you are rooted with CWM either boot to recovery advanced and wipe battery stats or get Battery Calibration from the market or let the battery stats reset themselves after a few days use .
Stock rom wont fix anything and neither will flashing a three part rom instead of a single file rom .
jje
i am already rooted i will download Battery Calibration and test it with that and post the results...
would buying a new battery be a better option for me?

why this thread has to be second hand...
Just noticed my phone does a sd card media scan at random times... Maybe this could be draining my battery... I have formatted my sd card and it's still the same problem.
Plus my battery is so bad that it was on 89% I used it for light use on twitter, 2 websites and watched a 7 min video on youtube and I'm now down to 73%
Can anyone please help me?

Ask in the battery stats thread .
I would wipe the phone install stock rom do not add any apps .
Set-up turn off data sync etc ,
Fully charge battery wipe battery stats .
Let phone sleep for 12 hours or overnight and check battery usage .

First see partial wakelocks tab. You can post screen shoot here. First of all do next :
Download >>samsung ultimate kernel cleaning script 2.4<<
than download latest cf-root kenel form here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Place the files on your internal SD-CARD.
Restart to ClockWorkMod Recovery.
Install the kernel cleaning script.zip like any other package.
Install the Kernel of your choice.
Reboot the device.
Set BetterBatteryStats to "Kernel Wavelocks" with "Since Charged" and/or "Since Custom Ref." and see what it comes up with.
I did that. And then installed Redpill kernel. No changes. Same battery life.

update;
I have managed to unroot the phone but I cant seem to root it again......very strange.I have tried following this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 but there is a problem.
when I install the cwm zip(think its v5.8),I basically cant do anything in its menu.It only scrolls down once in the menu, then hangs/freezes.Once it did work and I was trying to install the busybox stuff, but it couldnt find anything to install.I cant remember but I did see a " e:verification signature error".
So I tried to root using odin and basically it wont flash the required .tar file for rooting successfully and Ive got to keep reflashing the stock .tar file...
Has anyone encountered these problems before.

How did you try to scroll, with volume up/down? If I am not mistake this CWM is a touch version
It was just the basic one.I've never seen recovery acting the way that version was doing.Out of the 6 options I could only scroll to 3 of them, and it wouldn't go near the other 3 options.
I eventually fixed the problem by trying combos with pressing the power and home buttons, and I think I got the other file in that link installed(the root). Then I stuck on siyah(c/w the touch recovery you said),which meant I could reinstall everything by the nand backup.
I can't remember if I got out of the other part of the recovery problem(verification) by getting the 2nd file from the internal memory and flashed that successfully.

, but my phone got stuck in NAND write. After a long time I disconnected it and now I can't go to Recovery MOde either.
I can only go to download more.
Can My phone be saved?
It doesn't usually say 'get pit for mapping' so maybe you need the .pit file
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Actually, it does normally say "get pit for mapping," (even without a pit file) but it goes by quickly on a normal, successful flash.
1. Try a different usb port.
2. Different usb cable.
3. Different computer.
4. With pitfile. I dont know which is correct.

It worked
Atleast my phone is now starting.
However I can't make any calls, but I can get calls and smses.
Moreover I can also use mobile data.
I don't know if it was because I flashed the latest leak or it's just a network issue.

I was initially, but then I tried to install the Note 2 Gallery and wiped cache and dalvik partition.
After that I couldn't even check balance.
However I could get incoming calls and messages.Even after that.
Could the flash have ruined something?
I have now reverted back to stock ICS and wiped the user data.
BUt I'm still unable to call .
What could be the reason?
Help!
Just a network issue or has the flashed ruined something inside my efs folder/

Check in settings->info->status and look for imei.. If It is still there all should be ok and It could be a modem related problem and for solving that you should try to factory reset the Phone and then flash the cwm zip of the modem You need..

Hello guys...
I just rooted my Galaxy S3 and flashed CWM recovery successfully using a Odin flash
I followed the method in this tutorial.
Now I am on CWM 5.5.0.4: CF v.1.5 (I know its old ><)
This thing is my CWM said it's old and some functions are disabled.
I boot to the revovery mode and couldn't do a backup...
This is the main reason why I am hesitating flashing CM 10.1
Therefore, I searched through the forum and found that I can always upgrade my CWM recovery to the latest version with ROM Manager.
The problem I cannot find ROM Manager from the play store (incomparable with my device??)
I wonder I can just install the apk directly and update through ROM Manager.
Secondly I am from Macau, and my device is bought in Macau so my device is probably the International version. I am worrying flashing CM10.1 would brick my device because I am not sure if I have downloaded the correct version for my phone.
I have looked at this XDA thread, I just want to make sure if the correct one is the first download from this page (http://www.get.cm/?device=i9300)
I know these are probably dumb questions but I really try out new roms for my phone~~ Hope someone could help and advice me! Thanks a lot~~!!

Dont see why not but you can update or pick one of the other root and recovery tools all in Development section .
Probably is not good enough it must be I9300 only for firmware from this forum .

Hello
I have a Galaxy S2 factory unlocked and I wanted to know the country of origin, because I want to update to JellyBean but it constantly says that there are no updates when my country has already updated. So I was said to download the kies of the corresponding country of origin of the phone.
So what can I do to check the origin or update it without rooting? (Ive checked in sammobile using firmware, csc, etc and nothing was found)
Thanks in advanced
Check where was it made.
You won't know what was the first firmware it had because android overwrites firmware with firmware.
You could track the IMEI, but that's a hassle.
Upgrade with odin / mobile odin and that's that.

It's easy there are lots of posts out there,
1.Go to download mode on phone
2.Connect to PC after running Odin via usb
3. Select your firmware usually something.tar.md5 in pda
4.Make sure Odin has detected your phone
5.Start Flashing.
Better read about the don't do's before doing anything.

No, that you can't.

Hi
JB is working great, the phone works much better, but im having a terrible battery life. Speacially when the phone is in stand by mode and I cant find what is causing it (when its in stand by I lose like 5% to 8% per hour). The battery manager that comes with android isnt saying much, and Ive trying disabling google now and all the google maps location services in background. Before installing Jb I made a wipe data and cache just in case.
What could be the problem?
Media scanner maybe?
Sent from the little guy
I dont really know what is it. But now that you mention it maybe it could be, because when I open the gallery the phone gets really hot for a while, even when I already closed it.
How can I solve that? (without rooting)
Set your external DCIM as default for storage (camera settings).
Move all files from your internal DCIM to the external DCIM.
Sent from the little guy
I think they are all in the external memory, because I flashed the new rom and wiped all the data but all the photos remained there, since I always use the external as storage for images and music.
Check your internal DCIM to be sure there aren't pics or videos there.
Sent from the little guy
Ive checked and its in the sd card DCIM, I dont know what else I can do, Ive charged the phone while it was shut down, and when it was 100% ive turned on (still connected to power supply) and after 2 minutes of use the phone went 99% of battery (being connected to the power supply) :S
What else can I do?
Well, we are assuming it's media scanner, maybe it's not.
Post the battery details.
BetterBatteryStats will pin point what's draining the batt.
BTW, create a new folder in your internal SD, call it DCIM.
Reboot.
Sent from the little guy
Ok, Ill get a screenshot of the battery stats and ill post it here. I cant create a folder in the internal memory (it says permission denied in airdroid).
Here is the battery stats, Ive barely used it because Ive finished charging before going to sleep. (airdroid was opened just 1 min ago to download the files I dont have it always open)

It's wifi.
Turn it on when needed and your battery will last 2-3 times.

But with ICS I left the wifi turned on without any problem. Also in the battery history its using 2% of the battery. I think that theres something with the OS thats draining the battery. Maybe I should turn on the battery saver with the cpu limit. I dont know what else to do
