I rooted my previous phone, a HTC Aria, and then whenever I turned it off and plugged it into the charger it would turn on with that annoying green screen with the options to doo all the boot level stuff (my mind is blanking and i cant remember what it was called...).
If i were to root my GSII, would there be any way to not get that screen when plugged in and turned off?
that does not happen on the sgs2.
It would just charge and show an animation of battery charging.

when I charge my radar, it automatically switches on even though I switched it off before charging. like as in REALLY on, I can do whatever I want on it, not just showing the battery bar or something. its like it auto switches on when I charge it. is this normal? is there a way to make it "stay switched off" while charging?
That is normal behavior. The battery symbol method only shows up when your battery is completely drained.
That's normal and is universal for all WP phone, I think. I used to have Dell Venue Pro and if you plug in the device without the battery, it will still boot up.
but is there anyway to make it not boot up? coz my mom's phone, HTC Desire if I'm not wrong, doesn't boot up when she charges it while it is switched off.
oops sorry didn't read ammapeen88's post properly. thought it was standard for all HTC phones. thanks anyway guys!
ok, this a little weird...
i was using my phone today until the battery died. i put it on the charger (amber light appeared indicating charging). when i tried to turn my phone on, all i got was the initial HTC splash screen and then a blank screen. i tried multiple times, but i haven't been able to turn it on and have no idea wtf is wrong.
phone is rooted and running Revolution HD 1.1. i've never had problems before until today.
any suggestions or how i can fix this?

Unplug your phone and pull your battery.
Then plug it back in and let it charge until you see the green "fully charged' light.
Unplug it and try to turn it on.
Post back and let us know if anything's changed.
thanks i'm actually in the middle of trying that now. will update once fully charged.
Did you install a custom recovery, and if so what version? Xboarder fixed charging in 5.2.0 but not newer versions that I'm aware of. If that is the case then you will need to charge the battery enough to start the phone.

worse comes to worse, you can try this,

thanks to everyone who replied. quick update and additional details...
- i'm running ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0
when i plugged in the usb cable to charge, the phone initially had a blinking amber light for a couple seconds and then switches to a solid amber light.
i left it like this while i slept only to wake up to a phone with no charge light at all. if it was charging, it would've either stayed solid amber light or solid green (indicating full charge).
so what other options do i have...?
it's gonna b a boring train commute to work this morning...
ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 is the bugged recovery , you prob have a old version this happened to me as well , i needed a replacement from t-mobile .
Try This : Here
or
1) Install Android-SDK
2) Navigate to c:\program-files(x86)\android\android-sdk\platform-tools
3) adb reboot bootloader
If it boot's into bootloader PM me & i'll give you furthur instruction
thanks for the suggestion Revolution, but i got it working...dunno how...maybe it was just dumb luck/chance.
when i got to work, i decided to try charging the phone again before heading over to the t-mobile store. connected to charger and showed solid amber light (no blinking light this time). after about 15 min on the charger, i was able to turn it on and had it boot into the home screen.
status shows that the battery is now charging. the Battery Calibration app initially showed 2%, but has slowly crept up to 5%.
btw - your sig shows "Project Nocturnal" for the Amaze 4G...where can i find more info about that rom? i googled and found it for the sidekick, but nothing else...

Glad it's working now.
It's not released and it's based on old firmware that had CIQ , i'll be working on a new version , for now try QuikSense : Here or BeastMod : Here and i'm glad your phone's working now .

waiting for xboarder to upload fixed camera and live wallpaper for QuikSense and Beastmod 2.0, but i'll be looking out for your rom in the future as well.
Kinda having the same problem...
I'm a noob...but, my phone did the same thing...after letting it charge all night, this is what I get:
Blank screen, the bottom icons light up and the computer can see the two "drives" of the phone but they are empty. I never see any flash screen or anything, but it does vibrate a couple times. Oh, and the battery light is solid green.
Any help ????
I sometimes have had the same problem but I noticed the phone is in clockmod and u have to use a flashlight to see the screen because it is all dark which would normally make u think the phone is off

Rooted Aria/Liberty won't turn on if it's plugged in (wall charger or USB). The orange charging light is on and the screen is lit but black. The menu buttons do not turn on. I have to remove the battery after unplugging it for it to turn on.
The phone is rooted and the problem is consistent no matter what ROM I use. I believe it is a problem with the bootloader, but I'm not very advanced with these things.
I rooted the phone with Unrevoked and whenever I boot into recovery mode it says "Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4."
Any suggestions on how to make this problem go away? I know it's minor, but it is my mother's phone and every time I'm on the phone with her she complains about it.
try to reinstall your ROM
Hi, Yesterday I was in a concert recording videos of it, I put my LGOG in my pocket and when I took it out again it had a something like a blue screen of death, I don't remember what it said but I rebooted my phone and now it won't turn on.
I plugged it to the AC the whole night and still it won't turn on, when I have it plugged to the AC it shows the LG logo and the boot animation, but then it turns off. When I leave it unplugged it wont even show the LG logo as it where completely discharged...
does anyone know how to fix it? help
Aditional info:
it is rooted and the boot loader unlocked (i can't get into recovery, if plugged I get to the part where you have to press vol-down twice but then it turns off)
ROM : SnowJB v1.1
KERNEL: B18c1 v4.1
Edit: when I plug it to the AC the led doesn't blink, but the screen turns on ans if I press the power button it shows the battery charging animation

Try this
Via LG OG running Rootbox 4.2.2
this happened twice, a although little different.
the first time I left it unused for 24 hours then tried to charge again and it worked normally.
the second time, there wasn't no BSOD, and when it rebooted it didn't showed the boot animation this didn't work, so I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039707
and now it is working again
the second time everything started while I was coping stuff in CWM's UMS......... not recomended....
thanks @xj220gt
Don't record concerts on your phone man, annoying bright little screens. Your phone was just trying to help you out!

I have this problem: youtube.com/watch?v=chvRbwgT9n8
Sprint Galaxy S3, unrooted, stock
Basically one night my phone would not turn on after the battery completely drained out. Put on charger but phone would not turn on. Did the spin test on original battery and it seemed busted. Ordered a new battery, put it into phone, charged for a few hours and have the same problem the above youtuber does. The battery icon looks identical (both the grey and ~90% one).
1) If phone is unplugged nothing happens, can't start into recovery/download/boot.
2) If phone is plugged in it will show grey battery icon for like 10s, then go to a green battery screen where it shows the battery is ~90% full. The red charging light stays on.
3) I can boot into recovery mode if the phone is plugged in but if I try to normal boot the phone it will 50% get to the S3 splash screen, vibrate, and then turn off, and then 50% of the time it will boot to the home screen but wifi and data will not work (the battery icon will show 100% at this point). After a few seconds the phone will vibrate, turn off, and return to the grey battery icon swirly and then back to the 90% green battery screen.
4) I've tried wiping cache and doing factory reset but doesn't seem to phase it.
5) Reflashing via Odin to stock doesn't fix issue.
Any ideas? It doesn't seem like the power button issue because usually in those cases the battery shows as low or it will be stuck in a constant repeating cycle. This just seems like the phone is not drawing any power from the battery. Thanks.

You posted this in the wrong forum, but anyway, try downloading an app that tells you the charging current going into your phone so you can see whether any power is actually going into the battery. Have you tried plugging it into different power ports around your house / using usb + computer to charge?

No, will try that.
Update: so it appears that the longer I leave it on the charger the longer I can use it while connected. The issue now is that Wifi and data will not enable, sound doesn't work, bluetooth doesn't work. I found someone else with _exactly_ the same issue who had a weird fix:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...amsung-galaxy-s3-wont-turn-5.html#post3322596
OK, Czech this out, I took my sim card and SD card out of the phone and tried to start it, and guess what? IT FREAKING CAME ON!!! It obviously wont function without the SIM card, and it prompted me to turn off the phone and reinstall the SIM, but after doing that, it started right back up like it was new.SO EVERYONE GIVE THAT A SHOT. We'll see if it gives me any issues.

The problem for me is that the Sprint version doesn't have a SIM card and I'm not using a SD card. Is there any reason for this madness?

It sounds like you might need to flash a new modem. I'm not 100% sure though since I don't own the phone, you should post it on the Sprint S3 forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-sprint/help
