You keep volume down pressed and it goes into silent.

Yes you can.

Just hold down the - volume rocker. It's very simple, didn't think it needed a how to guide or I would have written one.

Maybe he wants to have it like this:
Sound - Vibration - Silent (No vibration)
Not sure though...

[Q] lacking silent mode

On my other phones, when you keep pushing volume down, the ringer transitions from ring, to vibrate, to silent. But on the the photon, it goes from ring to vibrate. How do I tottaly silence it?
I wish there was a silent toggle. Sometimes I want both the ring to vibrate...but not always. I need a quick toggle.
if you press and hold the power button. it will pop up a menu. sound off is one of the options. you can also set the sounds off using the settings app.
I'd recommend downloading "simple sound profile widget" - it is similar to the profiles back when I had a nextel and a black berry. I put a widget that has the option of normal, silent, or vibrate - very quick and easy!

Or just hold the down volume key and when you feel it vibrate, you will be in Silent mode...
I know what u mean
This option was gone since froyo for some weird reason
Only cm7 brings that way back (via volume rocker)

Oh yeah. Probably would've helped if I read teh manual, but who does that
I wish there was a way to turn on vibrate individually quickly instead of going through the settings.
Huh?! It isn't gone. I use it all the time. Just press and hold the down volume key and it'll switch to Silent Mode...

it either goes ring to silent
or ring to vibrate
as i said back in the day, it would go from ring to vibrate to silent
to the OP, go to settings, sound, and play with the vibrate settings and ull get what u want
Yeah, that's right...
My bad, I didn't really check.
Damn, why'd they remove that feature...

Are the volume buttons easy to fix? Vol up not working at all and vol down double clicks often. Vibration makes rattling sounds I have no idea why...
Any response will be highly appreciated

[Q] volume Button

hi guys,
i love the samsung galaxy s2 phone, but i have a question.
Whilst using the phone, i end up accidently pressing the volume button and this can sometimes mean i put the "Notification" or "Ringer" volume really down.
I only want to be able to control such options by actually going into the Settings menu, so is there a way to disable this button or somehow change it's functionality?
BUMP!
Surely someone must have the answer?

I guess so nyssa, but many also still have their mobiles, watching this forum and are still replying to many questions on this forum.
Hey there. Have you even tried searching in the market? The very first app for "volume" query can do just that
Sent from outer space by aliens on tapatalk using SGS2
thanks aj rockwell. That app i believe only helps you adjust settings with volume. I actually want to Remap buttons, so that the volume button cannot adjust sounds other than "IN-CALL volume"
this is so annoying, I was going to open a thread with the some issue. Is any chanse, mod which can switch a default option when we press volume from ringer volume to media volume. many times by incident I turn ringer volume down and I dont hear a ringer.
@ x7 - Halleluyah! At last i find someone who has exactly the issue as myself.
Guys, all i want is some app that can disable the volume button from controlling the MEDIA's/NOTIFICATION's volume. The only way i want to control these is by actually going to SETTINGS>SOUND ...surely there must be an app that can REMAP the Volume key functions?
I agree, why Samsung did this think That you can change volume ringer by pressing a volumes button? This is so silly
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S 2 (80GB)
the only thing we can do x7 is hope that someone on here will know a fix for this volume issue.
I took a look in android market but I havent found anythink
I checked too, but could not find anything. The only one i have seen whilst searching on google, is Button Remapper. But there is no information to say that this app is safe for the SGS2.
Anyone? Help!
x7nofate mate, pls ignore the replies. I feel like such a twat now . It looks like AJ.Rockwell was right...i never properly tried the recommended app and was too quick to ignore it's features.
Download "Volume Control +" from android market and install it.
Once installed, set the volume for all the media/ring/notifications. Then simply goto the options where it allows you to lock each individual type of tone. So for example if you don't want to decrease your ringtone volume by accident, then select that.
Save your settings and you should have a little lock icon in your status bar.
Now when you put your volume for your ringtone down, it looks like its gone down again, right???? WRONG! Since Volume Control+ has locked it down, VC+ automatically forces it back to the "locked" settings. Genius!
Let me know how you get on mate!
PS: If you need any help or just wanna chat android, then PM me ur email and i'll add you to msn/yahoo/skype or whatever you use.
I installed a "Volume Control +" ages ago and I locked in settings but I can put my volume ringtone down anyway so I thought that it doesn't work but I was wrong. It works, thank you very much
Bump! I searched XDA on Google for this exact thread, my problem too. My question is, with that apps reccommendation (thanks for that), does it still bring up the volume OSD? That's my major annoyance, and something that happens to people whenever I pass my phone over to them.

[Q] To vibrate or not to vibrate!

By default I leave my phone on silent but with vibrate on. However there are times, for example during school when I put my phone of the desk, where I need the vibration to not happen either.
This is my first smartphone -- my last phone, the wonderful LG Xenon, could do this easily.. It started at volume 7/7 and as I hit the side volume button, it went down to 6, 5, etc, to 1, to Silent + vibrate, to Silent w/o vibrate. On my Samsung Galaxy 2 I have to go in the settings to change the vibrate? Seems a little harsh..
Does anyone know of a way to change it to work as mentioned above? Is there a plug-in (not an actual app please) to make it as simple as that?
Thanks
I use CM9 and I have added the sound icon to my power widget bar (the shortcuts you see once you pull the notification bar). In settings I can choose how I want the sound button to cycle through different options - so you can set it to whatever you want including silence and vibrate only etc.)
We really need to know what ROM you're using. On AOKP it works just like you said, the buttons on the side work like this: High volume -> Low volume -> Vibrate -> Silent
It sounds like you may be running Stock (Factory) ROM. I haven't used that in forever but if that's what you're on, I would highly recommend moving to one of the wonderful ICS roms here in the forums.
I don't use vibrate mode, either silent or normal ringing.
I haven't rooted my phone yet. It seems like a lot of work/learning for too little of a payoff (not saying it doesnt open up a lot of features, just not a whole lot that I'D use). So i guess I'm running the stock/factory ROM, but I'm using GO Launcher
This works via the volume rocker in aokp. Hold volume - until its on vibrate. Press volume - again to turn off vibrate.

On my stock 2.3.4 w/Entropy's DD kernel, it's High volume -> Low Volume -> Vibrate. No silent mode with the buttons.
I put mine on vibrate when it's in my pocket.

That would be because he said it works via the volume rocker in AOKP ROM. Thats Android Open Kang Project. A ROM here in the development forums. Not stock. I'm not sure if there is an app to do what u want. But in either case, I highly suggest u root your phone (its very easy now adayz) and flash a custom ROM. I would suggest AOKP of course. The benefits far outweigh the risk my friend. Good luck and happy flashing.

Since you're using go launcher try checking out the Go Switch Widget. I know you said you'd prefer not to use any extra apps but its really a plugin for the launcher you already use. It has a button option for turning on the sound as well as a separate vibrate button. Its also customizable so you can choose just the vibrate button so the widget would be small and not take up much of your screen space.
Hope that's helps
With Stock ROM, in Settings/Sound/Vibration/ select"Only when not in silent mode". Will not vibrate when Silent selected with rocker. Not option for silent+vibrate in addition to silent only.

Ah!! Ive been using this widget already for individual brightness and battery widgets. In fact i even had a missing space in the row of 4 (I also have the flashlight widget), so this fits perfectly. Thanks so much

Volume Button Disable Feature

Hi all,
As you know you can change the status of the ringer with the sound button at Galaxy S III. When you press up at mute it changes to vibrate and you press it at vibrate it changes to sound vice verse. But as a normal person and with a normal handling of the phone, when I want to press the lock key I mistakenly press to the volume button with the other edge of my hand because I am holding the phone...
So question is; how can I disable this "changing status with volume keys" features?
If your question is about this feature on JB leak, I talk about this in the lastest leak thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871338&page=9
I have this problem too. I hate it.

Nope it is not the same problem. It changes to Sound-Vibrate-Mute-Vibrate-Sound but the problem is, I don't want this feature!
So, any help, idea, walk through from anyone?

Ok, sorry ! I think the solution is to modify system/framework/ext.jar.
Install Volume Control+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cb.volumePlus
It enables you to lock the volume in place so that the volume buttons will not adjust the volume.
