[Q] Can you Take a Srceen shot of your calendar - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Fascinate people
I have an Epic 4G & a lot of us Epic people used your calendar app on Froyo.
Now that i'm finely on GB I want your calendar back on my phone.
I just downloaded this ROM SuperClean3 V0.5
If your on it or know that it has the same calendar app that your using could you post a screen shot.

If you are looking for the TouchWiz calender that comes stock with the phone then yes it is there. If you are wanting the AOSP calender (like in CM7) then no it is not. Sorry I'm not running it anymore so I don't have a screenshot but this should explain it well enough.
It will be slightly different than the Froyo app but not much.

Thanks I am looking for the stock touchwiz calendar. On my phone (Epic) we don't have the big box on the bottom "tap to create" its just all the days on the hole screen.

[THINK TANK] MIUI Save/Restore Homescreen Layout

So, we all by now have heard of the awesomeness that is MIUI. Im running the Rodrigez port of the ROM, and its fantastic.
One thing about this ROM is that it stores all installed apps on the homescreen, much like the iPhone. There is no launcher. So for people like myself (and IM sure many others), its pretty time consuming arranging all 132 apps on the homescreens the way I want them!
I know in ADW launcher there is a setting to save your homescreen layout to your sd card, which can be conveniently restored when needed. I used this all the time with Cyan and Enomther, simply because it saved time after a fresh install.
Im asking the awesome coders of XDA if they think there is any way of either writing a command/app that will save your homescreen layout into a file on your sd card that can later be restored? I dont know if its something that can be written into the ROM, as Im not a coder. I just know it would save a lot of time in using this ROM. I just had a problem with my sd card and had to repartition it, meaning that I ll need to set all 132 apps on the homescreen again to the order I want them
I know that a nandroid can do this, but a separate application would be nice, as MIUI needs an ext 3 parition for apps2ext to work and everything I do a Nandroid +ext backup, I always have problems restoring it.
Any devs or coders out there know if this is possible?
Ideas?
I would like to see an auto rearrange option.

Question
Why would you want your homescreens cluttered with apps, I'm running Rod's MIUI, but I'm using Launcher Pro because I have to have a app drawer. And, I think most Android users aren't trying to make their Android phones like the Iphone. If you haven't already, check out the screenshots in the beginning of Themes & App's forum, most users are using alt. launchers to customize the UI. I didn't see one shot with anyone running stock MIUI

I have to agree. It seems like we are taking a step back in the evolution of the os. Like who seriously wants all apps mixed up in a clutter on your homescreen? But for the 5 people who do prefer this, I could see why they would want this save option included.

This is convenient for all users of the very nice standard launcher that MIUI comes with.
I'd happily use it if it existed.

I have to disagree, MIUI is a huge step forward. Regular xda members may not like the iPhone-ness, but I'm willing to bet that the majority of the public tend to gravitate towards it. How do you think they still sell iPhones, anyways? lol.
I look at MIUI as a breath of fresh air. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that we needed a break from Sense and stock for a while.
That being said, I have defected back to CM for now. Main reason: Lockscreen music controls. I love the MIUI lockscreen, but having to unlock, open music app, and press skip just wasn't safe for me, as the only time I use my phone for music is while driving. Personal preference, but pretty important to me.

Never knew people liked that iPhone-esque home screen. Always thought installing another launcher on top of it was mandatory for the Android crowd. Step back indeed, unless you think gravitating towards the iPhone's OS' simplicity is step forward according to the poster right above me. Assuming he's not some T-Mobile exec that just looks at the "big picture's aka sales...
@Op: sorry for veering OT. I just thought what he posted was absolutely absurd! Unless it was complete sarcasm, then I apologize.
You can use Titanium Backup to backup the data portion of the MIUI launcher, restoring that will restore the layout.
And what's with this BS fake "you're the 1 millionth user" banner ads, what is this, 1998!?

It's a step forward in the fact that developers are thinking outside the box and working on the framework/user-interface, instead of focusing all efforts on the "behind-the-scenes" aspect of Android. Don't get me wrong, I love CyanogenMod and TheOfficial, and appreciate all the work the countless devs have done, but the stock UI hasn't changed at all, really, since 1.5...
It's not the simplicity of iOS, per say; rather, the ease of use is what I think draws the crowds. I'm an iPhone to Android convert, and have rid myself of most of my Apple products (bad experience with my MacBook left a horrible taste in my mouth), so I guess you could consider me an Android fanboy.
And why would a T-Mobile exec be promoting a competitor's biggest seller (aka AT&T and the iPhone). Kinda off-base there, if you ask me.
I would also like to apologize for going so far off topic. Had to speak my mind .
I won't be posting (off topic) in this thread again.

I feel you on the alleged ease of use of the iphone but personally I found the Miui homescreen harder to use. If I wanted to open an app, I had to mentally remember which homescreen I placed it on. There was also no other way to sort the homescreen. And when I wanted to move an app to a specific place, other apps shifted places but in sometimes undesirable places. I got frustrated. Thats why I think that the app drawer is a forward evolution of the os. Thats like me places a million shortcuts on my desktop computer instead of going to the start menu or searching for the program in the start menu searchbar. Just my 2cents. Iphone os just not that impressive to me.
I actually have used all the launchers out there and launcherpro is a good launcher to have over certain roms. I myself been on LP plus since CM6 and loved the ability of customizing almost every faucet of the ROM. But since MIUI, I have tried to use LP plus and I have to admit I cannot use any of the launchers to run on top of MIUI. IMO kinda takes away from MIUI.
And because of my opinion, all the apps of course, are on the screens. What did I do? I just used created two folders. One "app" and one "tools" folder and separated them that way. So far so good, unless someone can point me in the direction of a launcher that can organize it in a 'better' way, please let me know. Thanks!

Have you tried WidgetLocker Lockscreen? =P maybe you'll go back to MIUI again if you try it.
I have organized lots of apps in folders so I don't miss the app drawer at all :]
Music Player Pro (app) has lock screen controls.
Best music player out there imo.

Interesting thoughts guys.
I actually take the MIUI homescreen as " a breath of fresh air" as well. I know its a bit iPhoneish, but it works VERY quickly and it looks nice. Also, less widgets = less lag, and for now Im enjoying the change.
I used ADW launcher (love it) and Launcher Pro (also great) on Cyanogen and Enomther for a while, but with MIUI, the launcher they have developed just works so well, which is why I think an app to import and retain homescreen settings would make the ROM even more awesome.

I agree with you on that, MIUI is a very fast and dependable rom, I just don't like my homescreen cluttered, I run a lot of widgets and I don't lag. Nexus can handle it. I have over 200 apps installed and with the standard launcher I couldn't find anything. I have to admit the icons give the phone a uniformed look, but I don't want them on my home screen. I have the App Inventor from Google, and I was trying to come up with a idea for a app, so Ima see what I can do for you. I'm not a dev or anything I'm still going through the tutorials, but we'll see.

[Q] How is Touchwiz for former HTC Sense users?

Hey guys,
how does Samsung Touchwiz feel in the daily usage, assuming you come from HTC Sense?
I currently own a HTC Hero, and I need a new phone. How is the Facebook integration, calendar and email client?
Cheers, Martin
Hi,
I'm used using sense on android and winmo on a HTC.
when I compare it to Touchwiz, the samsung version feels odd, unlogical.
Personally I don't care a lot about Touchwiz.
Back to your questions:
Email client: (Gmail) it's almost the same
Facebook: I don't know i don't use it.
Twitter is the same too.
Calendar: I didn't like the one on Sense and I don't like the one on Touchwiz. I'm using Smooth calendar (free app)

First you are just happy with your new girlfriend and don't even think bad of her if she does things you think is strange...
You accept a lot, and think you just need to adjust and that everything will work out in the end...
Don't misunderstand me now.... you still Love the looks on your girl, her beauty is stunning.... but do come to the conclusion that looks often isn't everything you need...
So.. when you recognize this sad fact you will quite fast think of solutions to reproduce your old girlfriends habits and ways of doing things you loved about her....
You would probably install a new launcher, Go SMS, Go Dialer, Go Contacts and other beautiful widgets....
And soon you realize.... Beauty and mind does exist in one package after all...
And you are in love yet again...

I've never cared for the Facebook for HTC add-on and Peep (Twitter add-on), so always used the official Facebook/Twitter app sync.. Touchwiz does have its SNS aggregation app which is similar to HTC for Facebook/Peep, but not using it either
Linking contacts is the same in the Touchwiz contacts app as it is in the HTC contacts app. Although Sense does auto-link contacts far more efficiently (always autolinks whatsapp contacts whereas I've had to do that manually in Touchwiz) and there are no notifications for suggested contact merges in Touchwiz.
The calendar is the same, doesn't look as nice but offers essentially the same functions
The email client is a bit better as it has multiple Exchange ActiveSync support with HTML rendering.. also allows split-view in landscape mode which is a nice touch.. although it is a bit of a battery hog.. have 3 accounts set up on push and it uses over 15% of my battery, used to use Seven on my HTC and would use under 5%.
Overall, I prefer Sense over Touchwiz
I used to own the HTC Desire. I like Touchwiz a lot. Personally, I think that sense looks a little tired now. Even their tablet looks like a bloated version of their existing phones. But then touchwiz is all new to me, and I love the SGS2, so maybe my judgment is clouded.

I miss sense, it has so many little touches touchwiz (and 3rd party launchers/widgets) miss.
Coming from Sense first from TP2 and then from Desire there was quite big change.
But I didn't actually like Sense that much and used to use Go Launcher.
I am still using Touchwiz but there are some issues which are really annoying.
First of all the home screen is the most left one. That is so stupid. Probably the biggest issues with touchwiz.
Calendar app I think is better than with Sense. I actually uninstalled smooth calendar after finding this.
Also strange thing is that with Sense I could look my facebook pictures from the gallery application. Currently I cannot do it or then I just dont know how to do it. But that is a big downside.
After all touchwiz is not so bad as people are complaining. I dont miss the extra eye candy from Sense 3.0 and there are some good things with this UI. I would give it 7+

I've come from an HTC Desire and for me, TouchWiz is a clear improvement over Sense in some ways, and needs a lot of work in others. It certainly feels faster, but that might just be down to the horsepower that the GSII has available. Also, you're not forced to have 7 home screens. I have 2 home screens with my essentials on them and nothing else. I guess I'm a minimalist
Facebook integration is decent, although the Contacts app isn't as good as Sense at auto-linking Facebook contacts to your existing contacts. Calendar is nice, although for some reason it can only pull in your events calendar from Facebook. As I recall, Sense was capable of pulling in events and birthdays. I don't use the built-in email app (I use the Gmail app instead).
Other niceties:
- Built-in MSN client
- Decent camera (far better than the Desire anyway)
Other niggles:
- The lock screen takes some getting used to. I ended up installing an alternative because I didn't like it.
- The apps list is more akin to how apps are ordered on the iPhone than on other Android devices: you have to manually order them rather than them being ordered alphabetically.
- The media scanner is unable to process the metadata in AAC/M4A files. They play just fine, but show up as "Unknown Artist" etc. in the music player.
All in all though, it's a brilliant phone. I was blown away by how fast it is coming from a Desire, so moving to it from a Hero will blow your socks off.
Don't care for it personally - feels clunky and outdated.
I went SPB first and now LauncherPro - much happier.
If I had been stuck with TouchWiz though it'd still have been an excellent phone...
I never cared for Sense on my HTC device when I used it, I flashed a stock CM7 based rom.
So the look was minimalistic.
The TouchWiz needs some work doing to it, for example (and I may have missed something here), the programs in "Applications" are added in the order installed. I prefer the A - Z scrolling icons (not the list you can get it TouchWiz).
LauncherPro for me any day, or GoLauncher maybe as a 2nd choice.
TouchWiz doesn't do it for me I'm afraid... The dialer is great, but I don't like the dock/app drawer at all.
It took me ages to get used to Launcher Pro after using sense, but now I cant use anything other than Launcher pro (with it set up the way I like).

You know a default.prop edit changes that to have the default screen wherever you want.
how do u do that pulser?
I went HTC Sense (On a Hero) to an iPhone 4 to SGS II.
Played on a DHD a lot whilst having an iPhone 4. I find Touchwiz 4.0 quite nice, very smooth and I prefer the browser to sense I have got used to the smoothness of the iPhone. Never liked the way the Sense browser scrolls and to be honest it's hardly changed since the Hero days, etc.
used a couple of htc devices with sense, the last one was a rooted desire with a combination of sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 and I must say that in terms of hardware samsung is ahead of any htc right now but touchwiz has nothing to do with the usability of htc sense
I don't like the calendar on SG2 (app and widget) and I need that, I don't like that SG2 social hub is not better integrated with contacts ... etc. I just love my new SG2 but I have to say it, HTC did a great job with sense
And one important thing - SG2 "smart" dialer is not so smart and some contacts I will only find if I make a search contacts, they will not appear if I type first few letters from the name .... and I hate that ... it was so easy on HTC to call someone when driving ....
I can't wait for a decent port of htc sense 3.0 on my SG2
until I will find it I have to remove touchwiz and buy spb shell 3d from the market
I came from DHD and Touch Pro 2, Tytn II with Sense.
Don't like the Touch Wiz/Samsung
-Keyboard (spezial characters on second page)
-E-Mail App (no multi Mail markers to delete at once)
-Music Player
-Facebook Integration
-Dialer
-Wheater
-no control over WLAN, GPS, 3G, Data Connection, Bluetooth, Thetering, Fly Mode and many more options etc. in one place
etc.
SGS II has a lot of power an could handle Sense easy, once it has been portet.
Sorry but TW is IMHO crap...
Would love to see a Sense Rom on SGS II
am i the only one that actually likes touchwiz??! I find it does everything really smoothly. Sense was overwhelming. It changed too many things! Once landscape is introduced for touchwiz il probably be using it by default.
Indeed, I love the TouchWiz interface and gladly choose it over sense. Since you can install a calendar widget on Samsung, but you can't get away from sense on a HTC. TouchWiz is really fast and don't change the Android experience in a bad way.

I wasn't too fond of sense and ended up not using it in favor of adw although I occasionally went with GO and LP. Had them all on the phone. As already noted the default home screen can be moved in touchwiz, search for the thread and there are detailed instructions. Rooted users can also sort the app drawer alphabetically with an app called sort apps. It will come up in a market search for touch wiz. I am using touchwiz now but essentially with all the wiz removed. I dislike hubs as they are more bloat than benefit to me and have never used them. I love the little slider that lets you cross the home screens. Easier and quicker than pinching and done one handed instead of having to two hand to pinch or swipe all the way back and forth. I have been giving touchwiz a go for a while now. I also have LP and GO installed and I'm finding I like touchwiz once its been de wizzed. If it were customizable in being able to choose rows and columns and that sort of thing I would be happy with it.
TouchWiz has the option of getting everything in alphabetical order and in up/down list. You can move apps freely around the different pages in original mode if you wish too. I love it and the quick switches in the notification bar just makes it great.

What do you hate the most about touchwiz?

Feel free to release your hate for touchwiz, i know we can use other apps to "fix" our phones but there's not an easy solution for everythin, gwhat are the things that you hate the most about it? In my opinion:
1.The lockscreen: Even tough i like the slider for received sms or missed calls i find it ridiculous, its slow and unpractical, you have to drag the wallpaper through 70% to unlock the phone
2.The launcher: its not that bad, but it is NOT smooth while flicking through the homescreens
3.The cheesy blue font, really samsung? a blue font in menus?
4.The messaging app: again the blue font, and the app it's just an iphone ripoff
5.The dialer/contacts: looks ugly and the image for the contacts its streched :/
6. Autobrightness also in the browser? huh? why?
7. Gallery on drugs? Its all sped up and is not overly responsive
8. No "," on the keyboard ( you have to switch to the special characters)
9. No option to deactivate just the keyboard vibration, in order to do it you must deactivate the vibration on the capacitive buttons too
10. Icons are really ugly
11. Hubs are pointless, the only non disposable one is the game hub
12. Samsung apps are horrendous, has someone download something useful from there?
13. No music widget? um why? i know there's a "shortcut" on the notification but a widget would have been nice
14. No text reflow on the browser
I should also mention that the camera app is better than stock android and i also like the way you change the wallpaper and add widgets, the browser is really smooth , is it true it has hardware
acceleration?
I know gingerbread is fugly but starting from ice cream sandwich just stick to making amazing hardware samsung
1. Normal Android and iOS, you have to drag an a thumb size **** for entire screen rather than anywhere of the screen, seems more hard to me.
2. Same on all androids... Try HTC next time.
3. Where did you get blue fonts? I don't see them
8. *cough* I have "." on keyboard. Do you by any chance use another launcher?
14. Actually text reflows on mine, and it is not TW launcher, it is android
Seriously dude, rest are just "objective" rather than facts.
I like TW and it is lighter than any other "default" launchers on rest of Android devices. Even sense on my friend's HTC's feels slow.
I hope Samsung does not give us butt-naked Android UI for ICS... TW4 is next best thing in Android other than core underground.
Please read why rest of Tech-editor hates Android's UI's, since I did not see much using SGS2... Beside it is not like Samsung locked you to use it. There are too many launchers out there...
I think TW is a good solid launcher. I dont use TW daily, but i dont agree with 90% of your points.
Same as the above poster really. i dont have blue fonts and also have a "." on the keyboard.
I'd strongly have to disagree with the not smooth on the home screens. Mine is seriously nippy.
Probably the only reason i dont use it is that i like to change my icons, so i will give you that one.
The stretching in the dial can be fixed by using a picture with the correct resoultion.
Do not feed the troll lads.
Why hate Touch Wiz? I don't get it !

I will leave some food by the bridge....
(Can you get a good phone signal underneath bridges?)
Touch wiz is too good to be criticised. Okay, some glitches but then nothing is perfect. It's so light and IMO it is awesome.

Doesn't work at all for me, at least not the free version.
The deleted apps leaving holes in the app tray bugs me too.

8. No "." on the keyboard ( you have to switch to the special characters)

I agree 100% with everything! But you forgot the most annoying thing of all. The king of all annoyances! The child of Annoying Orange and Fred! The 100% battery charge notification!!! Who in their right mind would not think of including an option to turn it off?!
In all fairness, most of these issues (including the ball on leg on a hot summer's day battery notification) can be solved through different apps. But why should I?
edit: forgot to add that there is no stock android music widget (or any at all) in the widget list
i just love touchwiz no complains

i heard that touchwiz will be updated to have 3*3 icons due to apple patent infringement.
and i heard that galaxy s will have ics without touchwiz like galaxy nexus.
i hope galaxy s2 get a non touchwiz ics update
1. Is it SO hard to move your finger two centimeters on any direction? Try other phones (HTC, Nexus).
2. Yes, it's quite good for most people. I don't really like it and i use Adw Launcher Ex. There's a lot free alternatives too.
3. What's wrong with these fonts? Are you aware of "Themes" section on this forum?
4. Yes, i totally agree on that one. It's an ifone rip off. On older ROMs at least we had an option to change theme, now it's gone. The only thing that really bugs me so much.
5. Pictures are fine for me and dialer app too. Would love to have an option to jump straight into favorites, instead of all contacts, though.
6. Yes and i love it! BTW, you can click "Menu" and disable it in no time.
7. That's slightly modded stock Android gallery and it's performance depends on amount of media files you have. Also, i guess you have some cheap class 2 SD card. And again, you can use QuickPic from Market, it's free and very fast.
8. I guess you meant "," not "." Yes, that's why i use Gingerbread Keyboard. Again, free on Market.
9. There's is an option to deactivate vibration for keyboard only. Settings - Language and keyboard - Samsung keyboard.
10. Personaly i love every single of them. Again, you can change any icon on this phone the way YOU like. It's Android
11-13 BS. Don't like them - don't use. Simple as that. And try some HTC phone and you will be surprised to find about 20 times more of bloatware.
14. Open browser - settings - auto-fit pages.
As i can see, you don't like every single bit on this phone. Why did you buy it? There's a good bunch of other phones.
And one tip: learn to use your phone, before blaming Samsung
I agree with some of your points, OP.
But the BIGGEST thing (at least in my experience) was how crappy Touchwiz performed compared to AOSP. Again, this is at least in my experience.
I hear good things about TW4 though.... I hope it's true!

Totally agree. App drawer is one of those things that makes me wonder if i shall use TW instead of my current Adw Launcher Ex.

No "," sorry, yes touchwiz is lighter than sense, but sense is so much better, swiping through the homescreen feels smoother, that ended with sense 3.0/3.5 it's even heavier and it feels kinda sluggish

Sorry, but I'm not seeing anything other than opinion. The vast majority of people actually really like TW on the S2, rating it higher than the other launchers. As for Sense, that's just another Launcher. You may as well start a thread for your favourite word processor, stating how it's better than the others, and then one explaining why you really like a certain art package or database app.
So you prefer Sense to TW. You should have a HTC phone then, not a Samsung one.

Flashed CM9 from the Stock rom and I am hating the new ICS calendar, any options?

so i liked looking at my Calendar by month and seeing everything i had set for the month even if the text was almost too small to read.
now in ICS it looks like colored blocks and i have to click on every day and even then i have to scroll to each hour.
is it possible to flash an older version of the google calendar app with out having to give up the rest of the ICS gapps?
ive attached two screen shots illustrating the New ICS cal and the old gingerbread cal and you can see why i like the old one better
Try pure calendar widget from the market

this is a great widget with very extensive control options but i was just looking for something with the same easy options as the stock cal but just looking like it used to.
also for some reason even with all the different widget options, it does not fit well on the Note screen and i cant get to a lot of the buttons to move forward by month.
nitpicky i know :\ but great advice

[REQ] Themed S Planner/S Memo

Is there anyone out there that could lend there skills at themeing the S Planner and S Memo apps? I like suing both apps but am not a fan of the beige on brown color scheme they chose to use for both these apps. I find it especially odd that the widget for S Planner is nice and bright with green trim while the app is a skeuomorphic mess.
Even better, if someone could point me to a guide for themeing apps (specifically system apps) so that I can learn, I would do the work myself and be more than happy to share with the community.

Not sure yet as I just got my S4.. But I was one of the only ones to ever invert the SecCalendar and Widgets..
I am not sure if it will work on the S4... Once I get going will redo the S4 version as well..
Nandroid and flash to see if it works.. let me know... took weeks to get it inverted and all that brown out of there.. Crazy app.. If you havent themed before, I would not suggest starting with that app.. crazy coding in that beast..

Thanks for the insight. I found a grey themed s-planner app over on the international S4 side, and I've been pulling the drawable files from it and replacing those in the apk I pulled from my phone. Thought I would start there and see where I needed to go next. It's encouraging to see someone much more knowledgeable than myself who also plans on taking on this project.
A couple of questions:
Did you mean to try flashing the inverted app you built for the S3 on the S4? If so I'll give it a go this week when I get some time.
Also, I've seen the calendar app go by two different names. One being SecCalendar (or just Calendar) and also S-Planner. I'm currently running the newest Hyperdrive ROM v7 and in that rom everything is labelled sPlanner. Is there a difference between these two apps?
Thanks again!
