Cheaper Stylus - Thinkpad Tablet Accessories

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad tablet that didn't come with a stylus. Anybody know where the cheapest place to get one is?

Cheapest I've found is Amazon.com, here.
It seems to be at least $40 everywhere else.

If you want to go cheap, any n-trig pen should work for the tpt. I had a stylus from an HP slate which worked just as well on my thinkpad. Problem would be fitting in it's holder though. Check eBay I got an official pen there new for around $40 (USA)

This isnt actually a cheaper option, but hear me out. The stylus from the HTC flyer works great with the Thinkpad Tablet, AND fits in the hole in the back of the device. The buttons on the pen apparently are useless, great for me, since I moved from a flyer to this - the pen was free because I already had the Flyer stylus.
Other than the HTC stlyus being grey as opposed to red/black - I cannot see any difference between the two. Only problem is - the HTC stylus is about 20 dollars more expensive than the lenovo one. /Facepalm

$32 Pen for Flyer!

I originally purchased the $80 pen from best buy. After finding out that $80 only gets you 4 apps that this is useful with I returned it and got my money back.
I Then went to the Fujitsu website and purchased this Pen for $25 +tax and shipping $32 total
Got it today from fedex. It is almost identical to the HTC PEN except it has 1 button (highlight) and a lanyard. Also comes with an additional tip. It works perfectly with the Flyer. For erasing, I just click the Pen button on the tab and use the eraser there instead of on the pen its self. So You are paying an Extra $48 + Tax for an erase button on the pen. NO Thank you.
Return those Overpriced Pens to Best Buy, Let HTC Know what you think of that waste of money with your Wallets. Buy the Fujitsu pen and don't look back till HTC comes to their Senses and lowers the price.
Oh, you can also attach the lanyard to your case so your pen can't run away if you are inclined. I've got mine on my TPU case at the power hole.
An extra pen would make a perfect Father's Day gift.
Thank you for the info.
It looks like the Fujitsu part number is FPCPN36AP.
I also found it on Amazon (USA) for $33.99 and PC Connection for $23.43 (both plus shipping)
Thanks for the info yo. I was just looking for an alternative pen yesterday and seen this one but didn't know if it worked. Thanks for the confirmation

Nice find, good price
Thanks for the find ordered !
I picked up a few of the Fujitsu stylus pens as backup. The lanyard attachment is nice but "other end" doesn't work very well as a capacitive stylus.
I was under the impression it was Best Buy's decision not to bundle the pen... Hence their logo on the flyer box. Complain to Best Buy...

Never used back of pen as stylus, couldn't stand the metal on tablet issue.
Best Buy, HTC, Don't matter, if the pen were bundled the flyer would be $579. Don't buy the pen for $80, the erase button and metal stylus isn't worth it over the Fujitsu for the price difference. Make HTC/Best Buy Lower the price on the pen with you wallet.

I agree. Gouging the consumer for the one distinctive feature of this tablet sucks. The lower price will come in time. Personally if it weren't for the pen integration, I wouldn't have purchased the Flyer. It was never an option for me to not buy the magic pen.
Having the Fujitsu n-trig option is great backup for me.
BTW - clarification of who's gouging the consumer does matter for press and company profiles. I have to handed it to someone, they understood that price was key to make this device more attractive to first-gen tablet consumers. And that the pen was a "Power-user" premium.
I received the Fujitsu pen today. It is the same exact size as the HTC pen and it works fine on the flyer. And it comes with an extra tip.
Woohoo
HTC Flyer / Tapatalk
Does the fujitsu pen also have the same pressure sensitivity as the htc flyer pen or any pressure sensitivity at all?
Yes it is pressure sensitive. It may be a little better with gauging pressure than the HTC pen...
Great find, I've ordered one myself.
Awesome find but just to also let you know I grabbed the HTC pen from eBay brand new for 30 dollars even shipping was free, was a little skeptical but hey figured I would try. It came in and it is the HTC official pen packaging and all. Just figured i would share.

got one from this seller. no retail packaging but the scribe looks new with no scratches.
I only ask because this scribe is black, and most I've seen that are OEM were definitley silver.
I'm just a bit concerned that this guy might be selling counterfit ones.

Allright great! Thanks a lot. I might buy this. It's in my price range. Any problems with using it thus far?
FYI, Best Buy just drop the price on the pen for the flyer, it's now $39.99.

Wacom Pens compatible with the Note

Just want to say that all the replacement Wacom pens i've purchased for my Asus EP121 tablet (12.1" Windows 7 Tablet with Capacative/Wacom input like the Note) work just fine on the note And much more comfortable to use than the S-Pen (haven't tried with the holder)
The three i've tested are the stock pen that comes with EP121, the Axiotron Studio, and the Axiotron Digitizer. Picked them up from here: http://www.nationwidesurplus.com/casearch.aspx?SearchTerm=wacom+pen with a 10% discount or so from a coupon code a few months back.
This is going to make it even harder not to carry my tablet with the note since I can tether the tablet to it..
I think any "Wacom Penenabled" pen will work with the device. I've noticed that so far that the eraser works, but the 2nd button does not.
do you know if the pressure sensitivity is more accurate with the wacom pens? The s-pen (at least mine) has almost no travel, seems like off and on.

I didn't even think about this possibility. I have a similar HP laptop with the touch and pen. Forget which model exactly, I have a new laptop now. However, if the pen works with the note when I get it, I'm going to constantly carry it with me unless I'm wearing basketball shorts or sweatpants, as the pen that came with my laptop is a great size and has some weight to it. Thanks for reminding me!

i noticed last week that the wacom stylus for my Fujitsu T4220 works on the Note. i agree with OP, sounds like all wacom stylus' will work with the Note.
and yes, pressure sensitivity is noticed on the Note by this wacom stylus from my Fujitsu...so they probably all do that.
All my thinkpad tablet pens work.

I think you are right
I own an HP Tx2500 and i pulled the pen out of it last night for fun... it also has a clicking button, much like the note...i was able to take a screenshot and pull up the S memo, just like i was using the S Pen. pretty neat
Anybody considering buying a high quality wacom pen? I think if I end up using the S Pen enough that I could see myself buying this:
https://www.wacom.com/en/Store/Pages/Product.aspx?product=KP1302&crumb={A8DA06FA-349A-4FF4-A998-DF0429E676DF}
It's damn expensive, but if I could find a deal somewhere I would definitely drop some cash on one.

Yeah that pen wont work you have to use a pen that works with a Wacom pennable display. These are specific pens that are designed for integrated tablet options. Try looking at IBM pens fore the x61 and above machines. they are all over Ebay and cheap about 15 - 20 dollars a pen. I'm sitting here in a room full of Intuos 3 and 4 pens and none of them actually work on my note, they are not compatible.
I Just tried a friends Cintiq pen, and it did not work on my note. Also tried the pen that came with my first generation 5" wacom tablet it also did not work; did try a pen off a random HP pen tablet in the office and that does work. Not sure what the differences in pen technology are, but obviously there are some.
-Josh
There is a difference in many generations of Wacom pen tech. In my tests all of the Penabled styluses have worked very well. so it seems a good rule of thumb here when considering a higher quality stylus is if its a stylus designed for a Wacom branded product. Or a stylus for a 3rd party product that happens to use Wacom Technology. no first party products have worked in my tests and all 3rd party ones have. Currently I am using the stylus from the Samsung 7 series tablet. Eraser works, button works , a noticeable increase in pressure accuracy and above all else its better shielded to prevent the auto-pressing bug many are facing with the S-pen. I'd be shocked if Samsung doesn't try to market a "S-pen pro" device in the near future.
I purchased my 7 series tablet pen from amazon for about 30 bucks.

REALLY the slate's pen works?? I carry my slate pen everywere in my pocket ready to use on my slate, but i went to a best buy and decided to try my stylus on the note that i saw on display it didn't work =\ , I really hope it really does work because this will be great. But i do have the developers version of the slate, doubt that should make a difference. My note comes in a few days..cross my fingers!
Also for others interested the great thing about the Samsung Slate Stylus is that it has a penclip so i easily clip it to the inside of my pocket and not worry about it falling out.
Wacom "Penabled" pens work, which you'll usually find with tablet PCs. Confirmed with the pen from my Thinkpad X60.
Wacom's regular line of pens, such as from the Bamboo, or the Intuos, do not work.
Note that even the eraser on my Thinkpad pen worked in the Memo app! Very cool.
As a cheaper alternative to the Samsung digitizer pen (for the slate). There is a company called Nationwide Surplus that sells white Axiotron digitizer pens for about $18 with free shipping. It's basically the same thing as the Samsung.
White stylus
They also sell a 3 pack of these for $50.
They sell an Axiotron Studio pen as well which includes a grip. I used to have one of these and they are very nice and comfortable, but might be overkill for the note.
I just ordered a 3-pack of the white stylus to have some stock. They come with extra nib units too. Great deal.
I purchased this one a few days ago on their site, the price was $14.

I would've loved to have gone for one of those Axiotron pens, but I'm particular about my gadgets being black.
I went and opted for this Toshiba pen. At $35 shipped, it was the cheapest black pen I could find. Those Samsung pens started at $40ish shipped, and I like how it looked thinner and more pencil-like than the Samsung.

Cool. Also, if you are in need of another at some point you can search around for a Fujitsu branded one. These pens are all basically the same. And there are deals to be had. No real reason to pay more than $20 for one of these.

sleeve/pouch case

I'm looking for a good sleeve/pouch style case for my tab 7.7.
I want it to protect it from scratches and maybe for "short" drops.
I have this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/SAMSUNG-GAL...ED8E/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1330242173&sr=8-6 , it serves the purpose but is too ugly for my taste

Did you get it? Is it any good?

Yes, I received it on Saturday and it was a quick delivery as well. It's originally designed for the BlackBerry playbook and slightly smaller in dimensions in comparison to the 7.7
Some photos soon perhaps...
Another option is PDAIR, they also have pouch type case :

IIRC, their case got some positive reviews before
Here are some photos attached to this post
I ordered a Noreve case for my 7.7, to hold me off while I wait, I picked up a Blackberry Playbook Zip sleeve. It was on clearance at a local store, got it for $10 vs the $40 it originally sold for!
It fits as if it was custom made for the 7.7, it's an absolutely perfect fit and nice quality! Getting this for $10 almost makes me feel like I wasted $100 over at Noreve, lol.
http://crackberry.com/blackberry-playbook-zip-sleeve
Ive already got this one and it works pretty good. I originally got it for a HTC EVO View, but it works good for my 7.7. I also just ordered this, only $7.45 shipped and the embroidered "Galaxy Tab" logo looks great. It also has a pull tab that lifts the tablet out of the sleeve. I know it will fit with no case on, but Im hoping it will fit with a snap on case I ordered from Brando. Probably wont, but Ill still use it.
PSA: The black Tab sleeve (ET-GTABBSSGSTA) doesn't fit the 7.7. Not wide enough.

I can confirm this. I wrote a short Amazon review so other 7.7 owners will know.
I went for the BlackBerry PlayBook case too - Only £7.50 delivered from Amazon UK.
It is a perfect fit and is made of memory foam. Quality.
Ahhg - it's only £4.41 now! Still - it was good value at £7.50.
Black, Grey, Orange or Sky Blue
Not sure if it's the exact one, there's no label on it and I've thrown away the packaging. But, using a Belkin Kindle case works well for me.

Nook Color/Tablet sleeves work as well. So you can add those to the list. Accessories are pretty scarce at the moment so I'm reusing my Nook sleeve until my case arrives in the mail.

Is the Belkin case you're talking about actually for the Kindle Keyboard (3rd generation)? I have a sleeve for my kindle 3 and while I can slide the tab in, the top sticks out a bit. I should see if I can find my old kindle 2 case.

Thanks for this post. EVO view case fits perfectly
Not to resurrect a somewhat dead n' buried thread, but I'm on the hunt for a sleeve to protect my 7.7 while keeping the OEM bookstyle case always equipped on it.
I'm utterly disappointed at the lack of sleeves specifically designed for this tablet considering its made by Samsung, a top tier mobile computing company. Kind of reminds me why my next PC build will be Intel and not AMD, less third party vendor support - simply better chipsets and mobos. Maybe we should all get Ipads just to get some proper accessory support?
I'm kidding, but suggestions are appreciated. I even checked out amazon uk and can't find anything decent. I'm not too crazy about using a playbook branded sleeve either.

2 Button Dell Stylus Works Great - Under $20

I just got an evo view and needed a pen. There is no way I was going to spend more than $20 on a pen since the tablet only cost me $116.
I noticed in some thinkpad tablet forums that the Dell Latitude pen works on their unit... since their pen works on the flyer/view, I figured it would also work on ours.
So I bought this (there were a bunch on ebay): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190662750697&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
It has 2 buttons and works perfectly (as do both buttons). I didn't notice anyone mentioning this, everyone always just talks about the Fujitsu pen (which was more expensive and only had 1 button).
Anyways... hopes this helps someone.

The one HTC put out, I think it was the Scribe, works with the TPT.
Take a look at the pen for the Fujitsu Q552, as it is the same N-Trig gen as our Thinkpad The older Q550 pen will also work, but I am told that is half a gen behind what we have, but the tip also gets dirty/needs replacement more frequently. The HP Slate 2 pne will also work. However, the only con maybe they may not fit in the pen silo, so you would have to carry it separately.

I was wondering if there is a nrig pen out there that is not pressure sensitive (should be less loud)
Does this tablet use the same one as the X61T X200T X201T W700 X220? I see a ton of styli for those models for cheap on eBay, but I'm unsure which stylus to buy. What do you guys recommend?
No, different technology. But, the Fujitsu Q550/552. The Q572 and Q702 pen may work(newer gen version of what the TPT uses) as you can use the older pen, like the HTC Flyer or TPT pen on the, but not sure if it works the other way around or not.
Hi.
The TPT 1 uses NTRIG pens.
I had listed some of the devices that uses N-Trig here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/N-Trig_Pens
It will be interesting to find any of this pens and try it out, possible you can find any of those on ebay cheap... but it will be "trial and error" to see if those works.
If you have any good luck, please report it back on the forum.
