Is this a fishing scam? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I had two captivates for about a year, and never had anything like this. About a week after getting my S2, from best buy,I started getting this plus + symbol on my status bar. When I would check it, it was always saying I won some prize. Usually an apple product. What is this? Is this from me getting phone at best buy? Is this a new google thing? I get this every day now. I have noticed on my captivate I get a message on my status bar about a new Android market. This all seems scam-ish to me. Apparently my screenshot of my pull down is just black, but this is a shot of the site it leads me to.

When things like that appear in your status bar it means you have an app throwing that stuff up there.
There are apps on the market that can identify what apps are doing it and help you remove them.

I use AD free. Is there something else?

It's called airpush detector in the market.

Excuse me if it's a dumb question, but what is this widget?

Noticed a green widget called TRAFFIC in my widget list that I swear wasn't downloaded by me...OR...Maybe it's a stock app that I just didn't notice before. Either way, it doesn't seem.to work. Could someone please enlighten me. Any one got any idea what this is?

Whilst I can confirm that it is a stock app, I can't say what it's for. I tried it and it just ran Google maps, showing my current location. I can only guess that it does exactly that, but with traffic density showing on the map (which is an option in Google maps).
Thanks for confirming...and reassuring that it's a stock app. By it's functionality, I'm guessing that maybe it's one of the less thought out apps on gs2.

It's certainly gonna be one of the less used ones on my gs2!

Just got a triangle with an exclamation symbol in my notification bar about a failed download....when I clicked on it, it took me to this market page...

My phone is not rooted, I live in California, USA, English is my only language, and I have never downloaded an app that isn't "mainstream". Wtf? Am I just paranoid?

Here is a link to I9100 forums same app.
i've never seen this app before and couldn't find it on the market either.
so i'm assuming that this app is one of the bloatwares on your phone.
i'll suggest you use TI backup or Toolbox to delete it if your phone is rooted.
but since your phone is not yet rooted, then i'd suggest you just leave it alone.
The app is from a Russian service provider. The market had a brainfart.
Thanks all....I just better root this thing already so I have better control over these things.

Anyone know of a way to get the bar battery where it goes all the way from one side to the other? I used it on a ICS room and wish I had it on the CM10 i am using now.
It's hard to see in this picture, it's the thin blue line all the way at the bottom.
I couldn't see a thing in the picture.
But do you mean a thin line always being shown on the screen indicating battery status? If so, Battery Mix does that. It's free and has many options, it has a statusbar icon as default but it can be disabled.

[Q] ok, how on earth do you disable the data download warning in the play store?

that one? i only ever really use 3g and want to permanently disable this warning.
looked under the download app - no options, nothing in play store, data under settings etc.
any ideas?
anyone have any thoughts on how to do this?
here is something.. but why am I seeing your screenshot in this one year old thread?
http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/help-google-play-wifi-warning.17287/
I have a hazy recollection that this is actually delivered from Google play online rather than the app. They used to have it triggered for any app over 10mb, then when 3g became mainstream they upped it. My memory is pretty crap most of the time so this could all have been a dream.

How about you un-check "Download using WiFi only"? Aaand it looks like you've used a screenshot from a MIUI ROM, which isn't a crime, but strange
i found a thread re same issue and that had the screengrab (same thing, wrong rom).
unchecking it works for that 1 time and 1 time only which means every time you update a large app you have to manually do it. it's pointless and a waste of time
there was a fix for the miui rom but doesnt apply to ours (in the downloads app but there's no options for it on our phones)

YouTube app displays chromecast symbol in center of video

So this came about randomly. I do have a chromecast but the app isn't on my phone and it's not even turned on in my room yet dead in the center of every video I play is the icon and the screen is dimmed a bit too like with a Smokey overlay. What's going on here there must be a reason for this that I'm missing. I checked the app setting to no avail.

I am having the same issue. But I do not have a chromecast. I was unsure of what the icon was for.

I think its from the update where you can sync to your tv or something. Not for sure though.
