I love CM7, love it. But I HATE the camera app that comes with it. Its God awful, makes the video have a slight lag or skip every few seconds. Can't manually focus the stills camera. Just bad.
How can I install a new one? I've tried going into root and renaming the camera.apk to camera.apk.bak and then tried installing the factory apk with no luck.
What can I do? Beyond flashing stock?

The stock camera will not work on cm7, nor will any of the other Samsung apks that are based on touch wiz. You can check out cameras from the market, such as camera 360 or vignette. Also I don't know about our sgsii but on the captivate we could extract the camera apk from Miui and use it.
Well darn. Ok, ill see about getting the Miui camera apk and trying it.
I've considered apps from the market. I just don't need any silly effects. Lol
Edit: Just installed the Miui Camera. And it only goes up to 720P and the pictures look really grainy.

If anyone can help me with this question I would greatly appreciate it. I am trying to figure out if I can install an odexed apk (blurCamera) into a deodexed rom (eclipse 1.1). The reason for this is because the only camera app that records video without freezing and lag is the stock blurCamera.apk from 2.3.4, but only the odexed version. So if I can install this apk into eclipse what permissions do I have to set for the odex file? Or if u know of a camera app that actually works that would be great too. Any help would be great. I have a 9 month old son that I want to take video of, but stock 2.3.4 just doesn't function near as good as eclipse, even with supercharger and speedy installed.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Have you tried the apk from the stock, deodexed zip put up by peperm1nt? It should work but it won't display the thumbnail preview at the lower right if you're using the aosp gallery.

Nope I didn't even see that one. I'll give it a shot though and see how that works. Thanks!
I have found that HD recording seems to always be jumpy for me.
using the DVD or VGA settings allow for smoother recordings
Well what us the point in having a phone that claims it can record in 720p hd when u have to set it to record in standard def just to get a decent quality video? If I knew how to adjust the bitrate it records in I think I could fix it, but that us way above me. I read in another post that the bitrate is too high.... Just an idea if anyone with some expertise on this wants to help me I will be glad to do anything I can. I do know some coding stuff, but I'm still a noob
I get no issues on 720p recordings with the stock camera. I get some tearing on playback on the phone periodically but when played back on a pc, etc it looks great.
I have been using both neobuddy's and i9000 port versions, V6 and 2.5 beta, but my ffc is not working properly.
The symptoms are:
When i open up a camera app, rear camera is just fine, but the ffc is elongated, and if i take a picture, it only saves a blank grey image and the gallery cannot open the image as well.
I tried MIUI and it was all good, but I desire ICS, thanks for neobuddy and guys doing the wonderful work! but i just wish i could make a use of my ffc.
What could i do to make it work? is it the kernel problem?
Thanks in advance for your responses!!
I noticed the exact same things too. No wonder face unlock didn't work heh.
Might be kernel prob but maybe camera files since Video record doesn't work either.
I just came off the CM9 "Unofficial" ROM and am now trying out Team Perfection's "ICS Objection". So far, I have found both to be lovely.
One thing that I am missing from the CM9 ROM is the camera app. It's the stock ICS camera (as far as I can tell), whereas the "Objection" ROM has the standard Samsung camera.
I really like the ICS camera. The one in the Market (I purchased) is pretty much the same thing, with the difference being that it takes video in 3gp vs mp4, which is unacceptable for me.
Anyone know where I could get the camera apk that is in the CM9 ROM?
OR...can someone answer this: can I NOT use it anyway because of some reason I am too stupid to understand?
Thanks!
I'm assuming you made a backup when you were on cm9? Get app extractor from the market and see if you can pull it out of the backup. Just a thought. Not sure if it'll work or not, but worth a shot. Either that or restore a backup from tibu.

The one in cm9 won't record in 1080 and when you look thru video camera its not clear till after you record so ics camera + so is the better option! I would use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.MediaConverter
It will make mp3 and mp4 conversions for you out of any file you need
I'm one of those "flash everything and give it a try" kind of guy. I like to try everything out and see what works for me.
The one thing that I've been longing for in every ROM I try is the perfect camera app. I h8 the stock Sammy one. (can't map volume rockers as shutter). Any other camera app that I like doesn't do video. (I usually use Pro Capture). I do like Camera ICS+, but I don't like the fact that it records video in 3gp. I know, I know...I can use a converter app to change to mp4 after the fact, but what can I say? I'm a *****. I want it the way I want it.
The best cam app for me so far is the one running on the CM9 ROMs.
I extracted the apk and tried installing it. It runs fine, BUT......it doesn't save the video. It makes like it's recording, but after I stop recording, it's not saved anywhere.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a million!
PS: before anyone says "Just stick with one of the CM9 ROMs then!"....the reason is that I've found a particular ROM that I keep coming back to that I really dig the battery life on.
I'm a big fan of CM and other non-Samsung versions of Android. In the past, there has been no real reason to keep Samsung based ROMs. But with the S3, the stock camera app seems so much better than everything else, this is a problem.
Are there any ways of running the stock camera app in CM at the moment?
OR
Are there any alternative camera apps that can do the kind of continuous speed shooting (20 exposures etc.) that the Samsung stock app can do?

I would recommend using hx camera mod. I can say that it 's the best camera app so far especially when recording a video at 30Mbit - 1080p superfine. Try to look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691145 or http://hx-custom-roms.com/galaxy-s3-camera-mod

Thanks. I think this will only work on stock roms though as it is Samsung framework dependant. What I really want is something that will allow me to leave Samsung roms and move to for example Cyanogen mod, but keep the additional functionality found in the Samsung camera app.
