It happened two days ago,i did the rice thing and left it for 48 hrs,
today i did a test and i figured the following :
when i hold the power bottom, the battery icon appears (as empty) for a second and then disappears, at first it was a loop, right now it does this for one time.
when i connect the phone to a charger, the phone starts the (charging state) and the battery appears to be full,at this stage i hold the power buttom and the phone starts perfectly and smoothley,i dissconnect the phone from the charger and phone is working with no problem and the battery is full as i left it before the water damage situation.
Is it the battery or the phone itself...???
do i have to leave the phone back on the rice for a while..??
'The Rice Thing' Whats that, urban legend?
Rice will not work. It is an urban legend. The back of the phone has to come off, not the battery cover, the phone back (7 screws). Carefully pry around the back of the chrome bezel and remove. Blow it out with canned air (the phone not the back cover). Soak in denatured alcohol for 5 minutes. Blow it out again. Leave it alone in a warm place for 3 days. Put it back together and fire it up. If it does not work you may have shorted a component on the motherboard. If so, sell it on eBay and cut your losses.
Trying to use a phone that has not been dried out properly will ruin it eventually. Even just leaving a charged battery in it will ruin it as well even if it is not on.

I have X10 that i bought from a friend. Last month i dropped it when i was on the beach. I Quickly remove the battery and wash it with clean water because i heard that salt water will damage my phone.then i leave it to air for about 2 days, I didn't dissasemble it because i was affraid. Then after 2 days i power up my phone then it backs to normal (there is some kind of water trace on the screen but everything works normal).
After about a week, i charged it but it won't charge at all. I have to remove the battery, put it back after 5 mins and recharge to do it. After about a month I was playing mp3 using headset and went to sleep but what i found on the morning is my phone turned off. I thought the battery has run out of power, I charged it but nothing happens, even the LED won't show a red light. I brought it to SE but they won't repair it because my friend bought this phone at hongkong not in my country. I decided to fix it my self,i tear down the phone and found that the cover of the ICs are rusty, not all of the cover but only some. I try to plugged in the charger to the micro usb slot on that teared down condition and what i found is the power management IC (qualcomm PM7540) got hot.
Could anybody help me?what should I do?
Did you stick it in uncooked rice. I did it when I dropped mine in sanitized water. Left it in for a full 24 hours and my x10 works like a charm. Try it. Just be careful to get ALL the rice out before powering it back up.

thx for your reply,i have tried it last night.but only for a night because I'm sure that it is already dried ( I leave it to air for about a week ). Still it won't powered on,looks like short circuit problem. My friend told me that i should buy a new mainboard but it cost so damn high. I just want to know if there is another way to fix it.
Now, for this device already is late to help, but for the future, to other users such advice:
If your device visited salt water, then
1. Take off a back lid and battery
2. Carefully and repeatedly wash in the distilled water all parts
3. Dry up to the complete drying out at a temperature 40 ะก
So I've had the photon since August and it's always worked great. Well this morning it dropped into the toilet and I grabbed it almost instantly, took it apart and dried it off, then put it in a bowl of rice for about 5 or more hours now. When I would place the battery in at first the flash would keep going off and if I plugged it in a white LED light would come on. The screen started turning a white foggyish color and I placed it back in the rice and it went away. I plugged it back in and the LED light flashed green then after a few seconds went to the motrola screen and says starting RSD protocol support and wont go away.
I just have no idea what to do now.
Put it back in the rice, maybe more weird things will happen
On a normal phone, RSD mode turns on when you press and hold power button and volume up button at the same time, so i assume that something is wrong with your volume rocker, the volume button somehow got stuck or something, so when you try to power the thing on it goes to RSD mode (like you are holding the volume up button)
same thing happened to me!
well it didnt happen recently.. but about a year ago i dropped my BB into the toilet
and immediately took it out and dried it off
i then took off the back case and battery and put it fully submerged in a bowl of rice for like a day and a half just to make sure it was all dried out
and even shifted the rice to get "fresh" rice next to the phone
after that it worked perfectly
good luck
and dont take it out too early or the moisture could mess with the phones board
:good:
Alcohol bath also helps. Disassemble the phone clean all connectors and board parts with 99% rubbing alcohol and qtips.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I think drying it out in the sun (maybe through a window if you live in a humid/rainy climate) works better than rice.
My wife dropped her LG optimus S in her coffee last year. By the time we got the warranty replacement, the old phone was working again. I just unplugged it and pulled the battery and let it dry out. Took a few days. I tell you, it was the best smelling phone we ever had. I almost kept it and sent back the replacement!!!!
Good luck.
Ok, Here's what happened
I was cleaning the toilet at home and foolishly placed my phone on the tank, as I finished I picked up my phone, slipped out of my hand and fell in the toilet. I know I know, why did I take my phone to the toilet? I have no idea, its the first and last time have done that.
Anyway, I removed the battery, sim and sdcard straight away and tried to dry the phone off as much as possible, then placed the phone and battery separately in a concealed bag filled with dry rice (to absorb moisture), I can now boot my phone.
The problem is that the phone says I need to charge my battery, now when I try and connect the charger, it says, 'Charging has stopped due to overheating'.
My question to all you pros, is this a battery or phone issue? I don't really want to order a new battery to find it's a problem with my phone. If it helps, when I tried charging it, I noticed excessive heat down one side of the phone, as shown in the attached image.
Be gentle :crying:

You didn't mention how LONG you kept the phone components in bags of rice before trying to reassemble and power the phone.
If it was anything less than several days (if using rice as a desiccant, most recommendations I have seen are a week, minimum) and this is the only technique you attempted to use to dry the phone out, then it is very likely the phone was not completely dry when you powered it back up, and you may have permanently damaged key electronic components by allowing an electrical charge to flow through them before they were completely dry.
MistahBungle's call of the board responsible for the USB port is a good guess on which component, though.
Thanks for your replies guys.
I only kept it in the bag for 48 hrs. As you mentioned this probably wasn't long enough. I may just try and claim through our house insurance as it does cover smart phones, I don't have normal phone insurance because I've never needed it until now.
Thanks again for your help.
My wife dropped her phone in water the other day and it was in there for probably 15-20 seconds fully submerged. I put it in a container of rice overnight and the following morning the screen came on but was green overlayed. I used a vacuum on the bottom charging and headphone ports to help draw out any remaining moisture that I could. I then put it in a bag of silica packets for a couple of hours. Upon removal it booted up fine with normal screen colors but wouldn't charge because of the Moisture warning. The phone worked fine for about an hour then the screen started wigging out and went blank... After a few rigorous smacks on my palm the screen came back on but it was lighter and lacking some contrast. Back into the silica it went overnight. This morning we plugged it in and it comes up to the charging lighting bolt but it won't turn on.. It keeps reverting to the lighting bolt. I'm thinking I may have to take it apart and clean the contacts in it. If I heat up the adhesive to remove the back cover, will it re-adhere, or will I need to replace the adhesive? If so, what would I use? I have double sided tape for those plastic film window kits.
I opened the phone up last night to clean the contacts and cables... After reassembly it doesn't do a single thing. Plugged in, button combos, rain dances... Nothing, not a peep or subtle vibration. Should I try again, or is something toasted?

I have an ASUS Zenfone 4 (ZE554KL), but I don't think that matters.
Recently my phone came into contact with a bit of water, but I quickly dried it off. After a few minutes I got a notification that the charging port was hotter than normal; I imagined that maybe some water was still in it and causing problems, so I shut off my phone to put it on rice overnight, but as soon as it turned off it turned back on, and now the screen won't stay off anymore. Every time I press the power button to turn off the screen it immediately comes back on.
I booted into TWRP to re-flash my phone (yeah I was out of options), and while in TWRP, the screen was able to turn off completely, so there's definitely something I can do software-wise. Any ideas?
Also: while in TWRP with the screen off, my battery still drained quicker than normal, so maybe the CPU is always awake aswell? God damn.

Must be some water/moisture shorting a contact somewhere inside. It may have moved or evaporated as it got hotter when you used TWRP.
This can be very tricky, especially with new sealed phones. Hopefully you can get back off a can of air could blow it away & then let it dry out 100%. Else turn off & try putting phone in a sealed container with rice (or the moisture absorbing desiccant if you can buy it) for a week ... or two. (turning on & warming it up & putting it back in for every few days might help)

Hmm I don't think I can open this phone, but I'll google it. My phone already spend 5 days on rice, no difference yet; should I keep it more time?
